• We're getting rid of our Tesla — and Elon Musk's politics have nothing to do with it

I'm not a car person and could drive whatever, but my husband loves cars. After doing tons of research, he decided we needed a Tesla Model Y.Insuring it is very expensive, so we are selling it and looking for a hybrid.Admittedly, I've never been a car person. If it was up to me, I'd still be driving the 1979 Monte Carlo I learned to drive in. That behemoth had a red-faded-to-pink interior, and I could easily cram all my friends and our cheerleading gear into the back. But alas, I married a car guy. If he sees a car's headlights or taillights from a block away, he can name the make, model, and current value on the Kelley Blue Book. He'd been dreaming of a Tesla for years since he took a road trip in a friend's Model S. "It's so fast and sleek. And there's so much storage because there's no engine," he crooned. As Teslas became more popular, it became like our family's version of the Slug Bug game. "There's a Tesla!" our sons would cry from the back of our Nissan Pathfinder. We bought a Model YAs more electric vehicles entered the market, we decided to join the club. So, my husband did what he does best research. After considering Rivians and Polestars, he landed on the Tesla Model Y.It had a decent range and a great charging infrastructure. Most of our driving was done inside the city, but we did take occasional road trips to visit family in Iowa or up north for a family vacation. It also had the needed storage capacity for our family of four, our dog, and luggage for a week away. When we took our first test drive, I also fell in love with the Model Y.I learned to love itLearning to drive the Tesla came with a learning curve. On our first longer road trip, my husband and I experienced a tense 30 miles because we didn't stop to charge when the car told us to. We did the math and figured we could make it to our destination. We did make it after we turned off the air conditioning and radio and slowed to 40 miles per hour on the interstate to save battery. Luckily, our marriage survived. Needless to say, we always stopped to charge after that.It also took some practice with one-pedal driving, but I soon loved it. I also enjoyed the acceleration in my Model Y, resulting in my first speeding ticket since 1999. I'm sure the bright red color made me an easy target. While it was sometimes annoying to stop for a charge on a road trip, we got used to the slight inconvenience and used the time to go for a short walk, peruse strange convenience store wares, and play silly car games.Soon we discovered a major drawbackWhen we saw the final insurance quote, we thought there had to be a mistake. But no it really was going to cost almost as much as our monthly grocery bill.We knew our insurance premiums would be high because we have two young adult son drivers, but we had no idea adding a Tesla would be sell-a-kidney expensive.Electric cars generally cost more to insure than gas vehicles, and Teslas have some of the highest premiums. With our current policy, the Tesla costs over $333 a month, while our gas-powered Audi costs half that. We've since learned that Teslas are outrageously expensive to insure because they're costly to repair, and the company corners the market on parts. Because the repair process can take a long time, insurance companies are stuck footing the bill for longer-term rentals. We also learned that because Teslas drive so incredibly fast, their insurance risk rating is just below that of a performance vehicle.Of course, we've also had several conversations about theMusk controversy, but at the end of the day, our pocketbook and family needs dictate the decision to sell our Tesla this spring. Now we're shopping for a plug-in hybridThese are all factors we had no idea we should consider before we made our purchase, but they are definitely on my husband's new list as he researches our next vehicle. Now we're in the market for a plug-in hybrid, as they are a fraction of the price to insure and offer many of the same environmental and cost benefits we enjoyed with our Tesla especially since most of our driving is within a few miles of our city home.I'm still not a car person. So while my husband dives into research on plug-in hybrids, I'll be here, hoping our next car is just as easy to drive, cheap to insure, and if I'm really lucky comes in a color that doesn't result in a speeding ticket. I may never get my Monte Carlo back, but at least I'll be driving something that won't require us to take out a second mortgage just for insurance.

After visiting over 60 countries, there are five I especially love that I feel are underrated.Uruguay has wonderful beaches, and Slovenia has epic rivers, mountains, beaches, and caves.Slovakia is fun to explore in winter, and the Christmas market in Bratislava is charming. When I'm planning trips for my family, it's hard to decide between visiting a new destination or returning to an old favorite.I've been to over 60 countries, and although the appeal to see somewhere new is strong, there are a handful of places I can't wait to explore again (and again). Here are some of my favorites that I feel are underrated and often underappreciated by travelers.Slovenia is filled with beauty. The Soa River is beautiful. Ziga Plahutar/Getty Images Slovenia is hands down one of my favorite countries for a road trip. It's not too big and has many well-maintained roads with wonderfully scenic views.Bordered by Italy, Croatia, Austria, and Hungary, the tiny country also has cultural and culinary influences from all sides.Chef Ana Ro may have put Slovenia on the map with her Michelin-star restaurant Hia Franko, but nature is the real star of this country.Considered one of the greenest countries in Europe, Slovenia is home to Triglav National Park, where you can hike, bike, kayak, or raft down the emerald Soa River. While visiting, we jumped at the chance to explore Indiana Jones-worthy caves, glamp on vineyards, and swoon over picture-perfect lakeside towns (such as Bled).Although it's not visited nearly as much as its neighbors, the European country is a standout for me.My family loved traveling around Albania.A view of the town of Kruje near Tirana, Albania. Paul Biris/Getty Images Although Albania is slowly rising in popularity as a tourist destination, it's still often overshadowed by its southern neighbor, Greece. However, its affordable prices and delicious homemade dishes we experienced throughout the country made it an ideal travel destination for my family.Perhaps best explored by car, Albania has a rugged coastline with wild beaches and many natural wonders. Our first stop was the capital Tirana, where we dined farm-to-table at Blerina's Farmhouse and Agrotourism Concept. When we headed outside medieval Gjirokastra, we stayed at The Barrels, a family-owned vineyard bed and breakfast, explored the Blue Eye (a clear water spring), and dined al fresco at the family-run Tamo's Farm.As we went further south, we dove into archaeological history at the ancient Butrint National Park and spent a week lounging on secluded beaches in Himara. We even cruised the coast with Himara Seas the Day, a sibling-owned boat charter that takes visitors to remote caves and coves.I found delicious food and wine in Uruguay.A lighthouse in Jos Ignacio in Uruguay. xeni4ka/Getty Images/iStockphoto The beautiful South American country typically welcomes about 10 million fewer visitors than its northern neighbor Argentina each year. That said, I think Uruguay is a very underrated travel destination and I especially suggest visiting parts of its southern region.Stop by Jos Ignacio, a beach town nicknamed "the Hamptons of South America," where the well-heeled vacation. While there, enjoy the beautiful views and dip your toes in the sand at beachfront restaurants like La Huella.Head to Garzn and dine at Francis Mallman's restaurant, which serves incredible wood-fired and fresh regional cuisine. Also not to be missed is Bodega Garzn, a sustainable winery with a signature Tannat perfect for those who love a full-bodied red wine.To visit, you can even take a day trip from Buenos Aires (an easy ferry ride to quaint Colonia), which my family has done.Latvia's capital impressed me and my tastebuds.Riga is filled with color. f9photos/Getty Images Located on the Baltic Sea, Latvia is perhaps not as well known as many other European destinations. On a solo trip to Latvia's capital Riga, I fell in love with the walkable, vibrant city. I especially enjoyed the fresh local cuisine. While wandering the colorful, cobblestoned old town, I enjoyed incredible fresh pastries. At the farmers market in Kalnciema, the language barrier disappeared as locals insisted I taste everything on offer.I even visited Stiene to see where the area's popular Gogelmogels ice cream is made. The property has farm tours and ice-cream tastings.Plus, I got to spend an evening enjoying a show at the Latvian National Opera. My wonderful experience has convinced me to return again and explore everything Latvia has to offer.I especially loved seeing Slovakia's capital in the wintertime.Bratislava has Christmas markets in the winter. Flavio Vallenari/Getty Images Nestled in Central Europe, Slovakia is high on my list of must-visit countries. When I visited Slovakia during the winter, I found myself captivated by its capital Bratislava's small-town charm. A light dusting of snow provided the perfect backdrop while I explored its massive castle overlooking the city. The Christmas market, located in the heart of the old town, anchored the holiday festivities. Stall after stall overflowed with spiced wine, Bratislava rolls (filled with poppy or nuts), gingerbread cookies, crafts, and ornaments. It felt like a great alternative to the often overcrowded Christmas markets in Germany and France. My best meal was at Bratislava Flagship, a family-owned brewery in a former monastery. It's a gathering spot for locals and features traditional dishes like pierogis, dumplings, and sausage.I would definitely like to go back.

  • Is the viral let them theory really that simple?
    www.vox.com
Sometimes the best advice is the most straightforward. This assumption seems to summarize the appeal of TikToks favorite armchair psychologist at the moment, Mel Robbins. Her extremely basic tips for tackling life and getting anything you want have made her the go-to self-help queen in our increasingly stressful times. The motivational speaker, author, and podcast host has become an A-lister in the virtual advice landscape thanks to her practical approach to productivity and relationships. Even if you havent listened to The Mel Robbins Podcast, or bought one of Robbinss books, youve probably been exposed to her work online. Shes the person getting women on social media to make their beds every morning and high-five themselves in the mirror. Most popular is her viral two-word phrase, let them. The advice is as simple as it sounds: Your teenager wants to dye their hair? Let them. Your spouse is wearing a shirt you dont like? Let them. You think your co-workers are gossiping about you? Let them. Let them theory has quickly become Robbinss calling card. Its the premise of her latest book The Let Them Theory: A Life-Changing Tool That Millions of People Cant Stop Talking About, released this past December and frequently invoked and (sometimes parodied) by her fans on social media. This catchphrase has won the attention of Oprah, TikTok influencers, and regular people posting about their relationship to the concept online. Not everyone is buying what shes selling, however. To some critics, an empire built on obvious and overly generic advice, from a woman without a social work or psychology degree, reads as another self-help scam, and the mantra like a gimmick. While Robbins has largely managed to evade the cynicism and scandals that emerge when a new self-styled expert blows up online, its hard not to notice that her guidance falls into a familiar self-help trap. A burnt-out lawyer with a knack for public speaking Like many self-designated experts on life, Robbins has performed a plethora of impressive jobs and leadership roles outside the realm of psychology. After graduating from Boston College Law School in 1994, she worked as a criminal defense attorney for the Legal Aid Society in New York City, and at a large firm in Boston. Shes led life-coaching programs at big corporations. Shes launched (and sold) her own businesses and hosted a call-in radio show. In 2013, she was a legal analyst for CNN during the George Zimmerman trial. But back in 2009, at the age of 41, Robbins felt she had failed at life, as she tells it in The Let Them Theory. In the midst of a recession, she and her husband were unemployed and operating a failing business, respectively. She was drowning in debt $800,000, she claims and facing house liens, while avoiding her problems with alcohol. As Robbins would repeat again and again when recounting her come-up story, she was so anxious and overwhelmed that she couldnt get out of bed in the morning. It was during this time, watching a NASA launch on TV, that Robbins came up with her five-second rule, which would later become the premise and title of her 2017 book. The mental exercise is as rudimentary as it sounds: count down from 5 as if youre a rocket to launch yourself into whatever action you need to complete, whether thats paying your bills, going to the gym, or, in Robbinss case, simply getting out of bed. Using 5-4-3-2-1, I pushed through the excuses, the anxiety, the overwhelm, and the fear, she writes in The Let Them Theory. Step by step, day by day, week by week, I slowly took the actions that put my life and career back on track. Sheinelle Jones, Jenna Bush Hager, and Mel Robbins on the Today show on September 27, 2023. Nathan Congleton/NBC via Getty ImagesIn 2010, Robbins published her first book, Stop Saying Youre Fine: The No-BS Guide to Getting What You Want. The next year, the non-profit TED invited her to give a lecture at one of their first-ever TEDx conferences in San Francisco. The talk, titled How To Stop Screwing Yourself Over, became an early hit for the platform, and currently has 33 million views. In the video, she uses ideas from her book to help audience members overcome complacency. She spreads her notably uncomplicated concepts over 20 minutes, filling the time with hypothetical scenarios, funny anecdotes about her family, and a dose of scientific research. More than any piece of advice, Robbinss public speaking skills and affable, Midwestern persona stand out. Shes magnetic and motivating, rallying her audience out of feeling stuck, able to balance a sense of comfort with tough love. For Robbins, this down-home practicality is the point. There is an obsession with being smart, I think, in the thought leadership space, Robbins told the New York Times last year. And I would rather be useful. So is the playbook for Robbinss career. While she has a knack for sharing relatable, amusing anecdotes about her own life, shes largely a messenger of other peoples well-tested ideas and wisdom. In Time, she describes herself more like an advice curator: I am on a mission to find as many stories and pieces of science and research and tools that a person can use to make their life a little better. RelatedBillionaires are our modern self-help gurusThats her methodology on The Mel Robbins Podcast, launched three years ago, where she talks to a wide range of experts and people who inspire her about how to tackle lifes hurdles and reach their goals. Its also where she debuted her now signature theory for handling other people. Per a 2022 episode, let them was originally uttered to Robbins by her daughter after Robbins tried to micro-manage her sons prom experience. Now, Robbins instructs her followers to stop wasting time trying to control other people by repeating the pithy saying. Controversially, the phrase has been met with plagiarism allegations. In an interview in the Substack newsletter Sage Words, writer Cassie Phillips accused Robbins of cribbing and capitalizing off of her viral 2022 Let Them poem, which preaches the same idea of radical acceptance. An illusion of freedom and simplicity for stressed-out womenIn the self-help guru space, its hard to be entirely new. There are only so many ways to empower people. Robbinss patchwork philosophy feels like a cross between the more emotion-based work of professor Bren Brown and Tony Robbinss more spiritually macho leadership advice. What this gives her, though, is a platform designed for women who know that they cant have it all but are still willing to try.Robbinss target audience is markedly goal-oriented, career-minded women, including mothers, trying to optimize every part of their lives. Theres an assumption that her listeners have the time and privilege to keep adding self-improvement rituals, like running a marathon or adopting a perfect sleep schedule, to their plate. She often assures her followers that its okay if they occasionally fail at their goals. But the message is that they should constantly be wanting more for themselves, whether its more friends, more money, or a fitter body. Author Virginia Sole-Smith compared Robbinss teachings to diet culture on a recent episode of her Burnt Toast podcast. She says that, like most diet plans, Robbins doesnt seem to anticipate her followers ever reaching a slow-down stage where they arent working as hard. Theres no profit in [Robbinss] followers achieving stasis, says Sole-Smith. Thats what it comes down to, in diet culture, in perfection culture. Mel Robbins is never going to give you permission to reach stasis because then why would you buy her next book? Rae Jones, a therapist at New York-based The Expansive Group, says that the self-help industry as a whole relies on consumers constantly feeling inadequate in order to make a profit. The industry profits off of people feeling poorly about themselves and believing they need to change or fix themselves in some way, and therefore will absolutely encourage the very type of thinking that keeps the self-help industry in business and making millions, they said.Still, Robbinss advice thrives under the guise of simplicity and accessibility. It makes sense that Robbinss nuggets have penetrated short-video platforms, like Instagram and TikTok, where she has 8.4 million and 3.9 million followers, respectively. TikTok is overflowing with so-called hacks that all too often make whatever youre trying to do even more stressful and complicated. Compared to the grueling workout challenges and elaborate morning routines that can easily flood ones feed, Robbins telling women to high-five their bathroom mirror and make their beds every morning may feel like some sort of reprieve. But she hardly seems to be advocating a stress-free, content life. While let them has become her trademark, achieving radical nonchalance certainly isnt the core of her ideology. Scroll through her Instagram, and youre inundated with an onslaught of tips and life hacks on bettering oneself often presented in small numbers (3 Simple Ways to Get The Love You Want; 4 Nighttime Habits To Feel Energized) to give the impression that theyre not as overwhelming. She encourages people to control, regiment, and perfect virtually every aspect of their own lives. As Robbinss profile has grown, so has the range of topics shes eager to discuss. In addition to her usual motivational fodder, she has podcast episodes dedicated to boosting your metabolism, decreasing alcohol consumption, and intermittent fasting. As an upper-middle class, suburban, white mom, I understand why shes speaking to my people, says Sole-Smith. Weve been trained that the way we uphold all of that privilege is to keep going, going, going, achieve, achieve, achieve and not actually look around and question the systems that are forcing us into all of these toxic standards. To keep Robbinss utility at the top of viewers minds and feeds, she has to find more hypothetical problems to fix and areas of her followers lives to address. This quickly becomes repetitive, especially on her podcast, where shell platform numerous experts and approaches on the same issues. This might be the conflicting mindset of an over-achiever whose hard work didnt prevent them from collecting tons of debt and having to rebuild their life. While she preaches indifference regarding other people, she cant help but perpetuate the core principles of hustle culture. Overall, Robbinss advice seems best suited for the sort of corporate-bred, high-achieving women she represents. You can let them do what they want, but never let yourself go. See More:

  • Can men get better at dating?
    www.vox.com
Dating is tough. And for many single straight young men, it can feel downright hopeless. As a man in his mid-30s, I can attest to this. When I was younger, meeting a potential partner felt so accessible. In school, its easy to meet women your age who have similar interests and hobbies because youre in the same classes and extracurriculars. Then, in my mid-20s, right around the time I was embarking on my new career away from home, dating apps hit the scene, making it easier than ever to swipe, meet people, and go on dates. But in the years since, dating apps have become enshittified. Youve got to pay Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge for higher profile visibility, and to see your potential matches. On top of that, we had a global pandemic that allowed folks like me to work remotely but also removed a lot of the daily social interactions that could eventually lead to a relationship. So when a 20-something Vox reader and podcast listener told me over the phone that he too was struggling to date, I got to digging to find out why and what could be done about it. It eventually led me to Charlie McKeever, who calls himself the Happy Man Coach.McKeever works with men one-on-one in Austin, Texas, in addition to organizing retreats and weekly meet-ups, to troubleshoot mens dating and relationship troubles and their broader vulnerability issues. He invited me to one such gathering at a bar called The Water Tank, where I met some of McKeevers clients. I was blown away by how self-aware and enlightened they were. You can call me a dating coach, but I would call myself a confidence coach, McKeever explained. Thats important for dating, its important for relationships, and its important for life. So I help men own themselves, to get to know who they are to reclaim themselves in their life. The guys in McKeevers group were realistic about how men like themselves can struggle to pursue relationships. Steve, a man who dated aimlessly for years, but recently found a partner, told me about a recent conversation with his friend. My friend was talking about, I wanna manifest a relationship. And that basically meant to them, I wanna wish for this to happen. And they thought that that was going to actually work, said Steve, whose last name is being withheld so he can speak freely about his relationships. And I was like, well, thats not gonna work You have to be like, I want this and I am going to take action by doing that. And go do it. Its like an action-oriented thing.McKeever shared some of his insights with the host of Voxs Explain It to Me podcast, Jonquilyn Hill. Read an excerpt of their conversation, edited for length and clarity, below. And listen to Explain It to Me on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get podcasts. If youd like to submit a question, send an email to askvox@vox.com or call 1-800-618-8545.What kinds of men do you coach? And what are some of the general issues theyre having with dating and romantic relationships? In general, men are very feeling. Were also very mission oriented; very singularly focused; and we like to succeed. We dont want to fail. Im a big fan of Alison Armstrongs research, and in it, she says that a man doesnt want to do something that he doesnt think has a high probability of success. So hes going to only do the things that he thinks are worth it, right? At some point he has to learn that he needs to be himself and be who he enjoys being in his life and then do things from that place, right? Doing it as a happy, whole, contented person. And then hell see things from a perspective of abundance and not from a place of scarcity and lack, which is where we come from when we think that we need somebody. We need a persons approval. We need their acceptance in order to be okay. And if we can only be okay if [we have it] then were really in a very precarious place. Loving yourself is all well and good. But what do you say to a man whos doing the work? They love themselves. But theyre still looking for their person.Thats totally legit. And there would have been a time that I would have eye-rolled at all of this, too. But this work doesnt come down to magic. Theres no secret. Its really very logical that when Im dependent on something outside of me, then Im going to feel very powerless. Im going to feel very choiceless. Im going to feel very victimized by the other person. And thats just not a great place to be. Its not a great place to live. One thing I hear from men quite frequently is the word intimacy. They talk about intimacy. They talk about connection. The thing that we dont know, that we dont realize, is that intimacy is not just sex. At the end of the day, what we really want and this is the part that [men] are kind of confused about is that we really want to be seen. We really want to be heard. We really want to be understood. And the interesting thing about intimacy and being seen and being heard, being understood, is that if were in this place where were protecting ourselves, where were trying to get something from somebody, the thing that we think that we dont have, then we actually subvert that connection. If we just blame the external, then what happens is we feel powerless. We feel dependent, we feel choiceless, and we dont recognize how much were influencing our own situation. How would you advise a young man who is not comfortable with approaching a woman in real life? Maybe because they worry they will come off as creepy or cringe? If we believe that its not okay to be ourselves, that its not okay to bother somebody, not okay to approach somebody that its cringe, that its weird, that its whatever then were going to disengage. Were going to disconnect. Were going to avoid. Because if the idea of walking up to somebody and talking to them is painful, then were going to avoid it. Were not going to want to engage in that. This is where mens work comes in. If Im living my life from the outside in, not the inside out, then Im going to say to myself, Its not okay for me to go up and talk to that person, because I can only be this and I cant be that. But what were really wanting what were walking around hungry for, desperate for is acceptance. But if we dont accept ourselves first, if we dont say its okay to be me, then were never going to believe that its going to be okay to go up and talk to somebody and share ourself with somebody.See More:

  • Are AI-generated video games really on the horizon?
    www.theguardian.com
Another month, another revolutionary generative AI development that will apparently fundamentally alter how an entire industry operates. This time tech giant Microsoft has created a gameplay ideation tool, Muse, which it calls the worlds first Wham, or World and Human Action Model. Microsoft claims that Muse will speed up the lengthy and expensive process of game development by allowing designers to play around with AI-generated gameplay videos to see what works.Muse is trained on gameplay data from UK studio Ninja Theorys game Bleeding Edge. It has absorbed tens of thousands of hours of peoples real gameplay, both footage and controller inputs. It can now generate accurate-looking mock gameplay clips for that game, which can be edited and adapted with prompts. All well and good, but in an announcement video for Muse, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer caused confusion when he said that it could be invaluable for the preservation of classic games: AI models, he implied, could learn those games and emulate them on modern hardware. Its not clear how this would be possible. Further muddying the waters, Microsofts overall CEO Satya Nadella then implied in a podcast interview that Muse was the first step in creating a catalogue of AI-generated games. But Muse, as it stands, cant create a game it can only create made-up footage of a game. So just what is this new gaming AI tool? A swish addition to game developers tool belts? Or the first step towards an era of AI-generated gaming detritus? The idea is that designers (or indeed players) can try out ideas with Muse without spending hours (or days) in a gameplay engine implementing something that might not feel good or even work. If a designer wants to see what, say, a power-up would look like in-game, they could generate mock video showing what that might look like, with the AI filling in the gaps.Game engines are complicated, messy things and it takes a lot of time to simulate things theyre not built for that, comments Julian Tongelius, associate professor in computer science and engineering at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering. [Working with] a simulation of the game can be much easier and faster. The opportunities opened up by this kind of study are pretty big, but the limitations are also real.AI gameplay simulations arent totally new Googles GameNGen project created a playable version of Doom that ran without a game engine in 2024. But the problem has always been consistency. Googles Doom simulation worked well at first, but the longer you played, the more the AI would dream up game elements that werent accurate. This is what Microsoft claims to have solved with Muse, but it comes with a massive caveat. This particular model is trained on 500,000 game sessions, so likely around 100,000 hours of gameplay. But it only works because you have so much data. If you move far beyond whats been recorded, simulations generally stop behaving well, explains Tongelius.Microsoft has stated that it is already using Muse to develop real-time playable AI models trained on its other first-party games. But while Muse is great for live-service games such as Bleeding Edge, with access to thousands of hours of live gameplay, for smaller games and single-player titles, it would be a monumental and probably pointless effort to train a generative AI model in each and every specific game.skip past newsletter promotionSign up to Pushing ButtonsFree weekly newsletterKeza MacDonald's weekly look at the world of gamingPrivacy Notice: Newsletters may contain info about charities, online ads, and content funded by outside parties. The technology is cool, and dont get me wrong, video generation is not an easy thing to do I just dont see its target audience. Game developers wont be able to use it for rapid production because it doesnt actually, aside from visualising a particular thing, address any underlying game development issues.Ultimately, there appears to be a disconnect between Spencer and Nadellas comments and what Muse actually does at the moment. Unless something significant changes, it doesnt appear capable of creating playable simulations of classic games, and it certainly doesnt create entirely new AI-generated games. It isnt even clear how Muses generated videos could be translated into actual gameplay.AI-generated video games may yet be on the horizon. Google quietly released Genie 2 a few months back, which is capable of generating playable worlds but thats not what Muse does, at least for now. I will choose to graciously interpret what Satya said as visions of what could be done in the future, says Tongelius. Its entirely possible that we will get to some version of that, but its not around the corner. What Microsoft has done in this paper is a foundation stone.

  • Nintendo Switch 2 details 'leaked' by US Government these are all the improvements
    www.dailystar.co.uk
The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is coming up, but the Federal Communications Commission has seemingly revealed fresh details about the new console here's all we learnedTech11:03, 10 Mar 2025Updated 11:03, 10 Mar 2025The Switch 2 is tipped for a June releaseThe Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a full reveal in just a few weeks, and we're expecting the full reveal of the new console's release date, launch lineup, and pricing at a special Nintendo Direct on April 2.While we've had all manner of leaks and rumours, as we get closer to the big day, the information is starting to come thick and fast and this time it's coming the United States' Federal Communications Commission.New filings have confirmed a few updates for the Switch 2 which help it improve on its predecessor, but some questions remain about its overall power. Here's all we know so far. This is the Switch 2, but there's still plenty we don't know about it yetAs spotted by The Verge, the Switch 2 will be able to be charged via either the top or bottom USB-C ports (the former is new), and will support the Wi-Fi 6 standard with up to 80MHz of bandwidth, which is a step up from the first console's Wi-Fi 5.The Switch 2 is rated for a 15V power adapter, but a 20V adapter is also mentioned. This could suggest a more powerful charger for faster charging, or it could suggest the dock will draw more power for more demanding games. We reported last month that developers had mentioned the Switch 2 will have a much higher overhead for performance than the original console. One of the biggest issues with the first console was that it was running at maximum capacity, leaving little room for loading anything in the background. That led to slow loading times, and big performance drops that were particularly notable in third-party ports of games that were found on other systems. The potential for more power for developers can only be a good thing. For more on portable consoles and Nintendo's latest, be sure to check out why the Switch 2 doesn't have a confirmed Pokemon title yet, as well as Samsung's bendy concept for the future of handheld gaming.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.

    www.dailystar.co.uk
Rockstar Games posted on social media over the weekend, but rather than another GTA Online update or GTA 6 trailer 2, it was a trailer for Danny Dyer's new movie here's why the two are linkedTech10:36, 10 Mar 2025Updated 11:02, 10 Mar 2025Could Danny Dyer be in Vice City?(Image: Getty Images)Grand Theft Auto 6 is still slated to launch in 2025, but you'd be forgiven for thinking it's slipped as Rockstar maintains its radio silence about the project. While the company regularly posts about Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA Online updates (as well as a huge update for GTA 5 on PC), its social media post on Friday night was a little different a trailer for Marching Powder, the new film from British acting royalty Danny Dyer. That's led some to think the EastEnders and Football Factory star could be included in GTA 6, but what you might not know is that Dyer has been in a few GTA titles already.Dyer has been a regular in Eastenders(Image: BBC / Kieron McCarron)Sharing the snippet from Marching Powder on X (formerly Twitter), Rockstar certainly got eyes on the trailer. Given the studio's reach of 21 million followers, that's a lot of people seeing it on their feed. The film is directed by Nick Love, who also directed 2004 cult hit The Football Factory, which starred Danny Dyer as a football hooligan contemplating his life choices, but what you might not know is that the movie was produced by Rockstar Games. While Rockstar isn't tied in any way to Marching Powder, it seems the studio is just looking to promote a movie that two of their collaborators have worked on.That's not all, though. Dyer previously appeared in both GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas as music mogul Kent Paul, managing the in-game rock band Love Fist in the former, before working with the Gurning Chimps and Madd Dogg in the latter. The last we heard from Kent Paul, he'd begun an 80s nostalgia website with such pearls as "I used to have a mullet, but I'm okay now.For more on GTA, be sure to check out the news that Rockstar has acquired a new studio, or the latest map 'leak' that suggests Leonida will dwarf GTA 5's Los Santos.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.

  • Battlefield 6 gameplay video leaks praised as amazing by fans
    metro.co.uk
Concept art from the next Battlefield (EA)EAs first Battlefield Labs test session has led to an abundance of leaked gameplay videos, showing off the huge map size and a new revive mechanic. After Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042 failed to please the fanbase, EA is taking extra measures to ensure Battlefield 6 puts the would-be Call Of Duty rival back on course. As announced last month, a big part of this is a major increase in player tests through the revamped community testing program, Battlefield Labs. This is where registered players can try out new weapons and gadgets on a separate server, and play a very early version of the game. The first of these Battlefield Labs testing sessions took place last weekend, and while those invited are not supposed to post footage online, inevitably many did anyway. In the leaked gameplay videos on Reddit, the map from the first gameplay trailer is revealed to be called Abbasid, although its still unclear where exactly it is set (the name Abbasid comes from an 8th century caliphate originally based in what is now Iraq but which later relocated to Cairo). As youd expect from Battlefield, theres plenty of destruction and impressive physics, along with some worryingly immersive screeching sound effects from surrounding explosions. One video shows off the series staple vehicular combat, as a tank trundles through the urban streets and shoots down buildings. Theres also a new assist mechanic where you can drag fallen allies across the floor to safety before reviving them.If you want a better look at the user interface you can find images here, which also gives an indication of the maps size. Many of these gameplay videos are still online several days later, so EA is clearly not too perturbed by the leaks, which might be because the general sentiment appears to be largely positive from those within diehard Battlefield circles and EA would certainly welcome the positivity for the franchise.I couldnt resist and watched the leaked Battlefield 6 gameplay, one X user wrote. Glad I did. This brings back hope. It looked like an actual battlefield game.https://twitter.com/Battlefield6Hub/status/1898121255200374814Amazing, another added on Reddit in response to the destruction. Keep listening DICE.More TrendingThe audio is crazy good, one user wrote. It sounds like explosions are reverberating off the buildings.Battlefield 6 is being developed under a new Battlefield Studios umbrella consisting of four studios. DICE, the main developer of previous Battlefield games, is working on multiplayer; Criterion is developing the single-player campaign; while Motive is creating multiplayer maps and single-player mission content. The last studio, Ripple Effect, is working on an experience that is really going to open Battlefield up to a whole group of new players which tracks with rumours of a battle royale spin-off to rival Call Of Duty: Warzone. While its unclear when the next Battlefield Labs test session is, you can still sign up to take part on the official website, so therell likely be plenty more leaks before launch. Battlefield 6 still doesnt have a release date, but its expected to arrive later this year. • A Handful of Mario Games for Nintendo Switch Just Dropped in Price on Amazon for MAR10 Day
    gizmodo.com
Every nerdy fandom has their own made up fan holiday. Star Wars fans have May the Fourth. Jurassic Park fans have July Sixth Park. And Super Mario fans have March 10th aka MAR10 Day. Gather around your Nintendo with some pals and play some games featuring the mascot of video games as a medium. Thats not all though. Retailers have also hopped in on the fun of the holiday and have dropped the price of a handful for games to celebrate. You can also save some cash on Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and Mario Party Superstars.See Nintendo Mario at AmazonSuper Mario Bros. WonderThe 2D side-scrolling Super Mario games have had an interesting trajectory. It was the staple of the franchise, with noticeable improvements and art style upgrades with each iteration, until the Nintendo 64 paved the way for an era of 3D Mario. Eventually on the Nintendo DS, New Super Mario Bros.released to revitalize the 2D games which then got sequels on the Wii and Wii U, but those didnt really innovate much in regards to art direction and then we got no new entries for over a decade.Super Mario Bros. Wonder dropped last year bringing back 2D Mario once again with a much welcomed stylistic overhaul. This cartoonish, almost painted look is an astonishing jump from Super Mario Bros. Wii U Deluxe. Also, the game is just as fun as youd hope a 2D Mario game to be. Hop in with up to three of your friends collecting Wonder Flowers which have surprising, game-changing effects like pipes coming alive or enemies breaking out into song. Its a treat from start to finish, and right now its $10 off at just $50.See Super Mario Bros Wonder at AmazonMario + Rabbids Sparks of HopeBack in the Nintendo Switchs first year, one of the biggest surprises was Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This tactics strategy game has Mario and friends dimension invaded by the Rabbids of the Rayman games. No one was expecting a crossover from Nintendo of this caliber and even fewer no ones thought it would be any good. Turns out it rips. Its so good they greenlit a sequel that is also super good. This is a funny one. You see, Mario games hardly ever drop in price. However, Ubisoft games almost alwaysdrop in price. So what happens when a Mario game developed by Ubisoft drops in price? Well it turns out, Ubisoft wins. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope bis down to just $20 for MAR10 Day down from its launch price of $60.See Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope at AmazonMario Party SuperstarsThree different Mario Party games came out during the Nintendo Switch generation. The series had been in a strange place, not properly utilized arguably since the GameCube. But now its back and better then ever. All three entries are the Switch are great in their own right, but I tend to favor the second one releasedMario Party Superstars. This one brings back five classic boards from the Nintendo 64 era of games which I am particularly fond for plus its got 100 of the best minigames across the entire series brought together in one collection. Its also the one entry of the three Switch Mario Party that doesnt use motion controls which means you can play with a Pro Controller. Right now, Mario Party Superstarsis down $9, bringing the price to just $51.See Mario Party Superstars at Amazon
