BIG Unveils Design for Gelephu International Airport, Showcased at Venice Biennale 2025Save this picture!Gelephu Airport. Image BIGBIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) has unveiled plans for Bhutan's Gelephu International Airport, a project that aims to combine traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. As the country's second international airport, it is a key component of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) masterplan, designed to accommodate future growth while reflecting Bhutan's cultural and environmental values. The airport's architectural design, developed in collaboration with Arup, Cistri, and aviation engineering firm NACO, features a modular diagrid structure crafted from locally sourced glulam timber. Traditional Bhutanese woodcarvings and painted faades take inspiration from the "Kachen," a revered wooden pillar in Bhutanese architecture, symbolizing both structural integrity and spiritual significance. The facility is designed for expansion, with independent timber frames that allow for disassembly and extension as needed.Save this picture!Strategically positioned near the Bhutan-India border and the Paitha River, the airport spans 68,000 m and is expected to handle up to 1.3 million passengers annually by 2040, with projections increasing to 5.5 million by 2065. With a capacity of 123 flights per day, the airport is intended to serve as a key aviation hub for the GMC, aligning with Bhutan's long-term development goals. Related Article BIG Unveils Gelephu's 'Mindfulness City': Bridging Bhutan's Heritage and Future The project will be featured at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, where an exhibition will showcase a timber diamond piece reflecting the airport's faade. The installation, sculpted in real time by both a Bhutanese artist and a machine, highlights the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and technological innovation.Furthermore, BIG has prioritized environmental considerations are in the airport's design. Bhutan, recognized for its carbon-negative status, has incorporated sustainable building practices, including photovoltaic panels on the roof, passive climate-responsive elements, and extended eaves to provide shade and weather protection. The wooden structure naturally regulates humidity, while courtyards and ventilated roofs encourage natural airflow.Save this picture! The terminal layout is designed to enhance passenger experience with clear wayfinding, intuitive circulation, and ample natural light. The Forest Spine, a central courtyard within the terminal, brings Bhutan's biodiversity into the airport, with green spaces, indigenous flora, and a treetop walkway providing travelers with a connection to nature. Indoor and outdoor lounges will offer spaces for relaxation, meditation, and wellness activities.Save this picture!Transportation accessibility is also a key feature, with the airport set to become Bhutan's first in-land mobility hub. It will integrate public transportation options such as trackless trams and buses, facilitating connectivity to Gelephu's revitalized town center and other regions of the country. Gelephu International Airport is expected to open in 2029, establishing itself as a gateway to Bhutan that balances cultural heritage with forward-thinking infrastructure.BIG has been involved in numerous architectural developments worldwide, including the recently unveiled design for Kosovo's first opera house, featuring an undulating photovoltaic roof that integrates renewable energy while serving as a cultural landmark. Additionally, the firm won a competition for the new Sankt Lukas Hospice and Lukashuset in Denmark, a project designed to create a comforting and homely atmosphere for patients and their families. In an Architecture Now feature, it was announced that BIG is also behind the design for the Mandarin Oriental Residences in Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Cultural District, consisting of two stepped residential blocks positioned to offer views of institutions such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the future Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.Save this picture!Image gallerySee allShow lessAbout this authorNour FakharanyAuthorCite: Nour Fakharany. From Micro to Spacious: Maximazing Space in Taiwans Urban ApartmentsSave this picture! The Lego Play Pond Living room. Image Hey!CheeseDespite its small size, the island of Taiwan is densely populated, with more than 80% of its people living in urban areas. Available space is often limited, particularly in major cities like Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. Therefore, designers face the ongoing challenge of creating interiors that feel spacious, functional, and visually appealing despite their sometimes compact footprints. Rather than seeing these limitations as constraints, architects embrace them as opportunities to experiment with smart layouts and multi-functional furniture that enhances livability. From sleek, built-in mezzanines in micro-apartments to colorful, Lego-inspired units, Taiwan's residential interiors demonstrate an ability to adapt. Their spaces are defined by a clever use of clean lines and a strong connection to natural light. Making homes feel open, bright, and well-crafted, while every square meter is used efficiently. This article will explore different approaches to apartment interiors through the works of 5 design firms, classifying them by square footage: A Little Design, 2Books Design, Hao Design, InOrder Studio and The Creative Group.Read on to discover 11 projects that showcase Taiwan's take on residential interior design. Related Article Micro Living in China: Tiny Houses as an Innovative Design Solution Small Apartments: 50 m2 or lessIn compact apartments, verticality is key to maximizing space. A common solution is raising the floor to create a half-level, often serving as a bedroom or sleeping nook, while utilizing the space below for a kitchen, TV area, or small office. This multi-level approach adds depth, while making the layout feel more dynamic. Additionally, the elevation creates the illusion of higher ceilings, making the apartment feel larger than it actually is. 22m2 Apartment in Taiwan / A Little Design Save this picture!Wang Residence / 2BOOKS DESIGNSave this picture!Block Village / HAO DesignSave this picture!IT's House / 2BOOKS designSave this picture!Medium Apartments: 50 - 100 m2At this range, apartments benefit from dedicated living areas, integrated storage, and flexible layouts that balance comfort and efficiency. This Counter-Strike 2 Tarp Has 100K PolygonsSometimes game developers make decisions that baffle players and other creators. Counter-Strike 2 is one of the latest targets of people's eagle eyes. Valve fan and CS2 content creator @gabefollower noticed a peculiar detail on the new Cache map: a tarp that looks simple enough but actually has 100,000 polygons a bizarre view and quite unnecessary since more polygons usually means worse performance. However, some X/Twitter users pointed out that this is tessellation and not Valve's attempt at wasting time on complicated shapes."Tessellation is a method of breaking down polygons into finer pieces. In DirectX, tessellation is a technique that allows you to generate primitives (triangles, lines, points, and such) on the graphics card. Specifically, it lets you repeatedly subdivide the current geometry into a finer mesh. This allows you to load a relatively coarse mesh on your graphics card, generate more vertices and triangles dynamically and then have a mesh on the screen that looks much smoother."This is far from the first time we see a simple form containing tons of parts. Do you remember the mesh topology of Pyramid Head's helmet from Silent Hill 2 Remake? And the toothbrush with over 5,000 faces in Yandere Simulator? What's next? We'll find that the iconic low-poly grapes from Final Fantasy 14 secretly have more geometry than everything else in the game?

  • Blenders Ultimate All-In-One Free Baking Add-On
    cgshares.com
Ghislain Girardot, renowned for his fantastic Unreal Engine 5 tutorials, has unveiled his latest project in progress, now developed for Blender. This free add-on aims to pack all baking techniques commonly used in the video game industry. In the demo above, the developer demonstrates its functionality with Vertex Animation Textures, which can be generated from static mesh sequences or animation data (such as keyframes, armatures, shape keys, etc.) with only one additional UV map. The tool supports baking multiple objects, all modifiers, and animation retargeting from high-res to low-res meshes.Vertex data, including offset and normal, can be packed using several methods. One method packs each frame into a line of pixels, making animation straightforward to implement in shaders. This method also allows frame interpolation to be handled free through pixel interpolation, but the vertex count must not exceed the texture width.Another packing method allows arbitrary vertex count and vertex data per line of pixels, ensuring you can create power-of-two textures. However, this method is more complex and costly to implement in shaders, and frame interpolation needs to be manually implemented. The baked data can be previewed in Blender, and meshes and textures can be automatically exported along with an XML file containing all relevant data. Currently, Ghislain is working on a UE5 Python script to automate the import of meshes and textures. The ultimate goal is to create a user-friendly, one-click solution for exporting to all game engines.Ghislain revealed that this tool will feature an enhanced version of his original Data Baker add-on, which has previously been an exclusive Patreon reward. This will allow you to bake pivots, axes, hierarchy, and various other data to UVs and vertex colors. The tool is also expected to include support for Pivot Painter, Object Animation Texture, Bone Animation Texture, and other game development-related tools in the near future.Additionally, the developer is making sure that it isnt exclusive to Unreal Engine 5, meaning it will also support OpenGL UV coordinates and other world coordinate systems. We highly recommend following Ghislain Girardot on X/Twitter for the latest updates and join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us on Instagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Blenders Ultimate All-In-One Free Baking Add-On appeared first on CG SHARES.
