Ex Nintendo Marketer Recalls The First Zelda Commercial In North AmericaGail Tilden, the former marketing mastermind of Nintendo America, who joined the Japanese gaming giant in 1983 as their first marketing employee, shared an interesting story about the first Zelda commercial in North America. In the latest episode of the Video Game History Hour podcast, she recalled how such a crazy TV commercial was born. The pitch from the agent was to have a stand-up comedian talking about the interesting things about the game. Her team, which was only three or four people at that time, pictured "a guy standing at a mic in a spotlight," which sounded like a cool concept, so they all agreed with it.However, what happened on the shooting day was unexpected and quite the opposite. When she arrived at the scene, seeing John Kassir, an American actor and comedian, in a dark, padded cell and screaming out the names of Princess Zelda and various enemies from the game, she was like, "This, I cant go through this, because this is not what we agreed to."More communication needed to be done here, so she called the agency, who surprisingly said, "Go ahead." It was probably because Tilden was already there. What happened next was that the ad was published, and it may be one of the biggest marketing disasters. If you look at the comments under the commercial's video posted 15 years ago, many were questioning what Nintendo was thinking for such an ad. The creepy screams and gloomy looks made no sense to some when they watched as a kid and still don't do many years later.

  • Demo Of A Game Based On George Orwells Iconic Novel 1984 Reappeared
    cgshares.com
Recently, a video nearly nine minutes long made a game from over a quarter-century ago resurfaced. This game is no other, but one that is based on George Orwells iconic dystopian novel, 1984.The video, which was uploaded by ShedTroll on March 1, showcases the gameplay of this first-person game called Big Brother. The development of the project started in 1996 when the newly set-up developer MediaX wanted to immerse players in a world inspired by Orwells novel. The demo features authentic retro graphics, as it was made around 1999, 50 years after the novel was published. In this game, players take on the role of the protagonist named Eric Blair, which is a nod to Orwells real name, Eric Arthur Blair. Nancy Poertner, President of MediaX, talked about the games idea in an interview with a magazine called GameWEEK (thanks, Polygon).Big Brother is an interactive adventure game with role-playing elements. The player interacts with different characters, enemies, and puzzles on their quest to find and join the Hacker Underground who are a group intent on overthrowing Big Brother the all-powerful mythic dictator. The interview also mentioned that the game would combine the detail of puzzle adventure Riven into the real-time world of Quake, making it a unique and stimulating gaming experience that will appeal to all gamers. When the game was showcased at E3 in 1998, it received lots of attention. Per the original plan, it would be released in September 1999 and priced at $30. However, the project ran into some trouble and got canceled, probably in late 1999 or 2000. Its unlikely for us to figure out what happened then, but it was said that it was related to financial difficulties or the license had expired before the game was done. Now, thanks to the Internet Archive, we have a chance to jump on the time machine to revisit this forgotten gem. According to ShedTroll, a larger video will be uploaded soon.Join our 80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Demo Of A Game Based On George Orwells Iconic Novel 1984 Reappeared appeared first on CG SHARES.

  • Respawn Shuts Down Its Unannounced Multiplayer FPS, Possibly a New Titanfall
    cgshares.com
If youre among the many Titanfall fans eagerly awaiting any news about Titanfall 3 or any game within the universe it looks like youll have to wait a while longer, as new evidence suggests that series creator Respawn Entertainment has canceled one of its upcoming projects, which could very well have been a new Titanfall game.RespawnThe evidence comes from a now-deleted LinkedIn post by former Respawn Product Coordinator Emilee Evans, first discovered by The Game Post, revealing that she was laid off following the cancellation of the studios incubation project, which hasnt been formally announced. The unannounced incubation project I was a part of for the past year was canceled this week, so I am joining the group of extremely talented and kind people in the games industry searching for a new role, Evans wrote in her post. With the project itself kept tightly under wraps a notion reaffirmed by Evans quickly deleting her post the only piece of information regarding it was a job posting from May 2024, suggesting that the incubation project was a multiplayer first-person shooter. This, along with reports from March last year, led many to believe that the project was the rumored Titanfall game, possibly Titanfall 3, but more likely a spin-off set in the same universe. The 80 Level team has reached out to Respawn for clarification on the projects fate, but given the level of secrecy surrounding it, an answer may not come anytime soon.If true, the projects shutdown would continue the disheartening trend of AAA studios canceling their games before they were even announced to the public. Just last week, Wizards of the Coasts Skeleton Key scrapped its work-in-progress title, while The Callisto Protocol developer Striking Distance Studios laid off most of its developers, leaving the current status of its unannounced project unknown. Prior to that, Sony shut down two unannounced live-service games in development at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, including one allegedly set in the God of War universe.Dont forgetto join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Respawn Shuts Down Its Unannounced Multiplayer FPS, Possibly a New Titanfall appeared first on CG SHARES.
