It's impossible to deny at this point that Elon Musk has inflicted catastrophic damage to Tesla's brand and hurt its sales. But this, apparently, is an opinion employees aren't allowed to express. That was the experience of Matthew LaBrot, a now-former Tesla staff program manager who says he was immediately fired from his "dream job" after daring to call out Musk for hurting the company.He did so fully understanding the risks he was taking, but spoke out anyway — "because I believe in Tesla's mission more than I fear its CEO," LaBrot wrote in a LinkedIn post Friday, as spotted by Fortune."I want that mission to grow and thrive," LaBrot added. "And I believe we can't do that with Elon Musk as CEO."In late April, LaBrot, who joined the company in 2019, anonymously created a website called "Tesla Employees Against Elon" where he shared an open letter calling for new leadership and blaming Musk for the company's plummeting sales which, in the US, have fallen by 9 percent in the first quarter."This is not because our cars got worse," LaBrot wrote in the letter, "but because people no longer want to associate with Elon. That's it. That's the truth." LaBrot made an even bolder move days later. According to an , he spray-painted his Cybertruck with his protest website information and a big "Pro Tesla - Anti Elon" slogan and parked it outside a Tesla facility. LaBrot got a call from the human resources department about his termination the next day. HR claimed it was because he used company resources to build the website, but LaBrot denies this."I still firmly believe in the company," he told Business Insider, "and what we're working towards."It'd be hard to argue the veracity of LaBrot's criticisms, as Tesla's position has never looked more precarious. The automaker experienced its first ever annual decline in sales in 2024. And it looks set for a repeat of that this year, with first quarter sales in Europe falling by 37 percent, despite overall EV sales rising by 28 percent. Tens of thousands of its unsold cars are piling up in dealerships. And to cap it all off, the automaker's net income during this period tumbled by a staggering 71 percent.Musk, who's always been a central part of Tesla's image, is largely to blame. His extremist views and involvement in the Trump administration with his so-called Department of Government Efficiency — in which he's dramatically slashed federal spending, fired tens of thousands of workers, and tampered with Social Security — have made him a deeply reviled figure. The feelings of resentment he's inspired run so deep that a worldwide "Tesla Takedown" protest movement has sprung up against him and his automaker.Musk's brand damage isn't the only factor at play. The frequently recalled Cybertruck has been an expensive failure. Newly emerging Chinese competitors like BYD are overtaking its sales. And Tesla's vehicle lineup is stale and largely unchanged. It's tried to address this with a recent Model Y refresh, but in what seems a clear sign of desperation, Tesla is already offering steep discounts to potential buyers. All of this is happening under Musk's watch, even if it's not necessarily because of Musk's politics. May 13, 2025Ravie LakshmananCybercrime / Ransomware Moldovan law enforcement authorities have arrested a 45-year-old foreign man suspected of involvement in a series of ransomware attacks targeting Dutch companies in 2021. "He is wanted internationally for committing several cybercrimes (ransomware attacks, blackmail, and money laundering) against companies based in the Netherlands," officials said in a statement Monday. In conjunction with the arrest, police seized over €84,000 ($93,000) in cash, an electronic wallet, two laptops, a mobile phone, a tablet, six bank cards, two data storage devices, and six memory cards. The suspect's name was not disclosed. But he is said to have been detained after a search of his residence in Moldova. In at least one instance, the individual conducted a ransomware attack on the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), causing material damage worth approximately €4.5 million. The attack took place in February 2021, resulting in the leak of internal documents after the organization refused to pay up. It was attributed to a ransomware crew known as DoppelPaymer. "The attacker blocked network drives, rendered documents inaccessible, and stole some of our files," NWO disclosed at the time. "Following a demand for a ransom, which NWO cannot and will not accept on principle, the organization published some of the stolen files." DoppelPaymer, a ransomware family that first appeared in June 2019, is believed to be based on the BitPaymer ransomware, due to similarities in their source code, ransom notes, and payment portals. In March 2023, law enforcement authorities from Germany and Ukraine targeted suspected core members of a cybercrime group that has been behind large-scale attacks using DoppelPaymer ransomware. Germany also issued arrest warrants against three alleged DoppelPaymer operatives – lgor Olegovich Turashev, Igor Garshin (aka Igor Garschin), and Irina Zemlianikina – who are said to be the "masterminds of the criminal group." The former Labour prime minister said recently that present policies for tackling global warming were ‘inadequate’ and ‘distorting the debate’. Writing the foreword for an April 2025 report by his think tank, the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, the UK’s leader from 1997 to 2007 added that a strategy based on limiting consumption of fossil fuels in ‘the short term’ was ‘doomed to fail’. The full report, The Climate Paradox: Why We Need to Reset Action on Climate Change, said net-zero policies were ‘increasingly viewed as unaffordable, ineffective or politically toxic’.Advertisement It added: ‘We need a political strategy that wins and ends the net-zero culture war.’ Simon Sturgis, a former sustainability adviser to the Stirling Prize, and head of respected consultancy Targeting Zero, urged architects to ignore the former prime minister’s views. ‘To give up on net zero as Tony Blair is suggesting is to give up on your grandchildren and great grandchildren,’ he said. Constantly watering down carbon emission targets would lead to ‘abject failure’ against climate goals, Sturgis insisted. ‘The UK should see net zero as the next industrial revolution, which also had its naysayers at the beginning. We should be enthusiastically leading this to help cement the UK’s forward-looking position in the world.’Advertisement Environmental activist and academic Duncan Baker-Brown, who runs East Sussex-based BakerBrown Studio, said he was ‘puzzled’ by Blair’s comments. The former prime minister's institute had said in a report just two months earlier that ‘green growth must be part of the government’s economic strategy’ as ‘fully capitalising on the net-zero transition could provide a major boost to UK growth’. Trump and other climate deniers are emboldened – Reform call it “nutty net zero” – but it is just noise. When you go back to your computer to design a building, there are regulatory and economic factors that mean you will end up with a scheme plugged into renewables.’ HKS London principal and managing director Gary Clark said a failure to fund the infrastructure needed for renewables to grow to their potential had ‘led to a growing negative media reaction to net zero’. He added: ‘What is missing in the current debate is a positive message. We do have all the design strategies and technology to create net-zero homes now that are not only affordable but more healthy and comfortable and would lift many families out of fuel poverty.’ Clark urged Blair to visit Mikhail Riches and Cathy Hawley's 2019 Stirling Prize-winning Goldsmith Street residential scheme in Norwich, which he said could ‘demonstrate the inverse of his thesis, as it creates financial benefits and a better quality of life’. He said architects should ‘promote the business benefits of sustainable design, and demonstrate by example that a regenerative, sustainable future’ is possible. Studio Saar co-founders Ananya Singhal and Jonny Buckland said in a joint statement that they ‘firmly believe humanity can move completely away from using fossil fuels in the built environment’. They added: ‘If we reach for the stars and challenge ourselves through aggressive targets, we can incentivise the development of effective solutions for climate change. ‘[The] UK's net zero journey is not a threat, but an opportunity. If embraced by the whole country, it will put us in the vanguard of the fight, enabling us to develop solutions we can share with the rest of the world, benefiting us all and spurring on immeasurable growth.’ ‘The science is clear: we must not only decarbonise, but we must do so urgently’ While Volkan Doda, head of design technologies at Atelier Ten, said Blair was ‘spot on’ in suggesting a ‘wide perspective on sustainability and pragmatism’ was ‘essential’ to deliver sustainable design, he added: ‘What he fails to recognise is that if we are to build the better future, we cannot simply surrender and change course when challenged by perceived shifts in public opinion. ‘We also cannot ignore science as we widen our perspective on sustainability. The science is clear: we must not only decarbonise, but we must do so urgently. We must also do so without adding more strain on other planetary systems. ‘Building designers are already rising to this challenge. Politicians should follow suit and lead by improving public opinion informed by science, instead of pitting it against science.’ A recent history of net zero in the UK In 2019, Conservative prime minister Theresa May pledged that Britain would ‘reach net zero by 2050’ – effectively eradicating its overall impact on the climate by the middle of this century. She said at the time that it was crucial to achieve this goal ‘o ensure we protect our planet for future generations’. May's successor, Boris Johnson, said in 2021 that the government's net zero strategy was ‘to lead the world in ending our contribution to climate change’. He added: ‘By moving first and making the UK the birthplace of the Green Industrial Revolution, we are building a defining competitive edge.’ Labour prime minister Keir Starmer said last year that Britain would aim for an 81 per cent cut from its 1990 carbon emission levels in 2035. He also reinstated a requirement, dropped by his Tory predecessor Rishi Sunak, for all new cars sold after 2030 to have some form of electric, hybrid or zero-emission power. A spokesperson for the current government said this month: ‘The clean energy mission is in the DNA of this government because it is the route to energy security, lower bills, and good jobs for our country. ‘We have already seen £43 billion of private investment announced into clean energy since July, with businesses backing our plan to deliver good jobs for working people, including 2,000 only last week in carbon capture and storage. ‘We will continue to deliver our mission to make our country secure and drive economic growth for our Plan for Change.’ A technical accreditation scheme for net-zero buildings, developed by key bodies including the RIBA, is set to launch this year. From January 2026, completed buildings will be able to obtain verification under the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard. However, several whole-life carbon experts last month criticised ‘several serious flaws’ with the initiative.

In our review, we massively praised the game as “an overstimulating barrage of visceral hyperviolence,” and you can get a couple days early access if you pre-order the Premium Edition. Regardless of which edition you plan to buy, if you happen to own a Steam Deck, there is some unfortunate news. While DOOM 2016 and its sequel, Eternal, perform well on Valve’s handheld platform, sadly, the same isn’t true of DOOM The Dark Ages as it is reportedly a “nightmare” on Steam Deck, even at “low-quality” settings and in more linear areas. DOOM The Dark Ages is a “nightmare” on Steam Deck DOOM 2016 is verified for the Steam Deck, meanwhile, Eternal is listed as “playable”. Despite not being verified like its predecessor, Eternal is able to run smoothly on the Steam Deck with even decent settings. Unfortunately, even at low settings, DOOM The Dark Ages is barely functional. SteamDeckHQ has shared their impressions of “How DOOM The Dark Ages runs on Steam Deck”. In short, the answer is terrible, but there’s a lot of detail included. The outlet tested the game using Steam OS 3.7.6 Preview, and they also used the “Bleeding-Edge beta for Proton Experimental”. According to the outlet, “Trying to play the first chapter at XeSS Quality Mode and low-quality presets at 1280×720 resolution was a nightmare”. This immediately spells nothing but bad news as the first chapter “is a more linear level” rather than an open and elaborate area as seen later in the game. For one of the more open areas, the outlet cites The Siege Part 1 as “one of the more demanding chapters”. Here, the performance is even worse, and SteamDeckHQ only managed to get “30 FPS at all by turning the resolution down to 960×540,” which “makes the game extremely blurry and pixelated,” and still suffers “drops into the mid-20s every now and then”. It’s a huge shame that DOOM The Dark Ages is not functional on the Steam Deck. It’s technically playable as you can boot it up, but it’s not an experience you’d enjoy. Patches could possibly happen in the future, but nothing is guaranteed, so it’s definitely not a game to buy if you solely want it for the Steam Deck. If you are able to play on PC or consoles, then we do recommend the newest DOOM installment as it is fantastic. It’s more of the same heavy metal, gory action the series is renowned for, only this time the spectacle and carnage is even bigger. Follow us today...       Ernest S. Harbaugh, a Cybertruck owner from Ohio, states that 28 children laughed at his Cybertruck after a minor problem resulted in it being towed on a flatbed. Ernest says the children were initially cheering the Cybertruck, but their enthusiasm turned to skepticism when the truck experienced an issue that rendered it undrivable. The issue began when Ernest drove his 10-year-old son to a baseball match in his Cybertruck. Ernest placed his son’s baseball gear in the front trunk (frunk); however, when they arrived at the field, the frunk wouldn’t open. This is quite frustrating; however, the Cybertruck owner and father stated he was prepared to drive 40 minutes back home to fetch a replacement glove for his son. Regrettably, despite his willingness to make this sacrifice to support his child, Ernest states that the Cybertruck detected an issue with the frunk and went into “Limp Mode.” This is where the truck limits the top speed to 15 miles per hour, meaning that, besides repositioning the vehicle to be towed, there is nothing the owner can do. At this point, Ernest says he was so frustrated that he briefly considered tying a rope around the frunk, connecting it to a tree, and yanking the frunk open. The frustrated Cybertruck owner shared his story on the Tesla Cybertruck Owners group on Facebook. He writes… “Emergency, frunk won’t open!!! Is there a way to manually open it??? Just about ready to loop a strap through the top corners and tie it to a tree, then back up and rip it off WhistlinDiesel style. So pissed! My son’s baseball bag was in there, and the freaking latch decided to allow an inch or two of up-and-down movement but not actually unlatch. I was going to make the 39-minute drive to get another glove back at the house, only to find that despite the frunk not being able to open, the truck was aware it was not fully closed and retracted. So, while I had problems driving to the game, I was now only allowed a maximum speed of 15MPH. Tesla service did end up getting in touch with me. After all the screen resets and power shutdown cycles, it was sent to the service center on a flatbed. I was stuck with a $50 Uber bill, and 28 ten-year-old kids went from thinking the Cybertruck was the coolest vehicle to pointing and laughing as it was towed away on a flatbed truck.” This is definitely not ideal, and below his post, Ernest included a picture of his Cybertruck loaded onto a flatbed and next to a baseball field. It’s an unusual contrast when you consider how differently some kids view the Cybertruck. In a completely unexpected twist from another Cybertruck story, one owner recently returned to his truck to find a handwritten note from an 8-year-old who was having a birthday party nearby. The boy said he loved the Cybertruck and wanted it to be part of his big day. It's a reminder that, for every group of laughing little leaguers, there's another group of young fans who see the Cybertruck as something futuristic and cool. Looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners offered suggestions on how Ernest might be able to unlock his frunk. A fellow Cybertruck owner, Ron Shaw, writes… “Use the physical button in front of the bumper!!!! That bypasses the Bluetooth controls.” Another Cybertruck owner, Addam Kuzman, asks… “Have you tried the app, touch screen, and push button?” A third Cybertruck owner, Joshua Shea, suggests hooking up a 9-volt battery to open the frunk. These are all good recommendations for a general issue with the frunk; they are especially useful if the Cybertruck is dead and the owner wants to open the frunk. If a Cybertruck completely turns off, you can use the 48-volt battery to jump-start the vehicle. However, the problem is that the jump-start leads for the low-voltage system are located under the Cybertruck frunk. In this case, as Joshua pointed out, you can connect a 9-volt battery to open the frunk automatically. However, in Ernest's case, the reason the Cyberturck’s frunk is not opening is not due to a lack of power; rather, it is because of an issue with the latch mechanism. In this instance, the next course of action is to tow the truck to the nearest Tesla service center for a closer inspection. What makes experiences like Ernest’s even more compelling is how they contrast with the generally smooth—yet still occasionally unexpected—challenges of owning other Tesla models. While some owners are contending with unusual mechanical quirks like a frunk that won’t open or a vehicle that suddenly enters limp mode, others are discovering that the costs of electric vehicle ownership can creep up in less visible ways. For instance, one Tesla Model Y owner reported a surprising 134% jump in their Edison electricity bill—even though they only charged after 11 p.m. Here’s what happened during their first month with a Model Y, and why it might give potential EV buyers something else to think about beyond just range and features. Regrettably, as Ernest points out, seeing the Cybertruck loaded onto a flatbed made the kids, who were excited about the Cybertruck, point and laugh at the all-electric truck.
