• Hacker group releases updated tool to activate almost all modern Microsoft software
    www.techspot.com
WTF?! A hacking collective has released what some call the "largest breakthrough in Windows/Office piracy ever." The new method permanently activates most Microsoft products, bypassing Redmond's DRM system entirely. Yet, the company doesn't seem to care. Massgrave, an elusive team behind some of the most effective Windows and Office activation tools, has added a new weapon to its arsenal. The "TSforge Activation" method can permanently activate many Windows and Office versions. It can also provide users with a convenient way to access Windows 10 patches beyond October 2025.The hackers introduced their Microsoft Activation Scripts (MAS) project in 2024, claiming it would completely dismantle Microsoft's DRM protections. The newly released MAS 3.0 update adds the TSforge Activation method to the toolkit. It also includes patches and improvements for existing activation scripts.Massgrave claims that TSforge is one of the most powerful and far-reaching activation exploits ever added to MAS. In a recent blog post, the hackers detailed how they discovered and developed the exploit, offering an in-depth explanation of Microsoft's Windows activation protection system.Redmond refers to its modern DRM technology as the "Software Protection Platform" (SPP). This "highly complex" system consists of several components, with product activation information stored in two key files: the "physical store" (data.dat) and the "token store" (tokens.dat). TSforge exploits this system by injecting forged data into these stores, bypassing all checks and forcing SPP to recognize a fake product key or confirmation ID as valid. The TSforge activation method supports Windows 7 and later versions of the OS, including Windows Server (2008 R2 through 2025). It also works with Office 2013 to 2024, running on Windows 8 or newer. // Related StoriesUsers can activate various add-ons for commercial Windows licenses, including the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, available for some Windows 7 to 10 editions. Alternatively, they can extend Windows 10 updates through methods previously discovered for Windows 7.The Microsoft Activation Scripts (MAS) toolkit offers several methods for activating newer Windows and Office releases. Massgrave developers commend Microsoft, stating that the new SPP is a well-designed, advanced DRM system that significantly improves upon the "poorly designed" DRM of Windows XP.The group claims that the MAS toolkit is a popular open-source project hosted on GitHub, which Microsoft owns, so no piracy is technically involved. They describe it as an alternative activation method one that Microsoft support employees allegedly use when all other methods fail.

  • OpenAI's GPT-5 Is Coming: Here's What We Know So Far
    www.forbes.com
OpenAI's upcoming GPT-5 promises to revolutionize artificial intelligence by unifying advanced ... [+] reasoning capabilities with powerful language processing, potentially eliminating the need for separate AI models in business applicationsAdobe StockIf youre not a regular user, its easy to underappreciate just how far ChatGPT has evolved since its release two (and a bit) years ago.The original version was mind-blowing but very bare-boned compared to todays iteration. And with the worlds most powerful companies continuing to pour billions into generative AI, who knows what it will be like in another two years? As fun as it can be to speculate wildly, we recently got some hints about its future direction from Sam Altman, CEO of ChatGPT developer OpenAI.Sam dropped some heavy hints about what we will see next. This will include the most powerful model yet of the large language model (LLM) engine that powers ChatGPT, known as GPT-5.So, what can we expect as OpenAI pushes toward its goal of creating generalized AI? Lets look at what we know so far about what could be the next stage in the evolution of AI.Why Is GPT-5 Important? The speed of ChatGPTs evolution has been impressive. 2025-edition ChatGPT can browse the internet, see and understand the world around it, remember things, chat in a natural way, and carry out complex reasoning.Competitors have emerged - Googles Gemini, X/Twitters Grok, the open-source Claude, and, making headlines most recently, the ultra-efficient DeepSeek. However, by most metrics, the current-generation GPT-4o is still ahead of the pack when it comes to sheer performance and power. This means any news about GPT-5 is hugely exciting to anyone involved in AI.That news has been scarce so far, but in his post, Altman did say that the release of GPT-5 will represent the unification of the reasoning capabilities of the o (Omni) series models (such as GPT-4o) and the GPT models language capacity. This will allow it to generally be useful for a very wide range of tasks. Again, this hints that its a step towards the future goal of AGI.What Will GPT5 Do?The biggest clue we have so far about the actual capabilities of GPT-5 is that it will unify the reasoning capability GPT-4 introduced with its Omni models, with the language capabilities of the LLMs.Before we see it, there will be a final GPT-4 release, numbered GPT-4.5. This will be the the last non chain-of-thought model, indicating that reasoning/logic capabilities will be integral to and not an optional bolt-on, for future products. For me, this is probably the most exciting aspect of GPT-5 at the moment. Its what will make it far more than just a text generator, image interpreter or even question answerer. AI assistants with GPT-5s implied capabilities should also be able to predict, plan, problem-solve and analyze with much greater precision. It will think for longer, deeper and harder, meaning it will be useful in entirely new ways. These could include handling much more complex data analytics or simulating aspects of the natural world with increased accuracy.Combining language prediction, memory, and reasoning like this could open the door to much more sophisticated agentic behavior. It also means more responsible AI after all, being able to explain their reasoning is something that non-Omni GPT models are quite poor at!Another plus is that it could lead to significantly less hallucination cases of generative AI chatbots simply making things up. Hopefully, the logic and reasoning algorithms will help it to think about whether its responses are actually logical or reasonable. And one more advantage Altman hopes to gain through unification is improved user experience, commenting, We hate the model picker too. With o/Omni and all of the optional bolt-on features of GPT4 consolidated invisibly into GPT5, everything will feel simplified and streamlined.Put together, these advances could make OpenAIs platforms and, by extension, generative AI - a more attractive prospect for those who have so far held off adoption.Professionals will feel more safe putting their trust in its capabilities, and day-to-day users will find it becoming increasingly helpful with everyday tasks. Thats OpenAIs plan, at least! What About The Competition? We cant ignore the fact that a whole host of rival services have sprung up since OpenAI unleashed ChatGPT.Googles Gemini, Anthropics Claude and Microsofts CoPilot are probably its main competitors. More recently, DeepSeek, a Chinese registered company, entered the market. News that its model was far less costly to create than was previously thought necessary for a powerful LLM caused shock and a mini-crash in US tech stock prices. Then theres Grok 3, created by Elon Musk, who has claimed that his latest model will be the smartest AI on Earth. Some of those platforms are built on open-source software (although that term has sometimes been interpreted differently in AI circles), and Altman himself has seemingly conceded that this might put his company at an advantage. But two years after its release, ChatGPT powered by GPT-4 still stands out as the most fully featured, efficient and downright useful chatbot and LLM available to consumers.GPT-5 will have the task of continuing its legacy while paving the way for the next generation of AI tools. Anyone excited about where AI is taking us wont want to miss this one.

It now appears Shevchenko is on a collision course with No. 2 contender Manon Fiorot. That fight hasnt been signed, but it seems like the most obvious title fight to make, considering Shevchenko has already fought Grasso three times.Even with a win over Silva, Grasso would likely have more work to do if she hopes to get another shot at the flyweight titleif Shevchenko retains her title after her next fight. If Shevchenko is dethroned, there is a chance Grasso could step right into another title opportunity if she beats Silva. On the other hand, Silva has the chance to ascend into uncharted territory. A victory almost certainly puts her in the top three at 125 pounds and arguably one more win away from securing a title shot.Quite honestly, if she were to beat Grasso impressively enough, she might have an opportunity to put herself in position to be next in line after Fiorot. Theres also the possibility that current strawweight champion Zhang Weili could move up and challenge for the title.Shes fresh off a sparkling performance, easily defending her title against Tatiana Suarez at UFC 312 in Australia. Depending on when Zhang makes her move, youd expect shell get an immediate shot at the 125-pound title.Grasso vs. Silva is likely a main card fight at UFC 315, but its not going to be the main event, and it will almost certainly not be the co-main event. • South Korea Removes Deepseek from App Stores as It Fails to Comply with Data Protection Rules
    techreport.com
Key TakeawaysSouth Korea has paused new downloads of the Chinese AI app DeepSeek due to non-compliance with its data protection laws. Existing users can still access the app, but services will resume only after privacy concerns are addressed.Several countries, including Taiwan and Italy, have already banned DeepSeek over data security issues, fearing potential misuse by the Chinese government. The app recently gained massive popularity, surpassing ChatGPT in downloads, but its unclear data policies have led to increased scrutiny and regulatory actions worldwide. The data protection authorities of South Korea said that new downloads of the Chinese app DeepSeek will be paused for a while after the company acknowledges that it has failed to comply with personal data protection rules. The services will resume once changes are done to ensure compliance with the countrys privacy law. Until then, users who have already downloaded the app can continue using it without any restrictions.Last month, the Personal Information Protection Commission of South Korea sent a written request to Deepseek asking for details on how the company manages users personal data when several countries had already banned the app for security concerns.Deepseek appointed a team of legal representatives last week to handle the situation and agreed that it had partially neglected some considerations of South Koreas data protection law, agreeing to the temporary suspension of the platform until the concerns are resolved. The Chinese came into the limelight last month when it surpassed ChatGPT to become the most downloaded free app on App stores with its latest R1 model.Users were very impressed with the results provided by this AI, and the fact that it was created at a fraction of the cost of other AI apps shook the entire AI market and caused massive losses on the US stock market.Bringing the app back into line with local privacy will take a good amount of time as per the committee. Keeping the app live could significantly amplify risks to the safety of users which is why this step was considered fit by the parties involved. The committee has recommended that until the changes are done, current users practice caution when sharing personal information with DeepSeek.Other Countries Apprehension Towards AISouth Korea isnt the first country to raise security concerns about DeepSeek. Before this, several countries like Taiwan and Thailand and states like Texas had already banned Deepseek. After its quick rise to success, Deepseek suddenly saw a downfall as questions regarding its privacy policy and user data anonymity started to surface. Governments of several countries including Australia and Italy are completely barred from using this platform. When DeepSeek was requested for a statement on this topic, it remained silent. This further strengthened the notion that the Chinese government might have some degree of control over the company. In that case, there isnt much the company will be able to do to protect users data from being used by the government for unfair advantage over other countries.Following the bans, the Chinese government finally responded saying it has never and will never require enterprises or individuals to illegally collect and store data. However, how much of that sentence is true is a matter of discretion. Whether Deepseek will be able to overcome these concerns or follow TikToks path? Only time will tell.Add Techreport to Your Google News Feed Get the latest updates, trends, and insights delivered straight to your fingertips. Subscribe now! • Pixel 9a just leaked entirely, and its a better bargain than the iPhone SE 4
    www.digitaltrends.com
Googles Pixel A series has been a template for good affordable phones and has upheld this responsibility consistently and much better than the flagship Pixel phones since the Pixel 3as launch almost six years ago. This year, the Pixel 9a could bring some sizable upgrades to the last generation and a sleeker design without breaching the previously attractive price point. The latest leak uncovers the Pixel 9a fully and suggests it might be a more compelling purchase than the soon-to-launch iPhone SE 4.The Pixel 9a has been generously leaked by WinFuture, revealing the entirety of the upcoming budget phone. That includes digital renders at different angles and in all previously leaked colors.Recommended VideosStarting with the innards, the Pixel 9a runs off a Google Tensor G4 although expectedly a less powerful variant of the one we found on the Pixel 9 series that launched last year. Thats not much of a mystery either, but the report says we will get 8GB of RAM and two storage variants with 128GB or 256GB. For added security, Google bundles the Titan M2 co-processor, as it does with other Pixel devices.WinFutureIn terms of battery, the Pixel 9a could likely get a big boost with a new 5,100mAh pack thats about 13% bigger than the Pixel 8a. Like its previous generation, the Pixel 9a also gets wireless charging, while a boost is expected in terms of charging speeds when using a cable. Please enable Javascript to view this contentThe new design, the Pixel 9a also gets a smaller camera bay along with new sensors inside. The primary camera is now 48MP, down from 64MP last year. The sensor has also physically shrunk to a smaller 1/2-inch format, so Google might justify it with better processing, bolstered with AI. Meanwhile, the secondary and the front cameras are both 13MP, seemingly unchanged from the Pixel 8a.Outside, the Pixel 9a is suggested to move to a glass back along with a metal frame a reasonable upgrade from the plastic back from last years phone. The four new colors include an Iris purple, Obsidian black, Peony pink, and a Porcelain white. Besides the purple, all three colors have previously adorned the Pixel 9 series and appear to be of the same shade as before. The display is slightly bigger than before, at 6.3 inches diagonally, and has a 120Hz refresh rate along with an 1,800 nits of brightness and a peak value of 2,700 nits while outdoors or watching HDR10+ content, which the Pixel 9a is rated for.WinFutureTalking of communications, the Pixel 9a should get sub-6GHz 5G, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, and NFC. Theres apparently no mmWave 5G, which means connectivity might be limited compared to a more expensive device. The phone will come with Android 15 out of the box and offer seven years of software updates.Per the report, European prices start at 499 euros for the 128GB storage variant. In the U.S., we can expect the same $499 pricing as last year, despite the upgrades, though theres no concrete evidence to back that yet. With these features, the Pixel 9a sounds like a better bargain than the iPhone SE 4 that is expected to launch later today. Lets find out why.Leak-based iPhone SE 4 mockups. Majin BuThe Pixel 9a gets a better screen with a faster 120Hz refresh rate, an additional rear camera, and a battery thats almost 60% bigger than what is rumored for the iPhone SE 4. The iPhone SE 4s charging speeds could also be lower than the Pixels. While both phones are positioned at the bottom of their respective lineups, the Pixel 9as base storage starts at 128GB while adds a 256GB option; the iPhone SE 4 gets 64GB and 128GB only.Next, while looks are subjective, the iPhone SE 4 is slated to don the same external design as the iPhone 14 while the Pixel 9a gets a slightly modern look. The iPhone SE 4 could appeal better with its MagSafe support and a dedicated Action button similar to the more premium iPhones. But by other parameters, the Pixel 9a might be a better choice if you dont restrict yourself to one ecosystem. The only limitation with the Pixel is that it may not launch until next month, which could end to the impatience, especially if you were looking to buy a new phone and are surrounded by those who might immediately get the new SE.Editors Recommendations

  • Microsoft warns that the powerful XCSSET macOS malware is back with new tricks
    arstechnica.com
IT'S BA-ACK! Microsoft warns that the powerful XCSSET macOS malware is back with new tricks XCSSET has been targeting Mac users since 2020. Dan Goodin Feb 18, 2025 4:04 pm | 20 Credit: Getty Images Credit: Getty Images Story textSizeSmallStandardLargeWidth *StandardWideLinksStandardOrange* Subscribers only Learn moreMicrosoft said it has detected a new variant of XCSSET, a powerful macOS malware family that has targeted developers and users since at least 2020.The variant, which Microsoft reported Monday, marked the first publicly known update to the malware since 2022. The malware first came to light in 2020, when security firm Trend Micro said it had targeted app developers after spreading through a publicly available project the attacker wrote for Xcode, a developer tool Apple makes freely available. The malware gained immediate attention because it exploited what, at the time, were two zero-day vulnerabilities, a testament to the resourcefulness of the entity behind the attacks. In 2021, XCSSET surfaced again, first when it was used to backdoor developers devices and a few months later when researchers found it exploiting what at the time was a new zero-day.New enhanced featuresMicrosoft said it has detected the new variant in limited attacks so far. Improvements in it include:Two previously unseen persistence methods for ensuring compromised devices remain permanently infected. One new method creates a file named ~/.zshrc_aliases that contains the malicious payload. The new variant then appends a command in the ~/.zshrc file to ensure that the created file is launched every time a new shell session is initiated. The other new method creates a fake Launchpad app and replaces the legitimate Launchpad path entry with the path for the new one. From then on, the malicious payload is started each time Launchpad is started from the macOS dock.Enhanced infection methods. One method allows the attacker to choose options, including TARGET, RULE, or FORCED_STRATEGY, for when the XCSSET will trigger its payload. The other method involves placing the payload inside the TARGET_DEVICE_FAMILY key under build settings and running it at a latter phase, Microsoft said.Enhanced obfuscation methods, mainly in the form of a significantly more randomized approach for generating payloads to infect Xcode projects. The increased randomization makes spotting the malicious code much harder. The new XCSSET variant also Base64-encodes the module names it creates, again making detection of them more difficult. These enhanced features add to this malware familys previously known capabilities, like targeting digital wallets, collecting data from the Notes app, and exfiltrating system information and files, Microsoft wrote. XCSSET contains multiple modules for collecting and exfiltrating sensitive data from infected devices.Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Mac now detects the new XCSSET variant, and its likely other malware detection engines will soon, if not already. Unfortunately, Microsoft didnt release file hashes or other indicators of compromise that people can use to determine if they have been targeted. A Microsoft spokesperson said these indicators will be released in a future blog post.To avoid falling prey to new variants, Microsoft said developers should inspect all Xcode projects downloaded or cloned from repositories. The sharing of these projects is routine among developers. XCSSET exploits the trust developers have by spreading through malicious projects created by the attackers.Dan GoodinSenior Security EditorDan GoodinSenior Security Editor Dan Goodin is Senior Security Editor at Ars Technica, where he oversees coverage of malware, computer espionage, botnets, hardware hacking, encryption, and passwords. • Gwen Stacys Resurrection Just Got Even Weirder
    gizmodo.com
As we learned last week, in a most striking move writer Cavan Scott (Star Wars: The High Republic) and artist Stefano Nesi are bringing Gwen Stacy back from the grave. Yes, Peter Parkers Gwen Stacy, whose tragic death echoes through all of comic book-dom. However, the heartbreak lingering from that first neck-breaking moment to today gets a bit of a respite in the most unconventional way when Stacy comes back as a bloodthirsty killing machine with Deadpools Weapon X abilities. And from Marvels tease and release of variant covers were quite excited for the mayhem this will cause in the lives of not just Peter Parkers Spider-Man, but also the life of one Gwendolyne Poole, the original Gwenpool. Marvel Comics/Greg Land Marvel Comics/Paco Medina Marvel Comics/Chad Hardin Marvel Comics/Jeehyung Lee Thats right, this isnt a straight up character rebootnot if Gwenpool has anything to say about it. And were sure she will have something to say about it, as the self-aware Deadpool variant grapples with the doppelgnger hijinks. Gwendolyn Poole will be dealing with the ramifications of the Gwenpool mantle being used in two places at once, while also helping Peter with some emotional support in handling Stacys return. Its gonna be a lot and were here for the drama. Scott told Marvel about the release, What an absolute honor! To tear both Gwenpool AND Spider-Mans worlds apart? Yes please! Gwen Stacy is back from the grave and deadlier than ever. Weapon-X style abilities? Check. A line in killer put-downs? Youve got it. He continued to describe the bold storyline thats raising a lot of questions. This is NOT the Gwen you remember. But just who is behind her miraculous resurrection? And what has happened to the original Gwenpools usually careful existence? Add Kate Bishop and Jeff the Land Shark to the mix and you have the Marvel series of my dreams! The Spider-Verse is always expanding, and with this addition to the lore fans will get to experience Gwen Stacy in a haunting new way. Were curious if this is going too far; Marvel just wont let a lot of its characters stay dead, instead baiting fans to come back to a redux of a popular storyline with a different outcome. This arc definitely has been gaining viral buzz as questions abound about how exactly Stacy comes back. Get those first issue orders in: Gwenpool 1 drops May 14. Want more io9 news? • 2026s Summer Movie Season Is Already Wild, and 2025s Hasnt Even Happened Yet
    gizmodo.com
Were still a few months from the 2025 summer movie season but many of us already have our eyes on 2026. Thats because while Superman, Jurassic World, and the Fantastic Four are cool, theyre not as cool as the Avengers, Star Wars, Steven Spielberg, Spider-Man, and Christopher Nolan. Looking ahead, 2026 has the potential to be one of those summers we remember for the rest of our lives, but since its obviously still over a year out, things are still very much in flux. Case in point, hours after we got our first look at Matt Damon as the star of Christopher Nolans The Odyssey, we learned Steven Spielbergs untitled event film is changing release dates to give itself some breathing room from Disneys geeky giants, Avengers: Doomsday and The Mandalorian and Grogu. Spielbergs film, starring Josh OConnor and Emily Blunt and rumored to be sci-fi, was supposed to come out between those two titles on May 15, 2026, but now will be out June 12, 2026. As a result, the new film from Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar winners the Daniels, which was originally set for June 12, has been taken off the schedule, though thats still happening and will get a new date soon. So, as it stands, here are some of those 2026 summer highlights: Avengers: Doomsday May 1, 2026 The Mandalorian and Grogu May 22, 2026 Untitled Steven Spielberg Sci-Fi Event Movie June 12, 2026 Scary Movie 6 June 12, 2026 Toy Story 5 June 19, 2026 Supergirl: World of Tomorrow June 26, 2026 The Odyssey July 17, 2026 Spider-Man 4 July 24, 2026 Thats only a sampling too. Plus, of course, a few of these (Avengers, Spielberg, Spider-Man) havent even started filming yet, so things will absolutely change in the next year, while several other new, exciting projects are sure to join the party. But even just that list of films already, for our money, has 2025 beat. Do you agree? The 2025 summer movie season starts May 2 with the release of Marvel Studios Thunderbolts. Other highlights include James Gunns Superman, Gareth Edwards Jurassic World Rebirth, Marvel Studios The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning. See the full list here. Want more io9 news? The order contemplated the creation of a Botanical and River Park on the banks of the Paiva River with a support building capable of aggregating and dynamizing the park. The site, a wild and steep terrain populated by weed species, was already very popular for recreational activities, despite being used for dumping rubble More than designing a park, the aim was to restore dignity and natural beauty to the place. Before any action or constructive thought, and in search of the history of the place, the site was cleaned and the invasive species removed, revealing not only the native species, but also ruined walls, terraces and ruins of small buildings that showed the sites previous agricultural use.Save this picture! From this analysis, the concept for the intervention in the park was moulded: the use of natural materials and a building that rises at the convergence of paths and thematic areas. The natural materials selected were gravel for the paths and wood for the buildings. The circular wooden pole, which resembles the trunk of a tree, constitutes the elementary component that, in its combination, formalises all the structures within the park, from the building to the outdoor furniture. The choice of these natural materials was aimed at their transformation and appropriation by the forces of nature and time. The paths were associated with the different thematic areas. The ecotrail area extends along the municipal road and includes an alternative route for pedestrians and bicycles, connecting terrace and camping spaces. The river zone follows the river bank and has spaces for picnics, fishing, and a platform resulting from a restored wall that serves as a stage for shows and cultural activities. The botanical zone presents spaces for contemplation and discovery associated with the greater diversity of flora established in the park. At the convergence of the paths and thematic zones stands a building that, in a sculptural way, resembles a sawn-off trunk that has been made habitable. This building, with a circular plan, has three levels and concentrates all the parks support facilities. The sanitary facilities and the technical area are arranged on the lower level, on the intermediate level there is a bar that communicates with the outdoor terrace, and the upper level is crowned with an outdoor space for contemplating nature.Save this picture!Save this picture! The landscaping in the park exhibits a sample of the regional natural variety found from mountainous areas to river areas. The plays of light and shadow between the foliage of the trees, their hues and intensities, the wind that carries the aromas of flowers and fruits, the water that flows in the river, and all the palpable textures of these sensory combinations manifest themselves as the essential result of the intervention. The sustainability of the intervention is perceptible in the fundamental selection of the construction actions, in the respect for the morphology of the terrain, in the enhancement of pre-existing elements, in the selection of natural materials and in the preservation and enhancement of nature. In the end, this project ultimately reflects another attempt to ensure that architecture is not reduced to the constructive act, but rather the means to harmonise the artificial and the natural, so that from this intimacy manifest the sensory experiences and a renewed spirit of place.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessAbout this officePublished on February 19, 2025Cite: "Parque Botnico e Fluvial do Rio Paiva - Cinfes / Paradoxo Arquitectura" [Parque Botnico e Fluvial do Rio Paiva - Cinfes / Paradoxo Arquitectura] 19 Feb 2025.
