You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games hereBlizzards next Diablo 4 season has been delayed ever-so-slightly, once again causing a spike in players complaining about a lack of content. With new events and seasons coming to the game at regular intervals, head of Diablo Rod Fergusson wants to forget about players who rush through content and focus on players who only gave a few hours a day to play.Diablo 4 wont focus on blasters anymoreSpeaking to journalist Stephen Stephen Totilo at Game File (paywalled), the Fergusson explained that Diablo 4 players who rush through content are no longer the target. However, the series lead explained that there is a lot of personal pressure to feed so-called blasters who complain online.Theres a lot of pressure to feed the blasters, Fergusson told the journalist. The content creator whos an influencer or is a tastemaker will be out there saying, Theres nothing to do.Fergusson explained that this demand from players is the reason why the game is currently tuned very fast, a complaint that has been echoed by fans of slower ARPGs like Diablo 2. With this in mind, players who speed through content have been the focus on the game since launch, but slower players are being left behind. You start to worry a little bit, because, youre like, We have 12 weeks, 10 weeks. People need stuff to do, and if you can go through it this quickly You start to go: Okay, what can we be doing and how do I think about how fast this is?Then, literally this morning, my X thing goes off and I look at the notifications and its a person saying, Hey, I just wanted to tell you I love the current season. I only get to play three hours every weekend. Im actually making progress. It feels great. And Im like, Yeah, cant forget about those guys.Blizzards work on Diablo 4 is far from done. While the game wont be receiving annual expansions, more expansions are being planned and the game will continue to receive new seasons. With changes in release schedules to create less buggy updates, players should hopefully continue to be satisfied. For more Diablo coverage, read about creator David Breviks thoughts on why modern ARPGs fail to be as satisfying as classics. Why it matters: Donald Trump wants to kill off the Chips Act, the 2022 bipartisan law that is handing out $52.7 billion in subsidies to help bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the US. The President wants to use the money to pay the national debt instead. In his first address to the joint session of Congress since he returned as President, Trump blasted the Chips Act."Your Chips Act is a horrible, horrible thing. We give hundreds of billions of dollars and it doesn't mean a thing. They take our money and they don't spend it," Trump said."You should get rid of the Chips Act and whatever is left over, Mr. Speaker, you should use it to reduce debt."According to the Treasury Department, the US federal debt is over $36.2 trillion, 123% of the country's 2024 national income.Trump suggested that manufacturing companies would be incentivized to build facilities in the US to avoid the new tariffs he has introduced. "We don't have to give them money," Trump said.Yesterday, chip giant TSMC announced that it was increasing its investment in US chip manufacturing by an extra $100 billion, bringing the total to $165 billion. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Trump's tariffs have made the US a more attractive proposition when overseas firms are looking for locations to build manufacturing facilities. // Related StoriesTSMC's $6.6 billion grant awarded under the US Chips Act was finalized last November. Lutnick said the government was not planning on giving TSMC any new subsidies, despite it being eligible for a 25% manufacturing investment tax credit. The company said last month that it has already received $1.5 billion of the award. So far, the Chips act has announced approximately $32.5 billion in grant awards and up to $5.5 billion in loans to 32 companies across 48 projects in 23 states. In addition to TSMC, the biggest beneficiaries have been Intel ($8.5 billion), Samsung ($6.4 billion), Micron ($6.1 billion), and GlobalFoundries ($1.5 billion). Some in government have expressed concerns about Trump's plans, including New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who said the Chips act "is the reason Micron is bringing $100 billion and 50,000 jobs to Central New York. Trump just said he wants to get rid of it."Representative Greg Stanton said Trump's words were a "direct attack on Arizona's semiconductor industry and tens of thousands of Arizona workers."Reuters reported this week that approximately one-third of staff in the US Commerce Department office overseeing the allocation of Chips act money were laid off.The Chips (Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors) and Science Act was enacted in August 2022 with the aim of boosting domestic semiconductor manufacturing, research, and development. It was a response to the global chip crisis that hit during the pandemic, as well as China's persistent threat to Taiwan, which produces about 90% of the world's most advanced semiconductorsThe $52.7 billion the act is funding to support the semiconductor industry comes in the form of $39 billion in manufacturing incentives, including grants and loans, and $13.2 billion for research and development.

  • PlayStation reportedly enacts fresh wave of layoffs, with staff who worked on cancelled live-service games and Last of Us remaster support studio affected

More LayoffsPlayStation reportedly enacts fresh wave of layoffs, with staff who worked on cancelled live-service games and Last of Us remaster support studio affectedThe full scale of the cuts isn't clear as of writing.Image credit: VG247/Naughty Dog News by Mark Warren Senior Staff Writer Published on March 5, 2025 PlayStation is reportedly laying off more staff as part of restructuring of its US operations, with developers who worked on Bend Studio's cancelled live-service game and at the Visual Arts studio which provided support on the likes of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us remasters allegedly among those affected. This is according to a report from Kotaku, which claims that Visual Arts staff based in San Diego were informed earlier this week that their last day at Sony would be March 7, and cites a LinkedIn post from former Visual Arts project manager and current Riot Games senior lead producer Abby LeMaster. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. "It was tough waking up to messages that many friends and former coworkers from PSVA were laid off this morning," LeMaster wrote. "The layoffs today hit hard. PSVA let go of developers with decades of subject matter expertise; talent that will be extraordinarily difficult to recoup. This industry can be unpredictable, but the skill, experience, and passion of the people I worked with at PSVA are undeniable."She's since shared posts from Visual Arts developers stating that they're looking for new roles, with senior animator Kaitlyn Prestia, senior technical director Juan (Junior) Quiroz, senior material artist Lewis Labram, and animation supervisor Chris Clyde among these. The Kotaku report cites a source as having said that the cuts, which also include the likes of some staff who contributed to recently cancelled projects such as a live-service game which was in development at Days Gone developer Bend Studio, are "more widespread".To see this content please enable targeting cookies.VG247 has reached out to PlayStation/Sony for comment.PlayStation Studios Visual Arts recently worked with Naughty Dog on its Last of Us Parts I & II remasters, and typically provided support to the console maker's first-party studios. "I don't often post, in fact, I think this is my first post. So with sadness in my heart, I was part of the PSVA layoffs today," Labram's post about being let go reads. "I think the worst bit about this was this was the best job I have had to date, the dream team and the sick projects were outstandingly fun and I enjoyed every day."Just last month, PlayStation appeared to have let go of an unspecified number of staff from its software division, not long after announcing plans to fully integrate long-time subsidiary SN Systems.

  • Kevin Rose and Alexis Ohanian acquire Digg
    techcrunch.com
Heres a blast from the past: Digg, one of the webs early news aggregators, is now back under the ownership of original founder Kevin Rose. Notably, hes joined as co-owner by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian (both pictured above).Digg and Reddit were once fierce rivals in the online social news aggregation space, launching within a year of each other some two decades ago. The two platforms enjoyed similar trajectories in the intervening years, going through various owners and spin-offs. But Reddits endurance has been most notable, as the company finally went public last year in a bumper IPO and its user-growth has continued upwards in the following months. Digg, for its part, hasnt stood the test of time quite so well. The company was split into parts in 2012 and sold to incubator Betaworks, with LinkedIn and the Washington Post acquiring some of the assets. Digg later raised a strategic round of funding from USA Today owner Gannett, before landing in the hands of digital advertising company BuySellAds which acquired a majority stake in 2018. A fresh visionDigg never soared to the same heights as Reddit, which is why Rose and Ohanian have now joined forces to revive the platform with a fresh vision to restore the spirit of discovery and genuine community that made the early web a fun and exciting place to be, according to a press release issued today.DiggImage Credits:DiggRose says that he has been approached at various times through the years with a view toward buying Digg, noting that it never felt like the right time. So why now? Its a combination of reasons, according to Rose, who says that the existing social media landscape has become toxic, messy, and riddled with misinformation with AI well-placed to address that. Just recently weve hit an inflection point where AI can become a helpful co-pilot to users and moderators, not replacing human conversation, but rather augmenting it, allowing users to dig deeper, while at the same time removing a lot of the repetitive burden for community moderators, Rose said.Ohanian, for his part, has dipped in and out of Reddit through the years, originally leaving in 2009 before returning as chairman in 2014 and then stepping down from the board altogether in 2020. And just this week, Ohanian joined Frank McCourts bid to buy TikToks U.S. business. Online communities thrive when theres a balance between technology and human judgment, Ohanian said. Were bringing Digg back to ensure that balance exists. Kevin and I are here to build something better than what social platforms are offering today. AI should handle the grunt work in the background while humans focus on what they do best: building real connections. Both Rose and Ohanian have invested in other companies through the years, as individuals and through institutional funds. This experience has now intersected, with True Ventures, which counts Rose as a partner; and Ohanian-founded Seven Seven Six investing in Digg. While Rose will serve as Digg chairperson and advisor, and Ohanian will sit on the board, the new incarnation will be led by CEO Justin Mezzell, a longtime collaborator of Kevin Rose and seasoned product design leader, according to the press release..A new version of the Digg platform is touted for launch soon, with invites being rolled out in the coming weeks.

  • ARM to sign $250M chip deal with Malaysia
    techcrunch.com
Malaysia has become a hotspot for chip manufacturing due to increasing tensions between the U.S. and China, especially around the development of semiconductors used for AI applications. Predictably, tech firms around the world have been looking to diversify their source of chips, and ARM Holdings is now hoping to make the most of this opportunity. The SoftBank-backed chipmaker said on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with the Malaysian government to bolster the countrys chip design ecosystem. As part of the deal, Reuters reports that Malaysia will pay ARM $250 million over 10 years to buy its chip designs and technology for local manufacturers. Specifically, the country will buy IP, including seven of ARMs chip design blueprints, Reuters cited Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli as saying.ARM said the partnership will also see the company training 10,000 engineers in Malaysia on its technology.ARM declined to comment on the $250 investment from the Malaysian government. A representative of the Malaysian government did not respond to a request for comment ahead of publication. The move is the latest of Malaysias ongoing efforts to become a hub for chip manufacturing within the next decade. Earlier this year, Malaysia said it planned to manufacture its own GPUs to meet demand for AI and data centers. The Malaysian government said last May that it would set aside at least $5.3 billion in financial support and train 60,000 engineers for its National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), under which the country will seek to enhance its current infrastructure, develop an advanced chip supply chain, and attract top global clients.Malaysia has been involved in the chip industry for over 50 years, and currently provides about 13% of global chip testing, assembly, and packing services, according to a report by TrendForce that cited the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).In 1972, Intel established its first production facility outside the U.S. in Penang, Malaysia, investing $16 million in an assembly site. The U.S. chip giant in December 2021 said it would invest more than $7 billion to establish a chip assembly and testing factory in the country, and its also building its largest 3D chip packaging facility in Malaysia. GlobalFoundries, the U.S. chip company, also opened a new hub facility in Penang, Malaysia, in 2023, and Neways, a Dutch chip equipment maker, plans to build a new plant in Malaysia. In addition, a number of tech giants, including Google, Microsoft and Nvidia have announced billions of dollars in investments in Malaysia since 2023, primarily for data centers, AI development projects and cloud services.
