Nintendo Switch 2 will be $100 more expensive than original predicts analystMichael BeckwithPublished February 18, 2025 4:49pmUpdated February 18, 2025 4:50pm It certainly wont be cheaper (YouTube)Analysts seem to agree on the likely price of the Nintendo Switch 2 and while its an increase, it should be relatively manageable for UK fans. While the Nintendo Switch 2 wont normally be sold for the tens of thousands theyre currently going for on the black market, there are still concerns that itll be significantly more expensive than the current model. Especially with US president Donald Trumps tariffs threatening to bump console prices up even further. One Italian retailer has already listed Switch 2 pre-orders at 364.99 (about 307), but that was clearly a guesstimate on its part (a fairly generous one at that) and it has since bumped it up to 389.99 (about 324).Nintendo will likely avoid committing to a price for as long as it can, while it gauges the publics interest, but one analyst has predicted that it will settle on a price of $399.That price would make the Switch 2 $100 more expensive than its predecessor and about $50 more expensive than the OLED model, which Nintendo sells for $349.99 in the US.The prediction comes from analyst Joost van Dreunen and the latest edition of his Super Joost newsletter, where he discusses all the factors that will impact how Nintendo chooses to price its new console.Based on current market dynamics and platform positioning strategy, Nintendo is likely to price the Switch 2 at $399, writes van Dreuen, arguing that its an ideal balance between keeping the console affordable and accessible to the average customer (something Nintendo has already insisted is a priority) while underlying the fact that its a new console.Although a price rise it would keep it cheaper than other handheld devices on the market, such as the Asus ROG Ally X, which costs $800.So, what does this mean for the UK? A straight conversion would put the Switch 2s predicted price point at roughly 316, which is significantly more than the current Switchs asking price of 259.99.However, such conversions are never 1:1 and its unlikely Nintendo would bump the UK price up by only 56. A safer bet would be a price that falls halfway between the conversion and the US price, so somewhere around 350 to 360.The Switch OLED Model is 309.99 in the UK and if you apply the same 14% increase as in the US, that suggests a UK price for the Switch 2 of around 354 which is exactly the same ballpark as above.More TrendingWhile this is all just speculation, van Druen isnt the only one predicting a similar price. Last month, IGN quizzed several analysts about the Switch 2s potential price, with Dr Serkan Toto of Kantan Games and Circanas Matt Piscatella also predicting somewhere around the $400 range. As for the aforementioned tariffs, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa touched upon them during a press conference earlier this month. According to Reuters Japan (and translated by Nintendo Everything), Furukawa doesnt sound too concerned by the potential impact.Nintendo Switch is not only manufactured in China, but in places such as Vietnam and Cambodia as well, said Furukawa, referencing the stricter tariffs Trump has imposed against China. While we anticipate a certain impact, the influence on this years financial results is expected to be minimal. We will continue to observe the trends, and thoroughly consider how to respond. Will the games be more expensive too, though? • The BBC Has Denied Doctor Whos Latest Round of Cancellation Rumors
    gizmodo.com
Doctor Whohas faced many a cancellation rumor since before it came back from hiatus 20 years ago (and of course, plenty before that up to its eventual cancellation in 1989). But even then, the series has not quite faced such a big question mark over its future as it does right now, beholden as it is to a major production and distribution deal with Disneywhich is why the latest rumors about Doctor Whos future have warranted a response by the BBC. Last night British tabloid the Sun alleged that the BBC had made the decision to putDoctor Who on hiatus once again, for a period of anywhere between five and 10 years. The newspaper further alleged that Ncuti Gatwa has already filmed a regeneration sequence and was preparing to exit the series after the conclusion of the 2025 season in order to focus on other projects, with an inside source citing both low ratings for the 2024 season and accusations that the series was facing overwhelming backlash for featuring storylines that were getting too caught up on an agenda rather than telling a story as reasons for his departure. However, the BBC have now quickly pushed back on the report. This story is incorrect, a brief statement provided to Radio Times reads in part. Doctor Who has not been shelved. As we have previously stated, the decision on season 3 [season numbering for the series was reset for the third time with Gatwas debut season] will be made after season 2 airs. Live ratings for the 2024 season were down compared to both the 60th anniversary specials in 2023 and Doctor Whos prior heights in the pre-streaming, on-demand age, butshowrunner Russell T. Davies previously defended the series as having successfully realigned its audience to a more robust, younger audience. In coming back, I wanted to make it simpler and I wanted to make it younger, Davies told audiences at a BAFTA Q&A session last summer. Those two things are often not discussedyou read reactions to it and people are missing that. Its simpler and youngerand it is working. The under-16s and the 16-34 audience as well is massive. Its not doing that well in the ratings, but it is doing phenomenally well with the younger audience that we wanted. But the latest reports come off of the back of a series of acknowledgements by Davies himself thatDoctor Who currently does not have a concrete future laid out beyond the release of this years batch of episodes, as well as the upcoming spinoff series War Between Land and Sea. Writing in the January 2025 issue ofDoctor Who Magazine, Davies confirmed that not even a Christmas special for 2025 had been ordered yet, but remained optimistic about the shows futureas Disney also hasdespite no commitment to make more of the series actually being made yet, something the BBC further refused to comment on in its latest statement. The deal with Disney Plus was for 26 episodesand exactly half of those still have to transmit, the BBCs statement concluded. And as for the rest, we never comment on the Doctor and future storylines. Time will tell just what futureDoctor Who faces beyond 2025, but rumored or otherwise, were running out of time before a decision is going to need to be made:Doctor Whos return to both the BBC in the UK and Ireland, and Disney+ internationally, is expected to hit screens sometime this spring. • The Milky Ways Black Hole Is Producing a Brilliant Light Show
    gizmodo.com
By Isaac Schultz Published February 18, 2025 | Comments (0) | An artist's concept of Sagittarius A*, surrounded by a flaring disk of hot gas. Illustration: NASA, ESA, CSA, Ralf Crawford (STScI) The black hole at the center of our galaxy is experiencing a flurry of flares, ranging from flickers to brilliant eruptions, according to a team that analyzed data from recent observations by the Webb Space Telescope. The observations detailed the extreme environment in the immediate vicinity of Sagittarius A* (pronounced A-star), the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way. Sagittarius A* is about four million times the mass of the Sun, and its surrounded by a disk of material sucked towards the black hole by the objects inexorable gravity. According to a Northwestern University release, the recent observations are the longest and most detailed yet of the black hole. According to the teams recent studypublished today in The Astrophysical Journal Lettersthe black holes accretion disk is burbling with energetic flares, offering hints at how black holeswhich remain some of the most confounding objects in the universeaffect their immediate environments. Flares are expected to happen in essentially all supermassive black holes, but our black hole is unique, said Farhad Yusef-Zadeh, an astronomer at Northwestern and lead author of the study, in a university release. It is always bubbling with activity and never seems to reach a steady state. We observed the black hole multiple times throughout 2023 and 2024, and we noticed changes in every observation. Sagittarius A* flares at X-ray wavelengths from time to time, and more often in the infrared, making it a prime target for the Webb telescopes perceptive infrared gaze. The recent observations were made with the telescopes near-infrared camera, or NIRCam. The telescope observed Sagittarius A* for 48 hours in total, taken over a year. The team observed the black hole at different points in the year to understand how its flaring changed over time. The astronomers were surprised by the frequency of the black holes flaresfive to six large flares daily, with smaller flares interspersed between the larger flashes. Yusef-Zadeh said that the flashes are likely due to disruptions in the accretion disk that compress its superheated gas (plasma), causing bursts of radiation akin to the solar flares produced by our Sun.Of course, the processes are more dramatic because the environment around a black hole is much more energetic and much more extreme, Yusef-Zadeh said. But the suns surface also bubbles with activity. 2025 has started with a bang (apparently, a regular cadence of them). Last month, a different team of researchers detected mid-infrared flares from the black hole at its core for the first time. Those observations were taken with the Webb telescopes Mid-Infrared Instrument, or MIRI. Besides the obvious questions the data could addresshow our black hole interacts with the matter in its immediate environment, and how the flares it produces affect the accretion disk and beyondthe observations put another feather in Webbs cap. Charged with studying every period in cosmic history, Webbs gaze can see some of the universes earliest light, but it also can reveal new details about the objects in our own solar system, andas evinced herethe stuff at the center of our galaxy.Daily NewsletterYou May Also Like By Isaac Schultz Published February 13, 2025 By Isaac Schultz Published February 10, 2025 By Isaac Schultz Published February 8, 2025 By Isaac Schultz Published February 4, 2025 By Margherita Bassi Published January 23, 2025 By Margherita Bassi Published January 19, 2025

Need HelpThe main objective of the project was to create the first high-end co-working space in Wrocaw that combines functionality, elegance, and an artistic ambiance. The inspiration for the project came from the building itself, the former Faculty of Pharmacy of the Medical University, where the office is located. We drew inspiration from pharmaceutical glass as a material that reflects the history of the place, as well as wavy forms inspired by the nearby Odra River.Save this picture!Save this picture! One of the challenges of the project was designing unique glass installations using fused pharmaceutical glass and seamlessly integrating social and technical functions into the overall design.Save this picture! The project utilized advanced glass-curving technology and a custom-developed technique for connecting glass elements. Each circular installation component measures over 3 meters in diameter and consists of more than 50 glass elements. Additionally, we incorporated sand-colored steel for shelving and acoustic panels, which reference the building's neoclassical architecture.Save this picture!Save this picture! The central feature of the space is the open co-working area, dominated by artistic glass installations.
