• iMessage has had a weird bug for a few years, and its time for Apple to fix it
    9to5mac.com
For the past couple years, Ive noticed a weird bug on Apples Messages app specifically to do with images. Ive been hoping that Apple would get around to fixing it for the longest time, but they havent thus far.Essentially, if you send an AVIF image file on iMessage, it wont render properly. AVIF is an increasingly popular image format, so its a little annoying. However, thats just the tip of the iceberg. Itd be one thing if Apple just didnt support the file format. But, for some bizarre reason, it shows in a small window, with no way of expanding the preview. As a result, you just have a really tiny image on your screen that you cant properly look at.It behaves this way on both iOS and macOS. You can even properly see the AVIF image in the Message send preview, so youd never suspect anything prior to sending an image.Itd be one thing if Apple didnt support AVIF at all, but they do. Apple implemented support for AVIF image files in Safari in iOS 16, over two years ago.For whatever reason, they just havent gotten around to supporting it in iMessage, even though the AVIF files are visible to users. Theres just no way to properly view them. This experience is weird, and I sincerely hope Apple gets around to fixing it soon. AVIFs are supported in Safari and Photos, so theres nothing stopping users from sending them on iMessage. Theyll never render properly, and you end up in a weird situation where you sent an image that isnt viewable. Its annoying. My favorite iPhone accessories on Amazon:Follow Michael:X/Twitter,Bluesky,InstagramAdd 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. • Alibaba Releases Advanced Open Video Model, Immediately Becomes AI Porn Machine
    www.404media.co
On Tuesday, Chinese tech giant Alibaba released a new open AI video generation model called Wan 2.1 and shared the software on Github, allowing anyone with the technical know-how and hardware to use and modify freely. It took about 24 hours for the model to be adopted by the AI porn hobbyist community, which has already shared dozens of short AI porn videos using Alibabas software. Elsewhere, in a community thats dedicated to producing and sharing nonconsensual AI-generated intimate media of real people, users are already salivating over how advanced the model is.This is the double-edged sword of releasing open AI models that users can modify, which on one hand democratizes the use of powerful AI tools, but on the other is often used by early adopters to create nonconsensual content.Hunyuan just came out when? December? one user said Wednesday on Telegram channel dedicated to sharing nonconsensual AI-generated porn, referring to another open AI video generator developed by Tencent thats popular in that community. Now we get a better Text2Video Model [that] can handle more complicated motions c: This one just came out YESTERDAY and the first Lora which got made for this is a Titfuck .That user also shared a short video made with Wan 2.1 that was originally posted to Civitai, a site for sharing modified AI models that multiple 404 Media stories have shown is widely used by people who create nonconsensual content. By my count, however, this model, Better Titfuck (WAN and HunYuan), is not the first Wan 2.1 model on Civitai thats been modified to produce pornography. That dubious honor more likely goes to Wan-AI / Wan2.1 Video Model, which was shared a few hours earlier.According to statistics shared by Civitais model pages, each of these models has already been downloaded hundreds of times. Civitai model pages also allow people to share videos they created with the AI models, and both pages feature dozens of pornographic videos. Civitai allows users to share AI models that have been modified to produce the likeness of real people and models that have been modified to produce pornography, but does not allow users to share media or models of nonconsensual pornography. However, as 404 Medias previous stories have shown, theres nothing preventing Civitai users from downloading the models and using them to produce nonconsensual content off-site.Alibaba did not immediately respond to a request for comment. How to solve today's Wordle.SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty ImagesLooking for Saturdays Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:Its been a minute since we took a walk down memory lane, so on this lovely, lazy Sunday, I figured why not? Here are some big, important things that took place on March 2nd over the years:1836 Texas Declares Independence from MexicoThe Texas Revolution culminated in the Texas Declaration of Independence, officially severing ties with Mexico. This led to the formation of the Republic of Texas, which later joined the United States in 1845. When I think of this time period, I always think of the battle of the Alamo, which took place several days later. I was raised on John Wayne movies, and The Alamo (1960) made an impression!1877 Rutherford B. Hayes Declared Winner of the U.S. PresidencyThe controversial Compromise of 1877 settled the disputed 1876 presidential election between Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel Tilden. In exchange for federal troops being withdrawn from the South, effectively ending Reconstruction, Hayes was declared the winner. You see, weve always had controversial and divisive elections in this country!1933 King Kong Premieres in New York CityThe original King Kong film premiered at Radio City Music Hall and the RKO Roxy in New York City, becoming a cinematic milestone and influencing the monster movie genre for decades. Still the best version of the King Kong story.1943 The Battle of the Bismarck SeaA major air-sea battle during World War II, in which U.S. and Australian forces ambushed and decimated a Japanese convoy attempting to reinforce New Guinea. The victory significantly weakened Japanese operations in the South Pacific.1962 Wilt Chamberlain Scores 100 Points in a Single NBA GamePhiladelphia Warriors center Wilt Chamberlain set an NBA record by scoring 100 points in a game against the New York Knicks, a feat that remains unmatched in professional basketball. Is it just me, or did professional basketball used to be more fun to watch? Now its just 3-pointers all day long.1969 The First Concorde Test FlightThe supersonic airliner Concorde made its maiden flight from Toulouse, France. This high-speed jet revolutionized commercial aviation, cutting transatlantic travel times in half until its retirement in 2003. Not to be confused with New Zealand musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords.2004 NASA's Mars Rover Opportunity Discovers Evidence of Water on MarsThe Opportunity rover found hematite spheres, nicknamed "blueberries," which provided strong evidence that liquid water once existed on Mars, reshaping our understanding of the planets history.Okay, Wordle time! How To Solve Todays WordleThe Hint: GodThe Clue: This Wordle ends with a vowel that can double as a consonant.Okay, spoilers below!...The Answer:Today's WordleCredit: Erik KainWordle AnalysisEvery day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. Deitas originates from deus, the Latin word for "god," which is linked to the Proto-Indo-European root dyeu- meaning "to shine" or "sky," often associated with celestial deities. This root is also connected to words like Zeus in Greek and Dyaus in Sanskrit.Let me know how you fared with your Wordle today on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. • More From Chicago: Protecting Artists, Free Speech And The Meaning Of Education
    www.forbes.com
LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 15: Students throw their caps in the air ahead of their graduation ceremony ... [+] at the Royal Festival Hall on July 15, 2014 in London, England. Students of the London College of Fashion, Management and Science and Media and Communication attended their graduation ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall today. (Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)Getty ImagesTheres such a wide range of issues that confront those of us who are looking closely at the race towards more powerful artificial intelligence. There are questions about how humans coexist with AI, how we harness its potential the right way, and how it affects things like jobs and education.I wanted to cover some of the points that Ive been hearing about how this works.Human Value and Intellectual PropertyOne of the overarching themes as people talk about AI and job displacement is that we have to value people, and help them to keep control of their own data. For example, if an AI starts to take a humans past work and replicate it somehow, thats going to devalue what the human is still offering to the job market. Ive covered these types of concerns so often in assessing how AI is entering the market, and notable people from Tim Berners-Lee and Will.i.am to various MIT academics have told us that we need to keep an eye on who owns peoples data.In a wide ranging interview with Randall Lane (of Forbes) and University of Chicago president Paul Alivisatos, we can see an example of this type of protection in action. Alivisatos notes that a team at the university found that an AI was replicating the works of a human artist, and so they took steps to make those works harder to imitate with a tool called Nightshade.Nightshade will alter the visual art such that it's much more difficult for the AI to adjust it and then create that style, he said. So now future works are copyright protected, whether you know the company that's ingesting it has thought about that, or not.The Role of Open DebateAnother thing that was central in this interview was the idea of free speech, and community discussion of issues.Lane referred to the Chicago principles, which include the idea that university shouldnt put their thumbs on the scale, but should allow faculty students and others to speak their minds.Alivisatos referred to a Chicago booklet that highlights some of this way of thinking.Chicago principles are at the core of being a truth-seeking institution, he said. It goes all the way back to 1900 when William Rainey Harper, the first president of the University of Chicago, gave a speech called free expression in the university. And he laid out the principles: we will always allow faculty and students to speak their minds. The university itself will not take a position telling people what to think, because thats just so destructive to free expression. He suggests that Chicago got it right while other universities were struggling with the words and actions of their administrators, and experiencing a lot of turmoil over certain issues.Educating Tomorrows StudentWhat does it mean to be an educated person? Alivisatos asked. He suggested that employers want employees with humanism and social science skills, but acknowledged that its hard to get there, given the investment that students have to make in their own education. The one thing we do teach students, you know, we're going back to that core curriculum every day, he said. We're saying, learn to listen to other people share your idea, but be happy when somebody challenges you, because that may help you actually find the truth, which we're trying to do.These are all parts of the debate that were having when it comes to the emergence of AI in our world. How are we going to integrate it into the job market, and our philosophy around economics and business? Thats just one aspect of how we treat AI as digital intelligence that we have to coexist with, suddenly, in our world.

  • Conan OBrien is hosting the Oscars: what to expect and how we think hell do
    www.digitaltrends.com
Table of ContentsTable of ContentsWhat to expect from Conan OBrien at the OscarsHow we think Conan OBrien will do at the OscarsThis years Academy Awards are going to look a little different. For one thing, there wont be any musical performances at the Oscars for any of the tunes up for Best Song which we feel is a mistake. Nor will four-time host Jimmy Kimmel be presiding over the ceremony as he had for the past two years. Instead, another late night TV personality, Conan OBrien, will be hosting his first Oscars on Sunday, March 2.OBrien is a former writer for The Simpsons who shot to fame in the 90s as the host of Late Night with Conan OBrien before briefly transitioning to The Tonight Show on NBC. When OBrien fell out with NBC in 2010, he moved over to TBS to host a new late night show called Conan for 11 years before retiring from weekly hosting. Since 2021, OBrien has focused on podcasting and other comedic endeavors. Hes also a two-time host of the Emmy Awards and the White House Correspondents dinner.Recommended VideosIn the video above, OBrien factiously promises that the nine-hour telecast will include several moment in the Oscars where Ill be shirtless and oiled, before adding, I think thats going to hurt the program incredibly. Although OBrien has often let himself be the brunt of his own jokes, hes probably kidding about going shirtless.OBrien is also less political with his comedy than Kimmel is, but there may still be some jokes among party lines. That said, we wouldnt be surprised if OBriens frequent collaborator, Robert Smigel, brings his famous puppet Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to the Oscars. If there are going to be political jokes at this years Academy Awards, theyr would almost certainly come from Triumph if hes going to be used there.MaxThe short answer is hes going to do fine. Even if OBrien didnt have decades of late night comedy shows in his resume, hosting the Emmys is a lot like hosting the Oscars. There shouldnt be any problems with OBriens performance, and if there are awkward moments during the show, hes always managed to make the most out of those as well.Wed like to see OBrien honor the legacy of nine-time Academy Awards host Billy Crystal by opening the show with a song that incorporates himself into all 10 of this years Best Picture nominees. But that might be asking too much.Editors Recommendations

  • Seeing food in VR games? This sensor will put the real taste in your mouth
    www.digitaltrends.com
Table of ContentsTable of ContentsHow it works? The possibilities for VR, and beyondThe road to a realistic metaverseOver the past few years, researchers have tried to make virtual reality (VR) experiences even more immersive and personal. For example, back in 2022, the experts over at Stockholm University created a machine called olfactometer, which let users smell what they were seeing in a game while wearing a VR headset. But smell is only half the picture. What if you could actually deliver a real taste on the tongue? A team from the Ohio State University have created a sensing system called e-Taste that can replicate the taste of a real food items and drinks, and deliver it straight to another persons tongue living hundreds of miles away.Recommended VideosThe e-Taste consists of two components a taster and a receiver. The sensor contains a special patch that can detect the fundamental molecules responsible for the five varieties of taste viz. bitter, salty, sour, sweet, and umami. As part of their research, the team focused on detecting glucose and glutamate on the sensor patch. Ohio State University / Science AdvancesDuring the tests, a California-based person sipping lemonade dipped the taster patch inside the beverage. The sensor patch detected the concentration of target chemicals in the lemonade, and transmitted that electrochemical data to the receiver kit sitting in an Ohio lab.The receiver part includes a patch that rests on the tongue and a pump connected to a liquid channel of solutions. When stimulated electrically, the liquid passes through a gel-based system onto a persons tongue, providing a realistic sense of tasting food. The specific taste and its intensity can be adjusted by changing the volume of fluid discharged by the pump. During the human trials, the participants wearing the receiver kit were able to identify different levels of sourness with a 70% accuracy.Beyond helping to build a better and more dynamic gaming experience, the study notes that the work could be useful in promoting accessibility and inclusivity in virtual spaces for individuals with disabilities, like those with traumatic brain injuries or Long Covid, which brought gustatory loss to mainstream attention, says the team.Ohio State University / Science AdvancesIt could also help with identification and tasting of potential food sources in harsh conditions, online shopping, remote education, quality monitoring for freshness and consistency by robotic machines and remote analysis of taste perception by doctors. The team tested e-Taste over two network protocols. The short-range implementation covered a distance of 200 meters, while the long-range design relies on an internet connection with no limit on the distance involved. This concept is here and it is a good first step to becoming a small part of the metaverse, says Jinghua Li, co-author of the paper and faculty member at the institution. This wont be the first attempt of its kind to augment the VR experience with a sense of smell or taste. Two years ago, OVR revealed the ION 3 wearable kit for XR hardware that can produce hundreds of scents using a system of cartridges. The folks over at City University of Hong Kong and Beihang University in China developed a patch-based wearable sensor that relies on miniaturized odor generators using perfumed wax.Ohio State University / Science AdvancesThe VR kit can recognize visuals and produce the corresponding scent in roughly two seconds. But when it comes to the perception of taste, the sense of smell (or olfaction) plays an equally important role. The industry has already figured out how to deliver smell as part of AR and VR experiences. The e-Taste system demonstrates that remotely triggering realistic taste on the tongue is also possible. In addition to lemonade, the team also tested the human participants with food grade chemicals that represent the taste of cake, fried egg, coffee, and fish soup. This mixed-taste analysis was conducted using a mixed-channel e-Taste system called the digital cup.As far as latency goes, the short-range format measured at 0.3 second, while the figures for long-range information transfer stood at 1.4 seconds. The sensor response time, on the other hand, was roughly ten seconds. The gustatory interface will pave the way for a new era of AR/VR systems with chemical components by allowing users not only to visualize and hear virtual environments but also to taste them, says the research paper. The team is now focused on miniaturizing the e-Taste sensing kit. Moreover, they are also experimenting with a non-gel solution for delivering the taste chemicals. One of those ideas involves using separate pouches of water and taste fluid, and accordingly varying the concentration.Ohio State University / Science AdvancesWater solves another crucial problem: residual chemicals in the channel connected to the tongue. After each session, a water flow would internally clean the pipe and reduce chances of any taste contamination for future sessions.Learnings from the e-Taste system can be used to develop VR gaming systems that can help users get an immersive sensation combining real taste and smell of what theyre seeing in a virtual world. For now, what we have is an experimentally-validated system that its possible to fold taste into the virtual experiences. What remains is the miniaturization of the whole system and standardizing the electrochemical data representing various food items and beverages.Beyond the domain of VR, and moving on to your humble computing station, theres another solution that is about to launch in the market. Asus recently introduced a mouse that comes with a refillable pouch for aromatic oils. It can diffuse nice scents in the air while adding some zen to the whole work environment.Editors Recommendations

  • The twisted appeal of Trump’s humiliation of Zelenskyy
    www.vox.com
Donald Trump scolded the president of Ukraine Friday afternoon for expressing excessive hatred for Vladimir Putin and inadequate gratitude for the United States. This extraordinary dustup came at the tail end of a press conference featuring President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Vice President JD Vance. Zelenskyy had come to the White House with the hopes of burnishing relations with the US, in part by forging an agreement giving America a financial stake in Ukraines mineral wealth. Instead, the Ukrainian leader secured little from his American counterpart beyond public ridicule.Tensions started flaring when Trump defended his reluctance to publicly criticize Putin, saying that Zelenskyys hatred of the Russian leader was an obstacle to peace. Vance buttressed Trumps position by arguing that Joe Bidens tough talk about Putin hadnt done anything to prevent Russias invasion and that the path to peace lay through engaging in diplomacy.Zelenskyy then expressed reservations about Vances reasoning. The Ukrainian president noted that his country had signed a ceasefire with Russia following its invasion of Crimea in 2014, yet this had not secured lasting peace. He was therefore not inclined to strike another peace agreement, absent security guarantees that would prevent Russia from re-invading to capture more Ukrainian territory in the future. On these grounds, Zelenskyy asked Vance, What kind of diplomacy, JD, you are speaking about? The vice president took exception to this question and accused Zelenskyy of disrespecting the United States by trying to litigate this in front of the American media. He then told Zelenskky that he should be thanking the president for trying to bring an end to this conflict.Trump proceeded to tell the Ukrainian president that he was gambling with the lives of millions of people, and that he didnt have the cards right now, while Vance repeatedly demanded that the Ukrainian president say thank you.To liberals, some Republican foreign policy hawks, and most European leaders, Trump and Vances conduct constituted a historic disgrace: The American president had publicly mocked a US ally fighting an invasion, thereby undermining its position in (hypothetical) diplomatic negotiations with its oppressor. To Trumps admirers on the right, however, his dressing down of Zelenskyy was cause for catharsis and pride. The American Conservative magazine hailed the dustup as a great clarifying moment in which a US president finally stood up to Washingtons warmongering foreign-policy blob. Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon lauded the administrations performance as a Master Class in How to Deal with an Entitled Punk. Similar sentiments were issued from other conservative influencers, social media users, and politicians. The rights enthusiasm for Zelenskyys humiliation has two distinct sources. First, among Americas most radical social conservatives, Putins Russia has long commanded admiration as an exemplar of traditional sexual morality, in an increasingly decadent (i.e., LGBTQ-friendly) world. Second, a broader cohort of contrarian commentators, isolationist intellectuals, and nationalistic voters believe that the benefits of aiding Ukraine are slim, while the tail-risks are catastrophic. This perspective takes many disparate forms. In its most extreme rendering, however, Zelenskyy is understood as a villain: A dictator who is leading his war-weary populace into a meatgrinder while trying to ensnare the United States in World War III.Both of these perspectives are lamentable. But the unabashedly pro-Putin right is arguably more clear-eyed than its avowedly antiwar co-partisans: Trumps dressing down of Zelenskyy undoubtedly strengthened Russias position, but there is little reason to believe that it has hastened the return of peace. Why the right fell in love with PutinWhen Vladimir Putin reassumed the Russian presidency in 2012, he confronted a slowing economy and simmering public discontent. To shore up his support, Putin recast himself as a crusader for the Russian nations traditional values. The centerpiece of Putins hard right turn was a so-called anti-propaganda law that forbade positive portrayals of LGBTQ people in media available to minors. In the autocrats framing, this crackdown on civil liberties not only restored godliness to Russian society, but also established his nation as the great defender of Christianity on the world stage. Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values, Putin said in December 2013. Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation. At a time when American social conservatives felt themselves losing the culture war in general and the fight against gay equality in particular Putins words and deeds were an inspiration. In a 2014 column, the former Nixon speechwriter Pat Buchanan suggested that in the new ideological Cold War, God was on Russias side. Three years later, the Claremont Institute scholar Christopher Caldwell declared that if we were to use traditional measures for understanding leaders, which involve the defense of borders and national flourishing, Putin would count as the pre-eminent statesman of our time. The burgeoning ties between Americas Christian right and the Kremlin werent just ideological, but also institutional. Russian oligarchs have contributed funding to the World Congress of Families, an American Christian organization that promotes discrimination against LGBTQ people, the prohibition of abortion, and other reactionary causes. The Christian rights conception of Russia as a bastion of moral probity locked in a Cold War with an increasingly decadent West informed its understanding of the Russia-Ukraine War. In a July 2022 column for the Daily Wire, the reactionary self-help commentator Jordan Peterson suggested that Russias incursion into Ukraine may have been an act of self-defense against creeping Western wokeness. In Petersons telling, the conflict between Christian and progressive values had grown serious enough to increase the probability that Russia, say, will be motivated to invade and potentially incapacitate Ukraine merely to keep the pathological West out of that country. From this vantage, Trumps willingness to belittle the Ukrainian president and project a neutral stance on the war in defiance of the globalist elite constitutes a heroic defense of Christianity. To the anti-anti-Russian right, Zelenskyy is a dictator fomenting a nuclear warThe pro-Putin right is a marginal force in American life. In a 2024 Pew Research survey, just 8 percent of US voters said they had confidence in Putin to do the right thing in world affairs. But exhaustion with funding the Ukraine war is more widespread. A Pew poll taken last month found 30 percent of Americans including 47 percent of Republicans saying that the US was providing too much support for Ukraines defense (according to the Pentagon, the US has spent over $180 billion on the war thus far). There are more and less ideological versions of this sentiment. Less politically engaged voters may have no strong opinion about Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but simply feel that their government should spend less money on foreign countries and more on aiding its own people. From this nationalistic point of view, Trump and Vances grievance at Zelenskyys lack of gratitude for Americas altruism may prove resonant.More committed America First isolationists, however, harbor a deep resentment of the Ukrainian president. In their analysis, Zelenskyy is a dictator who cancels elections and refuses to accept a ceasefire, thereby condemning his own people to pointless deaths, in service of an unwinnable war. Whats worse, the Ukrainian leader is seeking to trigger a hot war between the United States and Russia which is to say, World War III since he knows he can only win with the direct aid of the US military. This argument has scant factual basis. It is true that Ukraine has not held previously scheduled elections since the wars onset. But the nations constitution bars such elections under conditions of martial law, in which citizens in occupied or embattled areas would be disenfranchised. And although Ukraine would surely welcome direct US military intervention in its defense, there is no evidence it regards that outcome as even a remote possibility.Nevertheless, this analysis has proven popular with contrarian podcasters and isolationist intellectuals. Last November, Joe Rogan excoriated Zelenskyy for firing missiles into Russian territory. He also mocked Zelenskyy for claiming that Ukraine had Putin terrified. Fuck you, man, Rogan said of the Ukrainian president. You fucking people are about to start World War III. This is cocaine-like behavior. Putins fucking scared, man, Putins terrified. Like, what are you talking about? He has nuclear missiles. You fucking monkeys.Notably, Rogans suggestion that Zelenskyys thinking was distorted by cocaine use was echoed by the Kremlin Friday. A fierce dressing down in the Oval Office, Putin adviser Dmitry Medvedev wrote on Telegram: Trump told the cocaine clown the truth to his face for the first time. For those who believe Zelenskyy is a coke-addled autocrat scheming to set off a nuclear war, Trumps ritual humiliation of the leader was more triumph than disgrace.Trumps break with Zelenskyy is more likely to advance Russian imperialism than peaceThe pro-Putin rights enthusiasm for Trumps dustup with Zelenskyy is well-founded. Ukraine cannot maintain the wars existing battle lines or exert substantial leverage at the negotiating table without American support. And it now appears that the Trump administration is indifferent to Ukraines fate. Following Fridays press conference, Trump declared that he did not want Ukraine to have an advantage in negotiations with Russia.Similarly, if one is solely concerned with minimizing the threat of USRussia war or American spending on foreign nations, then Fridays events could reasonably be a source of encouragement. But the self-styled anti-war right often claims to be outraged by Ukrainian war deaths and desirous of peace. To the extent that such remarks are sincere, they should not take much comfort in Trumps denunciations of Zelenskyy. Conservative isolationists often speak as though Putin has proffered a ceasefire deal, which Ukraine has stubbornly refused to accept. And yet, precisely because Russia enjoys natural advantages in a prolonged conflict (as isolationists sometimes emphasize), it is not necessarily inclined to lay down its arms. And this is liable to be all the more true if Russia believes that a cessation of US support for Ukraine is imminent a development that would drastically improve the Kremlins prospects for further territorial gains. This is all well and good for those who wish to see Russian theocracy advance and Western liberalism retreat. But it should bring little pleasure to conservatives sincerely committed to peace.See More:

  • The 5 third party games I guarantee will appear on Nintendo Switch 2 Readers Feature
    metro.co.uk
The 5 third party games I guarantee will appear on Nintendo Switch 2 Readers FeatureGameCentralPublished March 2, 2025 1:00am Will Assassins Creed Shadows be a Switch 2 launch title? (Ubisoft)A reader names the big name third party games he thinks are most likely to be released on Nintendo Switch 2 and why he expects to see them at the April Direct. So everyone is doing their Switch 2 predictions at the moment but I notice they all focus on what Nintendos going to release and how its many games are going to be updated for the new console. But Ive not seen a lot of speculation on what the third party games might be, which is surprising to me as better third party support is meant to be one of the big improvements for the Switch 2.For all its achievements, the current Switch has pretty bad third party support, in part because nobody expected it to be a hit and in part because its not powerful enough to run a lot of the games. The Switch 2 should solve this problem and so you can port anything from the PlayStation 4 era and probably get a fair amount of current gen games working too. This opens up all sorts of possibilities, from GTA 5 to Half-Life 3 (if its real) but Ive tried to stick to the five games I think are most likely. If these dont appear on the Switch 2 at some point Ill be shocked and I would expect most of them to be announced in April, during the Nintendo Direct, since most of them are already out on other formats.1. Elden RingThis one seems super obvious to me. The games one of the best of recent years, From are obviously Nintendo fans, and Nintendo gets on very well with publisher Bandai Namco. A game of the year edition with the DLC thrown in sounds like a no-brainer to me and definitely something Id be interested in. I also wouldnt be surprised if Elden Ring: Nightreign wasnt immediately announced for Switch 2 too, and maybe even a new From game as well. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 Microsoft did promise to bring COD to Switch (Activision)2. Call Of DutyThe only question with Call Of Duty is when, not if, it will appear on Switch 2. Most of Microsofts arguments for buying Activision Blizzard was based around bringing Call Of Duty to Switch and while everyone but the monopoly investigators knew that was nonsense, when it came to the current Switch, that kind of ensures Microsoft has to bring Call Of Duty to Switch 2. Probably this year if they can get it working and Im sure Call Of Duty: Warzone wont be far behind.3. Assassins Creed ShadowsUbisoft is the Western publisher that Nintendo gets on with the best (unless you count Xbox), so I dont see any way they wont have something major at launch ready for the Switch 2. Considering Shadows will only have been out for a few months by that point Im sure thatll be what they release, although they may also do Star Wars Outlaws. Both are current gen only but I dont feel Shadows is doing anything particularly special in terms of graphics, so I think Nintendo will want to use that as an example of a current gen game that works on Switch 2. Final Fantasy 7 Remake seems likely but what about Rebirth? (Square Enix)4. Final Fantasy 7 RemakeIn thinking about this list Ive also tried to think about what publishers get on well with Nintendo and thats usually always Japanese companies more than most. Theyve always been a bit distance from Square Enix, ever since the N64 era betrayal, but Im willing to bet that Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and probably Rebirth, will be an early Switch 2 release. Its already on PlayStation 4, its a major franchise, and theres lots of Final Fantasy 7 characters in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Given how keen Square Enix is to go multiformat I dont see how it doesnt happen.5. Resident Evil 9This is the only one Im not 100% certain about, but only because I cant work out which Capcom game will come to Switch 2 first. I guess it could just be Onimusha but that doesnt seem quite big enough to make a point, and Im not sure Monster Hunter Wilds, with its online demands, would be an easy thing to get up and running quickly. So my bet is Resident Evil 9, which may even be unveiled during the April Direct. Nintendo has a long history with Capcom and Resident Evil and even if Resident Evil 9 doesnt make it, because its too technically demanding, I bet they make a Switch 2 exclusive Resi instead.More TrendingBy reader Doggerel Resident Evil 4 remake might make the jump too (Capcom)The readers features do not necessarily represent the views of GameCentral or Metro. You can submit your own 500 to 600-word reader feature at any time, which if used will be published in the next appropriate weekend slot. Designed by interior architecture firm shell+core, ETHR Clubhaus is a cafe/bakery space in Sharjah, UAE that represents an exclusive lifestyle where design, art, food, and wellbeing are celebrated in a zen, plant-filled setting.Save this picture!Upon entering a sunken garden lounge, across a narrow, light-filled retail/kitchen block to the main dining area, the space is wholesome and welcoming - set on multiple levels encouraging customer and staff interaction. The idea of 'openness' is pushed, with an engaging facade spanning the full length of the space, bound by a large central kitchen block made of plywood and textured glass, radiating a warm perimeter glow from within, creating a play of shadows during operational hours.Save this picture!Save this picture!Sustainable, recycled materials dominate the interior, including a re-purposed cork wallpaper in brown earthy hues contrasting a white travertine stone flooring. A feature green marble derived from rock formations present in Sharjah's local context allows for a cohesive layering of materials that reference its surroundings as part of its overall spatial narrative.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Overall, ETHR Clubhaus is an amalgamation of objects, volumes, materials, and textures coming together to explore the art of storytelling through design, gracefully navigating a spatial narrative around that and allowing it to unfold.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:Sharjah, United Arab EmiratesLocation to be used only as a reference.
