  • Tesla Cybertruck: all the news about Elon Musks futuristic pickup truck
    www.theverge.com
Heres everything you need to know about Teslas first pickup truck, which Elon Musk has called heart-stopping and his personal favorite of Teslas vehicles.Pickups have become more popular lately their share of the US light vehicle market increased to 17.5 percent in 2019, from just under 13 percent in 2012. Theyre also the fastest-growing auto segment in the US. That makes Teslas entry into pickups sensible, analysts say. Another pickup perk: pricing. Pickups tend to be expensive.Even with direct competition from established players (like Fords forthcoming electric F-150) and newcomers (like Rivian), there is a ton of money to be made in pickup trucks. But Tesla may distinguish itself from the rest of the market with its Blade Runner-inspired design. Musk has said that he wants to combine Porsche-level performance with utility that makes a Ford F-150 look like a Tonka truck.Today, 16 seconds agoAndrew J. HawkinsTikToker projects anti-Elon screeds on the back of Cybertrucks. After tracking down an unsuspecting Cybertruck stopped at a traffic light, the anonymous TikToker in a Jack Skeleton mask uses a projector mounted on their dash to display crude jokes about Musk on the trucks lift gate. Messages include The most recalled truck in 2024 and Musk, this truck is really like you... tons of hype, underwhelming in bed. Theres also plenty of Nazi imagery, after Musks infamous fascist salute at Trumps inauguration. Sure, it requires more technical skills than spraying Fuck Elon on a bunch of Teslas. But @cybertruck_hunters certainly wins points for ingenuity.Today, 4:00 PM UTCAndrew J. And like all other Tesla vehicles before it, the electric truck scored a 5-star rating in nearly all the individual categories. The categories include frontal and side crashes, as well as risk of rollover. To simulate a head-on collision, the Cybertruck was driven into a flat rigid barrier at 35 mph. For that, NHTSA awarded the truck a 5-star rating for drivers and a 4-star rating for passengers.Read Article >Jan 16Andrew J. • Apple Announces Its Latest Budget Phone, the iPhone 16e
    www.ign.com
On Wednesday morning, Apple pulled the wraps off the iPhone 16e, now the cheapest model in the company's current lineup. It essentially replaces the outdated 2022 iPhone SE as the "affordable" option, but it marks a shift away from the significant discount the older SE line was known for. The iPhone 16e starts at $599, narrowing the gap between it and the $799 iPhone 16 that came out last fall. It will be available for pre-order starting Friday, Feb. 21 with the street date following the next week on Friday, Feb. 28.The iPhone 16e is also the first phone to feature Apples C1 cellular modem. Apple has had a lot of success with its in-house chips, such as the M1 and up in its computers and the A-series chips in its mobile devices. The cellular modem is a critical but oft-overlooked element in phones, and if Apple hasnt stuck the landing on the C1, it could mean all sorts of connectivity issues. Hopefully Apple learned its lesson from the Antennagate scandal when iPhone 4 struggled with cell signal strength because of the design and placement of the antennas and ensured the iPhone 16es connectivity is up to snuff. iPhone 16eFrom the front, youd be hard pressed to tell this phone apart from the iPhone 14. The specifications of the display are identical, offering a 6.1-inch OLED with a 2532x11170 resolution panel and 1,200-nit peak brightness. This isnt as sharp or nearly as bright as the iPhone 16. The iPhone 16e does get the Action button and a USB-C port, though it misses out on the Camera Control. Around the back, the iPhone 16e is more distinct from its iPhone kin, as it has just a single camera, much like the iPhone SE before it. Its a 48MP sensor with a lot in common with the current iPhone 16s main camera, but Apple reserves a few elements for the higher-tier phone, like sensor-shift stabilization, the latest version of Photographic styles, and the ability to adjust focus in portrait mode. Meanwhile, the selfie camera appears to be identical and brings Face ID to the iPhone 16e. The phone is cased in aluminum, a glass back, and Apples Ceramic Shield on front. While Apple still suggests that this Ceramic Shield is tougher than any smartphone glass in its press release, its worth noting that Apple itself offers a newer blend of Ceramic Shield that claims to be two times tougher than any smartphone glass. That certainly raises some question about how tough the older Ceramic Shield on the iPhone 16e really is, especially when I saw plenty of wear and tear on the display when I reviewed the iPhone 16. The internals of the phone are an interesting demonstration of product stratification. There was already a gap between the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro in that the Pro models got an A18 Pro chip with faster speeds and more GPU cores. While the iPhone 16e is packing an A18 chip like the iPhone 16, its not quite the same. It has the same number of CPU cores, but it only gets a 4-core GPU, down from the iPhone 16s 5-core GPU. Given the iPhone 16s small performance deficit next to the iPhone 16 Pro, Id expect the iPhone 16e to take yet another step down. Still, with the Neural Engine intact on the iPhone 16e, it will be able to tap into the various Apple Intelligence features, for whatever thats worth.Naturally, there is some compromise for the iPhone 16e there had to be for it to land with a lower price than the other phones in Apples roster. All told, it doesnt seem overly compromised, but its also not carrying as much of a discount as the early iPhone SE models did. Coming in at $599 may make it Apples cheapest phone, but Apples last budget model, the 2022 iPhone SE, launched with a $429 price tag while carrying the same chip as the then $799 iPhone 13. Its design was very dated at the time, but there was no ignoring the nearly 50% discount it provided. This time, Apple is at least basing the iPhone 16e on a design thats just a couple years old, even if it's gotten minor tweaks every year since 2018. Well have to see how well the iPhone 16e actually performs. But with the Android market already offering some compelling iPhone alternatives around $600, like the OnePlus 13R, Apple may have a hard time courting buyers who arent already locked into the Apple ecosystem. • Apple may have just solved my biggest iPhone 17 Air worry
    9to5mac.com
Apples latest product, the iPhone 16e, has a lot going for it. But for me personally, its not the new model Im most excited about. This falls iPhone 17 Air wins that prize, and one key detail of todays launch has alleviated my biggest concern about that device: battery life.Ultra-thin design can be both a strength and weaknessThis fall, Apple is expected to launch four new iPhones once again. The lineup will look like this:iPhone 17iPhone 17 AiriPhone 17 ProiPhone 17 Pro MaxLargely this is what weve come to expectwith one exception.Replacing the Plus model is the new iPhone 17 Air.This brand new device will have a radically ultra-thin design that prioritizes form over function. Its expected to measure just 5.5mm thickby far the thinnest iPhone ever made. For users who typically opt for Pro models, the 17 Air will come with its share of compromises. It will only have one rear camera rather than three, for example, and include the standard A19 chip rather than the A19 Pro.However, my personal biggest concern about the 17 Air has been battery life.Battery on Apples flagship models, especially the Pro and Pro Max, has gotten especially good lately. Its finally at the point where I dont ever need to think about the battery. But on this point, the iPhone 17 Airs chief strengthan ultra-thin designcould also prove its greatest weakness.Or at least, thats what I thought until today.Apples C1 modem solves my iPhone 17 Air battery anxietyApples announcement of the iPhone 16e shows that, philosophically at least, it holds a lot in common with iPhone SE models of the past. Meaning, it includes a lot of tech first seen in other iPhones. One cutting edge innovation, however, is Apples new C1 modem. This Apple-designed 5G modem has been years in the making. Rumors have been widespread about the new modems inclusion in the iPhone 16e, but we didnt yet know what kind of benefits it would provide.Heres Apples press release (emphasis added):C1 is the first modem designed by Apple and the most power-efficient modem ever on an iPhone, delivering fast and reliable 5G cellular connectivity. Apple silicon including C1 the all-new internal design, and the advanced power management of iOS 18 all contribute to extraordinary battery life.C1 truly does seem to provide significant boosts to battery life.In fact, thanks to C1 the iPhone 16e gets even better battery life than the more expensive iPhone 16. Its the only significant area the new model bests its sibling. And according to numerous reports, the C1 modem is coming to just one other iPhone model this year: the iPhone 17 Air.Putting C1 in the 17 Air is undoubtedly how Apple plans to offset some of the battery losses that will come with its ultra-thin design.I dont expect the iPhone 17 Air to match the Pro models in battery performance, but if it can roughly equal the standard iPhone 17, that will be enough for me.Battery life is such a key feature for iPhone users, and now thanks to the C1 announcement, we know how Apple plans to ensure that its exciting iPhone 17 Air isnt hampered by lackluster battery. Are you concerned about the iPhone 17 Airs battery life?
