• Nintendo Switch 2 could be first new console available in Russia since Ukraine invasion
    www.dailystar.co.uk
The Nintendo Switch 2 could come to Russia despite the ongoing Ukraine invasion, but is likely to cost significantly more than elsewhere in Europe here's all we knowTech13:47, 04 Mar 2025Expect a whole host of news on April 2The Switch 2 is coming this year, with an April 2 Nintendo Direct to reveal the console's launch lineup, pricing, and all-important release date.It should also confirm the markets the system will arrive in, and while the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is the subject of talks from world leaders, it appears the Switch 2 could come to the former. That's via Russian site IZ.ru (translated by Google Translate) which suggests the console will be ordered into the country after the Nintendo Direct event. It seems unlikely the Switch 2 will be cheaper than its predecessorIn the report, M.Video-Eldorado is credited as one of the first retailers to be taking inventory of the new Nintendo hardware after the April 2 reveal, as well as pointing to stocking games including "Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart" (interestingly, only a new Mario Kart is confirmed at this point in time).Achivka, Russia's "largest distributor of consoles and video games", is also planning to import the Switch 2."I expect the console to cost no more than 500 in Europe. To this amount we need to add 5% of logistics costs, 10% of state duty costs and the current ruble exchange rate at the time of the start of sales," the company's CEO Yasha Haddaji said."If the console would go on sale today, then after all taxes its cost would reach 65 thousand rubles," which equates to around 570.Worryingly for Russian gamers, one expert has suggested the price could start at 70 thousand rubles (over 600)."Switch, unlike Steam Deck, is a niche product for fans of Nintendo games. Therefore, I expect that the product will interest fans of the brand, but it is unlikely to be in mass demand in Russia," he said. Bold words indeed we've learned not to count Nintendo out.Article continues belowOne IT expert even suggested the price in Russia could reach 90 thousand rubles, which is almost 800.Given Russia is reportedly looking to launch its own gaming console, jokingly dubbed the Putindo, we could be in for a clash of the titans. For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.

  • Amouranth shoots and injures crypto thieves during home invasion
    metro.co.uk
The streamer was injured in the attack, but is now safe (X/Amouranth)Within 24 hours, Amouranth was held at gunpoint in an attempted robbery while a trio of female streamers were assaulted in public. Its no secret that streamer and internet celebrity Kaitlyn Siragusa, better known as Amouranth, is incredibly wealthy. She has been very open about her various million dollar investments and, last year, revealed she had made approximately 45 million through her OnlyFans account alone.Unfortunately, this has resulted in an attempted robbery, with three men reportedly breaking into her house and holding her at gunpoint, demanding a crypto payment. The incident occurred on March 3, with Amouranth posting to her X account that she was being robbed. About 35 minutes later, she updated her followers to reveal that she was safe, having shot one of her attackers and driven them away.Unsurprisingly, some of the initial reactions consisted of accusations that Amouranth was making the whole thing up, but the Houston Police Officers Union has since corroborated the incident.Amouranth subsequently explained that she had been dragged out of bed by her aggressors, who physically attacked her, even pistol whipping her, before handing her her phone so she could log in to her crypto wallet. She added that she posted about the robbery to social media because she had a gun to her head and calling would be a death sentence.Amouranth has even shared surveillance footage of the incident, showing her leading the would-be thieves to her streaming room. While you cant see what occurs inside the room, three gunshots are heard and then the thieves run away.Although Amouranth has said she was the one to fire a gun at one of the thieves, the Houston Police Department told Decrypt that it was her husband who did it, as he was already in the room when the thieves entered. This footage has already been submitted to the police and forensics is checking the trail of blood left on her driveway. However, Amouranth has admitted that shes not supposed to have shared the footage and will likely have to take it down. This comes a few months after Amouranth publicly showed off how much money she has invested in cryptocurrency just over $20 million in Bitcoin (approximately 15.7 million).Regardless, this is undoubtedly a harrowing experience for Amouranth. While Decrypt reports she didnt sustain any life-threatening injuries from the attack, she has suggested this could prompt her to leave streaming and the internet permanently.More TrendingShockingly, this wasnt the only incident regarding a popular female streamer to occur that day. Elsewhere, a trio of streamers Valkyrae, Emiru, and Cinna were holding a livestream at the Santa Monica Pier when they were approached by an unidentified man who asked for Emirus phone number. After his request was denied, he proceeded to stalk them, even threatening to kill them, before lunging at them, bringing the stream to an abrupt end as the streamers security detail stepped in.Valkyrae would later confirm that nobody was hurt but the attacker is still at large and, in a follow-up stream, she said she is investing as much as I can to find this guy.In another X post, Valkyrae wrote how this incident just shows the harsh reality women live in. I hope other women and streamers learn from seeing this interaction and also be aware that this can happen to anybody, anywhere. • Call Of Duty: Warzone in trouble claims insider as fears of a shutdown grow
    metro.co.uk
Are you still playing Warzone? (Activision)There are signs of Call Of Duty losing significant numbers of players, which could encourage Activision to abandon plans for Warzone 3.It was a big deal when Activision first released free-to-play battle royale Call Of Duty: Warzone in 2020. Although everything about the game had leaked ahead of its reveal, that did little to dull excitement amongst fans, with the game attracting six million players in only one day.In 2023, Warzone was shut down and replaced by its successor, Warzone 2.0 (which Activision now just calls Warzone) but the attempt to reset the games popularity has not really worked as planned.According to the latest rumours (which include claims of the 2026 Call Of Duty being made for the next gen Xbox), if the next season of content doesnt turn the games fortunes around then Activision will ditch its plans for a Warzone 3.Is Call Of Duty: Warzone being shut down?In case youre thinking, Wait, theres going to be a Call Of Duty: Warzone 3?, Activision has not said anything about it officially. However, its something fans have suspected is happening for the last couple of months.Back in January, datamining efforts by X user CODWarfareForum uncovered references to a Warzone 3 (apparently codenamed REX) within Warzones files, alongside references to Call Of Duty 2026, which is speculated to be Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.As such, the running theory is that a new iteration of Warzone is planned to launch alongside the 2026 game. However, Call Of Duty insider GhostOfHope says that whether this new Warzone happens hinges on the current Warzones next update.Season three of Warzone and Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 is going to be an important one, since it will mark the return of the original Verdansk map. As a reminder, this was the map Warzone debuted with in 2020, but it was destroyed in-game and replaced with a new map in 2021.Ever since, players have been clamouring for it to come back and, last year, Activision announced it would do so in spring 2025, no doubt emboldened by the nostalgia driven success of Fortnite OG.The plan was for season three to arrive on March 20 (since thats when season twos battle pass expires), but Activision has opted to hold the update and Verdansk back for an extra couple of weeks.Season 03 is a big moment for Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6, and were taking the time to deliver a great experience starting on April 3, reads an X post from the Call Of Duty account. At the very least, this shows Activision considers the update an important one and wants to make sure its as good as it can possibly be, to please current players and win back those who dropped Warzone. If Activision does opt to ditch Warzone 3 though, its unclear if this will lead to Warzone as it is being shut down or if the game will continue but with less support. While it is possible that the current Warzone may be shut down thats not apocalyptic as it sounds and it has happened before, when they switched from the original game to Warzone 2.0.Warzone was not even the first Call Of Duty battle royale and just as Warzone took over from Blackout its more than likely Warzone will be replaced with something else rather than Activision abandoning the concept altogether. Why is Call Of Duty: Warzone losing players?Theres not one singular reason for Warzones drop in popularity but according to GhostOfHope the game continues to see diminishing returns, arguing that its inability to retain players consistently makes it difficulty for Activision to justify spending resources on it.Apart from anything else, Call Of Duty has always had persistent issues with cheaters, which has only got worse over time, despite Activisions genuine attempts to address the issue.More TrendingTheres also been a general sense of frustration with Call Of Duty thanks to expensive microtransactions, such as the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles skins, and its use of AI.While there are no public figures for player numbers on consoles, theres certainly evidence of a dwindling player base on PC. While Steam Charts doesnt provide specific numbers for Warzones player count, it does show that the Call Of Duty launcher (which supports multiple games) has attracted an average of about 53,684 players in the last 30 days.Thats the lowest the average player count has ever been and is shocking for a series that, at its peak, was drawing in hundreds of thousands of players.By comparison, Marvel Rivals is stomping it with an average of 222,543 players, while Apex Legends (which Warzone used to regularly beat when it launched) has an average of 94,776 players. Not as high as Marvel Rivals but still far more thanCall Of Duty is managing at the moment. Maybe crossovers arent the answer to Call Of Dutys player woes (Activision)Emailgamecentral@metro.co.uk, leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter, andsign-up to our newsletter. To submit Inbox letters and Readers Features more easily, without the need to send an email, just use ourSubmit Stuff page here. For more stories like this, check our Gaming page.GameCentralSign up for exclusive analysis, latest releases, and bonus community content. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. • Who Is Liu Jiakun? 10 Things to Know About the 2025 Pritzker Architecture Laureate
    www.archdaily.com
Who Is Liu Jiakun? 10 Things to Know About the 2025 Pritzker Architecture LaureateSave this picture!Chengdu Museum of Contemporary Arts. Image Arch-ExistLiu Jiakun, the 2025 Pritzker Prize winner, has spent decades redefining Chinese architecture by combining utopia with function and social engagement with personal memory. His buildings are reflections of the everyday lives of ordinary people, crafted with an understanding of place, culture, and materiality. Rejecting the pursuit of a fixed architectural style, Jiakun believes in a strategy rather than a signature aesthetic, tailoring each project to its specific context and needs. His work integrates history with contemporary urban needs, collectivism with individual experience, and density with openness, offering timely solutions to the challenges of rapid urbanization.Jiakun's approach is deeply rooted in Chinese philosophy, common sense, and local craftsmanship, ensuring that architecture grows naturally from its surroundings rather than being imposed upon them. His buildings reflect an authenticity that speaks to both past and present, avoiding grand gestures in favor of spaces that foster interaction, spirituality, and human connection. Liu Jiakun has pioneered a new way of living together, where density is no longer the antithesis of openness. His designs embrace and reinforce the lifestyles of their users, creating buildings that are revitalized by the public. -- Alejandro Aravena, Jury Chair of the 2025 Pritzker Prize Related Article Chinese Architect Liu Jiakun Receives the 2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize 1. Early Life & Education: From Art and Literature to ArchitectureBorn in Chengdu, China, in 1956, Liu Jiakun did not set out to become an architect. He originally aspired to be a painter and writer, drawn to the expressive power of the arts. However, believing that architecture was closely related to drawing, he applied to the Chongqing Institute of Architecture and Engineering. After graduating in 1982, he worked briefly at the Chengdu Architectural Design Academy, which he found "unenjoyable". Disappointed with the rigid structure of the profession, he left architecture entirely, embarking on a self-exploratory journey that lasted over a decade. During this time, he lived in Tibet and Xinjiang, where he practiced meditation, painting, and writing while officially working at the Literature Academy as a writer. His artistic pursuits led him to publish several works of fiction, reinforcing his belief that creativity should be deeply personal and tied to human experience.Save this picture! In 1993, a turning point arrived when Jiakun attended an architectural exhibition organized by a former classmate. Seeing those projects rekindled his passion for the built environment, and he decided to give architecture another chance. In 1999, he founded Jiakun Architects in his hometown of Chengdu, marking the beginning of a career that would gain international recognition for its cultural depth and social consciousness. 2. Architectural Philosophy: Strategy Over Style Save this picture!Liu Jiakun's work is not defined by stylistic repetition but by a deep response to site, materials, and social needs. He believes architecture should emerge naturally from its context, responding to local traditions, climate, and human behavior, rather than following global trends. His designs prioritize common sense and wisdom over rigid theoretical frameworks, ensuring that his buildings are functional, poetic, and socially engaging. "I have always aspired to be like water, permeating local environments and sites, which over time will solidify and transform into architecture," Jiakun explains. His approach is influenced by Chinese philosophy and Heideggerian thought, particularly the idea that architecture should evoke a sense of poetry and atmosphere rather than just fulfill a practical function.3. Consulting with Local Craftsmen Before the Design Is FinalizedSave this picture! One of the most distinctive aspects of his process is his collaboration with local laborers, ensuring that his designs are buildable, practical, and rooted in vernacular craftsmanship. As he describes it, "Once I understand what the workers can do, then I can design my building." This philosophy allows his work to maintain a sense of honesty and human touch, avoiding unnecessary complexity while embracing the imperfections of handmade construction.4. Prioritizing Public Space in High-Density CitiesSave this picture! As urban centers become increasingly dense, Liu Jiakun challenges the traditional approach of zoning, which separates residential, commercial, and public spaces into isolated areas. Instead, he advocates for integrated environments where different functions coexist harmoniously, fostering community interaction and accessibility. His projects prioritize walkability, public gathering spaces, and shared resources, ensuring that urban density does not come at the expense of livability. One of the most notable examples of this approach is the Xicun Compound (Chengdu, 2015), a five-story mixed-use complex that defies the conventional high-rise model dominating many Chinese cities. Instead of a rigid structure with strictly defined zones, Xicun Compound functions as a fluid, interconnected space where private and public realms integrate. By rethinking how public and private spaces interact, Liu Jiakun presents an alternative vision for sustainable and socially engaged city planning, one that prioritizes people over vehicles, interaction over isolation, and shared spaces over division.Save this picture!Liu Jiakun's West Village project introduces a new urban typology that blurs the lines between architecture, public space, and landscape. Conceived as a "maxi-courtyard," this development transforms an entire city block into a multi-layered, socially vibrant environment, aiming to redefine how public and private spaces interact in modern Chinese cities. Unlike traditional high-rise residential complexes that prioritize individual living units over community spaces, West Village is designed to promote social interaction and shared experiences. The development features elevated walkways, green terraces, and interconnected courtyards, offering multiple visual connections and movement routes. By integrating parks, sports facilities, retail spaces, and cultural venues into a single architectural framework, Jiakun reintroduces the concept of communal living in a contemporary urban setting.5. Reinterpreting Chinese ArchitectureSave this picture!Liu Jiakun draws inspiration from traditional Chinese architecture but reinterprets it in a way that feels both innovative and deeply rooted in cultural memory. For example, the Suzhou Imperial Kiln Gold Brick Museum (2016) does not replicate ancient pavilion structures but reimagines their spatial qualities, using contemporary materials to create a sense of openness, transparency, and historical continuity. Similarly, the Luyeyuan Stone Sculpture Art Museum (2002) blends contemporary museum design with the philosophy of traditional Chinese gardens. Here, courtyards, pathways, and water features create a fluid interaction between architecture and nature, reinforcing the Chinese principle of harmony between human-made and natural environments. Jiakun's ability to honor tradition without nostalgia sets him apart. He is not interested in recreating the past, but rather in extracting its wisdom and applying it in ways that remain relevant in contemporary society.6.Pioneering the Use of "Rebirth Bricks" After the 2008 EarthquakeSave this picture!Following the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, which devastated vast regions of China, Liu Jiakun responded by pioneering an innovative technique to recycle rubble into new construction materials. This method, which he called "rebirth bricks," allowed communities to rebuild using the remnants of their destroyed homes, transforming disaster into resilience. One of the most powerful applications of this method was the Hu Huishan Memorial (Chengdu, 2009), a small but deeply meaningful structure dedicated to a 15-year-old girl who lost her life in the earthquake. Jiakun's use of rebirth bricks extended beyond just post-earthquake reconstruction. He integrated these recycled materials into other projects, such as the Novartis Shanghai Campus, Shui Jing Fang Museum, and Xicun Compound, ensuring that the earthquake's legacy was not erased but rather embedded into new architecture.7. Balancing History and InnovationSave this picture!Liu Jiakun's architecture frequently engages in a dialogue between past and present. A key example is the Chengdu Shui Jing Street Wineworks Ruins Museum, which integrates archaeological remnants into an active public venue. Instead of preserving the site as a static historical artifact, Jiakun incorporates it into the daily lives of the community, allowing visitors to experience history as a living part of the urban fabric. Similarly, the Tianbao Cave Renovation (Luzhou, 2021) demonstrates how contemporary architecture can fit seamlessly into the natural landscapes. Through projects like these, Liu Jiakun proves that history is not something to be frozen in time but something that can evolve and adapt to new societal needs.8. A Leading Voice in Contemporary Chinese ArchitectureSave this picture!Liu Jiakun is frequently compared to other pioneering Chinese architects such as Wang Shu, Zhu Pei, and Yung Ho Chang, but his approach is uniquely his own. Unlike some of his contemporaries, who often use reclaimed traditional materials in their work, Jiakun chooses to reinterpret historical forms using contemporary construction methods. He sees himself as a "latecomer" to China's independent architectural scene, having spent over a decade outside the profession, pursuing literature and artistic exploration. However, this unconventional path has given him a distinct perspective on architecture, one that is free from rigid academic constraints. Rather than resisting globalization, Jiakun believes that architecture should embrace both local and global ideas, stating: "Ideas should be shared and multiplied. We should take what is quintessential about different cultures to enrich our own."9. Exhibiting at the Venice Biennale & Serpentine PavilionSave this picture!Liu Jiakun's work has been widely recognized on the global stage, with multiple appearances at the Venice Architecture Biennale. His projects have been exhibited in both the 11th (2008) and 15th (2016) editions of the Biennale, highlighting his deep engagement with themes of regional identity, vernacular traditions, and social responsibility in architecture. Beyond Venice, Jiakun's architectural philosophy and practice were the focus of a solo exhibition at Berlin's AEDES Gallery in 2017, one of the world's leading architecture galleries. In 2018, Liu Jiakun was invited to design the first-ever Serpentine Pavilion in Beijing, marking a major milestone in his global career. The Serpentine Pavilion, originally established in London in 2000, is one of the most influential architectural commissions in the world, featuring designs by figures such as Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, Bjarke Ingels, and Frida Escobedo. Jiakun's selection for the Beijing edition reflected his growing prominence beyond China, positioning him alongside the world's most innovative architects.10. A Writer, Philosopher, and EducatorSave this picture!Beyond his architectural practice, Liu Jiakun is deeply engaged in teaching, public discourse, and intellectual exploration, using these platforms to reflect on the philosophical, cultural, and social dimensions of architecture. His design philosophy prioritizes vernacular wisdom, resourcefulness, and low-tech strategies over high-tech, industrialized solutions. He believes in "appropriate technology"-an approach that values simplicity, accessibility, and long-term sustainability over architectural spectacle. This thinking is evident in his built works, where he frequently collaborates with local laborers, integrates salvaged materials, and adapts to real-world constraints with ingenuity.Save this picture! As an educator, Liu Jiakun has played a significant role in shaping architectural discourse. He is a visiting professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, one of China's most prestigious art and design institutions, where he encourages students to think critically about the role of architecture in contemporary society. Additionally, he has lectured at leading international institutions, including MIT, the Royal College of Art in London, and the City of Architecture and Heritage in Paris, engaging with global conversations about architecture's evolving role in culture, identity, and urban development. Through these platforms, he continues to influence the next generation of architects and challenge conventional narratives about modern design. We invite you to check out ArchDaily's comprehensive coverage of the Pritzker Prize. • Liu Jiakun: Get to Know the 2025 Pritzker Winner's Work
    www.archdaily.com
The 2025 Pritzker Prize has been awarded this year to Chinese Architect Liu Jiakun. Born in Chengdu in 1956, he grew up in the densifying city, before attending and graduating from the Chongqing Architecture and Engineering College (Chongqing University) in 1982 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Architecture, and becoming one of the first college graduates to be tasked with rebuilding the country during the Chinese transition period. However, it wasn't until many years later that the architect understood that "the built environment could be used as a medium for personal expression". It was then that his endeavors and career took off, with Liu Jiakun starting his practice in 1999, and participating in more collaborative works across China and Europe. Based on his experiences, his works are anchored in his understanding of reality and a respect towards China's multi-traditional history and internal diversity; all while achieving a seamless balance between architecture and nature, tradition and modernity.

AI agents can be your personal productivity assistant, taking on your busy work and allowing you to make consequential decisions. Its like having a personal assistant who automatically helps with all tasks online from planning and booking a vacation to keeping track of property tax deadlines, added Ambuj Kumar, founder of Simbian, a provider of autonomous AI agents for cybersecurity in Mountain View, Calif. Not only is the idea very powerful and completely feasible today, he told TechNewsWorld, but this could be one of those technologies that helps everyone.First Native AI AgentAlthough other browsers have incorporated AI features, Opera is the first to make an AI agent native to a browser. The concept is not new, but the way that Opera is implementing it is new, said Sandi Besen, an applied AI researcher at IBM and Neudesic, a global professional services company.Other companies capture screenshots and screen videos and send them to their AI models in the cloud to follow through on actions. Browser Operator interacts with the elements on a web page through Document Object Model technology.Basically, the DOM is automatically created by the browser, Besen told TechNewsWorld. Its essentially an in-memory representation of the web pages structure. One advantage of using DOM, she noted, is it creates a more seamless user experience because its more native to the browser environment. It improves the agents performance, too. It doesnt need to take a screenshot, send that to the model, wait for what the model wants to do next, and then execute a tool to make something happen in the browser, she explained. Instead, it can just access the web page data.It also enhances privacy because everything is done locally on the device, she continued. Its not being run or sent to a server or a cloud-based hosted model somewhere. So the informations being kept locally, which is better for privacy concerns, especially if youre navigating things like login information or passwords.Komninos Chatzipapas, founder of HeraHaven AI, developer of an AI-based virtual companion app, in St. Petersburg, Fla. added that a significant advantage of doing agentic AI natively and locally on the browser is, unlike the cloud approach of OpenAIs Operator, users will already be logged into all their accounts. You will be using your local IP, so you wont need to solve captchas every other minute like on Operator, he told TechNewsWorld. Can Operas AI Shift Market Share?Operas innovative approach could give it some leverage in a market where it has been only a niche player. This is one potential advantage for Opera, said Rob Enderle, president and principal analyst of the Enderle Group, an advisory services firm in Bend, Ore.Others treat browsers as cost centers and thus dont put much development emphasis on them, he told TechNewsWorld. Opera, by focusing advancement on their browser, could move around the more established players if users find this feature compelling, and they may.He argued that Browser Operator could have an impact on Operas market share. It depends on how well Opera can get the word out, get influencers to use the feature, and then get to a critical mass of regular users to drive an adoption wave, he said. In theory, Operas Browser Operator AI could enhance its market position by differentiating it from competitors, noted Mark N. Vena, president and principal analyst with SmartTech Research in Las Vegas.By integrating agentic AI for automation, search efficiency, and task execution, Opera may attract tech-savvy users, he told TechNewsWorld. However, market impact depends on execution, adoption rates, and competition from big-hitter AI-enhanced browsers like Edge, Copilot, and Chrome, with Gemini.Ross Rubin, the principal analyst at Reticle Research, a consumer technology advisory firm in New York City, pointed out that AI innovation hasnt been successful in the past in disgorging market share from entrenched players.Microsofts launching of an AI-infused Bing brought more attention to that search engine than we had seen in a long time, but it hasnt meaningfully moved the needle for Bing in terms of search engine share, he told TechNewsWorld. And theres less of a barrier going to Bing instead of Google, as opposed to downloading a whole new browser, he said. So, Browser Operator is probably not going to do much in terms of Operas relative standing.AI Agents EverywhereBrowser Operator is just the first of what will be a proliferation of AI agents, predicted David Johnston, a contributor to Morpheus, an open-source platform for launching smart agents. All browsers will include them, as the productivity increases are amazing, he told TechNewsWorld.AI is in discovery mode, and people are experimenting with where to best access its powers, he said. From websites to dedicated apps, smart agents will be everywhere.Web browsers are there to make you more powerful while youre online, browsing the web and to give you the tools to use your time more effectively, Operas Standal added. Browser Operator showcases that we have the capability of making a useful and smart tool within the browser which aligns with the overall objective of a web browser of being useful. With this feature preview were showing a proof of concept of where AI could take us when we use AI to leverage our work building a web browser and this applies to every industry, he said.John P.
