• DC Comics to Relaunch Batman With New #1 Issue and New Costume
    www.ign.com
2025 is definitely shaping up to be a huge year for DC's flagship Batman comic. Current writer Chip Zdarsky just ended his run with Batman #157, paving the way for Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's Hush 2 storyline in March. And once Hush 2 is over, DC will be relaunching Batman with a new #1 issue, new writer, and new costume. As revealed at the ComicsPro retailer event, the new volume of Batman will be written by Matt Fraction (Uncanny X-Men, The Invincible Iron Man). Current Batman artist Jorge Jimenez is remaining on board, though as mentioned, he and Fraction have designed a new costume and new Batmobile to ring in the new series. Batman is trading in the black and gray suit for a more vintage-inspired blue and gray costume. Check out the new Batsuit below:Art by Jorge Jimenez. (Image Credit: DC)I wouldnt be here if it wasnt for Batman. It was the first comic I ever read, said Fraction. Jorge and I have a very superhero-forward kind of take on Batman. Weve got a new Batmobile, weve got a new costume, weve got new characters, and weve got a lot of old ones toogood and bad; all the stuff that makes Batman the coolest character in comics. We want to celebrate it all.Batman #1 will be released in September 2025.Alongside the Batman news, DC also shed more light on the future of the Superman line at ComicsPro, as DC's "Summer of Superman" event continues. First, Supergirl is getting a new series and a new costume (designed by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau) of her own. Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will write and draw the new book, which brings Kara back to the city of Midvale.I came up in the comics industry doing mostly graphic novels that I wrote and drew myself, so doing the same with Supergirl feels like Im returning to my storytelling roots, said Campbell. My main touchstones to Kara Zor-El were the stories and the wild costumes from the 70s, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and The CW show, which I was a huge fan of. In creating this version of Supergirl, Ill be drawing on some of those influences as the series unfolds. Supergirl #1 will be released on May 14.Art by Stanley Lau (Image Credit: DC)Next, Action Comics is getting a new creative team, as Justice League Unlimited writer Mark Waid teams with Resonant artist Skylar Patridge. The series will shift focus to Clark Kent's teenage years in Smallville, exploring how he came to terms with his burgeoning powers as Superboy."I start the book with Clark as a 15-year-old boy, learning to be a superhero for the first time, said Waid. What is that like, learning to use your powers at that age? What kind of challenges are you facing? Skylar and I are also bringing Smallville a little more up to dateit still has that rustic feel to it, but farms dont look like that anymore."Waid and Patridge's run kicks off with Action Comics #1087 in June. Finally, DC has decreed that Krypto is A Very Good Boy and will be getting his own five-issue miniseries as part of the DC All In initiative. Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton is written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and drawn by Mike Norton (Revival). The series will explore Krypto's origin story in greater depth than ever before.Krypto's origin has always been done at kind of a high level," said North. "The little guy starts out on Krypton, ends up on Earth, and helps Superman fight crime. The chance to really define Kryptoto show what a little lost dog would go through if he landed all alone on a strange alien world named Earthwas really enticing. And I also fell in love with the idea of treating Krypto as the actual dog he is: he doesn't talk, and we don't cheat by reading his thoughts in balloons either. Mike Nortons art captures exactly what needs to be said in every scene.Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #1 will be released on June 18.PlayAlso at ComicsPro, we learned that Marvel is relaunching Captain America this summer, with Zdarsky writing and Valerio Schiti drawing the book. A British R&D unit thats been compared to DARPA is funding synthetic muscles, electronic skin, and mechanical hands for a robotics dexterity project. The Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) today unveiled the 10 teams selected for the programme. Their mission: usher in a new era of dexterity that will transform robotics and human productivity.Members of the group span startups, university labs, public research organisations, and large companies. Collectively, they will receive 52mn to advance the physical dexterity of robots. The funds aim to bridge the software-hardware gap in robotics, which has widened during the AI boom. The of EU techThe latest rumblings from the EU tech scene, a story from our wise ol' founder Boris, and some questionable AI art. It's free, every week, in your inbox. Sign up now!Robot bodies now lag behind advances in computation. Their failure to match the flexibility, speed, and precision of humans has severely restricted their use.Algorithms, meanwhile, are rapidly reaching new levels of intelligence. ARIA wants the hardware to catch up.The agency argues that theres a pressing need for progress. The proportion of the global population aged over 65 is set to triple by 2100. At the same time, labour shortages for physically demanding jobs are increasing. Robots could provide essential support. The robotics teamsMembers of the programme have proposed diverse solutions to the challenge.Arthur Robotics, a startup based in London, wants to commercialise an mechnical hand inspired by biology. Focused on manufacturing, the motorised limb blends soft, deformable contact surfaces with rich tactile sensing and reinforcement learning.A team led by Lorenzo Jamone, an associate professor in robotics and AI at University College London, will develop electronic skin. Based on magnetic technology, the skin aims to measure 3D contact forces at multiple points. It can also bend and stretch.Startups from outside the UK are also contributing. • Surging European defence stocks signal huge potential for military tech startups
    thenextweb.com
Shares in European aerospace and defence companies soared to record highs this week, elevating expectations for the continents military tech startups.Britains BAE Systems leapt by 9% on Monday, while Germanys Rheinmetall jumped by 14%. Stocks in Swedens Saab, Italys Leonardo, and Frances Thales also boomed. By the days end, the Stoxx Europe aerospace and defence index had hit an all-time peak.Military tech firmshave also been surging. Kate Leaman, chief market analyst at online broker AvaTrade, said these companies have huge potential for growth particularly those with AI-driven solutions. Were already seeing a shake-up in the defence sector, with AI-focused players like Palantir outperforming more traditional defence giants, Leaman told TNW. This suggests that cutting-edge, tech-centric firms could possibly capture a sizeable share of the market.Register NowEuropean defence tech startups have also grabbed investors attention. In 2024, they attracted a record $5bn in VC funding a 24% increase over the previous year. The momentum has raised expectations of future public listings. Many defence tech startups havent gone public yet, but with the market heating up and investor interest growing, theres a strong possibility well see more IPOs in the near future, Leaman said. That could open the door to fresh investment opportunities and raise the profile of these emerging companies. The push for defence techThe spending spree comes amid mounting concerns about Europes military sovereignty.Leaders across the continent have been shaken by the Russia-Ukraine war and tensions with the Trump administration.Ukraines President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has called for the creation of an army of Europe. His French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, has urged his allies to wake up and spend more on defence. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyenwants to trigger an emergency clause exempting military expenditures from the fiscal restraints on EU countries.A growing share of their budgets is going to military tech and startups are beginning to cash in.According to a new report from McKinsey, investment in European defence tech startups increased by over 500% between 2021 and 2024 compared to the previous three years. The report added, however, that the sector remains about five years behind the USs in terms of maturity.A major factor in this gap is the struggle to secure late-stage funding a common problem for European startups across industries.Nonetheless, the rise of defence tech is set to continue.Military spending is rapidly moving away from traditional hardware toward software, drones, and robotic solutions, Leaman said. As a result, defence tech companies specialising in these areas may enjoy increasing demand for their products and services.Defence tech is a key theme at this years Assembly, the invite-only policy track ofTNW Conference. • Heres how the iPhone 16e compares to iPhone 12, 13, and more
    9to5mac.com
Brought to you by Uniq:Check out the new rugged cases from Uniq including the glow in the dark Combat Active iPhone case featuring a textured grip for ultimate control and a reflective lanyard. And the Stride SE, a high-performance Apple Watch sports band built tough with durable FKM. Yesterday, Apple launched the new iPhone 16e, the cheapest new iPhone model in the lineup. It brings Apple Intelligence, Face ID, USB-C, the 48MP Fusion camera, and much more all down to a starting price of just $599.Obviously, the iPhone 16e is a noteworthy upgrade over the iPhone SE 3. However, theres an easy comparison to be made to previous generation entry-level iPhones, such as the iPhone 12, 13, 14 and even iPhone 15 for many great reasons. Well be diving into that here.iPhone 12 vs iPhone 16eiPhone 12 was the first iPhone redesign since the iPhone X, introducing the boxy design language that lives on in the iPhone lineup to this day. It was the first iPhone with 5G, using a somewhat-inefficient early generation Qualcomm 5G modem. On the other hand, iPhone 16e uses Apples first in-house 5G modem, with large power efficiency gains.Between USB-C, the smaller notch, Apple Intelligence, and the larger camera sensor iPhone 16e is nearly a no-brainer upgrade.iPhone 12iPhone 16eDisplay6.1 OLED w/ larger notch 625 nits of brightness6.1 OLED w/ smaller notch 800 nits of brightnessCameraWide: 12MPUltrawide: 12MPWide: 48MPUltrawide: N/AProcessorApple A14: 6 core CPU 4 core GPU 16 core Neural EngineApple A18: 6 core CPU 4 core GPU 16 core Neural EngineChargingLightning up to 20WMagSafe up to 15WUSB-C up to 20WQi charging up to 7.5WApple IntelligenceNo supportFully supportedConnectivity Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.0 Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.3 Sub-6GHz 5GBattery 17 hours of video playback26 hours of video playbackAdditional features Ring/mute switch Emergency SOS N/A N/A Action Button Emergency SOS via Satellite Crash Detection Photographic StylesiPhone 13 vs iPhone 16eTheres a number of noteworthy upgrades with the iPhone 16e over 2021s iPhone 13. For the most part, this is a universal improvement, other than the fact that youll be losing out on an ultrawide camera on the rear. However, since the iPhone 16e features the 48MP camera sensor from iPhone 15, youll be able to take photos with 2x zoom and still receive optical quality, something that the iPhone 13 cannot do.iPhone 13iPhone 16eDisplay6.1 OLED w/ smaller notch 800 nits of brightness6.1 OLED w/ smaller notch 800 nits of brightnessCameraWide: 12MPUltrawide: 12MPWide: 48MPUltrawide: N/AProcessorApple A15: 6 core CPU 4 core GPU 16 core Neural EngineApple A18: 6 core CPU 4 core GPU 16 core Neural EngineChargingLightning up to 20WMagSafe up to 15WUSB-C up to 20WQi charging up to 7.5WApple IntelligenceNo supportFully supportedConnectivity Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.0 Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.3 Sub-6GHz 5GBattery 19 hours of video playback26 hours of video playbackAdditional features Ring/mute switch Emergency SOS N/A Photographic Styles Action Button Emergency SOS via Satellite Crash Detection Photographic StylesiPhone 14 vs iPhone 16eGiven the similarities between iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, there arent too many notable differences to point out here, but heres a full breakdown:iPhone 14iPhone 16eDisplay6.1 OLED w/ smaller notch 800 nits of brightness6.1 OLED w/ smaller notch 800 nits of brightnessCameraWide: 12MPUltrawide: 12MPWide: 48MPUltrawide: N/AProcessorApple A15: 6 core CPU 5 core GPU 16 core Neural EngineApple A18: 6 core CPU 4 core GPU 16 core Neural EngineChargingLightning up to 20WMagSafe up to 15WUSB-C up to 20WQi charging up to 7.5WApple IntelligenceNo supportFully supportedConnectivity Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.3 Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.3 Sub-6GHz 5GBattery 20 hours of video playback26 hours of video playbackAdditional features Ring/mute switch Emergency SOS via Satellite Crash Detection Photographic Style Action Button Emergency SOS via Satellite Crash Detection Photographic StylesiPhone 15 vs iPhone 16eiPhone 15 was a notable upgrade over iPhone 14, bringing USB-C and Dynamic Island to Apples entry-level iPhone. It also brought over the upgraded 48MP wide angle lens from iPhone 14 Pro, which the iPhone 16e also takes advantage of.iPhone 15iPhone 16eDisplay6.1 OLED w/ Dynamic Island 1000 nits of brightness6.1 OLED w/ smaller notch 800 nits of brightnessCameraWide: 48MPUltrawide: 12MPWide: 48MPUltrawide: N/AProcessorApple A16: 6 core CPU 5 core GPU 16 core Neural EngineApple A18: 6 core CPU 4 core GPU 16 core Neural EngineChargingUSB-C up to 20WMagSafe up to 15WUSB-C up to 20WQi charging up to 7.5WApple IntelligenceNo supportFully supportedConnectivity Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.3 Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.3 Sub-6GHz 5GBattery 20 hours of video playback26 hours of video playbackAdditional features Ring/mute switch Emergency SOS via Satellite Crash Detection Photographic Style Action Button Emergency SOS via Satellite Crash Detection Photographic StylesWrap upEssentially, the common theme here is that iPhone 16e will be an overall upgrade from any iPhone older than the latest-generation iPhone 16 presuming you dont mind the lack of official MagSafe support. You gain USB-C, support for Apple Intelligence, as well as a suite of other upgrades, primarily at the cost of an ultra-wide lens. The main exception to this rule is the iPhone 15, where youll also be losing the Dynamic Island. Regardless of what iPhone youre coming from, youll also gain the best battery life in any 6.1-inch iPhone.Brought to you by Uniq:Check out the new rugged cases from Uniq including the glow in the dark Combat Active iPhone case featuring a textured grip for ultimate control and a reflective lanyard. TheDynamic Islandfeature is also limited to the pricier model. The devices each have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.Appledrops the home buttonon its new budget phone in favor of Face ID, just like the iPhone 16. Both devices also have a USB-C port, and neither has a headphone jack. The iPhone 16E comes in black and white, while the iPhone 16 comes in black, white, pink, teal and ultramarine.Battery and storage The iPhone 16E has Apple's C1 modem, which Apple says is the most efficient modem in an iPhone, and this should help lengthen battery life. Apple/Screenshot by Jeff Carlson/CNETBoth the iPhone 16E and 16 come in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB options. Apple boasts that the 16E can get up to 26 hours of video playback and 21 hours of streamed video playback, while the 16 will last for up to 22 hours of video playback and 18 hours of streamed video playback. One of the reasons behind the cheaper iPhone's longer battery life is because it runs on Apple's very first 5G modem, called C1. The company says its C1 modem is the "most power-efficient modem ever in an iPhone" and as a result helps increase the phone's battery life. They each support 20-watt wired charging. The iPhone 16E supports 7.5W Qi wireless charging, while the iPhone 16 is capable of 15W Qi2 charging, as well as MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W with a 30W adapter or higher.Cameras at a glance The iPhone 16E is the only phone Apple sells with a single rear camera. Apple/Screenshot by Jeff Carlson/CNETYou'll find a 48-megapixel wide camera on both the iPhone 16E and iPhone 16, as well as a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera on the 16. Both phones have a 12-megapixel front-facing camera. You can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second on each device. On the iPhone 16, you can shoot 1080p spatial video, but only at 30 frames per second.Apple Intelligence for all The iPhone 16E has the same Apple Intelligence features as the iPhone 16. AppleOne of the biggest upgrades to Apple's lower-priced iPhone is theinclusion of Apple Intelligence, which was previously confined toiPhone 15 Pro models and theiPhone 16 lineup. Now you can spend less and still get access to features like a smarter Siri, writing tools and theClean Up tool in photos. This move signals Apple's eagerness to get its AI suite into more people's hands, and indicates that AI is now a core component of any iPhone, from the cheapest option to the most premium.Check out the spec chart below for more details on each phone.Apple iPhone 16E vs iPhone 16 Apple iPhone 16EApple iPhone 16Display size, tech, resolution, refresh rate 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display; 2,532x1,170 pixels; 60Hz refresh rate6.1-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display; 2,556x1,179 pixels; 60Hz refresh ratePixel density 460ppi460ppiDimensions (inches) 5.78x2.82x0.315.81x2.82x0.31Dimensions (millimeters) 146.7x71.5x7.8147.6x71.6x7.8Weight 167 grams (5.88 ounces)170 grams (6 ounces)Mobile software iOS 18iOS 18Camera 48 megapixel (wide)48 megapixel (wide), 12 megapixel (ultrawide)Front-facing camera 12 megapixel12 megapixelVideo capture 4K at 60fps4K at 60fps; spatial video at 1080p at 30fpsProcessor A18A18RAM/storage 128GB, 256GB, 512GB128GB, 256GB, 512GBExpandable storage NoNoBattery Up to 26 hours video playback, 21 hours streamed video playback, 90 hours of audio playback. 20-watt wired charging, 7.5-watt Qi wireless chargingUp to 22 hours video playback; up to 18 hours video playback (streamed). 20-watt wired charging. • Tesla Sales Are Tanking Across The World
    insideevs.com
Bitcoin, emissions credits and promises about artificial intelligence can only do so much. Like it or not, Tesla is still a car company. And Tesla's sales are not off to a great start in 2025.In recent days, full-year and January sales results from various markets around the world indicate a bleak picture for the Elon Musk-led electric vehicle company. Even as it added the Cybertruck to its lineup in large volumes last yearwhich should have unlocked more buyers in America's expansive pickup truck fieldTesla is seeing serious declines in places where it once had a near-lock on electric sales. Let's take a look at some of the areas taking the hardest hits.Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox. As various outlets covered this week, theCalifornia New Car Dealers Association's (CADA) latest data indicates that EV sales leveled off in the Golden State last year, holding steady at 25.3% of new-car sales and just slightly up from 2023's result of 25%. Granted, while it's quite impressive for one in four new cars sold in California to be entirely electric, a slowdown in once-rapid EV growth has coincided with a big decline in Tesla sales.Their report doesn't mince words. "All of the decrease in the state market last year was attributable to Tesla, which had an 11.6% decline," it said. "Registrations for all other brands increased 1.4%." And that's for all new passenger vehicle registrations in California, not just EVs.Photo by: InsideEVsThe new Tesla Model Y will be released globally in March. Can it help reverse these sales declines?Toyota, Tesla, Honda, Ford, and Chevrolet were the market-shareleaders in California last year, and the Tesla Model Y kept its "best-selling light truck" crown. Yet California saw almost 30,000 fewer Model 3 registrations compared to 2023.The Model Y fared better, but was still down more than 4,000 units. The Cybertruck was California's top-selling electric truck, but cracked a mere 9,019 registrationsnot quite what you'd expect in an affluent, EV-friendly market and the one where Tesla was born. That was only 434 registrations off the aging and expensive Tesla Model X, for example. The story gets worse in other parts of the world. In Germany, where Tesla was the longtime EV sales leader even as new entries from Volkswagen, BMW, Audi and various Chinese brands started showing up, sales declined a whole 60% in Januaryjust1,277 registrations in Europe's biggest car market, according to Fortune.Teslas sales were also down 63% in France in January, another large car market, from a year earlier. They also dropped 8% in the UK year-over-year in January even as all-electric vehicle sales rose to 21% of the British new car market, a seven-point increase from 2024. "NoTesla cracked the UK's top 10 best-seller list last month, something that has regularly happened in the past," Ars Technica reported this week. And one trend that's especially worth watching is what's happening in China, which makes up more than a third of Tesla's global sales. In China, which leads the world in total all-electric and hybrid sales, Tesla dropped 11.5% in January. There are a few things that should be taken into account for these sales declines. Tesla once dominated EV sales but new competitors are showing up left and right, including in areas where Tesla doesn't play, like three-row SUVs.In China, sales often slow around the Lunar New Year holiday festivities and Tesla also implemented factory upgrades at itsGigafactory Shanghai plant to build the updated "Juniper" Model Y. And in several European markets, EV sales have been uneven or outright declined as various countries ended their subsidy programs; as a result, there are now calls for EU-wide subsidies that would promote growth across the entire bloc to counter new imports from China. But one factor feels inescapable at this point: the backlash to Elon Musk's increased involvement in politics. In the U.S., the Tesla CEO spent the past weekillegally, according to many lawyers and constitutional scholarsbreaching the U.S. Treasury Department's payment systemsas part of President Trump's effort to unilaterally defund various government agencies. In Germany, Musk's vocal support of thefar-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has been widely cited as a turn-off for EV buyers, and the same has been said of his politics in the UK.Though it's hard to gauge empirically, Musk's far-right political turn does seem to be having an effect on Tesla salesespecially among the more affluent, urban progressive-to-centrist buyers traditionally more inclined to buy EVs in many places. A recent report from the nonpartisan EV Politics Project indicates that Tesla and Musk are losing support among EV intenders and Democratic-leaning buyers faster than they're gaining support from people on the other side of the political spectrum, who tend to be less interested in EVs. In other words, Musk is losing Tesla sales ground with the traditional EV base, and not making it up with any of his new supporters.Photo by: InsideEVsEV Politics Project Slide"Republicans are creeping toward greater EV acceptance and willing or not, Elons journey to MAGA may have helped that," the group said in its latest report. "Meanwhile, the Elon-driven Tesla headwinds problem among non-Republican consumers is clearly growing."Though Tesla's stock surged after the election, attributed to investor faith in Musk's close relationship with Trump being able to help clear hurdles for goals like autonomous car deployment, it has sunk in recent days due to these dismal sales reports. The biggest thing to watch this year may be the release of the updated Model Y. In theory, a big refresh for the world's best-selling EV (and by some metrics, best-selling car, period) should jump-start sales in a major way. But if buyers are counting out the brand because of Musk, the success or failure of that car will be the ultimate barometer.Contact the author: patrick.george@insideevs.com More Tesla News Share this Story Got a tip for us? • CEO of Clearview AI, a controversial facial recognition startup, has resigned
    techcrunch.com
The CEO of Clearview AI, the controversial facial recognition startup that created a searchable database of 30 billion photos by scraping the internet, has resigned, according to a statement he supplied to TechCrunch. The CEO, Hoan Ton-That, said it is time for the next chapter in my life and that he would remain on as a board member of Clearview AI. He declined to comment when asked for more details on what specifically sparked his resignation. The news was first reported by Forbes.Clearview AI now has two co-CEOs, early investor Hal Lambert and co-founder Richard Schwartz, who want to capitalize on new opportunities under the Trump administration, according to a statement Clearview AI sent to TechCrunch. Both men have a long history in Republican politics. Lamberts investment firm, Point Bridge Capital, is best-known for launching the MAGA ETF in 2017, which invests in corporations supportive of Republican candidates. Meanwhile, Schwartz served as a senior advisor to Rudy Giuliani during his tenure as mayor of New York City.Clearview AI sells access to its facial recognition database to law enforcement and federal agencies who use it to identify suspects or find missing people. Because the startup obtained the photos without peoples consent, it has had to fend off multiple privacy suits and fines. As of September 2024, Clearview AI has racked up over $100 million in GDPR fines from European data protection agencies in the Netherlands, France, and elsewhere. Clearview AI has historically remained uncooperative, refusing to pay these fines. (Clearview didnt respond to a request for comment from TechCrunch asking if it has paid any yet.)Clearview AI has also faced a lawsuit from conservative investor and self-described investigative journalist Charles Johnson over claims that he was a co-founder and owed a share of commissions. Johnson recently dropped the suit, per a legal filing. But Clearview AIs counterclaims in the suit, which allege defamation and breach of contract against Johnson, are ongoing, Biometric Update reported.Ton-That declined to elaborate on his plans when asked by TechCrunch. According to his statement, Clearview AI is in its strongest position ever financially, achieving its highest growth and revenue in 2024. However, the startup has struggled to win large federal contracts and remains unprofitable, Forbes reported.Clearview AI, whose investors include Peter Thiel and Naval Ravikant, raised $30 million in a Series B round in 2021 that valued the company at $130 million, according to a post on its website.Topics

Show more Factors to consider when choosing the best MagSafe wallet for you: We chose these MagSafe wallets through a mix of hands-on testing, carefully curated research, and consideration of each product's everyday need and functionality. We also considered the following when making our top selections, and recommend keeping these in mind when making your own final decision.Practicality: These wallets aim to maximize efficiency. They all hold at least two of your most essential cards for easy access without adding too much weight or bulk to your phone, while potentially offering even more. Consider the amount of card storage you want to help narrow your search. If you're looking for storage for less than two, try checking out the best cardholders.Versatility: When making my final selections, I considered MagSafe wallets that may not fit every card you have but can add extra functionality or use for what they lack in card space. I also thought about how well they functioned during my day-to-day activities, which included my commute from NJ to NYC. Remember how versatile (or not) you want your wallet to be. Do you care if it doubles as a stand? A battery pack? Or do you just need card storage?Durability: Your wallet is essential in your daily life, and the same rule applies when considering wallet wallets affixed to your phone. No matter which product you select, you want it to last, especially if you're paying more than a few bucks. After extensive ZDNET testing and research, we intentionally chose wallets that will last you more than a few weeks. Be sure to consider if you're looking to make a long-term investment for a wallet accessory or need something quick for an event, vacation, festival, or other.Budget:As always, setting a budget to help you narrow your search parameters is a good idea. If you're looking to invest in a MagSafe wallet accessory long-term, spending $45 or more would probably be worth it. If you're only looking to use a MagSafe wallet for a few days or one event, it's probably not worth your money to spend more than $40.Occasion: Like your phone case, any accessory you affix to your phone becomes an extension of your personality. Consider the type of design or color you'd like (especially if your wallet will become a mainstay of your cell), and consider how you'll be using a phone wallet. Is it for everyday use? Special occasions? Events here and there? Narrowing down how you want to use your wallet can help you ultimately set a budget and decide on necessary features. Show more How did we choose these MagSafe wallets? ZDNET went hands-on with all the MagSafe wallets on this list. That is, can you "add-in" this product to your life and benefit from its presence? Or, is it another fad product that's too good to be true or collects dust after the buzz wears off?If we think another product is worth your money, we'll update this list or write up a spotlight review highlighting its best qualities and specifying who it's for.Plus, we are routinely scouring the web for new products that are worthy of testing, following news on product rollouts and upgrades, and sourcing the best deals. However, MagSafe rings that are sold separately can convert non-MagSafe cases into MagSafe-compatible cases. Show more Do I need a specific phone case to use a MagSafe wallet? Ideally, you should equip your phone with a MagSafe phone case, which also helps to protect your phone if you're looking to add a MagSafe wallet. You can find MagSafe phone cases at Apple, or other retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. Show more How do I know if my phone is MagSafe? The iPhone 12 through iPhone 15 models (minus the Mini) feature MagSafe technology. According to the Department of Homeland Security, RFID refers to Radio Frequency Identification. This technology uses radio waves to identify people or objects. There are devices that can read information contained in a wireless device or "tag" from a distance without making any physical contact or requiring a line of sight -- for example, the chips in credit or debit cards. Wallets which feature RFID-blocking technology prevent these devices from accessing information stored in protected chips, which can help prevent your bank information from being compromised. Show more Do MagSafe wallets ruin credit cards? No. MagSafe wallets will not damage your cards or make them unusable, though bending, breaking, chipping, and normal wear and tear can occur, just as with traditional wallets.
