Until Dawn Remake Developer Is Reportedly "Effectively Closed" Five Months After Game LaunchA few months after the remake of the 2015 interactive drama horror game Until Dawn had a lukewarm launch on PC and PS5, Ballistic Moon, the UK-based studio behind the game, is said to be"effectively closed" right now.In September last year, before the game's launch, around 40 employees were laid off, with the rest staying to support the game's post-launch updates and development. However, in December, another round of layoffs occurred quietly, with around 20 people losing their jobs.According to various sources of Insider Gaming, only the studio's founders, together with "possibly" a handful of employees "at most," remain. Departments such as public relations, marketing, or even development have no employees. This has led to the game actually being without any support right now. According to one source, players' reported bugs and issues go unanswered. This echoes the chart on LinkedIn showing that the studio, which was founded in 2019, has around a dozen developers in March, a huge drop compared with nearly 80 around June of last year, which was the peak of the past year. The owners have been trying their best to revert the situation, actively seeking funding and pitching projects, but there was no luck. Sony, the game's publisher, who once said that they "might greenlight more funding for updates" after the game's launch, seemingly didn't grant them. When talking about the work conditions in the studio, most of the sources said that "it was a generally good place to work" except for working overtime without getting paid occasionally.

  • Another Analyst Thinks GTA 6 Will Cost $100, But Should We Believe Him?
    cgshares.com
Following Matthew Balls report that big-league AAA game studios hope Rockstar and Take-Two price the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI at $100 to set a precedent that would allow them to hike prices for their own games with clear conscience, another industry analyst now predicts the next GTA installment wont settle for the industry-standard $70 and will include incentives for buyers to spend triple-digit sums on the game.RockstarThats according to Managing Director of Equity Research at Wedbush Securities Michael Pachter, who, in his latest research note seen by VGC, stated that they have reasons to believe GTA 6 could be priced at $100 or more.In the report, Pachter suggested that integrating GTA Online into the game could help Rockstar justify the price increase, similar to how Activision handled Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty Mobile ahead of the annual Call of Duty premium release. As an additional incentive, the developers could offer players a large amount of in-game currency for GTA Online, making the price increase seem less outrageous to buyers. We think the company has plans to sell the game at a previously unheard of price point, and suspect that management can offer consumers an incentive to pay $100 or more per unit by rewarding them with a large amount of in-game currency to be spent in GTA Online, the note reads. There is precedent for integrating an online game experience with a premium game, as Activision did so with both Call of Duty Warzone and Call of Duty Mobile content prior to the release of its annual Call of Duty premium installment. In Activisions case, the integration led to a 40% increase in sales of Call of Duty premium; in Take-Twos case, we think a successful integration of GTA Online and GTA VI can lead to a $100 price point for the premium gameWhile speculation and the will-they-wont-they debate surrounding GTA 6s price have been a major discussion topic online for the past couple of months not surprisingly given that the game is perhaps the most anticipated title currently on the market there are reasons not to add this particular prediction to the list of arguments supporting the idea of a potential price hike, considering the history of the individual who has made it.While Pachter has been an analyst for longer than many of us have been alive since at least 1982, according to his LinkedIn historically, his track record for predictions has been more akin to a coin flip, slightly weighted toward the wrong side.Over the years, he has certainly proven hes no Nostradamus, making claims such as Nintendo and Sonys business models being inferior to Xboxs, that the late Satoru Iwata should have been ousted from his position as Nintendos CEO in 2013, and that PlayStation had no chance of competing with Xbox. His past predictions also include the PS3/Xbox 360 being the last console generation, that Nintendo should ditch Switch, The Elder Scrolls 6 releasing in 2017, and Xbox One outselling PlayStation 4 just to name a few.Regarding Grand Theft Auto future-telling in particular, Pachter is also on record for being off the mark, having predicted in 2009 that GTA 5 would launch in 2010 or 2011. While not directly related to the gaming industry, the analysts success rank on TipRanks a platform that helps investors make better decisions stands at 43%, with a rating of 0.26/5, further calling his authority into question. Ultimately, whether to take Pachters latest research note seriously is for each person to decide for themselves, but using it as an argument in an online debate is definitely not recommended.Dont forget to join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Another Analyst Thinks GTA 6 Will Cost $100, But Should We Believe Him? appeared first on CG SHARES.

  • The Developer Of Until Dawn's PS5 Remake Is "Effectively Closed" - Report
    www.gamespot.com
Ballistic Moon, the studio behind the PC and PS5 remake of Until Dawn released last year, is now "effectively closed" after failing to find a publisher for its next game.A new report from Insider Gaming reveals that only the studio founders and a handful of others potentially remain employed there at this point. The studio reportedly couldn't find funding for its next game, and Sony didn't give the studio any support for future work on the Until Dawn franchise. Ballistic Moon has yet to comment on this situation.Ballistic Moon is a U.K. developer founded in 2020 by industry veterans from studios like EA and Supermassive Games. So far, Ballistic Moon's only game is 2024's remake of Until Dawn, which brought the beloved PS4 choose-your-own-adventure horror adventure game to Unreal Engine 5. It featured a recomposed musical score, changed the gameplay camera to a third-person perspective rather than a fixed-camera one, and added a post-credit scene teasing a sequel. It received a lukewarm reception compared to the original.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune & Dunan Unification Wars Review
    www.gamespot.com
Before Final Fantasy VII took RPGs as a whole into the mainstream, Suikoden made its mark as one of the first quality role-playing titles released outside of Japan on PlayStation. The game's main conceit was based loosely on the Chinese literary classic The Water Margin: A young outcast and his friends gather up companions to form the 108 Stars of Destiny, building a magnificent rebel outpost and eventually toppling a wicked empire. Suikoden's success would inspire multiple sequels, including immediate follow-up Suikoden II, regarded by many as a shining gem in the PS1's RPG library. With fame and acclaim, however, comes a price tag: Original copies of Suikoden II run in the hundreds of dollars, and that's even with several well-known, game-breaking bugs that were inadvertently introduced in the English version. Here's where Konami seemingly swoops in to the rescue, offering both Suikoden I and II together for a low price and promising beautiful new HD graphics and bonus features. This was announced back in 2022, and now, two and a half years later due to delays, we finally have Suikoden I&II HD Remaster--and I'm left wondering just how all that time this remaster spent cooking in the oven was spent.First, let's talk a bit about the games themselves. I first played both of these titles back on the PS1 many years ago. The original Suikoden was the game I was most excited to revisit, as it had been well over two decades since I'd last played it, and I'd forgotten so much about it. I was pleased to rediscover a pleasant, breezy RPG with a fast-paced story, smooth turn-based combat, and a charming sense of humor. It's quite short, and with the lack of load times and addition of battle speed-up options, you can easily finish it in around 15-20 hours doing all of the optional content.Continue Reading at GameSpot
