• Avengers Directors Are Open To Doomsday And Secret Wars Video Games
    www.gamespot.com
The next film from Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, The Electric State, is set to release on Netflix on March 14, and it'll be accompanied by a prequel video game. With the duo also set to direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, they were recently asked if they'd be interested in developing games for those films, something that the pair say they're potentially interested in, but they are currently prioritizing their other commitments. What makes this proposition interesting is that Fortnite creator Donald Mustard recently joined their media company AGBO--a partnership that the Russos say will allow them to tell new stories across transmedia projects."We would definitely be open to it," Joe Russo said to Variety. "Right now, what we're doing is creating new IP. At AGBO, we want to tell new stories. We want to tell new stories with new characters and new worlds that people haven't seen before. So Anthony and I and Donald are working together to build out new worlds. And we have three that we're currently working on that the intention is, for every world we build to have the scale and depth of a 'Star Wars' universe, but in a different genre. And then we'll build materials around those new worlds. We'll tell stories in different ways using different media in those worlds."While the Avengers have been in several video games over the decades, the last high-profile one published by Square Enix didn't reach the lofty heights that the company envisioned for the IP. Marvel's Avengers was released back in September 2020, and after the initial hype died down, the game quickly bled players as it was criticized for its anemic content and heavy focus on microtransactions. Support for the game was eventually pulled in late 2023 and it was digitally discontinued that year.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Assassin's Creed Shadows, which is set in Feudal Japan, will feature interpretations of both of these characters. The Assassin's Creed Shadowsteam's goal was to present nuanced portrayals of Nobunaga and Hanzo that honor their status as powerful samurai but also explore their deeper motivations and beliefs.

    gamedev.net
What's "The Adventures of Micah" without Micah's mom (Tina) and stepdad (Kyle)? It appears they're lost in a few mazes with only a limited time to be found. But to make a playable game, only one of them makes it out, which means...they have to go back into the maze and find the one who's still lost! That is for you to decide as you make your way through different paths, picking up collectibles and maybe stopping a monster or two along the way until the victim comes into clear view.

Weeks 2 and 3 have been bundled together, as I didnt get a whole lot done in week 2 due to personal reasons. After getting the basics of 2D map-making and tilemaps down, the next step was to begin work on the first zone/area, which was decided to be a grassy plains-type area. I used a different tilemap as opposed to the first one I used. Even though it's just temporary, it helps visualize the final outcome much more clearly. I started by drawing a rough layout for this area with plain old pe

  • Tekken: A PlayStation history
    blog.playstation.com
With Season 2 kicking off and the start of the Tekken World Tour right around the corner, 2025 looks like its going to be another amazing year for fans of Bandai Namcos legendary Tekken series. As one of the earliest fighting games on the original PlayStation, Tekken has a unique link to the consoles, with the series evolving its gameplay and narrative alongside the platforms. Lets take a look back at the saga of the Mishima family and all the havoc theyve caused throughout the years for PlayStation players.Play VideoBloodline beginningsThe original Tekken was one of the first fighting games to debut on the original PlayStation, launching in early 1995 in Japan and in fall elsewhere. Besides introducing the diabolical Mishima family and establishing many of the series base mechanics, such as the four-attack-button control scheme, Tekken also set a new high watermark for future home ports. Up until this point, players were used to home ports of arcade games compromising for weaker hardware with downgraded visuals and sound and missing content. However, since Tekkens arcade release was on advanced hardware very similar to the PlayStation, the port was arcade perfect. But Namco went the extra mile and added content not in the original: Ending movies, playable sub-boss characters, even a hidden unlockable character who would play a very big role in future gamesthat youd need to master Galaga as the game loaded to discover.View and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageView and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageView and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageTekken 2, which came to arcades in late 1995 surprised players by shifting the focus to the deposed patriarch and previous villain of the original Tekken, Heihachi Mishima, while also bringing in fresh faces Jun and Lei. It also introduced a wealth of additional characters that unlocked over time, encouraging players to come back and try out newly-debuted characters. In 1996, Namco brought the game to PlayStation with a port that was a marked improvement. Tekken 2s PlayStation-exclusive CG intro movie and endings were stunning and established the series reputation for high-quality cutscenes. It also added new gameplay modes: Team Battle, Time Attack, Survival Mode, and a Practice Mode. For many fans, Tekken 3 was their introduction to the series. It was both massively popular in arcades and a best-selling smash hit worldwide when it debuted on PlayStation in 1998. Moving the story ahead 20 years, the mantle of leading man switched to Jin Kazama, the son of Kazuya and Jun, and many returning characters were either older (though not always wiser) or replaced by a successor. New characters were introduced that would quickly become fan favorites going forwards, including Hwoarang, Bryan, Eddy, and Xiaoyu. To better take advantage of the 3D arenas, Tekken 3 added sidestep dodges for all characters to use. The PlayStation version added two gameplay modes: The sidescrolling beat-em-up style Tekken Force, and beloved party favorite Tekken Ball, as well as additional characters: Anna Williams, Dr. Bosconovich, and Tekkens first-ever guest character, the tiny dinosaur Gon.Vengeance, powered by Emotion EnginesWhen it came time to debut the PlayStation 2, it felt natural that a Tekken title would launch alongside it. Tekken Tag Tournament came to the console in 2000 with massively improved visuals over its arcade counterpart, showcasing the visual fidelity that players could come to expect from the PS2. TTT changed up combat the formula: rather than playing one character, youd form a team of two fighters and be able to swap between them in battle. The roster was also significantly expanded to contain a host of characters from across the series, including pre-story-timeskip characters. Finally, we got another wild mini-game in the form of Tekken Bowl.Tekken 4 would emerge a little over a year after TTTs PS2 debut, reintroducing Kazuya to the story and changing gameplay up quite a bit. Previously, all stages in Tekken had been infinite stages with no set boundaries. Tekken 4 switched things up by introducing stages with uneven ground, walls, and other obstacleswhich would bestow extra damage and combo opportunities when opponents were slammed against them. Movement was also adjusted, altering some popular movement strategies seen in T3 and TTT. Tekken 4 also emphasized the story to a greater degree than previous games: console additions were a full-fledged Story Mode as well as a greatly expanded Tekken Force sub-game.View and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageView and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageView and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageIt would take a few more years before Tekken 5 would step into the ring. Picking up directly where Tekken 4 left off, with Heihachi Mishima seemingly dead and Jins devil side more prominent, Tekken 5 would become a fan favorite. Namco dialed back some of the movement and stage design changes of Tekken 4 in response to player feedback. Asuka, Feng, and Raven joined the roster, along with the ability to customize characters with cosmetic items earned and bought in-game. The original Tekken 5 would see a PS2 port, where the boss Jinpachi was made playable and Jin Kazamas struggle took center stage in the action-based, story-driven Devil Within modealong with playable ports of the arcade Tekken 1, 2, and 3. This wouldnt be the last wed see of Tekken 5, however.Devils emerging from a CELLA 2006 arcade revision of Tekken 5, Dark Resurrection, would introduce players to combatants Lili and Dragunov, change up some visuals, and further fine-tune the gameplay. The first port of Dark Resurrection would actually come to the PSP in mid-2006, bringing with it the new Tekken Dojo mode, which let players share AI-controlled ghosts of their gameplay online for others to download and battle against. While the game was well received on PSP, players still wanted a console version, so some months later T5DR was made a downloadable game on the PlayStation Network. An update would follow in mid-2007 allowing for online matches to be played. To this day, T5DR is one of the most beloved Tekken titles among fans.Later that year, Tekken 6 would emerge in arcades, introducing new faces Bob, Zafina, Leo, and Miguel. Things were now getting wildly out of hand among the Mishimas, with Jin and Kazuya both in control of massive corporations waging all-out-war against each other and Heihachi unaccounted for. Bloodline Rebellion, a late 2008 update, would further complicate the family struggle by introducing Heihachis forgotten son Lars and weapon-wielding mecha-maiden Alisa to combat. Gameplay additions include the Rage mechanicwhere players deal more damage when at low lifeas well as the combo-extending Bound system and interactive background elements like breakable walls and floors.View and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageView and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageView and download imageDownload the imagecloseCloseDownload this imageThe PS3 version, based heavily on Bloodline Rebellion, released in 2009 and featured the biggest story mode yet in the form of Scenario Campaign. It followed the duo of Lars and Alisa as they lead a band of rebels against the Tekken Force and the Mishima Zaibatsu. Tekken 6 also released on the PSP, and while it lacked the Scenario Campaign, it did offer some of the best visuals on the platform and ad-hoc multiplayer. It would be a few years before Tekkens return, and in the meantime, Bandai-Namco released Tekken Hybrid in 2011. This set offered an HD remaster of Tekken Tag Tournament with an original CG film, Tekken: Blood Vengeance, and a demo of the then-new arcade title Tekken Tag Tournament 2. True to its title, TTT2 brought back the tag-match gameplay and expanded the selectable roster. The PS3 port, which launched in late 2012, added several legacy characters, a new stage and music track from famed musician Snoop Dogg, CG ending cinematics for the whole cast, and some additional cast members and character variants.Another interesting spin-off emerged after TTT2: Tekken Revolution, a free-to-play version of Tekken focused on online matches. By playing, players could earn in-game currency to unlock further characters, as well as use earned Skill Points to enhance character attributes. Tekken Revolution received frequent updates to add characters and gameplay features throughout its life, eventually ending service in 2017.The struggle continuesTekken 7 took its time coming to the PlayStation 4, finally reaching players in 2017, two years after its arcade release. During that time, arcade Tekken 7 received updatesincluding Fated Retribution, which famously brought Street Fighters Akuma into the roster. He wasnt alone, howeverLucky Chloe, Josie, Katarina, Claudio, and Shaheen all joined the fray as well, alongside several new stages and system changes. Taking into account some of the feedback from Tekken Revolution, T6s bounds were adjusted and reduced, being supplanted by new screw combo starters. The Rage system was further developed as well, creating new Rage Drive and Rage Art skills that could be used at low healthbut only once per round, and at the cost of Rages damage boost.Upon reaching the PS4, Tekken 7 received a console-exclusive, lengthy story modebut, perhaps more importantly, it was given a full slate of DLC updates for years afterwards, tweaking character skills and adding plenty of new stages, music, and characters over time. Besides re-introducing old favorites left out of the original roster, the Tekken 7 DLC also brought in new characters Leroy and Lidiaand, most memorably, several additional surprise guest characters: Geese Howard from Fatal Fury, Noctis from Final Fantasy XV, and Neegan from The Walking Dead.As Tekken 8 marked its first anniversary on PS5 this past January, fans can look forward to plenty of further surprises. Season 2 of DLC promises that even more new, beloved, and unexpected characters will be joining the roster, and the most recent free story update leaves off on a cliffhanger that promises yet more high-stakes inter-family drama between the Mishimas in the future.Play Video

  • Magics Commander format is changing. Heres what you need to know
    www.polygon.com
Ever since it emerged on Magic: The Gatherings professional tour in the early 2000s, the Commander format has been lovingly embraced by the games massive global community. So much so that today the publisher considers it to be the games most popular format. Walking the halls of MagicCon Chicago last month, the state of Commander was on just about everyones lips but not for the reasons that Wizards of the Coast game designers might have liked it to be. Big moves are being made within the beloved format, and fans inside the frigid McCormick Place Convention Center were among the first to grapple with those changes at scale. To mark the occasion, Polygon sat down with principal Magic designer Gavin Verhey to learn more about Commander Brackets, a new system for categorizing decks of cards, and to inquire about where the format is headed in the future. From its humble beginnings in Fairbanks, Alaska, to the back rooms of Magics highest-stakes tournaments and beyond, Commander a singleton format where players create 100-card decks around a central character has become the ultimate expression of a players dedication to the game. People get really attached to their decks, and for more than a decade a group of volunteers called the Commander Rules Committee kept things relatively balanced between them all, making rule changes and the occasional ban of a troublesome card. But in September of last year, following the ban of several high-powered and expensive cards, members of the Commander RC began to receive violent harassment, including death threats. Thats when the all-volunteer committee decided they wanted out.At the end of last year, Verhey said, the Commander Rules Committee handed the Commander format over to us. They trust us with it, [and] this is a great honor. The reason for that transition is fairly pragmatic: Wizards and its employees, part of multibillion-dollar game and toy manufacturer Hasbro, are much more hardened against modern-day forms of harassment than a small group of volunteers. But according to Verhey, the incident was also a sign that Wizards needed a different way to communicate with its audience. And, in turn, that audience needed better ways to communicate with each other.I know that Wizards has our backs [] in these kind of situations, Verhey said, but I also think that creating a better framework for what people can expect in the future will help temper a lot of that. The solution, now in beta after a lengthy blog post, is to divide Commander decks into one of five brackets and to encourage players to stay within that bracket when setting up friendlymultiplayer games. Most decks youd pick up on a store shelf can be found in bracket two, the Core bracket. The decks most players are likely to create on their own will fall into the first two brackets, which also include store-bought preconstructed Commander decks and even more exotic decks that you cobble together from just a few boxes of cards. According to Verhey, these are the brackets that will continue to make up most players experiences going forward. Its in the other three brackets Upgraded, Optimized, and CEDH where the sparks will really begin to fly.To help categorize decks within these three categories, and to help players communicate how powerful their decks truly are, Wizards concocted the Game Changers list. Also in beta alongside Commander Brackets, the Game Changers list comprises a subset of cards that dramatically impact Commander decks in significant ways. That includes decks whereby players can create infinite combos and runaway resource-building engines; deploy cards that can entirely block another players turn; or utilize abilities that allow the player to search through their deck at will. Among their number youll find classics like Rhystic Study and Gaeas Cradle, but also newer cards like The One Ring. Bracket three, Upgraded decks, can have up to three of these cards, while brackets four and five are by and large unrestricted.Ideally, Verhey said, the cards banned at the end of last year would have first shown up on the Game Changers list not merely banned outright.Part of the idea [is that the] Game Changer [could serve as] a watch list, Verhey said. These are just some cards that could potentially be targets in the future for a ban, where people would get riled up.The plan for now is to monitor player feedback and see how the Game Changers list as written stands up to brewers making their own decks at home. Later on, once things stabilize, Verhey thinks that some banned cards could even be reintroduced but hes not making any promises. Were going to come back in late April with feedback from the beta, Verhey said. [Thats when we could] make any tweaks to the system, or launch it out of beta. And potentially, at that point, we could be unbanning cards if we chose to.Just as in creating a good Commander deck, Verhey stressed, intent is important. And thats why this period of testing and collaboration is so key.I think good communication with the community is important, Verhey said. We want to set up regular check-ins [] maybe every quarter, maybe twice a year. [] So even if a decision is made you dont agree with, you dont feel like its out of left field.Of course, doesnt the introduction of Commander Brackets also open up the design space for Wizards to create new kinds of preconstructed decks for retail? Verhey said it could, but that its not the true intent of creating the framework.I call it a stretch goal, I guess, Verhey said. If [Commander Brackets are] adopted and really loved by the community, we could start doing stuff on the product side. Imagine a set, like the upcoming Edge of Eternities, launching with a slate of bracket one or two decks that rely on classic science fiction tropes. Then, perhaps later in the year, something like the upcoming Final Fantasy set might launch with more powerful bracket four or bracket five decks. That wont be happening, Verhey said, since those sets were literally designed years ago at this point. But the potential is there.I could [] imagine a world where, in the future [were saying], Hey, these are bracket level four decks. These are really strong precons. These are going to hit really hard, Verhey mused. Its something a little different, [and] potentially, we could do that. But right now the goal is to bring back stability, and to show that Wizards has a calm hand on the rudder of the beloved, fan-created format. Only later, once the dust has settled and more sets enter preproduction, will the team consider exercising any stretch goals they have in mind. For more details on how Commander Brackets work in practice, see the official Magic: The Gathering website and look out for the next big blog post in April right around the release of Tarkir: Dragonstorm.

  • Where to find sandstars in Monster Hunter Wilds
    www.polygon.com
Sandstars are a special (and especially cute) kind of endemic life in Monster Hunter Wilds. Youll need to capture one as part of a side quest, Samins Special Research Report, for Samin at the Windward Plains base camp late in the game (after the credits and during the High Rank section). This is the sixth and final side quest in Dareel and Samins ongoing feud youve already caught a tracktail lizard, dapperwing, ember rufflizard, rime beetle, and gillopod. Now, you need a sandstar. Our Monster Hunter Wilds guide will tell you when and where to find sandstars and how to catch them.Where to find sandstars in Monster Hunter WildsSandstars are only found in the Windward Plains and only at nighttime during a plenty. The other clue about their location is in the name youre looking for sandy areas. Head to the pop-up camp at Area 13: Oasis. Sandstars seem more likely to spawn along the north edge of the dunes surrounding that camp.Youll probably have to do a lot of running around to track one down. Theyre easy enough to spot since they glow, but their spawn rate is really low it took us three full nights to find and catch one.If you get frustrated (you will get frustrated), ride toward another numbered area or fast travel away from the oasis. Heading northeast toward Area 12 is a good plan since there just so happens to be some baunos that way (more on them in a second). Once youre out of sight of the dunes, turn around and head back. There does not seem to be a consistent way to force a sandstar to spawn, so just keep at it.Before you go chasing them, though, youve got one extra step. How to make screamer pods in Monster Hunter WildsIf you talk to Samin again after he assigns you the side mission, hell give you a little more information. Specifically, that they have large ears and are sensitive to noise.Thats your clue that you need a screamer pod. You can snag these from a baunos small monster with your hook slinger. (Technically, you collect an echo feather that automatically becomes a screamer pod). Screamer pods are one of the temporary slinger ammos that you can only pick up in the wild and cannot craft. To find them, open your map and hit right on the D-pad two times to pull up the icon filter. Scroll down to baunos and then use left and right on the D-pad to cycle through their locations. If you do this earlier in the day and then rest at a camp, youll still have the screamer pods at nighttime. How to catch a sandstar in Monster Hunter WildsAs youre approaching a sandstar, the stealth bonus from the ghillie mantle does seem to make it easier to get close, but dont quote us on that.Make sure youve got a screamer pod equipped on your slinger. You dont have to be too precise with your targeting here, so close enough works. Hit it with a screamer pod to stun it.Once its stunned, itll roll on the ground for a minute. Quickly equip your capture net either from the item bar or from your Essential Items radial menu. You have to be very quick with that part, though, since they dont stay stunned for long. With the new rectangle reticle, aim until the reticle turns yellow-orange and fire it. Just make sure you hit L2/LT and not the usual Square/X. Aim a little high for this shot it sucks to miss it when theyre so hard to find.Report back to Samin with your hard-earned prize to complete the side mission. Youll also get the I Caught a Shooting Star! achievement or trophy. To also help you understand Monster Hunter Wilds, we explain how to capture monsters, how to change weapons, provide some Seikret tips, and teach you how fishing and layered armor works.

Nerikomi is a Japanese pottery technique that involves combining layers of colored clay to produce distinct patterns. Jessica Rust, having immersed herself in the world of Nerikomi for five years, presents the Limn collection. Featuring lighting, a drink table, and vases all built by hand, this collection considers craft synonymous with high art.Limn Vast TallThe Limn Vase, available in short, tall, or fat, explores the unique color variations that are produced through the Nerikomi process. Alike to threads in a loom, the natural variations and thicknesses of the clay produce striations in color, blown brilliantly into their final color in the kiln. These vases, no two alike and taking weeks to complete, celebrate the organic nature of humane creation.Limn Vase FatLimn Triangle LampLighting also central to the collection, the Limn Triangle Lamp makes a bold statement with the longer slabbed Nerikomi work on the bottom, descending into smaller slabs as we travel up the piece. The Limn Drink Table, a favorite of Rusts, is tall, vibrant, and circular, blending angular vertices with rounded solidity. When I combined that with my take on Nerikomi, something unexpected and exciting emerged. Each piece has patterns that flow through the entire form its not just surface decoration, its part of the DNA.Limn Drink TableLimn Drink TableJessica Rust, of Rust Designs, is unafraid to embrace the meditative, allowing the organic nature of the clay to speak for itself.
