  • CFPB lets banks off the hook and drops Zelle lawsuit
    www.theverge.com
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) today dismissed a lawsuit against Early Warning Services, the company that runs the Venmo-like Zelle payment platform, as well as the three banks that share ownership of it, reports CNBC.The CFPB, which enforces regulations against the financial services industry, had claimed in its December 2024 lawsuit that the organizations had not effectively protected Zelle users from widespread fraud, causing customers of Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo to lose a combined $870 million since Zelle launched in 2017.The regulators filing says it is dismissing its court case with prejudice, meaning that it cant bring its claims again. Eric Halperin, the CFPBs former head of enforcement, told CNBC that doing so also means theres no way of clawing back funds for consumer relief. Representatives from Zelle, JPMorgan, and the Consumer Bankers Association each praised the ruling in statements to the outlet.President Donald Trumps administration, including Elon Musks Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have pushed hard to effectively shut down the CFPB. The agency has only published one enforcement action since President Donald Trumps inauguration, and under acting Director Russell Vought its dropped several cases that were brought by its Biden-era leader, Rohit Chopra. Agency employees are currently fighting in court to halt the move, alleging theyve been prevented from carrying out legally mandated duties including responding to urgent consumer complaints.

  • Stride Forward: Pioneering the Future of Humanoid Robotics
    towardsai.net
Author(s): Luhui Hu Originally published on Towards AI. Humanoid robotics has always been at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence, merging intricate control systems with dynamic real-world challenges. In our recent work, STRIDE: Automating Reward Design, Deep Reinforcement Learning Training and Feedback Optimization in Humanoid Robotics Locomotion, we introduced a novel framework that not only automates the laborious process of reward design but also sets the stage for more agile, robust, and adaptive robotic systems.Current Advances in Humanoid RoboticsTraining a humanoid robot to walk, run, or balance is vastly different from teaching a simple robotic arm to move an object. Humanoid robots have dozens of joints, actuators, and sensors working in sync, creating an extremely high-dimensional control problem. In deep reinforcement learning (DRL), the training process relies on reward signals, which shape the robots behavior over millions of simulated iterations. Designing an effective reward function is challenging because:Manual Reward Engineering is Slow Defining rules for ideal movement is time-consuming and requires countless trials.Human Bias Limits Optimization Manually designed rewards often favor human intuition rather than true optimality.Generalization is Difficult A handcrafted reward function designed for one robot in one environment may fail in another.Without efficient and scalable reward automation, humanoid robots remain constrained by static training methodologies.STRIDE: A Paradigm Shift in Humanoid Robotics TrainingOur framework, STRIDE (Structured Training and Reward Iterative Design Engine), automates the creation and optimization of reward functions, allowing humanoid robots to learn high-performance locomotion without human intervention. How STRIDE WorksLLM-Powered Reward Generation Using advanced large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4, STRIDE writes structured reward functions dynamically, eliminating the need for predefined templates.Iterative Feedback Optimization The framework continuously analyzes training outcomes and refines the reward function in a closed-loop manner.Scalable DRL Training With its optimized rewards, STRIDE trains robots to achieve sprint-level locomotion, surpassing traditional methods by over 250% in efficiency and task performance.By removing manual reward engineering, STRIDE accelerates training cycles, enhances generalization across different robotic morphologies, and pushes humanoid locomotion to new heights.Below is the STRIDE framework and please see the details in the paper. The Framework of STRIDEAcross diverse environments featuring humanoid robot morphologies, STRIDE outperforms the state-of-the-art reward design framework EUREKA, achieving an average improvement of round 250% in efficiency and task performance. Please see the comparisons between Stride and the SOTA Nvidia Eureka below:The comparisons between Stride and the SOTA EurekaYou can find more detailed results in the paper if you are interested. The Latest Advancements in Humanoid RoboticsRecent AI-powered humanoid robots have demonstrated stunning agility and dexterity, as seen in this recent YouTube showcase. Robots like Boston Dynamics Atlas and Teslas Optimus are proving that rapid advancements in AI, hardware, and control algorithms are making humanoid robots more viable in real-world settings.Notable breakthroughs include:Parkour and Dynamic Motion Atlas demonstrates advanced jumping, running, and climbing abilities using reinforcement learning and control optimizations.Dexterous Object Manipulation Optimus showcases fine motor control, picking up and handling objects with increasing precision.AI-Driven Adaptability Robots are beginning to self-correct and adjust to new environments without human reprogramming. However, these systems still require heavily engineered reward functions a limitation that STRIDE directly addresses. How STRIDE Outperforms Existing AI ModelsMost AI-driven humanoid robotics systems today rely on either:Manual reward design (slow and non-scalable), orHeuristic-based DRL training (lacking adaptability).STRIDE outperforms existing models in three key ways:1. Fully Automated Reward GenerationUnlike traditional methods requiring weeks of manual tuning, STRIDE leverages LLMs to generate high-quality reward functions instantly.2. Continuous Self-OptimizationWhereas previous DRL methods rely on fixed rewards, STRIDE dynamically refines rewards based on training results, leading to faster and more stable learning.3. Scalability Across Different MorphologiesSTRIDE-trained reward functions generalize across different humanoid designs, making it a plug-and-play solution for robotics researchers and engineers. The Future of AI-Powered RoboticsLooking ahead, STRIDE and similar frameworks will unlock next-generation humanoid robots capable of: Self-Learning and Adaptation Robots that can learn new skills autonomously with minimal retraining. Advanced Human-Robot Collaboration AI models that interact seamlessly with humans in daily tasks. Versatile Real-World Deployment Robots transitioning from controlled lab settings to unstructured environments (factories, disaster zones, homes). The Road AheadThe STRIDE framework is not just an improvement in AI training it is a transformational leap in the way we design, train, and deploy humanoid robots. By automating reward design, we eliminate a critical bottleneck, paving the way for AI-driven robots to move beyond rigid programming and towards true autonomy. As humanoid robotics advances at an unprecedented pace, AI-powered optimization frameworks like STRIDE will be the key to unlocking their full potential. • Score a Metallic PS5 DualSense Controller for the Lowest Price Ever
    www.ign.com
Lenovo has just dropped the price of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller to slightly lower than what we saw on Black Friday. Right now you can choose Sterling Silver, Volcanic Red, or Cobalt Blue for only $54 plus free shipping after you apply coupon code "PLAY5" in cart. This is probably going to be your last chance to get a DualSense controller at this price for quite a while, especially one that's decked out in a eye-catching metallic colorway.Sony PS5 DualSense Controller for $54Sterling SilverSony PS5 DualSense ControllerVolcanic RedSony PS5 DualSense ControllerCobalt BlueSony PS5 DualSense ControllerThe original PS5 DualSense controller is decked out in the same white color scheme as the console itself and retails for $69.99. Since then, Sony has consistently released more and more colors, some of them more striking than others. In late 2023, Sony launched the Deep Earth collection, "a new metallic colorway for PS5 accessories" with aptly sounding names like Sterling Silver, Volcanic Red, and Cobalt Blue. These controllers retailed for $79.99 and were (and still are) one of the more striking color schemes. We rarely see these on sale compared to the other colors.Color aside, the Dualsense is oft regarded as the best PS5 controller under $100. It also makes for an excellent controller for your PC. The DualSense is modeled after the tried and true design and layout of previous PlayStation controllers, but it also packs in modern features such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone and speaker, integrated touchpad, internal gyroscope and accelerometer for motion sensing, and USB Type-C charging.Alongside the DualSense, Sony also has the higher-end DualSense Edge. • Save 40% Off the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Dragon Edition Wireless Gaming Headset
    www.ign.com
SteelSeries is currently offering the Arctis Nova 7 Dragon Edition gaming headset for only $119.99 after an $80 off instant discount. The Destiny Edition is identical to the Nova Arctis 7 in build quality and performance, but with the addition of a deep red colorway with decorative gold dragon accents in celebration of 2024's Year of the Dragon motif. Even though 2024 has passed, this is still one of SteelSeries' classier designs that doesn't feel outdated or out of place.SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Gaming Headset Dragon EditionPS5, PCSteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gaming Headset Dragon EditionThe Arctis Nova 7 is one of the best headsets you can get for PS5 and PC. In his Nova 7 review, Matthew Adler wrote that "SteelSeries continues to push the boundaries of what a headset is capable of. With the addition of simultaneous Bluetooth audio, you can enjoy music, podcasts, or just chat with your friends without losing your game audio all with a single pair of headphones. The Arctis Nova 7s new design is sleek, lightweight, and still remains one of the most comfortable headsets Ive ever used." I own a pair of these myself and highly recommend it.The Nova 7 is the successor to the highly rated Arctis 7 series of headsets. It's every bit as good as its predecessor but with some welcome upgrades like a USB Type-C charging port, a longer battery life (38 hours vs. 30 hours), simultaneous wireless and Bluetooth connectivity, and multi-platform compatibility. PC gamers also have access to the SteelSeries GG app, which opens up a whole suite of customization for your audio. You can tailor your audio settings independently for each game. If that's too much for you, there are presets for specific games that are actually tailormade by the game developers. For PS5 gamers, the Nova 7 is also compatible with the PlayStation 5's Tempest 3D Audio. Why Should You Trust IGN's Deals Team?IGN's deals team has a combined 30+ years of experience finding the best discounts in gaming, tech, and just about every other category. • The most interesting thing about Apples most boring iPad Air ever
    9to5mac.com
Tim Cook summarized todays Apple product news in a succinct post on X that caused a bit of laughter across the internet: Introducing the newest iPad Air!The humor is in the fact that there really isnt much to say about the M3 iPad Air. Its just the newest one! However, there is something fascinating about the newest iPad Air! that isnt obvious but deserves attention. The most anyone can really say about the M3 iPad Air is that the optional keyboard case is a little different. Were down in the weeds when comparing the outgoing iPad Air accessories with the new stuff in a way that makes me start to nod off.At least the M2 iPad Air had something bigger going for it. Namely, that there was a bigger version of it. The M3 iPad Air, on the other hand, comes in the same colors with the same displays that use the same cameras and have the same storage tiers for the same price. The difference between the M2 chip and M3 chip arguably only appeals to people who should probably buy the M4 iPad Pro instead.Yet theres still something interesting happening with the M3 iPad Air launch thats rather odd.First, people are having strong reactions to the M3 iPad Air. The new iPad Air isnt even out yet, but the reviews are inThis is the most sad product announcement Ive ever seen in the history of Apple, says the top response to Tims Tuesday morning post. So.the same product youve been releasing for years? But, let me guess a small bump in processing power, slightly better camera, no real new features, but increased price, reads another reply.(For the record, the camera isnt even slightly better, nor has the price been increased.)Is this a joke? asks another responder. A fourth response actually describes the M3 iPad Air situation pretty well. Re-introducing the iPad Air from 2024, but with the M3 this time.I mean, pretty much not that theres anything wrong with that.Thats the thing about the M3 iPad Air. It replaces the M2 iPad Air that was only introduced last May. Less than a year on the market for an iPad Air model that replaced a model that stuck around for two years. Weird! But not bad!If all Apple did for a while was update each iPad with a one year newer chip, that really wouldnt be so bad. Boring? Arguably. But an annual update cadence is less boring than unpredictable iterative updates. The fact that the M3 iPad Air arrives just nine months after the M2 iPad Air is the most interesting thing about it to me. Im not sure you can call Apple lazy for that turnaround speed even if the colors and marketing image are unchanged. As an aside, I thought the same thing that Dan Moren wrote on Six Colors today about the choice to go with the M3 chip at all:The use of the M3 processor is also somewhat surprising, given that its based on an outdated manufacturing process that Apple has otherwise been aggressive about transitioning away from on the rest of its product line.In fact, I was fully prepared to write that Apple had completely discontinued the M3 chip by the end of the week. That would be based on my assumption that Apple will update the MacBook Air to the M4 chip, keep the M2 MacBook Air around to hit a price point (helping explain why it updated the base RAM to 16GB), and remove the M3 MacBook Air from its lineup.Instead, Apple actually added a new M3 device to the mix. I guess thats no stranger than introducing a new iPhone in 2025 without MagSafe or a new iPad without Apple Intelligence. During his appearance, he revealed that a Severance guest role in season twos premiere was originally offered to former President Barack Obama. In the Severance season two premiere, theres a stop-motion Lumon propaganda video that involves a talking Lumon building. Its previously been revealed that Keanu Reeves was the voice of the animated building. But now thanks to Ben Stiller, we know that one person was asked before Reeves.Who was it?President Barack Obama.Stiller tells the story of how he emailed the former president through his lawyer, then got a personal response:I get an email back from President Barack Obama saying, Hey Ben, big fan of the show. Love season one, cant wait for season two. Dont think I have time in my schedule to make this happen. It would have been quite the get for Severance to land President Obama for the part, however small it may be.As Stiller mentions though, perhaps he had more important things to do than voice an animated Lumon building. You can watch the full video below.Maybe President Obama will end up clearing some time for a cameo in season 3 of Severance, which is currently in the works. At a minimum, its fun to think hes just as tuned in as the rest of us.Did you know Keanu Reeves had voiced the Lumon building? • Man Removes Huge Letters Reading "#1 Hair Implants" From His Gold Cybertruck After Relentless Bullying
    futurism.com
He's trying to sell it.The owners of outrageous gold Cybertrucks have feelings too. Just ask Kumait Jaroje, who's still complaining that he's getting harassed for his gilded, $113,000 Tesla pickup truck, theNew York Timesreports. As if its glimmering exterior wasn't already enough of a head-turner, Jaroje used the Cybertruck to advertise his medical spa business, with giant letters reading "#1 HAIR TRANSPLANT" on the side of the car. At one point, he also flaunted a huge QR code on the bumper. But with anti-Elon Musk sentiment at a fever pitch, Jaroje, a Republican resident of Worcester, Massachusetts, says he's now removed the ads, reverting the truck back to its original, unvarnished gold."It got really, really bad after the inauguration," Jaroje told the NYT, saying that he filed a police report after receiving threatening phone messages at his business.Jaroje is a long-time Tesla enthusiast. He's been eyeing a Cybertruck since Musk first unveiled it back in 2019."The moment he broke the window, I reserved one," Jaroje told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette in October, referring to Musk's infamously botched stunt to prove that the windows were bulletproof. (Jaroje has since emphasized that he didn't buy the truck for political reasons, describing himself as a mix of conservative and liberal.)After finally having the long-delayed vehicle delivered to him, Jaroje and his golden truck have become somewhat of a local staple and laughingstock. But whatever the temper of his vehicle's initial reception by residents, it definitely seems to have soured, reflecting the wave of vandalism directed at Tesla cars across the world, in apparent acts of protest against Musk's role in the Trump administration.Last month, Jaroje told CBS News' WBZ-TV that he and his family were being harassed and jeered for owning the gold Cybertruck."Since getting our Cybertruck, we've faced constant hostility, " Jaroje wrote in a tweet last month. "Someone even put a Nazi sticker on our truck."The purported "Nazi sticker" said "Nazis fuck off" clearly alluding to Musk's double Sieg Hiel that he performed at Trump's inauguration celebration in January. With Tesla's image tanking by the day thanks to that kind of bullshit from its CEO, the backlash for owning the statement vehicle is no longer worth the hassle for Jaroje, who says he contacted the automaker to trade in his Cybertruck but without any luck. He now intends to sell the vehicle.More on Cybertruck: When Police Bought Teslas, It Blew Up in Their FacesShare This Article

Whether you're going on vacation, at work or wanting to keep an eye on nighttime activity, a 4K camera captures it all in the clearest view with great video quality. The best security cameras also offer more features like motion detection, remote access and two-way audio for communication when you're away. However, with countless home security cameras on the market -- each offering different features and capabilities -- picking the right one can be tough. After hours of testing dozens of top models, our experts have narrowed down the best ones with high video resolution options. TheLorex 4K Spotlight cam is our favorite, taking the spot as the best overall 4K camera thanks to its wireless design -- making it usable outdoors and indoors -- and it offers free object recognition and local storage without a subscription fee.Other recommendations include a 4K camera set from Arlo (which works with Apple), a more affordable indoor 4K cam from Eufy and other picks for your pixels that you won't want to miss out on. Plus, we'll explain what factors matter most when picking a security camera. And if you want even more options, check our other picks for outdoor cams and cameras with lights.Best home security cams with 4K resolution Photo Gallery 1/1 $150 at Lorex Pros Excellent 4K resolution on a standalone device Built-in spotlight Free object recognition 32GB of free onboard storage Indoor/outdoor design Cons You may need to upgrade the storage lots of 4K videos Power BatteryNight vision Color night visionMotion detection Yes, with person, animal, vehicle recognitionSmart home support Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant $150 at Lorex Lorex excels at higher-resolution security cameras that dont require a subscription. Like many others, this 4K cam offers free onboard storage and free objection recognition for people, animals and more. The wireless design is easy to mount indoors or outdoors with IP65 weather resistance, and the spotlight backs up the night vision for reactive lighting. There are also important features like two-way audio and compatibility with Alexa or Google Assistant. We also like that this is a fairly affordable standalone 4K camera. It can be difficult to find a 4K resolution on a single-device solution like this, but Lorex has some of the best options available. $250 at Arlo $450 at Amazon Arlo takes some of the top spots on our best camera lists thanks to its high-quality camera design and plethora of features, including two-way audio and color night vision. It also has the best smart home support on this list, one of the few 4K cameras that works with Apple HomeKit and Samsung SmartThings as well as Alexa and Google Home. The cams also have an incredible 180-degree field of view, so its easy to capture a large space. These 4K cams are usually available in a pack (think about putting one at the front door and one in the backyard or balcony), but that does have an advantage. The included hub allows you to use local storage if you prefer to stay off the cloud. However, an Arlo subscription (starting at $8 per month) also adds object recognition and other features, so we typically recommend it with cams like these. You can add more Ultra 2 cams to the hub if you want, or buy the hub and a cam separately to save money. $469 at Amazon $550 at Eufy Eufys two-cam pack can support cloud storage with a subscription, but the set also has expandable storage from 1TB to 16TB, so you can avoid subscription fees if youd prefer. But our favorite part is Eufys built-in solar panels. Place these battery cams where theyll catch a bit of sunlight, and theyll recharge their batteries over time, greatly cutting down on battery management.Eufy also offers object recognition including human, vehicles and pets. The hub also allows for more advanced facial recognition (differentiating between family members and strangers), a relatively new AI feature were seeing from brands like Nest and SimpliSafe as well. 8
