  • Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Gets Its First Bits Of New Info From Neil Druckmann
    www.gamespot.com
Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann revealed some more narrative details about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet in Creator to Creator discussion with Civil War director Alex Garland. The studio behind Uncharted and The Last of Us revealed Intergalactic, a brand new sci-fi game meant to kickstart a franchise, at The Game Awards 2024. That announcement trailer revealed a fair bit about Intergalactic's premise, namely that it follows a bounty hunter who gets standard on the distant planet of Sempiria. Ahead of season 2 of the popular The Last of Us TV show, Druckmann appeared on Sony's Creators to Creators podcast for a discussion with film director Alex Garland, who is promoting the upcoming film 28 Years Later. Toward the end of the conversation, Druckmann revealed more about the universe Intergalactic is set in and Naughty Dog's goals with the project. Druckmann highlights that Intergalactic will be "a game about faith and religion" and is set around 2000 years in the future in a universe that diverged from our own in the 1980s. He reveals that Naughty Dog has created 2000 years of history for the religion of Sempiria, which has been cut off from communication with the rest of the galaxy for the last 600 years prior to the start of the game. He also explained how Naughty Dog wants players to feel lonely and lost in a place whose people and history are mysterious to them.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • Finally, I can pretend Im on my phone
    www.polygon.com
I know Im not the only person who finds themself reflexively opening and closing apps, like perusing digital window displays to feel as if Im doing something.A new game from developer Pippin Barr playfully highlights how meaningless our relationships with phones can be. Its called Its As If You Were On Your Phone, and you can play it, on your phone, right now.IAIYWOYP posits a situation in which youre just pretending to be on your phone. The site offers you intermittent orders, and actions to perform:Watch the screen.Widen your eyes and then frown.Just look at your phone. You tap circles as they pop up, swipe when asked, and occasionally are told to clean your screen.Taken all together, it creates the ideal symphony of actions that you might need to convince a neighboring restaurant table that youre not eavesdropping on them (youre on your phone). What I found most compelling, and disturbing, is how satisfying all this is. I like double-tapping a pink circle, and pressing my fingers pensively to my lips. Maybe its the play-acting, or maybe this simple feedback is genuinely all Im getting out of using my phone anyway. I am a compulsive phone-user, with very little to show for it other than almost 2,000 victories in Sawayama Solitaire. If taking orders from a clever phone game is as momentarily compelling to me as, say, scrolling Bluesky, then what the hell am I doing here? You can play Its As If You Were On Your Phone for free on your phone in browsers now.

  • Hideo Kojima has a cameo in the surprise Control update that just dropped
    www.polygon.com
Controls Ultimate Edition got a new update on Monday, which adds new content to the game five years after its launch. That new (for many) content includes a cameo from Death Stranding director Hideo Kojima, who plays Dr. Yoshimi Tokui. The mission is playable when you pick up the Dr Tokui Tapes collectible in the Extrasensory Lab of the Research Sector, Remedy Entertainment community manager Vida Starcevic wrote in a post on the Control website. This mission was previous only available to players on the PlayStation 4 Digital Deluxe edition.Kojima seemingly recorded the lines for the Control mission in 2019, according to a post from his personal assistant. Kojima and Remedy Entertainment director Sam Lake swapped cameos; Lake made a cameo in Death Stranding as Veteran Porter. Both games were released in 2019, and both topped plenty of game of the year lists, including Polygons. As for the rest of the update, Control players got three new outfits, which were previously preorder exclusive items. There were also some graphics and DLSS updates, as well as bug fixes. One of those general updates was to the audio on some cinematics and end credits, where there was apparently some mixing problems. It wasnt the Hiss, it was us, Starcevic wrote. Sorry. So far, the update is only for PC players. Remedy Entertainment expects to release the update on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the near future. Both Lake and Kojima are working on follow-ups to their 2019 releases; Remedy Entertainment is working on Control 2, while Kojimas Kojima Productions is working on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

  • The Nintendo Alarmo Sound Clock Actually Gets Me Up in the Morning
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page. For many years, I've depended on my phone to get me out of bed in the morning, and I've hated it. I'd easily snooze or catch myself doom scrolling instead of starting my morning routine. That all changed after my brother gifted me perhaps the best Christmas present I've received over the last few years: a Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, which you can now get on Walmart or Target for $99.99. It was previously only available on the Nintendo store. Display: Digital, Power type: Corded Electric, Alarm clock type: Projection Alarm Clocks. Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo (Walmart) $99.00 at Walmart $317.50 Save $218.50 Shop Now Shop Now $99.00 at Walmart $317.50 Save $218.50 Display: Digital, Power type: Corded Electric, Alarm clock type: Projection Alarm Clocks. Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo $99.98 at Target Shop Now Shop Now $99.98 at Target SEE -1 MORE The Alarmo is a digital alarm clock that needs to be connected to an outlet with a USB cable to be powered on. You no longer need a Switch Online membership to buy (or use it). It comes with many built-in themes you can choose from, including Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4, and Ring Fit Adventure. Nintendo says you can expect to download more in the future for free, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Alarmo uses a motion sensor to detect that you're getting out of bed to stop the alarm from going off. I've been using the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild theme since I set it up and have been using it for months with great results. Because I need to get up to stop the alarm, and I don't want the alarm to wake up my fiance, it's been effective. I never thought Nintendo would be the one to fix my morning issues and over-dependence on my phone.Something to note is that although there is no snooze feature, it is designed to temporarily stop the music when you move, essentially snoozing. But it's not a pleasant snooze since the music will keep on playing, progressively getting louder. You can also easily unplug it to turn it off completely since there's no battery, but it has been working great for me regardless.
