Blue Origin, the space company founded by Jeff Bezos, will finally launch its first orbital-class rocket on Sunday, January 12, from Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.The three-hour launch window for the mission, called NG-1, opens at 1 a.m. EST (6 a.m. GMT). Coverage will begin approximately one hour prior to launch. You can follow the livestream on Blue Origins YouTube channel or on the companys website.The flight was originally scheduled for Friday, January 10, but the company announced on X that the launch would be delayed because the Atlantic Ocean was too rough for booster recovery.What to know about the launchThis first mission carries a test payload, called the Blue Ring Pathfinder. The objective is to check out its flight and operational capabilities as well as its ground systems, thanks to an onboard communications array, power systems, and a flight computer. This demonstration spacecraft is a prototype for the companys Blue Ring platform, which will be able to deliver multiple payloads to orbit from other companies and provide logistics and operations services in space.The total mission time will be around six hours.Blue Origin will also attempt to land the first stage of the rocket on a recovery vessel in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida. However, that is a secondary objective. The primary goal is simply to launch New Glenn successfully and certify the rocket to launch payloads related to national security.A long road to first launchThe road to New Glenns first launch has been long. While the company has been launching its suborbital rocket and spacecraft New Shepard regularly since 2015, it has yet to launch a rocket that can reach orbit.New Glenn was first announced in 2016 as a heavy-lift rocket. However, Blue Origins balancing of multiple prioritiesfrom a lunar lander to Orbital Reef, a possible replacement for the International Space Stationhas contributed to significant delays in getting New Glenn ready for launch.Once operational, New Glenn will compete with other heavy-lift rockets such as SpaceXs Falcon Heavy and ULAs Vulcan Centaur (which is also powered by Blue Origins BE-4 engines) for commercial, civil, and military contracts.

Unlike the Gamestation Retro Go that it also announced at CES this week, the Atari Gamestation Go has the clear markings of an Atari-centric gaming machine that only Atari fans will be able to discern. Most gamers, however, will definitely notice this isnt your average handheld console.The controls are quite different from the standard, at least aside from the customary D-pad, four face buttons, shoulders, and triggers. Theres a knob at the top on the left side, what Atari fans call the paddle, a clear reference to Pong and Arkanoid, two games that are best played by turning a dial to move, well, the paddle. At the bottom left is something youll probably never see on any other handheld: a trackball. Or as Atari branded it, Trak-Ball. Titles like Centipede are said to feel more natural with such a control, versus your typical joystick or, worse, directional buttons.On the opposite side lies the most unconventional control for a gaming handheld, though. Theres a full numeric keypad, but its not for crunching numbers. A few Atari games actually used such an unusual interaction method, cementing the Gamestation Gos image as something designed for true-blooded Atari fans. With that many controls to choose from, which ones should you use for which games? This year, Capital One plans to acquire Discover for $35.3 billion. The date and details aren't final yet, but changes for both Discover and Capital One cardholders could be on the horizon."Capital One has said that it will transition its cards from the Visa and Mastercard payment networks to the Discover card network," said Jason Steele, a CNET Money expert review board member and credit card expert.If you're a Capital One cardholder, experts don't expect major changes right away, but if the merger goes through, your card will likely be shifted to the Discover payment network eventually.How changing payment networks could impact youDiscover is one of the four major credit card networks, along with Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Right now, Capital One offers both Visa and Mastercard credit cards but would likely slowly begin to shift their cards to the Discover network if the acquisition goes through.Why does this matter? Discover's network is smaller than Visa and Mastercard and isn't accepted everywhere in the US or abroad."While many countries where Discover isn't widely accepted are places that aren't popular tourist destinations, some are," Steele said. For example, Discover isn't accepted in Panama, Kenya and Serbia, according to its website. In countries where Discover is accepted, the rules can vary by store. Steele also added that Discover isn't currently accepted at all major US retailers, such as Costco.However, Capital One plans to expand Discover's payment network, which could increase its footprint overseas in the future. "We continue to believe that Visa and Mastercard play a very important part in Capital One's future, but that we can build a network and a network story that over time can take more of our volume," said Capital One's CEO,Richard Fairbank, in an emailed statement.Experts think that in the long run, this merger could spell good news for both Capital One and Discover cardholders, alike."Capital One acquired Discover in large part for its processing network," said Aaron Hurd, a credit card expert and CNET Money expert review board member. Hurd predicts that over time, Capital One will expand Discover's payment network, both overseas and in the US. This expansion would make it easier to use your Discover card abroad, as well as any Capital One cards that are moved to this network.How to prepare for the Capital One and Discover mergerHurd expects Capital One to continue operating both brands somewhat autonomously for some time. "Capital One probably won't alienate Discover's large customer base by discontinuing the Discover card brand," he said. Hurd does expect small changes to products after the acquisition.If you depend on your Capital One credit card as your primary payment method, you'll likely eventually be ported over to the Discover network. Although there are plans to expand this payment network, if you're worried about traveling abroad, Steele suggests looking for a backup Visa or Mastercard option.This acquisition isn't finalized, but experts expect it will pass. US top court leans towards TikTok ban over security concerns Getty ImagesTikTok users gathered outside the Supreme CourtThe Supreme Court appears poised to uphold a law that bans TikTok in the US over national security concerns unless its China-based parent company sells the platform ahead of a 19 January deadline.The Court's nine justices heard from lawyers representing TikTok, and content creators that the ban would be a violation of free speech protections for the platform's more than 170 million users in the US.The US government argued that without a sale, TikTok could be used by China as a tool for spying and political manipulation. A decision by the top court has to be made within days. President-elect Donald Trump - who returns to the White House in just over a week - now argues against the ban.The law requires TikTok's parent company ByteDance to sell it in the US or cease operations on 19 January. The company has said it will not sell the short-form video platform.Congress passed the law with support from both the Democratic and Republican parties - a moment that marked the culmination of years of concern about the widely popular platform, which is known for its viral videos and traction among young people.The legislation does not forbid use of the app, but would require tech giants such as Apple and Google to stop offering it and inhibit updates, which analysts suggest would kill it over time. TikTok has repeatedly denied any potential influence by the Chinese Communist Party and has said the law violates the First Amendment free speech rights of its users. Noel Francisco, a former US solicitor general appearing for the platform, stressed the ban on the most popular speech platform for Americans could also open the door to a dangerous form of censorship.He argued that "the government cannot restrict speech in order to protect us from speech". "That's precisely what this law does from beginning to end."A representative for platform creators argued they should be free to use the publisher of their choice.Jeffrey L Fisher, a Stanford University law professor representing creators who sued over the law, told the court on Friday that the country has historically faced "ideological campaigns by foreign adversaries".But he said that under the First Amendment, mere ideas do not represent a national security threat.Justice department lawyer Elizabeth B Prelogar told the court that ByteDance's ties to the Chinese government made it a national security risk.She told the court that Beijing "could weaponise TikTok at any time to harm the United States".During nearly three hours of arguments, the nine justices returned time and again to the national security concerns that gave rise to the law in the first place, while also probing free speech questions."Are we supposed to ignore the fact that the ultimate parent is, in fact, subject to doing intelligence work for the Chinese government?" conservative Chief Justice John Roberts asked TikTok lawyer Mr Francisco.Justice Brett Kavanaugh drilled into concerns the US government has raised about the data the app collects on its users and how that data might be used.The risks seem like a "huge concern for the future of the country", he said.US TikTok ban: When could the app be banned and will Trump save it?The Trump questionIn December, US President-elect Donald Trump urged the court to delay its decision until he returns to the White House to enable him to seek a "political solution" to resolve the issues at hand.TikTok's lawyer told the court on Friday that, as he saw it, the platform would "go dark" on 19 January without intervention.Ms Prelogar, arguing for the US justice department, said "nothing permanent" had to happen on that day and there was still time for a sale. Forcing the app to go dark could be just the "jolt" ByteDance needs to seriously consider a sale, she said."It will fundamentally change the landscape with respect to what ByteDance might consider," she said, comparing the situation to "game of chicken" and one in which the US should not "blink first".After the hearing, legal observers predicted that the Supreme Court's justices appeared to be swayed by the government's concerns."Traditionally the Supreme Court has been willing to defer somewhat when national security is at stake," said University of Richmond law professor Carl Tobias."I expect that the justices by a majority will side with the government," he added. Jacob Hubert, a lawyer and the president of the Liberty Justice Center - which represents BASED Politics, an internet content creator - said it was still difficult to predict how the court would rule. But he says the ban would violate the freedom of speech of millions of Americans - a point he believes was effectively made by TikTok's lawyers. "It's not about China's rights, or the Communist Party's rights," he said. "It is about the rights of Americans who use TikTok to, largely, speak with other Americans."More than a hundred people braved freezing conditions in Washington DC to attend the hearing in person.Chloe Joy Sexton - one of the TikTok creators named in the suit - said that the platform brought many creators "financial independence", including many mothers. "A TikTok ban would place these women, myself included, in true financial jeopardy," she told reporters. "It would destroy both my business and the community that means so much to me."
