Sonos is reportedly getting close to launching a product in a new category: a premium streaming box, set to rival options from Apple and Roku.The Verge reports the streaming video player will offer surround sound that works with its other speakers and also act as an HDMI switch to pair with other hardware, such as gaming consoles. It's expected to have an interface that pulls from various services, including Netflix, Max and Disney Plus, and can be controlled by both voice and a physical remote.The device, which has been rumored for awhile and is said to be codenamed Pinewood, is expected to be costly, ranging between $200 and $400. In contrast, an Apple TV 4K with Wi-Fi is priced at $129, while the Roku Ultra is $79."The $200-$400 price tag is not unheard of for Sonos -- the company's audio-only Port streamer costs $449," said CNET's home entertainment expert Ty Pendlebury. "Yet, the price is still quite high for a streamer -- even Nvidia's enthusiast-level device, theShield TV Pro, tops out at $200. Meanwhile, at the high end, video servers likeKaleidescapecost many thousands."The video player, said to be black and about the thickness of a deck of cards, comes at a time when Sonos is trying to regain footing after a problematic relaunch of its app, which was prone to bugs and didn't include features needed to control devices. On an earnings call last year, Sonos stated that it planned to launch new products by the end of 2024, but delays arose due to challenges with its app overhaul. The office had about eight people assigned to it. Web pages devoted to the climate office remained active for a few days after the executive order was signed, but nearly all of them are now offline.Similar moves sparked outcry from public health officials earlier this week, when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention removed materials from its website about preventing sexually transmitted diseases and providing gender-affirming care. And that's without considering the juggernaut release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is still officially arriving this "autumn" despite persistent rumours of a potential delay - a release window other publishers appear reluctant to commit to until Rockstar makes its plans known.So there's fierce competition for eyeballs and wallets ahead - something Wilson acknowledged in a response to an investor question regarding the new Battlefield's launch window in its latest financial call. "I do believe that this year might be a nuanced year relative to competition," he admitted. "There may be some things happening in the year that may cause us to think differently about our launch timing."Grand Theft Auto 6 is the biggest game in a massive year for releases.Watch on YouTubeWilson also noted EA has "invested more in this Battlefield than any Battlefield before... We're looking for this to be the biggest Battlefield we've ever made." As such, the publisher "[wants] to make sure that we launch that into a window where we can deliver on the fullness of the promise of what Battlefield can be and grow the community to a level that is commensurate with the size of the game that we're making."And while the publisher believes its new Battlefield "will be great and ready" for release in Financial Year 26, Wilson admitted, "If we got close to that timeframe and believed that this wasn't going to be a great window for us, then we would take a look at what an alternate window might be that would give us the appropriate time, energy, and player acquisition opportunity for this Battlefield to be all that it needed to be."EA has, of course, been investing heavily in its new Battlefield instalment, with a huge group of developers spanning four of its teams - DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion - now working on the game. Lawmakers are also concerned that Musk, an unelected citizen, wields too much power within the U.S. government and states blatantly on his social media platform that DOGE will shut down payments to organizations.DOGE, a Trump administration task force assigned to find ways to fire federal workers, cut programs and slash federal regulations, has raised concerns about its intentions and overruling of career officials at multiple agencies. Democratic lawmakers have voiced frustration over the lack of transparency and public accountability, saying that Musks people might illegally withhold payments to suit their political agenda.The Treasury official said that the ongoing review has not caused payments for obligations such as Social Security and Medicare to be delayed or re-routed. RELATED COVERAGE The letter said that Tom Krause, who is also listed online as the CEO of Cloud Software Group, was working at Treasury as a special government employee, which subjects him to less stringent rules on ethics and financial disclosures than other workers. The letter also said that Krause is conducting the effort in coordination with career treasury officials.Krause did not respond to an Associated Press phone call request for comment on his involvement with DOGE and the Treasury Department. Treasurys payments are managed by the Fiscal Service, which conducts over 1.2 billion transactions annually and accounts for 90% of federal disbursements. The official said the review is about payment integrity.However, some Democrats are not convinced about the notion that DOGE, Musk and Krause have read-only access. Some Republicans are trying to suggest that Musk only has viewing access to Treasurys highly sensitive payment system as if thats acceptable either, said Sen. Patty Murray, (D-Wash.), vice chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, in a statement. But why on earth should we believe that particularly when he is saying the exact opposite loudly and repeatedly for everyone to see?For instance, Musk has tweeted on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that DOGE has shut down payments to a Lutheran charity. The corruption and waste is being rooted out in real-time, Musk said on X, adding that DOGE is rapidly shutting down payments to the charity. At least one lawsuit has been filed, by a group of labor unions and advocates, seeking to stop Treasury from giving DOGE and Musk access to the payment systems. DOGEs access to the agencys payment systems came after Treasurys acting Deputy Secretary David Lebryk resigned from his position at Treasury after more than 30 years of service. The Washington Post on Friday reported that Lebryk resigned from his position after Musk and his DOGE organization requested access to sensitive Treasury data.The Fiscal Service performs some of the most vital functions in government, Lebryk said in a letter to Treasury employees. Our work may be unknown to most of the public, but that doesnt mean it isnt exceptionally important. I am grateful for having been able to work alongside some of the nations best and most talented operations staff.The letter to lawmakers was sent Tuesday afternoon, while hundreds of demonstrators appeared in front of U.S. Treasury, held signs, pounded drums and chanted slogans protesting the Treasury Departments decision to hand over access to sensitive payment systems to DOGE.People chanted Deport Musk, Down with Trump and Do your Job Congress! More than a dozen Democratic lawmakers spoke to the crowd.Elon musk is seizing power from the American people, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said. Hes here to seize power for himself, we are here to fight back.Maureen Jais-Mick, a Montgomery County resident showed up to the event to protest the blatant power grab by Musk and the DOGE committee.
