GAMEDEV.NETSecurely store a string in a C++ program?I am looking for a way to store a string in a C++ program, preferably in code, without making it visible in a hex editor that opens the executable. I can think of many different ways to do this, but if any simple standard way of doing this exists, that would be better. I don't know much about secure strings but these seem to be focused on zeroing memory after the string goes out of scope, which is not the primary issue I am trying to solve. How can I prevent a string from being visibl0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 203 Ansichten

WWW.POLYGON.COMThe best movies leaving Netflix, Max, and Prime at the end of August 2024Were almost to the end of the month, and that means a lot of coming and going on every major streaming platform. And while plenty of exciting movies are on the way in September, were here to make sure you dont miss the gems leaving at the end of August. To help you close out summer with the best movies possible, weve put together a list of the very best movies leaving streaming services at the end of the month, including a unique coming-of-age movie, two dark fantasy trips, and two vibes masterpieces from the great Michael Mann. Here are the best movies leaving streaming at the end of August.Editors pick: The Edge of SeventeenDirector: Kelly Fremon CraigCast: Hailee Steinfeld, Haley Lu Richardson, Blake JennerLeaving Netflix: Aug. 31Teenagers arent all movies make them out to be. Sure, they have their moments of pluckiness or compassionate understanding, and most will turn out all right in a few years, but theres a lot of selfishness to get through first. And very few movies have ever portrayed that selfishness as well as The Edge of Seventeen. The movie follows Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), a young girl struggling through life with her brother (Blake Jenner) and mom (Kyra Sedgwick) after the unexpected death of her dad. In her grief, Nadine is mean, angry, and seemingly blind to the grief of everyone around her, all problems that only get worse when her best friend (Haley Lu Richardson) starts dating her brother. All of this may sound like a bit of a drag, but among the movies many strengths is how wonderfully funny it manages to stay from front to back. This is thanks in large part to Steinfelds incredible performance, which walks a perfect line, constantly keeping Nadine thoroughly mean and undeniably charming. Its the rare movie where you spend the whole time not rooting for the main character to succeed but for her to realize that she is being a jerk. There arent enough movies like this, about likable characters who are totally wrong, but thats probably because its not nearly as easy as The Edge of Seventeen makes it look. Austen GoslinMovies leaving Prime VideoBram Stokers DraculaDirector: Francis Ford CoppolaCast: Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeves, Winona RyderLeaving Prime Video: Aug. 31When you think of actors who exude the unearthly sex appeal and monstrous inclination one would expect from the iconic Count Dracula, Gary Oldman isnt exactly the first name that would leap to most folks minds. Thats what makes his performance in Francis Ford Coppolas 1992 horror fantasy so remarkable, as Oldmans out-of-character portrayal of the sullen, blood-sucking libertine opposite Keanu Reeves performance as the heroic Jonathan Harker makes for one of the most memorable incarnations of the Count to ever be put on screen.Combined with the films gorgeous practical set designs, elaborate costumes courtesy of designer Eiko Ishioka, and some notable supporting performances by Anthony Hopkins and Tom Waits, Bram Stokers Dracula is one of the most unique films in Coppolas highly celebrated body of work. And with Megalopolis around the corner, the time is right to revisit one of his classics. Toussaint EganMovies leaving NetflixMiami ViceDirector: Michael MannCast: Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Naomie HarrisLeaving Netflix: Aug. 31Michael Mann has made a number of certified cinematic bangers across his long and illustrious career, like his 1995 symphonic crime drama Heat, one of my all-time favorite movies. But no other film in his oeuvre is more quintessentially Mann-core than Miami Vice, the feature-length adaptation of the 1984 crime drama series Mann produced that starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. The plot couldnt be any further from the point. Heres the real heart of Miami Vices enduring appeal: It simply doesnt look or feel like any other crime drama of its era. Manns experiment with digital photography yields a level of uncanny realism through its landscape of crushed brown and black textures and bleached white beach vistas. Its a crime drama that oozes a sense of cool entirely on its own terms, a grand experiment that has yielded a cult following and reappraisal as one of the directors best. In short, Miami Vice is a vibe. TEMovies leaving MaxThe Green KnightDirector: David LoweryCast: Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Ralph InesonLeaving Max: Aug. 31The Green Knight is one of the most beautiful movies of the last decade. Director David Lowerys film retells the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, in which the knight Sir Gawain (Dev Patel) decapitates a mysterious Green Knight (Ralph Ineson) and travels to receive an equal blow one year later. While Lowerys film technically tells the whole story, its main focus is the odd events that befall Gawain in his travels to the Green Chapel.Watching this movie feels like being trapped in a dream, a flood of gorgeous images loosely connected by an outstanding performance from Patel as the neer-do-well knight who isnt sure whether hes on a march to the gallows. In each progressively more strange scene, Patel sells Gawains wonderful incredulousness, somehow simultaneously rooted in the weirdness of his present moment, and drifting mentally to his appointment with a deity that might wish him dead. Its bizarre, poetic, and tremendously affecting in ways that make it a more than worthy adaptation of the classic Arthurian tale. AGMovies leaving Criterion ChannelThiefDirector: Michael MannCast: James Caan, Willie Nelson, Tuesday WeldLeaving Criterion Channel: Aug. 31The late, great James Caan (The Godfather) stars in Michael Manns 1981 neo-noir heist thriller Thief as Frank, an ex-con and professional safecracker looking to go straight and start a family. Unfortunately for him, Frank is denied his share of his latest heist, forcing him to accept an assignment from the Mob in order to break even. With a beautiful synth score by Tangerine Dream, dazzling nighttime cinematography by Donald Thorin, and an iconic and emotionally nuanced performance by Caan, Thief is a stone-cold stunner and a gem in the crown of one of the finest directors working today. End of blurb. TE0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 211 Ansichten

DESIGN-MILK.COMThe Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai Debuts Relaxed LuxuryTo many, Cancun may conjure images of raucous spring break parties and throngs of tourists seeking all-inclusive resorts along a bustling hotel zone. However, the Riviera Maya region, of which Cancun is a part, holds a hidden gem that defies these preconceptions. Nestled within an expansive nature preserve, the Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai made its debut as a refined and sustainable addition to the Caribbean coastline, introducing a fresh approach to relaxed luxury, honoring both the environment and cultural heritage of the Yucatan Peninsula. With interiors crafted by Ian Schrager Company in collaboration with the acclaimed Rockwell Group, and architecture by Edmonds International, the three main buildings that make up the Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai converge in the architectural equivalent of a cenote. The design of the resort emphasizes minimal environmental impact, preserving the regions natural beauty, from the vibrant flora and fauna to the nearby Mesoamerican Reef, the worlds second-largest coral reef. The property is surrounded by rich local biodiversity, featuring tropical fruit trees, flowering plants, and wildlife including iguanas, spider monkeys, and sea turtles.Guests arriving at the property are guided through a three-mile road lined with mangroves, gradually transitioning into the secluded world of the resort. The timber-clad exteriors blend seamlessly with the surrounding forest, and upon entering, visitors are greeted with expansive views of the ocean framed by reflecting pools. This visual narrative continues throughout the property, where water elements and architectural details evoke the natural landscape. The resort offers 182 guest rooms, including 30 suites, many of which feature private plunge pools and terraces with views of the ocean or mangroves. The interiors reflect the classic EDITION aesthetic of neutral palettes and regional influences, with materials and textures that honor the local culture. A standout is the Sky Rooftop Villa, North Americas largest hotel penthouse, boasting 27,000 square feet of space, an infinity pool, and expansive ocean views. The resort also features The Spa, designed to reflect the cenote-inspired architecture, offering hydrotherapy pools, a Turkish hammam, and wellness treatments that draw on local botanicals.Photography courtesy of EDITION hotels.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 230 Ansichten

UXDESIGN.CC8 Figma tips for UI3Figmas new UI3 brings change, but also brings new tools to tryout.Since Figmas Config back in June, I anxiously waited to get beta-access to the new UI3. I immediately wanted to adjust to the new symbols, layout, and tool placement. Not to mention, it was forewarned that all users will eventually have to useUI3.But I wasnt aware that the UI3 was being slowlyyy rolled out to Figma users*. I expected to begin using it immediately after Configs keynote, but I had to wait well over amonth.*Note: Teammates on the same Figma plan may get access before you do. I became confused when one of my peers was sharing their screen to show work in Figma, and I could see they had the UI3. After a Figma forum search, I was disappointed to see I was at the mercy of whoever grants early access to theUI.So if you still dont have access to the UI3, save this article and keep being patient (maybe pray to the Figma UI3 lords). Once you do finally have access, play around in the new UI, then come back to thisarticle. Now, lets dive into these 8 tips to be equipped to use FigmasUI3.Table ofcontentsSwap back to the previousUISelect matching layers & bulk-edit textUse suggested auto-layoutUse follow prototypeHide hints on click for prototypesFix auto-layout withoverlaysUse annotations inDev-modePin files to projects and workspaces1. Swap back to the previousUII know this tip may seem to defeat the purpose, but a re-design can be difficult to get used to. If you just got access to the UI3 and have many design deliverables due, you may not have time to learn the new UI quiteyet.Steps:1aSelect the Help and resources question-mark icon in the bottom-right of theUI1bFrom the menu, select Go back to previousUIHelp and resources inFigma1cOnce ready for the UI3, open the Help and resources menu Select Use newUI^Go to table ofcontents2. Select matching layers & bulk-edit textThe placement and functionality of these tools has changed from the previous UI to UI3. Since UI3 doesnt include the dynamic tool-bar* at the top-center of the canvas, the select matching layers tool was moved to the Actions item in the bottommenu. The bulk-edit text tools functionality was merged with the select matching layers tool. Once youve selected text layers manually or from using the select matching layers tool, you can simply type to update all text layers atonce.Steps:2aSelect layers in the file Select Actions in the menu Select matching layers (or use Option+Command+A)2bMake updates to the layers (color-change, swap components, etc.)2cIf updating text layers, select Enter or Return Make texteditsSelect matching layers tool in the menu ofFigma*On a side note: I loved the dynamic tool-bar at the top of the UI (RIP). The toolbar updated depending on what I was doing in the canvas. So Im bummed by this change, but they may continue to make improvements as they receive more feedback from the UI3beta.^Go to table ofcontents3. Use suggested auto-layoutThis tool brings value for both new and advanced Figma users. Auto-layout is Figmas most difficult concept to understand, and its tedious to carry out. Suggested auto-layout can do it for you (and quitewell)*.Steps:3aSelect the elements for the frame Right-click to open the tool menu Select More layout options Select Suggest auto-layout (or Control+Shift+A)Apply suggested auto-layout to create aframe3bCheck the frames (ensure hugging and filling arecorrect)3cAdjust padding and spacing in parent and childframes3dRename the frame layers manually or by using Figma AIs rename layers (maybe Figma will integrate the rename layers tools here in thefuture)Suggested auto-layouts output*Note: This tool cannot support complex frames yet. Figma recommends you use this tool in batches for many child-parent frames.^Go to table ofcontents4. Use follow prototypeWhen you create a prototype, bugs can happen. Maybe the overlay didnt correctly pop-up or the hover effect didnt work. It can be difficult to pin-point the exact location of the bug as you check the prototypeespecially if the prototype iscomplex. When previewing a prototype, the follow prototype tool allows you to keep track of which frame youre viewing on the prototype. So when you find a bug, youll know where itis!Steps:4aSelect the preview button for the prototypes starting point (or Shift+Space)Select Preview on the prototypes startingpoint4bSelect the overflow menu in the preview windows toolbar Select Follow prototype (if unchecked)Select Follow prototype from the windowstoolbar4cTest the prototype (you can still select R torestart)Follow prototype used in preview-mode^Go to table ofcontents5. Hide hints on click for prototypesIf you conduct usability tests on UserTesting.com or similar tools, you may encounter participants who click to see the blue highlights to find the prototypes interactions. Well, this defeats the purpose of a usability test.Next time you conduct any research with Figma prototypes, hide the hints on click so participants can no longer cheat and find the interactions.Steps:5aSelect the play button at a prototypes starting point (or Option+Command+Enter)5bSelect the overflow menu in the top-bar of the prototype Unselect Show hints on click (ifchecked)Unselect Show hints on click in play-mode^Go to table ofcontents6. Fix auto-layout withoverlaysWhen you have a component with an overlay, like a dropdown (or select), you dont want it to push other content in the frame down, and you dont want the overlay to appear behind otherlayers.Issues when including an overlay in auto-layoutMy old fix for this issue was to absolute-position the overlay (now called ignore auto-layout). But Ive found a new solutionadjust the frames canvas-stacking to be first ontop.Steps:6aMake sure the components height doesnt include the overlay (for a dropdown, only the input field should be included)6bInsert the component into the targetframe6cSelect the parent frame of the component Select Auto-layout settings in the design panel Select First ontopFirst on top canvas stacking helps show overlays when using auto-layout6dRepeat step 6c if there are multiple parent frames impacting theoverlay^Go to table ofcontents7. Use annotations inDev-modeThough Dev-mode has been around for some time, Im still acclimating to its features and beginning to use it more. One feature thats very useful is the Annotate tool. With this tool, you can add special notes and pin properties like height, font size, color,etc.Steps:7aSwap to Dev-mode using the tool-bar (orShift+D)7bSelect the Annotate tool from the tool-bar (orShift+T)7cSelect an element in the design to annotate Type in the field to create anoteUse the Annotate tool inDev-mode7dIf needed, select +Property Pin properties to theelement7eTo remove annotations in Dev-mode, right-click on the frame Select Remove annotationsHere is what a finished annotation looks like in Dev-mode:Finished annotations to a design inDev-mode^Go to table ofcontents8. Pin files to projects and workspacesFiles can be difficult to find in Figmafor designers, engineers, and stakeholders. For important files, like Dev-ready designs, you can pin them to projects and workspaces to make them more findable. This way, you dont have to send the same Figma file link to the same person 5timesSteps:8aGo to a workspaces team Select a project to view its files (preferably one you have edit-access to)8bRight-click on a file Select Pin to project or Pin to workspace (the file will be shown in 2 places: the file list and pinnedlist)Pin a file to the project or to the workspaceHere is what the pinned file looks like on the project-level:Pinned file on the project-levelHere is what the pinned file looks like on the workspace-level:Pinned file on the workspace-level8cTo remove the pinned project, right-click on the file in either the file list or pinned list Select Remove project pin or Remove workspace pin^Go to table ofcontentsThats all for now, folks! You may have noticed, I didnt mention tips for the notorious Figma AI. My organization hasnt approved the AI features, and my personal account hasnt been chosen by the Figma UI3 lords. So, I havent been able to get first-hand access to the newtools. And if you didnt know, Figma had to remove the Make a design AI feature since it was copying existing designs. That being said, Im patiently waiting for Figma AI, and will soon post another article with some AI tips. Staytuned!I hope this article helped you learn at least one new Figma tip. Thanks forreading!8 Figma tips for UI3 was originally published in UX Collective on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 205 Ansichten

WWW.ENGADGET.COMThreads is testing disappearing posts that expire after 24 hoursThreads is testing the option for users to put a 24-hour expiration timer on their posts, after which the post and all replies would disappear, Stories-style. A spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that the feature is being tested among a group of users after it was first spotted earlier this summer by developer Alessandro Paluzzi. It sounds a lot like pre-X Twitters Fleets, which didnt exactly catch on. But, the ephemeral format could save habitual post-deleters some trouble. It comes a few months after Instagram head Adam Mosseri shared that Threads was experimenting with auto-archiving. That optional feature would let users designate a date for their posts to be hidden from the feed. But Threads users in the past have indicated that they largely arent into the idea of automatic archiving, and such a feature hasnt yet shown up on a wider scale. Threads hit the 200 million user mark at the beginning of August, and recently introduced an analytics tool called Insights for users particularly those with large followings to keep track of their accounts performance. Meta also said the option to schedule posts is on the way. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/social-media/threads-is-testing-disappearing-posts-that-expire-after-24-hours-211329320.html?src=rss0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 204 Ansichten
