Sleeping Dogs movie no longer in the works, says star Donnie Yen
They say to let sleeping dogs lie, but one sleeping dog has laid down for bit too long. Donnie Yens Sleeping Dogs adaptation is no more, the actor shared with Polygon this week.Fans of the 2012 Hong Kong-set action game have been waiting for years for an update on a live-action film adaptation. First announced in 2017, the Sleeping Dogs movie was to star Yen, who rose to international fame in the Ip Man franchise and made a Hollywood splash in Star Wars: Rogue One, as game protagonist Wei Shen. In 2018, Yen said the movie was in motion, and at one point, Indonesian gore maestro Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for Us, The Shadow Strays) was in talks to direct. That would have been quite the appealing combination of talent for an adaptation of a beloved title, but as Yen shared on a Zoom call this week, the project is no longer in the works at least as far as the Hong Kong legend is concerned.I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights, Yen says. I waited for years. Years. And I really want to do it. I have all these visions in my head, and unfortunately I dont know, you know how Hollywood goes, right? I spent many, many years on it. It was an unfortunate thing.Well, onto better things. The news likely wont come as a surprise to fans the lack of any release date announcement or further information wasnt promising but its disappointing nonetheless. Sleeping Dogs always seemed like a natural fit for Yen, both as a star and potentially as a director its a martial arts-infused Hong Kong crime thriller clearly inspired by many of Yens HK classics, and there are few more skilled leading men at delivering the kind of action you would expect. Its not the first Sleeping Dogs project to stall in the development phase either. A planned sequel and spinoff were both cancelled in the 2010s, which means Sleeping Dogs fans will have to settle for the great original game and its many DLC offerings or some of the terrific movies the game was inspired by.Yen remains busy. His new movie, the hybrid courtroom drama/action thriller The Prosecutor directed and starring the actor, is out in theaters starting Jan. 10. Yen has also been attached to a John Wick spin-off centered on his John Wick: Chapter 4 character Caine, and hes working on new entries in both the Ip Man and Flash Point franchises.

Riot Games offices closed to all but critical functions during deadly LA fires
A brush fire burns near homes in Pacific Palisades, California | Photo: David Swanson/AFP via Getty ImagesLos Angeles-based League of Legends maker Riot Games has closed its offices to all but critical functions through at least the end of the week due to ongoing wildfires spread across the city and surrounding areas. Riot Games Santa Monica office is several blocks outside current evacuation warning zones for the Pacific Palisades fire, the largest of the five major fires in Los Angeles Country. That fire had spread to 17,000 acres as of Thursday morning.Well over 100,000 people have been forced to evacuate as days of unpredictable, heavy winds pushed fire across the city. At least five people have died due to the fires, and more than 2,000 structures including homes, businesses, and schools have been damaged or destroyed. Though Riot Games is set up to support remote work, the company is encouraging its employees to put safety and family first. For Rioters reading this, please remember, the mission and the work will always be there, CEO Dylan Jadeja wrote on LinkedIn Thursday. Right now, what matters most is taking care of yourselves and each other. It takes a village to do what we do and we are all in this moment together. For those in our offices around the world who have been reaching out, your support has been incredible were reminded once again how strong a team Riot truly is.Jadeja also wrote that Riot Games will be ready to stand up for Los Angeles and give back in every way we can to all of these communities when the immediate danger surpasses. After all, while our reach is global, the heart of Riot Games has always been in Los Angeles, he wrote. Los Angeles raised us and we are proud to call this great city our home.Firefighters continue to fight the devastating wildfires as the largest among them remain at 0% containment Thursday. Online, California residents and others are sharing resources to help their communities; Planet Fitness gyms in Los Angeles Country are open to non-members and others are handing out quality masks to protect residents from dangerous wildfire smoke. There are tons of regional and grassroots organizations accepting donations, including the LAFD Wildfire Emergency Fund, Mutual Aid LA, Our Big Kitchen, and more.

Where to pre-order the Lenovo Legion Go S
The Lenovo Legion Go S was only recently announced at CES 2025, but you can already reserve your own from select retailers ahead of the Feb. 14 launch. Currently, Best Buy is the only place you can pre-order the new $729.99 handheld, but well continue to update this post as new options become available. While you can only pre-order the Windows-based version of the Legion Go S right now, a variant equipped with SteamOS will also be available at launch, and Lenovo has stated that additional configurations of the handheld will arrive in May.On a cosmetic level, the Legion Go S closely resembles the Asus ROG Ally with its curved hand grips and offset thumbsticks, but is equipped with more powerful hardware. The Legion Go S boasts an AMD Ryzen Z2 CPU, in addition to double the amount of RAM and storage when compared to the original ROG Ally. The 8-inch display is also sharper, with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200. However, the most substantial difference is its adoption of SteamOS, which offers a more streamlined, and user-friendly experience when compared to other Windows-based handhelds.

Nine of My Favorite Products for Cleaning the Kitchen
We may earn a commission from links on this page.I write about cleaning and organizing, yes, but in real life, I also actually have to clean my home. Sometimes, that does mean using techniques and hacks, but other times, it just means rolling up my sleeves and getting to work. After three decades of life and bonus experience actually having to test and review products, I have some strong opinions. Here's what I swear by when I clean my kitchen. Update your sponge for maximum kitchen cleaningIt's easy to snap up a plain old sponge at the corner store, so I'll never turn my nose up at something available and cheapbut if you have the option, you should upgrade your sponge. As I've mentioned before, I've been obsessed with my Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Ultra Foamy since I upgraded to this heavier-duty melamine sponge a few months ago. Melamine sponges like the Magic Eraser are, on their own, a superior alternative to any other kind of sponge for cleaning, since they tackle stains, scuffs, and sticky stuff with an ease no other sponge can match. With its built-in suds pod, though, the Ultra Foamy, is a true beast among beasts. Every time I use one, I'm reminded how impressive it is. Kitchen messes stand absolutely no chance. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Ultra Foamy, 5-Pack $8.94 at Amazon Learn More Learn More $8.94 at Amazon What makes these great are the little pods of foaming cleaner that are inserted in the sponge. Look at those suds pods! Credit: Lindsey Ellefson For dishes and other general cleaning, I am also a big proponent of silicone sponges. They feel a little weird in the hand, yes, but their tendrils scrub gunk off things easily, plus they don't get all gross after being wet repeatedly like normal sponges do. It's also more eco-friendly, since they last forever. I've had mine for about five years. I installed a little hook in my kitchen and just hang it up to dry when I'm done with it. The best cleaning products for your kitchenGenerally, you don't need to be told that you should buy floor cleaner, but it's still helpful to get someone's opinion on the best one, so that's what I'm here to provide. As I've discussed, I have been impressed by the new PineSol formulation, which is twice as concentrated as the original version. Not only do I notice this cutting through messes on the floor and flat surfaces a little easier than the PineSol I grew up with, but the scent is stronger, too, and for about $13, you can't beat it. I use it about once a week, but don't need to use as much, so I'm saving money by not having to re-up, as well. The bottle below has been in my rotation for about two months and still has plenty left. Twice as concentrated! Credit: Lindsey Ellefson I also recommend a bottle of Brasso for all your metal needs. Yes, there are great hacks out there to spruce up your fixtures, but this seven-in-one polish is worth a pickup on your next shopping trip because it's so easy to use. For under $5, it's not a major splurge, but the impact it has on stainless steel, bronze, brass, copper, and more is invaluable. Just use a little bit to start. You can always add more if you're not getting your preferred result. I also use this in the bathroom, making it an economical buy.Because I am as interested in aesthetics as I am cleanliness, I've also been really fond of Biom all-purpose wipes. For about $45, you get a starter kit with an unobtrusive dispenser that looks more like decor than a cleaning product. You can refill it with the wipes, which come in hand sanitizing and all-purpose cleaning versions in scents like grapefruit and lavender. It's a more sustainable option than continuing to buy packs of wipes, since the wipes are compostable and refills come in eco-friendly packaging, and while I love that, I'm especially keen on the part where I can have them out on display on my counter without making my space ugly. The wipes are powerful and bust through grime well, so keeping them within arm's reach is helpful. How convenient! Credit: Lindsey Ellefson Fun and easy kitchen-cleaning gadgetsA few weeks ago, I picked up some silicone liners for my refrigerator. It didn't seem like a big deal at the time, but they've had an outsized impact on the cleanliness of my fridge just because they're so much easier to clean than the shelves themselves. I can simply remove my silicone sheets, let them hit room temp, and then much more easily get the spills off them in the sink. I got ones like these: Washable Refrigerator Mats $6.99 at Amazon Learn More Learn More $6.99 at Amazon There are also some viral cleaning products out there that can make you feel like a CleanTok star. For instance, if you want a chuckle while you clean your microwave, the Angry Mama microwave steam cleaner ($5.88) is a social media favorite that can be filled with vinegar and water, then nuked for five to seven minutes to create a steam that removes caked-on gunk and water stains from inside your machine. Its funny little face is just a bonus. For more hands-on cleaning, the Rubbermaid Reveal power scrubber ($19.98) is a scaled-down version of those viral electric scrubbing brushes you see all over social media, making it just right for cleaning sinks, tile grout, microwaves, and small spaces around the kitchen. Finally, you obviously need a mop for your kitchen and although there are a lot of heavy-duty mop-and-bucket options out there, it's a lot easier to go for a Swiffer. The PowerMop and WetJet are both great options here, since they have their cleaning solutions built in and dispense them from a nozzle at the push of a button on the handle, but there are some differences between the two. Here's my full breakdown and comparison.

What Counts as Cardio (and What Doesn't)
Cardio is good for us. We need both cardio and strength training for basic health, as well as our athletic goals. But what actually counts as cardio? Can you count walking? Lifting weights? Anything so long as youre in the right zone? Let me break it down. What is the definition of cardio?Trick question! Cardio is a nickname for a certain rough category of exercise, and it doesn't have a precise definition. Youll find different definitions of it depending on who you ask, and a lot of the research on the benefits of cardio just calls it exercise." The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans describes aerobic activity, or cardio, as when:...the bodys large muscles move in a rhythmic manner for a sustained period of time. Brisk walking, running, bicycling, jumping rope, and swimming are all examples. Aerobic activity causes a persons heart to beat faster, and they will breathe harder than normal. That matches how most fitness professionals use the term. Note that the key components are:Uses large muscles (like the legs; you cant get cardio by twiddling your thumbs)Is rhythmic (as when you pedal a bicycle for hundreds of revolutions)Can be sustained (like a 20-minute bike ride, but unlike a set of 10 squats)This definition includes walking, running, cycling, swimming, and using machines like a rower, elliptical, or stair machine at the gym.Is there a certain heart rate or zone that counts as cardio? No, there isnt a strict dividing line between what counts as cardio and what doesnt. The guidelines I quote above treat moderate intensity cardio as the minimum to target, but thats not defined in terms of heart rate. I have a breakdown here of what moderate really means, but briefly: Anything at the effort level of a normal-paced walk (about 20 minutes per mile) is moderate.I know thats not the answer you were hoping to find, so heres another data point: the American Heart Association says that moderate exercise corresponds to 50-70% of your maximum heart rate. (Vigorous is 70-85%.)Most of us dont actually know our true max heart rate, and formulas like 220 minus your age arent accurate. So take that with a grain of salt. Its more helpful to consider how exercise feels: Moderate exercise will get you breathing heavier than at rest, maybe sweating a little bit, and with a noticeably higher heart rate than when youre sitting quietly. You dont have to be out of breath; moderate exercise is conversational, in the sense that you could, literally, engage in conversation while you do it.If you want to get health benefits from cardio, you may want to pay more attention to intensity. Moderate exercise is great, but vigorous exercise (where it feels hard, and you wont be able to speak in full sentences) is also excellent to have in the mix. The Norwegian 4x4 is an accessible cardio workout that features plenty of vigorous work.Does walking count as cardio?Yes, in the sense that it meets the minimum guidelines. It is moderate intensity exercise and it counts toward your minutes per week (no matter what your heart rate is while you do it).But if you have athletic goals, walking alone is probably not enough to achieve them. If walking feels easy, you probably want to increase the intensity to increase your cardio fitness. Jogging or rucking would be good next steps.Does lifting weights count as cardio? No, lifting weights does not count as cardio (with a few exceptions, which Ill discuss in a minute.) Remember, cardio has to be rhythmic and sustained. If you arent doing the same movement over and over for, say, 10 minutes, its not cardio. So three sets of 10 on the chest press machine is definitely not cardio. And no, I wont change my answer based on what your heart rate monitor says. Your heart rate only measures the intensity of cardio exercise if you are doing cardio exercise. Strength training is still strength training (not cardio) no matter what zone your heart rate is in.So what are those exceptions I mentioned? Exercising with weights can count as cardio if it meets the definition: rhythmic and sustained. Most people dont do this! But if youre training for a kettlebell half marathon, which is 30 minutes of continuous lifting with a light kettlebell (you arent allowed to put the kettlebell down until time is up), then yes, that is cardio.I would also categorize the kettlebell ladder workout as a form of cardio. I do so with reservationsits not continuous for the whole 30-ish minutes, but then again neither is a lot of interval training. Kettlebell swings are definitely rhythmic and involve large muscles, and the workout is designed to get your breathing and heartbeat going faster than usual for pretty much the whole time. Ill allow it.Does HIIT count as cardio? High-intensity interval training definitely taxes your cardiovascular system, but it's not necessarily the best workout when you're looking for a way to get some cardio in. If you're doing true HIIT, it's very intense, very short, and may have longish rest periods in between the hard intervals. You're working your anaerobic system, not just your aerobic capacity, so it has some of the same caveats as lifting weights. What's more, a lot of "HIIT" videos out there aren't really HIIT, and aren't even necessarily good cardio. As I've written before, "HIIT" seems to mean "a video with a timer in the corner," regardless of what kind of workout you get out of it. If you're looking for a good cardio workout, it's better to find something where you know you'll be working aerobicallywhich means being able to breathe rather than gaspthroughout the whole workout. What other exercises count as cardio?Ive given some examples already, but let me give you a longer list of things that are definitely cardio, if you do them in any sort of normal way (steady state or intervals, especially if the intervals use active rest like walking).Running, jogging, or run/walk intervals (indoor or outdoor)Cycling (indoor or outdoor)Rowing on a gym machinePaddling or rowing a small boatJumping ropeDancing (truly the most underrated form of at-home cardio)Stairmaster or stepmill machinesClimbing machines like the Jacobs Ladder or VersaclimberElliptical machinesSwimmingRoller skating or rollerbladingYard work or housework that has you moving continuously (like pushing a lawn mower or shoveling snow)I have a list of cardio options here that goes into more detail about many of the above, and heres a list of chores and recreational activities that can also count (although many are moderate level, like walking).Hopefully these examples help you choose some exercise to do. If you have specific athletic goals, though (like running a 5K or passing a fitness test for work) youll want to look into a training program that is geared toward those goals.
