• Niagara System Not Rotating with Character in Animation Notify
    realtimevfx.com
I have created footprints by spawning from a Child Actor Component Renderer in a Niagara system. I then attached this Niagara system to a Notify in an Animation Sequence. The actor being spawned contains a footprint Decal. However, the spawned actor does not align its rotation with the characters rotation. Normally, any FX attached to a Notify should always align with the characters rotation. How should I fix this? 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic

  • The Night Agent Season 2 Review: An Edge Of Your Seat Spy Thriller Once Again
    www.forbes.com
Night AgentCredit: NetflixThe first season of Netflixs explosive spy-thriller The Night Agent was a rollicking good time. Its not the smartest spy show out therenot everything can be Slow Horsesbut it makes up for some of its more preposterous moments by sticking to what makes it tick: Likeable characters up against overwhelming odds, plenty of fun twists and turns, and cliffhangers galore.Season 2 doesnt try to reinvent the wheel, but it does expand the conflict with more subplots to keep track of and some globetrotting espionage. While the first season introduced us to Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) and the secretive Night Action program all with a tense presidential assassination plot, the second season takes us on a high-stakes adventure filled with ruthless terrorists, Iranian double agents and a cunning intelligence broker named Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum). The Night Agent. (L to R) Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland, Luciane Buchanan as Rose Larkin, Amanda ... [+] Warren as Catherine in episode 207 of The Night Agent. Cr. Christopher Saunders/Netflix 2024CHRISTOPHER SAUNDERS/NETFLIXSutherland is now a full Night Action agent, though hes still green as far as his superiors are concerned. When an operation in Bangkok goes bad, he doesnt know who he can trustother than Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) of courseso he goes underground. The season hits the ground running and never really lets up.Theres a whole new cast of characters onboard in Season 2. Catherine Weaver (Amanda Warren) is Sutherlands handler, a veteran Night Action agent whose history is intimately tied to Sutherlands own. We also meet Sami (Marwan Kenzari) a multilingual ex-soldier and Night Action agent who ended up as one of my favorite new characters (Id watch a Sami spinoff, Netflix).MORE FOR YOUOur heroes go toe-to-toe with Monroes goons, led by Solomon (Berto Colon) as well as a terrorist group led by the dastardly Markus (Michael Malarkey) and his reluctant cousin, Tomas (Rob Heaps). And since two groups of antagonists arent enough, theres also Iranian intelligence officer, Javad (Keon Alexander) to contend with. The Night Agent. Arienne Mandi as Noor in episode 204 of The Night Agent. Cr. Courtesy of Netflix ... [+] 2024COURTESY OF NETFLIXA great deal of the season actually takes place within the Iranian embassy, where we meet Noor (Arienne Mandi) an Iranian embassy employee who wants to help her family flee Iran, and goes to greatand dangerouslengths to make that happen. All these various characters and subplots converge in a high-stakes race against the clock, as a terrorist group seeks to carry out a deadly attack and exact terrible revenge.I found the season every bit as bingeable and entertaining as the first, even though there are plenty of little moments where you shake your head at just how implausible a lot of it is. Thats okay! When a show manages to be this much fun with this likeable a cast, you can forgive the little things. Even the bad guys are likable this time around, which is good because we spend quite a lot of time with them. The Night Agents second season isnt going to win any awards, but its a genuinely fun ride from start to finish, and Im already excited for Season 3.Let me know your thoughts on The Night Agent on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook. The best pound-for-pound fighter in the PFL and one of the top fighters in the world, Usman Nurmagomedov, climbs into the PFL SmartCage on Saturday, January 25, to defend his Bellator lightweight title against Paul Hughes in the main event of the PFL Road to Dubai Champions Series.Nurmagomedov (18-0) vs. Hughes (17-1) is being billed as Dagestan vs. Ireland, aiming to capitalize on the rivalry that Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov, Usmans cousin, started between the two countries. The Nurmagomedov-Hughes fight is especially interesting and important because the two lightweights are good enough to performand perhaps contendin the UFC. Hell face veteran Tim Johnson in a fight most expect Nemkov to win.Nemkov is on a shortlist of candidates to welcome Francis Ngannou back to mixed martial arts once the PFL Superfights heavyweight champion returns to the sport.Ngannou is expected to have another high-profile boxing match in his next combat sports outing, but he is also scheduled to fight once in MMA before the end of 2025.If Nemkov defeats Johnson and perhaps wins one more fight, hell have a good chance to be the man standing across from Ngannou. If Nemkov comes through the fight with Johnson victorious and unscathed, there is also a chance he could find himself in the upcoming PFL World Tournament. In addition to the fight card, expect to see more information about the promotions plans for 2025. Weve learned they are ditching the season format for a tournament, which will be separate from their traditional, lineal-style championship belts. We also know the tournament winners will come from eight divisions and will earn $500,000 apiece, as opposed to the $1 million awarded to the winners of the season format.Stay tuned for more information, perhaps to be revealed in Dubai.

  • A 59-year-old who can hold a plank for 4.5 hours and do 1,575 push-ups shares 3 tips for getting fit at any age
    www.businessinsider.com
DonnaJean Wilde, 59, holds the world records for the longest plank and most push-ups by a woman. She can plank for 4.5 hours and do 1,575 push-ups in an hour. She shared tips on how to get and stay strong at any age.DonnaJean Wilde started planking in the early 2010s, when her children started doing it in random locations as part of a viral craze. At the time, her wrist was in a cast so she couldn't run and strength train as she normally would but she could plank on her forearms.Wilde, a teacher, started planking for longer and longer amounts of time each day, and by 2020 she was able to plank for hours, planning lessons and reading for her master's degree while horizontal. Now retired at age 59, she holds two world records one for the longest time spent in an abdominal plank position by a woman (four hours, 30 minutes, and 11 seconds), and one for most push-ups (1,575) in one hour by a woman. Wilde can plank for hours at a time and can do over 1,500 push-ups in an hour. DonnaJean Wilde Wilde's feats aren't just impressive, they require strength and could be helping her to age healthily. People typically lose muscle mass as they age, but strength training can help to maintain it and is linked to living longer. A 2022 meta-analysis published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that strength training for an hour a week appeared to lower the risk of dying from any cause by 27%. Resistance training helps to regulate blood pressure and insulin sensitivity, improve lean muscle mass and strength, and reduce belly fat, the authors said. Wilde did 1,575 push-ups in an hour during her Guinness World Record attempt. DonnaJean Wilde After she signed up to attempt to break the world record for longest plank, she started training by doing hundreds of push-ups a day and then decided that would be her next challenge."I realized I loved push-ups, too. So, I increased to about a thousand push-ups a day, and tried to shorten the amount of time it took me to do it," she said. "By the official attempt, I had already broken the push-up record at home a few times."While most of us won't be spending hours planking or doing push-ups, Wilde shared what has helped her to stay fit.Find an activity you love"Just go with whatever it is that makes you feel good, and just start," Wilde said, because loving the exercise you choose to do is key to maintaining it as a habit."I still plank because I love it. Whenever I have texts or emails to reply to or something to read, I just go on the floor wherever I am and just plank," she said. While it's important to do a mix of cardio and strength training, Nathan K. LeBrasseur, a physiologist and healthy aging researcher previously told Business Insider the best exercise is what you can stick to. Wilde has 5 children and 12 grandchildren who all came out to support her during her Guinness-World-Record-winning plank. DonnaJean Wilde/Guinness World Records Start small, taking one step at a timeIt took Wilde a decade to build up to planking for hours."Little by little, it becomes a lot it's just that compounding effect. It's called 'aggregation of marginal gains,'" she said, referring to the idea that making small changes can add up to significant progress in whatever you do.But in order to make those gains, you have to "just start," she said.Experts concur: Sohee Lee, a personal trainer, previously told BI that the best way to get fit is to ease yourself in with lighter workouts so that you aren't deterred from continuing.Think about the benefits"I love the way planking makes me feel," Wilde said. "It helps me to stand up straight, and it just helps me feel strong. And I never have any back pain, which I attribute to planking and push-ups."She said it also helps her keep up with her grandkids every day and stay mentally healthy.Exercising has benefits ranging from reducing your risk of dying from cancer or heart disease, as well as improving your brain function and memory.

  • Ukraine's French-trained brigade was meant to be a flagship project. Now its ex-commander is on bail for $2.1 million.
    www.businessinsider.com
The ex-commander of the 155th Mechanized Brigade has been arrested, with bail set at $2.1 million.Col. Dmytro Ryumshin led the "Anne of Kyiv" brigade until stepping down abruptly in December. The unit was hyped as French-trained but has faced reports of mass desertion before deploying.A court in Kyiv has set bail for Col. Dmytro Ryumshin, the recently replaced commander of Ukraine's 155th Mechanized Brigade, at $2.1 million. His lawyer, Bohdan Zabara, told Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne of the court's decision on Wednesday. It comes as Ukraine probes a series of scandals that have marred the combat debut of the 155th a new brigade partially trained in France and equipped with modern French weaponry.Nicknamed "Anne of Kyiv" after an 11th-century Kyiv princess who became a French queen, it was touted as a way for Europe to directly strengthen Ukraine's starved manpower. But the brigade's reputation soured at home as local journalists reported that it continually suffered from mass desertion and was being picked apart to reinforce other units. One reporter, Yuriy Butusov, estimated that 1,700 men had gone AWOL before the 155th was sent into battle, including about 50 men who deserted in France.Ryumshin oversaw the 155th as it prepared to deploy on the front lines, but suddenly announced his resignation in early December.Federal investigatorsarrestedhim on Monday, accusing him of the "systematic concealment" of desertion among his troops. The State Bureau of Investigation said Ryumshin received both verbal and written reports of discipline issues, but had neither notified higher authorities nor acted upon this information."Due to the commander's actions, law enforcement officers were unable to initiate the legal procedure to search for and return servicemen to their military unit and reserve battalions, or in some cases, ensure that they served their sentences for the crimes they committed," the investigators said.Ryumshin's lawyer, Zabara, told Suspilne that the colonel would contest the bail amount set by authorities in Kyiv. Should he fail to meet bail, he must serve 60 days in detention before his closed-door hearing.Zabara did not respond to a comment request sent outside regular business hours by Business Insider.Meanwhile, the 155th's social media accounts show that its men are now fighting around Pokrovsk, where Russia has been pushing slowly but relentlessly to capture the key strategic city. The brigade is equipped with 18 AMX 10 armored vehicles, 18 truck-mounted Caesar howitzers, and 128 armored troop carriers. It enjoyed a relatively high profile while training in France, with French President Emmanuel Macron meeting its troops during an October visit. And it looks like Europe isn't done with these joint training programs. The European Union has allocated $425 million to training more Ukrainian soldiers until the end of 2026, including 15,000 by the winter of 2025.But at home, the 155th's reputation is still shaky. Some fighters and analysts in Ukraine believe it was a mistake for Kyiv to make brand-new brigades like the 155th instead of replenishing older, more experienced units that were already fighting.Serhii Sternenko, a well-known Ukrainian lawyer who provides crowdfunded drones to military units, said his organization was assisting the 155th because the brigade lacked officially provided drones and jammers."Why create a new brigade when existing brigades are critically understaffed, only to later divide it and transfer personnel to the old brigades? What's the point?" he wrote in early January on his Telegram channel. As the 155th geared up to enter the fray, its men were also often siphoned off by other brigades in desperate need, leaving the French-trained force to haphazardly reassign its troops to positions they didn't train for.Sergey Filimonov, commander of Ukraine's 108th Battalion, wrote on January 10 that he knew of about "10 such brigades operating under these conditions."He added that Western training methods, while provided by NATO troops, "often fail to align with the realities of modern warfare" in Ukraine."The realities of modern warfare show that foreign training, unless adapted to Ukrainian conditions and integrated with unit practices, is not only ineffective but dangerous," he wrote in an opinion piece published by Ukrainska Pravda.Ukrainian leaders appear to be listening. Butusov, the journalist who broke the news about desertion in the 155th, reported on January 12 that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had ordered for all freshly mobilized troops to be sent to existing brigades instead of being assigned to newly formed units. The Ukrainian and French defense ministries did not respond to comment requests sent outside regular business hours by BI.

The new theatre is a pivotal element of the broader redevelopment project for Via Milano, titled "Oltre la strada." This initiative seeks to transform the industrial identity of the area, establishing the theatre as a landmark in a zone undergoing significant revitalization, enriched by numerous enhancement projects. Set back from the street line, the architecture creates a "civic churchyard" paved with granite and a tree-lined plaza on its eastern side, adjacent to the existing residential area. The plaza is distinguished by ventilation chimneys and the mirrored volume of the plant room to the south. Redefining the surrounding public space is as crucial as the architecture itself in enhancing the area's value.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Designed as "civic architecture," the theatre acts as a cultural condenser. The building is a parallelepiped volume defined by large-scale rusticated concrete and aluminum loggia carved into the north facade facing Via Milano, where the main entrance is located. The cyclopean wall is made entirely with a prefabricated system of large rusticated concrete blocks measuring 4x1.25 m. A continuous glass wall visually connects the foyer to the plaza, emphasizing the theatre's openness to the city.Save this picture!Save this picture! The volume rises into the fly tower at the stage level, with its long sides clad in translucent polycarbonate panels that glow at night when illuminated from within. The theatre functions as an inclusive urban space, hosting rooms for different age groups, communal areas, a bar foyer opening onto the new plaza, and a large hall with a stage connected to dressing rooms and storage areas. Interior materials include wood for the acoustic wall panels, contrasting with dark grey plaster and resin floors in the halls. Communal spaces feature a combination of light grey, wood, and aluminum, the latter used for staircases, railings, and reception counters, giving the space its distinctive character. An "orange path" leads from the foyer to the children's room, marking this special area.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The theatre comprises two performance halls, both accessible from the first floor. The main hall, seating 312 spectators, features three aislesone central and two lateralconnected to emergency exits. The children's hall, on the other hand, accommodates 169 seats. Its wooden floor extends seamlessly to the stage, providing an informal seating area, and the hall lacks a fly tower, reflecting its simpler, more intimate design. The top four floors are wood-framed, giving the steel-framed structure the appearance of a wooden box atop an office building. The lower and upper floors are commercial, while the middle floors house offices and tenants. The basement is reinforced concrete, the first eight floors are steel-framed, and the upper four floors are wooden. Cedarwood from Tama, Tokyo, was used for the exterior and interior finishes.Save this picture!Completed in 2023 and inaugurated in May 2024, the Ginza Takagi Building became Japan's tallest wooden skyscraper at 56 meters, surpassing the 55-meter pagoda of Toji Temple after 380 years. While Japan has a history of wooden high-rise structures, their modern use has been minimal, making this project a significant step forward. Japan is entering an era of high-rise urban wood construction. The Ginza Takagi Building is a precursor to upcoming projects, including Mitsui Fudosan's Nihonbashi office building (84m, 2026) and Tokio Marine Group's headquarters (100m, 2028). This milestone marks the rise of wood in Japan's urban landscape.Save this picture!Multidimensional use of the Edo period's traditional alleys, and rationality of using a partial wooden structure. The Ginza district retains the Edo-period layout of alleys and townhouses. This project replaces the Ariga Shashinkan building, once home to the "Candle" restaurant frequented by literary figures such as Yusanari Kawabata and Yukio Mishima. The choice of a wooden structure had been on our minds from the very beginning of the project to reconstruct this historic building. With the recent momentum for wooden structures and the use of domestic timber thanks to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we figured that if we could realize a wooden building in the world-famous Ginza district, we could make a pioneering statement in the Japanese cityscape.Save this picture!Initially, a fully wooden building was considered but was impractical due to fireproofing, structural, and cost challenges. The solution was a mixed structure with wooden upper floors, providing one-hour fireproof capacity while maximizing efficiency. The design also incorporates traditional Ginza alley-like elements with open spaces on the upper floors.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Fire-Resistant Wooden Structure Design The four layers of the wood structure section consist of a continuous rigid, wooden-frame structure facing the street. The columns and beams are made of COOL WOOD by Shelter. The structure consists of two reinforced gypsum boards (21 millimeters thick) as cladding material on the surface of the load-bearing members, and 20 mm thick wood as surface finish material. The structure is certified as one-hour fireproof.Save this picture! The important part of the construction of a wooden fireproof building is the joints of the wooden fireproof structure. In principle, wooden fire-resistant members with a flame retardant layer should be installed in such a way that the cladding material is continuous. Therefore, drift-pin joints with insert-type steel plates were used. This mixed wood structure can be designed without using the approved construction method issued by general contractors.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The fact that a mid to high-rise mixed wooden structure does not require a structural evaluation is considered to be a major advantage. It can also be adapted to the many small and medium-sized multi-tenant buildings that make up the urban landscape of Japanese cities. Construction generalization is one of the themes of this project, and we hope that it will serve as a good example for many building professionals to actively adopt mixed wood constructions for mid-rise and high-rise buildings.Save this picture!Woodenizing the Urban Landscape The Ginza Takagi Building demonstrates how "conventional wooden buildings" can transform urban areas. Using regional materials, it bridges traditional and modern design while supporting sustainability and revitalizing local forestry.Save this picture!Japan's forests remain underutilized, with only 0.53% of their volume used annually. Urban wood construction is essential to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This project used 110m of local timber, storing 65 tons of CO and reducing emissions from processing and transport. As a pioneering structure, the Ginza Takagi Building not only redefines Japan's urban skyline but also lays the groundwork for future innovations in sustainable architecture, linking the city and the forest.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:Ginza, Tokyo, JapanLocation to be used only as a reference.
