WWW.NEWSCIENTIST.COMHijacked cicadas play music like a cyborg loudspeakerThe chirp of the cicada, the sound of many summers, has received an electronic upgrade that turns the insects into cyborg loudspeakers playing anything from Pachelbel’s Canon to the theme from Top Gun. The researchers behind the work say it could be used to spread warning messages during an emergency. Naoto Nishida and his colleagues at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, were inspired by previous research in which cockroaches were remote-controlled by electrodes that triggered muscle movement. Nishida says that, while sitting in their woodland campus and hearing cicadas chirping nearby, the researchers decided to “borrow their chirp” using a similar approach. Advertisement Cicadas make noise with organs called timbals that have thick ribs joined by thin membranes that, when flexed, create a click. Doing this hundreds of times a second creates a continuous noise, with the pitch determined by the frequency of the flexes. To take control of the timbals, the researchers implanted electrodes into seven large brown cicadas (Graptopsaltria nigrofuscata) and used signals from a computer passed through an amplifier to induce noises at precisely controlled pitches. The team was eventually able to induce the cicadas to accurately play music, with the insects capable of reproducing tones over more than three octaves, from a musical note A at 27.5 hertz to a C at 261.6 hertz. The latest science news delivered to your inbox, every day. Sign up to newsletter Nishida, who is now at the University of Tokyo, says the animals were relatively unharmed by the experiments and some were released back into the wild. “Some of them wanted to run away,” he says. “Some of them were like ‘OK, use my abdomen’.” The team claims in its paper that cyborg insects could be used in emergency situations such as earthquakes, where they could be more energy-efficient, durable and agile than electronic robots. WWW.BUSINESSINSIDER.COM'Thunderbolts*' has 2 end-credits scenes — here's what they mean for future Marvel moviesDavid Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, and Wyatt Russell in "Thunderbolts*." Marvel Studios 2025-05-01T21:31:01Z Save Saved Read in app This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now. Have an account? Marvel's "Thunderbolts*" has two end-credits scenes. The first is an inconsequential scene featuring Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian at a grocery store. The second directly sets up "Fantastic Four: First Steps," the next Marvel movie. Warning: Major spoilers ahead for "Thunderbolts*."If you head to the theater to watch Marvel's "Thunderbolts*" this weekend, you'll want to stick around until the very end after all the credits have rolled."Thunderbolts*" brings together a dysfunctional group of characters previously introduced in other Marvel films and TV shows: Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). After getting into a death trap purposely set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), the ragtag crew minus Taskmaster, who is killed by Ghost, narrowly escapes. Then, they embark on a mission to rescue Bob (Lewis Pullman), a man who has gained unparalleled powers because of an experimental lab procedure called Project Sentry. As his own inner darkness, known as the Void, tries to take over, the Thunderbolts support Bob and remind him that he's not alone.Once the Thunderbolts have prevented Bob from succumbing to the Void, they try to chase down Val, who has another trick up her sleeve. In the final scene, Val leads the group into a press conference, where she claims that she's been working behind the scenes for years to develop a new kind of protection: the New Avengers, aka the Thunderbolts crew — hence why the movie's title contains an asterisk at the end.The attendees cheer and clap, while the Thunderbolts look on confused. Then Yelena whispers to Val, "We own you now."The film ends with a close-up of Yelena smiling, and the Avengers theme can be heard playing faintly. After the main credits are shown, the Thunderbolts* logo switches to "The New Avengers" in a bold yellow font, ushering in a new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The mid-credits scene features Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian enjoying his fame David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian in "Thunderbolts*." Marvel Studios Early in the movie, Alexei tells his adoptive daughter Yelena that he was truly happy when he was serving his country, saving people, and being adored like a god. The mid-credits scene is a playful extension of that, showing his delight at being part of the revamped Avengers. In the scene, Alexei approaches a mother who's in the cereal aisle of a grocery store."Wow, so many choices," Alexei says before highlighting the boxes of Wheaties featuring the New Avengers on the packaging."That's me on the box," he says. The woman, not interested in buying the cereal, takes the box from Alexei anyway, pushes her shopping cart, and leaves the product behind on a shelf before scurrying away. The scene ends, and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship plays as the film's full credits roll. The end-credits scene teases the arrival of the Fantastic Four Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Sebastian Stan in "Thunderbolts*." Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios The end-credits scene is set 14 months later, with the Thunderbolts at what appears to be their new headquarters. They primarily talk about how Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who took over the mantle of Captain America with Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) blessing, has filed for a copyright for the Avengers.Yelena says that she's confused because if Sam is assembling his own version of the Avengers, but the Thunderbolts are the new Avengers team, who are the real Avengers?Alexei then proposes a workaround — calling themselves the Avengerz — to avoid getting sued. He shows the team a new, colorful, but tacky-looking superhero suit that he says is as smooth as a baby seal.Yelena mentions a "huge space crisis," and Bob, who's chosen to keep his powers at bay to prevent another disaster, is reading a book in the corner of the room."I did the dishes, though," Bob says, reminding them that he's still of use. They're interrupted by a beeping alert indicating that an unidentified aircraft is entering orbit. Then the team looks at a massive screen and sees an extra-dimensional ship flying through space with the number 4 on it — aka the Fantastic Four. Michael Giacchino's "Fantastic Four: First Steps" main theme song also plays. The scene ends with text that reads: "The New Avengers and Bob will return."The scene also sets up 'Avengers: Doomsday' Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, and Joseph Quinn in "The Fantastic Four: First Steps." Marvel Studios The "Thunderbolts*" end-credits scene doesn't really break new ground, but it's slightly more satisfying than the scene featured at the conclusion of "Captain America: Brave New World."As the MCU has expanded with a mix of films and TV shows, some connective tissue has been missing. Now, as Marvel Studios has scaled back its sheer volume of projects, it's a lot easier to see the direction the vast universe is headed in.The end-credits scene directly sets up the next and final MCU movie releasing this year, the reboot of "Fantastic Four" starring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. It also indicates that Marvel's First Family is entering the main MCU timeline. The Thunderbolts* team's talk of who gets the title of the Avengers is a subtle way of alluding to who will be part of the next big team-up film: Avengers: Doomsday. The movie is set for release on May 1, 2026 and stars returning Marvel superstar Robert Downey Jr., ditching his Iron Man suit to play the iconic villain Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom.Marvel recently revealed the partial list of cast members joining Downey via a five-hour livestream stunt. Among them are "Thunderbolts*" stars Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, and Hannah John-Kamen.Another ensemble film, "Avengers: Secret Wars," will be released on May 7, 2027. Both "Avengers" movies, which are part of the Multiverse Saga, will be codirected by sibling duo Joe and Anthony Russo."Thunderbolts*" is now playing in theaters. WWW.VOX.COMA Trump judge’s ruling against Trump’s deportations, briefly explainedThis story appeared in The Logoff, a daily newsletter that helps you stay informed about the Trump administration without letting political news take over your life. Subscribe here.Welcome to The Logoff: A federal judge today barred President Donald Trump from using a wartime powers law to rapidly remove people from the country, kicking off a legal struggle that could derail a major part of his deportation agenda and set up another showdown between the administration and the courts. What’s the context? Trump invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act in March, saying he needed wartime deportation powers because a Venezuelan gang has invaded the US. The administration used the law to bypass due process hearings as it sent dozens of men to a Salvadoran prison. (The administration said the men were all gang members, though in many cases, those accusations have been challenged.)But today, Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. — whom Trump appointed in his first term — ruled the president was misusing the act. Gang activity, the judge said, did not meet the legal definition of an “invasion.”How is this ruling different from other immigration decisions? Other rulings have limited what the administration can do under the Alien Enemies Act declaration, but did not rule on the legality of invoking the act itself. This one does, and if upheld more broadly, it would undermine a major piece of the administration’s effort to quickly conduct mass deportations. What’s next? For now, the ruling only applies to his south Texas district, where many migrants are being held. But the administration is certain to challenge this ruling, sending it to higher courts whose rulings are binding more broadly. The first stop is the extremely Trump-friendly Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, but we’re likely to get an ultimate answer from the Supreme Court. And what’s after that? If the Supreme Court were to strike down Trump’s use of the act, it would set up a showdown between the two co-equal branches of government, as the administration has sidestepped previous immigration court orders and has argued the courts have limited authority over Trump’s foreign policy decisions. And with that, it’s time to log off…If you’re looking for a fulfilling watch, I highly recommend Love on the Spectrum, a Netflix show about people on the autism spectrum making early forays into romance. WWW.DAILYSTAR.CO.UKOverwatch 2's Stadium mode is so popular it's getting its own roadmapOverwatch 2's new Stadium mode has seemingly been a huge success, with Blizzard dropping some fun stats for the update—and a sneak peek at where it'll go nextTech23:00, 01 May 2025Freja is coming to Overwatch 2's Stadium mode soon(Image: Blizzard)Overwatch 2’s new Stadium mode was a big deal when it launched last month. At the time, Overwatch 2's Game Director Aaron Keller said "now is the time to jump on" if you're on the fence. As it turns out, many of you have, with Blizzard revealing some fun stats for the mode, and it makes for smug reading for Lucio mains like myself.According to Blizzard, the new mode saw 2.3 million matches of Stadium played in its launch week as players racked up 7.8 million hours, and as promised, the team is looking to keep expanding the mode. For context, that's more than double the launch player count of Overwatch Classic. Best of all? Despite being the least picked Hero, Lucio is also the one with the best win-rate.Overwatch 2's Stadium roadmap is stackedSeason 16's midseason update will add Freja to the Stadium mode, bringing the game's latest Hero into the mode.Article continues belowThen, in Season 17 players can expect Junkrat, Sigma, and Zenyatta to join, as well as Samoa: Control and Esperanca: Push maps.Season 18 will bring in Sojourn, Winston, and Brigitte, while Route 66 and London Maps will be added to the map pool, and then Season 19 will continue to add Heroes and a new China map.Blizzard is also planning a whole host of upgrades to Stadium, with Unranked Crossplay and shareable builds planned for Season 17 in June.Third-person is a huge shift for Overwatch(Image: Blizzard)"Since Stadium has a competitive system, it follows the rules of our core competitive mode, which doesn’t allow PC and Console players to group," Game Director Aaron Keller explained on the topic of crossplay."Since this is the only way to play the mode, we agree, and we’d like to do something about it. We’re currently investigating what it would take to make an unranked version of the mode. This would allow groups of friends to play together and would give us the ability to make other changes as well, possibly introducing a best-of-5 format to the mode."Article continues belowKeller also said the team is planning to release a new mode within Stadium called Payload Race, with two brand-new maps, and a new mechanic called Quests that will offer a random quest to players at the start of a match that dish out rewards.Keller also reiterated that the development team is still focused on the game's Core modes, saying "Stadium isn't competing for those resources: it’s giving us more opportunities to deliver Overwatch in a new, exciting way."For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.0 Comments 0 Shares 17 Views

METRO.CO.UKFortnite coming back to iOS if Apple accepts ‘peace proposal’ from Epic GamesFortnite coming back to iOS if Apple accepts ‘peace proposal’ from Epic Games Michael Beckwith Published May 1, 2025 12:42pm Updated May 1, 2025 12:42pm Epic Games beat Apple… sort of, maybe (Picture: REUTERS) Five years after Fortnite’s removal from the Apple store, a US court ruling has given Epic Games the opportunity to have the game reinstated. Back in 2020, Epic Games kicked off a legal brouhaha with Apple after Fortnite was delisted from Apple’s storefront, meaning iOS players could no longer download the game or receive updates. Despite the lawsuit ending in 2021, neither side was wholly victorious on the matter and Epic Games tried dragging things out with an appeal that was rejected by the US Supreme Court last year. However, following a recent ruling against Apple, Epic Games has seized on the opportunity to make peace with Apple and get Fortnite back on the Apple store. For context, in 2021, US district judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Apple could no longer prevent developers from informing customers about alternative means of purchasing gaming content, like subscriptions and microtransactions, outside of the Apple store. This is what got Fortnite booted from the store in the first place, since Epic Games tried advertising its microtransactions without needing to sell them through the Apple store – meaning Apple didn’t get their cut of the money. However, the same judge has stated that, upon reviewing internal documents, Apple has violated this injunction, going so far as to say Apple’s vice president of finance Alex Roman ‘outright lied under oath.’ This means the company could face criminal contempt charges, but it’s also an opportunity for Epic Games, who immediately smelt blood in the water and published a statement about how it’s willing to let bygones be bygones… if Fortnite is allowed back on the Apple store worldwide. Is Fortnite coming back to iPhone in the UK? As it stands, Fortnite isn’t coming back to iOS in the UK yet. This being a US ruling means it only applies to the US but, per a write up by The Game Business, Epic Games’ ‘peace proposal’ requires Apple to make the ruling apply worldwide. Epic Games says it is ready to put Fortnite back on the Apple store in the US as early as next week, which would likely be followed by a worldwide release if Apple accepts the deal. In exchange, Epic Games will abandon all its litigation against Apple, as well as its plans to force its own storefront on Apple devices. For anyone thinking ‘Didn’t Epic Games already do that?’, you’re right, but that was only across the European Union. A change in EU law in 2024 allowed an Epic Games Store to be formed on iPhones and iPads, but the company has yet to make it available in the UK or anywhere else. At the time of writing, Epic Games’ website says, ‘Thanks to fair legislation being passed, we will be able to bring the Epic Games Store to the UK and Japan soon, and will follow suit in any other country that passes legislation allowing third party marketplaces on iPhone/iPad devices.’ However, it sounds like Epic Games may not bother anymore, should Apple accept its proposal. Especially since not only would Fortnite be allowed back on the Apple store, but Epic would be free to bypass the store when selling microtransactions. More Trending Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, after years of harsh criticism towards Apple, has gone to great lengths to present himself as the bigger man in the two companies’ ongoing feud, describing Epic as one of Apple’s ‘best partners for more than a decade.’ ‘I’ve been fighting Apple for a long time. But I’m an iPhone customer. This is an awesome device. I love having it. I don’t love the policies that Apple has made with respect to stores, but there’s a lot of respect of Epic towards Apple’s quality of product and focus,’ says Sweeney. ‘I hold out hope that there’s a way for Apple to get back on the right side of history here. I think this is a great time for Apple to consider doing that.’ Apple could very well opt to appeal the ruling, though, so it’s unlikely to accept Epic Games’ olive branch so readily. GIZMODO.COMJeremy Renner Says Disney Offered Him Half His Hawkeye Wage for Season 2By Germain Lussier Published May 1, 2025 | Comments (0) | Jeremy Renner won't be shooting at Hawkeye season two anytime soon. Image: Marvel Studios If any recent Disney+ Marvel show seemed poised to get a second season, it was Hawkeye. It starred one of the original Avengers, played by Jeremy Renner; set up a new, younger version of the hero in Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop; and told a story featuring characters that have since come back in other places like Kingpin, Yelena, Echo, and others. Well, according to Renner he was asked to do a second season, but was only offered half of what he made for the first season, so he turned it down. “They asked me to do a season two, and they offered me half the money,” Renner said on the High Performance podcast. “I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.'” “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season,'” he continued, referring to his 2023 accident where he was run over by a Sno-Cat, suffering near life-ending injuries. Renner quickly added that it wasn’t Marvel who did this, but accountants at Disney. “This is not Marvel, mind you,” Renner said. “This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer. So we didn’t see eye to eye on it.” This, if we’re being honest, doesn’t add up. Disney is Marvel and accountants who work for Disney are representing Marvel. But the implication, it seems, is Renner doesn’t want to blame Marvel’s creative people, just the people who sign their checks. io9 reached out to Disney for comment and an insider there disputed Renner’s claims, but failed to get into specifics. So this is certainly just his side of the story. Renner’s hesitance to place the blame specifically on anyone is probably also because he says he would like to play Hawkeye in the future. “Sadly, I still love the character. I’d still love to do it, but I had to defend myself,” he said. “I didn’t ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made the first season. So it’s a little disheartening that that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.” Here’s the clip: @high_performance Jeremy Renner reveals why Hawkeye Season 2 never happened… 👀🏹 Jeremy’s episode with us is available now, exclusively on the High Performance App! 🙌 Jeremy Renner’s ‘My Next Breath’ is available in all formats now, published by Simon & Schuster UK #avengers #jeremyrenner #hawkeye #hawkeyeseason2 #disneyplus ♬ original sound – High Performance – High Performance So there you have it. As it stands now, it certainly seems like Hawkeye season two is not currently in the works. Which is a shame. We would’ve loved to see Renner continue to mentor Kate Bishop as she rises the ranks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But maybe things will come together in the future. Want more io9 news? Ceramica, HaufenMore SpecsLess Specs Save this picture! Text description provided by the architects. The extant building, nested in the city centre of Athens, is one of the finest examples of modernist housing in Greece and potentially an early precursor to brutalism imposed by topological factors in Greece. The initial design by A. Siagas stipulated two independent maisonettes, adjacent not only vertically, but also horizontally. This solution of Athenian housing, alongside many innovations in the design, constitutes the particularity and genius of the building. In the forthcoming years, the initial design was abandoned and more conservative approaches were employed, changing not only the interior, but also the facade of the building.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The restoration of the building was completed at the end of 2023. We decided to keep a multitude of details of the surviving building, while converting the interior into flexible spaces that can be customised for different uses, in compliance with contemporary housing needs and in direct contrast to the strict floor plans of the original design. To that end, the wooden staircase - originally destined as private to one apartment - was renovated to serve as a common space staircase. The interior passageway leading to the two houses forms an alley, in a way expanding the city into the building. This was conserved, but the initial wall was substituted with glass tiles, forming an office in synergy with the city. The terrazzo floor was preserved, emphasised by its adjacency to the epoxy floor that now frames it. The new penthouse was created in a way that functions as an index, or an x-ray, of the construction to where all the columns extend, resulting in a complex design that signifies the irregularities and liberties of the strict principles that A. Siagas followed in his work. Save this picture! The old concrete structure has been maintained and reinforced where it was necessary, while a new slab was constructed for the top floor. Built in the 1930s, it was not connected to modern sewage, water supply, and electricity networks, which had to be restored. During the renovation, all the decisions concerning the upgrades were made with the aim of protecting and respecting the heritage of the building. The renovation restored the building to its original condition as much as possible, while simultaneously bringing to the surface a new updated form, complying with contemporary living needs and the city's regulations. Special attention was given to the energy upgrade of the building. This is evident by the wooden-framed windows that were installed, which resemble the original ones but comply with current energy efficiency regulations. Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! This restoration posed challenges in both cultural and social terms, in identifying the fine balance between a functional and an archaeological approach with respect to both the initial intentions of the architect and the current socio-political conditions in the centre of the metropolis of Athens. Thus, it was imperative to create a meaningful design out of subtleties and avoiding potential flamboyant tendencies seen in recent restorations. WWW.DISCOVERMAGAZINE.COMThe Dazzling 2025 Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower Will Peak May 6 — Here's What to KnowEvery spring, Earth passes through a cosmic trail left behind by one of the most famous visitors from the outer solar system: Halley's Comet. The result is the Eta Aquarids meteor shower, a dazzling display of shooting stars that’s set to peak this year during the night of May 5, 2025 into the early hours of May 6, 2025.If you’re hoping to catch one of the best celestial shows of the season, here’s everything you need to know about the Eta Aquarids — including what causes them, where they’ll be visible, and how you can get the best view. What Is the Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower? The Eta Aquarids meteor shower occurs when Earth crosses paths with the stream of debris shed by Halley’s Comet during its cyclical journey around the Sun.“Comet Halley takes 76 years to orbit once around the Sun,” says Nick Moskovitz, a planetary astronomer at Lowell Observatory. “When it approaches its closest point to the Sun, it heats up and leaves behind small bits of debris. That debris is like a trail of breadcrumbs that spreads throughout the orbit of Halley around the Sun.”Every year in early May, Earth happens to pass through that trail. “When that debris hits the Earth’s atmosphere at high speed, it vaporizes and produces meteors or shooting stars,” says Moskovitz. “The collection of meteors associated with comet Halley’s debris trail is known as the annual Eta Aquarid meteor shower.”When and Where to See the Eta Aquarids Meteor ShowerIn 2025, the Eta Aquarids meteor shower will peak overnight on May 5 and into the morning of May 6. And while the shower is active from roughly late April to mid-May, your best bet for catching the most meteors is to head outside after midnight within a few nights of the peak.In terms of visibility, the Eta Aquarids favor observers in the Southern Hemisphere, where more than 30 meteors per hour might be visible under dark skies. However, skywatchers in the Northern Hemisphere, including across the U.S. and southern Canada, can still expect a respectable 10 to 30 meteors per hour, depending on viewing conditions and a little bit of luck.“The Eta Aquarids are just one of two meteor showers linked to comet Halley. The other, the Orionids, appear every year in October, but the Eta Aquarids are generally the more active shower,” says Moskovitz. “The Eta Aquarids can be the third most active shower of the year.”How to See the Eta Aquarids Meteor ShowerNo matter the meteor shower, if you want to maximize your chances of seeing meteors, it’s all about location, patience, and preparation. Find an unobstructed dark-sky site that is far from city lights or other light pollution. Once you’re there, ditch any light sources and let your eyes adjust to the darkness for at least 20 to 30 minutes.“Find a dark spot to watch, away from all lights. Stay off your phone. Get comfortable and be patient,” says Moskovitz. “Best viewing will generally be after midnight on the evening of May 5/6.”The meteors will appear to radiate from the constellation Aquarius — hence the name Eta Aquarids — but you don’t need to stare directly at the meteor shower’s radiant to enjoy the show. In fact, looking about 45 degrees away from the radiant often provides a better chance to catch long, dramatic meteor trails. Why the Eta Aquarids MatterMeteor showers like the Eta Aquarids don’t just offer a stunning natural display — they also give scientists valuable insights into the life and behavior of comets like Halley. For example, projects such as LO-CAMS (Lowell Observatory’s Cameras for All-sky Meteor Surveillance) — which Moskovitz leads — utilize networks of cameras to help researchers reconstruct the 3D paths that meteors take through the sky. This helps them pin down what the meteoroid orbits were like before they hit Earth’s atmosphere. And that backward tracing can help reveal which comet likely shed the meteoroid material in the first place.“In the case of Eta Aquarid meteors,” says Moskovitz, “we see that their motion around the Sun closely resembles that of comet Halley, and this forms the foundation of linking the parent comet to the meteor shower.”But such observation efforts don’t just help researchers connect meteor showers to their parent comets. “For example, observations of meteors give us insight into the size of debris particles from the parent comet, which can be difficult to infer solely from telescopic observations of the comet,” says Moskovitz. “The sizes of these particles provide important clues into how comets lose material from their surface and what happens to that material in space.”So, whether you’re an amateur astronomer or just someone who could use a good night under the stars, the Eta Aquarids offer something for everyone, including a tangible connection with one of history’s most famous comets.Article SourcesOur writers at Discovermagazine.com use peer-reviewed studies and high-quality sources for our articles, and our editors review for scientific accuracy and editorial standards.
