  • How to get ancient wyvern coins in Monster Hunter Wilds
    www.polygon.com
Ancient wyvern coins are an special item in Monster Hunter Wilds. Youll have a (small) chance at collecting them in the wilds, get them from trading, or earn them as (possible) rewards for capturing certain endemic life.Youll need ancient wyvern coins to trade with Gawdygog in the Wudwud Hideout settlement in the Scarlet Forest for some valuable materials, including Sinister Cloth. Our Monster Hunter Wilds guide will tell you how to get ancient wyvern coins and how to collect them. How to get ancient wyvern coins in Monster Hunter WildsAncient wyvern coins might be found in just about any region, but they spawn very rarely. They dont show up on your map, and they just kind of appear on the ground. Watch the list of collectible items on the left of your HUD for them.A good place to look for one is in the Scarlet Forests Area 8: Underground Lake pop-up camp. To the west of the camp, theres an area to drop down to. Head over to the edge of the water and dive in to the deep part. This will bring you out on a small patch of dry land where you can (sometimes) find an ancient wyvern coin on the ground.Since you cant really rely on the randomly spawning ground coins, youll have to turn to other methods. Specifically:Collecting them from gastronome tuna (whopper aquatic life)Collecting them from curioshell crabs (endemic life)Trading for themLets talk about each of those in turn.Catch gastronome tunaGastronome tuna are a type of whopper really big fish you can catch after you get the tuff joing bait from Kanya.Gastronome tuna are only found in Area 17 of the Scarlet Forest and weve only seen them during a plenty. Catching one has a small chance of rewarding you with an ancient wyvern coin.Capture curioshell crabsA much better way to find ancient wyvern coins is to look for curioshell crabs. These are hard-to-spot endemic life that can show up in any region. Chances are, the only clue youve gotten about them so far is Alma saying, Is that creature holding something? If you can spot it and snag it with your capture net before it runs away (wearing the ghillie mantle helps you stay hidden), youll get whatever it was carrying which in our testing has been an ancient wyvern coin. There are a few places that they tend to spawn pretty reliably:Windward Plains, Area 6: Valley Hideaway Campsite up the narrow path to the southeastWindward Plains, Area 14: Groundwater Vein on the large cave southeast of the campScarlet Forest, Area 6: Flowering Rocks in the underwater swimming area north of campScarlet Forest, Area 8: Underground Lake on the fishing outcrop north of the campThe first time you catch a curioshell crab, youll also get the A Prize Held High acheivement/trophy.Trade with RoveOnce Rove is established as a trader in the Iceshard Cliffs (near Area 20: Ancient Room), you can trade certain materials with him in exchange for ancient wyvern coins. He tends to want things like chaliceweed and gobletweed both plants that you can only collect underwater. How to use ancient wyvern coins in Monster Hunter WildsThe main (only?) thing youll use ancient wyvern coins for is to trade with Gawdygog at the Wudwud Hideout in the Scarlet Forest. Theyll exchange the coins for things like cooking ingredients, armor spheres, drearsite scraps, and gold melding tickets. The gold melding tickets are the best way to (try to) get the best decoration gems in the game.To also help you understand Monster Hunter Wilds, we explain how to capture monsters, how to change weapons, provide some Seikret tips, and teach you how layered armor works.

  • How to get Sinister Cloth in Monster Hunter Wilds
    www.polygon.com
Sinister Cloth is a High Rank material in Monster Hunter Wilds, and youll need it to build one of the coolest and best armor sets in the game: Death Stench. Unfortunately, Sinister Cloth is very rare, and obnoxious to purchase once you actually do find some.In this Monster Hunter Wilds guide, well walk you through how to get Sinister Cloth and how to refresh Item Trade inventories until you find some. How to get Sinister Cloth in Monster Hunter WildsSinister Cloth is an item youll need to trade for in Monster Hunter Wilds. Weve seen Sinister Cloth show up in two different vendor inventories, each of which require a different form of rare payment:Kilama: 1 Great Windward Aloe for 1 Sinister ClothGawdygog: 10 Ancient Wyvern Coins for 1 Sinister ClothAncient Wyvern Coins are a rare resource you can chance upon during your adventure, and Great Windward Aloe only appears as a rare event collectible in the Windward Plains. Make sure you have enough of these on hand to purchase some Sinister Cloth each time you visit Nata for the Item Trade. These vendors refresh their inventory from time to time and can sell some very valuable items like Sinister Cloth. You can visit all of these vendors in person, or you can simply speak to Nata in any base camp to browse their inventories.Unfortunately, while these vendors can sell Sinister Cloth, they dont always sell Sinister Cloth, and you can go multiple refreshes without seeing one. But you can manually reset the vendor as often as you want to increase your chances of seeing Sinister Cloth. How to refresh the Item Trade inventory in Monster Hunter WildsTo force an Item Trade inventory refresh, all you need to do is rest in your tent conveniently located mere feet from where Nata sits.Find the BBQ Menu (its the one middle icon) and select the rest button once you get there. This will open up a menu that prompts what kind of weather you want and what time you want to skip to. Select the weather and season of your choice (we always pick inclement and evening) and spend the 300 Guild Points to rest. After you regain control of your character, walk back over to Nata and check through the inventories. All of his Item Trade vendors should now have different inventories. And one of them, hopefully, will be selling Sinister Cloth. If there still isnt any Sinister Cloth, repeat this process until some eventually comes up.Keep in mind that this process can take a long time, and that youll need to spend 300 Guild Points every time you do a reset. Our Monster Hunter Wilds guides can outline your progress with our main story walkthrough and monster list, help you settle on an armament with our weapons list and best weapons explainers, uncover ores, bones, and monster tails, and teach you how to join friends in co-op multiplayer.

  • Fire Risk Recall May Explain That Controversial Pixel 4a Battery Update
    lifehacker.com
At the end of last month, The Google Pixel 4a got a software update that rendered the device nearly unusable for some people, for seemingly unknown reasons. The update included "battery management features" that left some people with phones that couldn't hold a charge for more than 30 minutes. Google explained the problems in a support document and offered a few solutions, but again, it didn't explain the root cause of the issue. But now, there appears to be one possible explanation for the problemoverheating batteriesas mentioned in a Pixel 4a recall issued in Australia, spotted first by Android Authority. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued the recall notice on March 7, saying in a supporting document that some Pixel 4a units are currently at risk of fire due to overheating batteries. The notice clarifies that this doesn't affect all Pixel 4a units and it goes on to say that if your device is unaffected by this issue, the January software update will have no impact on its battery or performance, implying that Google pushed out the update to reduce the risk of fire on impacted phone. When Google issued the software update, its support document also mentioned that the software update will only update the battery management in certain devices. The company had additionally cited a potential degradation in lithium-ion batteries as a reason for the update. If the ACCC's notice is accurate and overheating batteries are indeed the reason behind the January software update for the Pixel 4a, it could offer a potential explanation of why the update was rushed out so quickly. Usually, Pixel phones receive big software updates as a part of Pixel Drops that are released every few months. Outside of that, Google usually only issues stability and security updates that don't usually get their own blog posts. In this case, the company rolled out a big update with a detailed support document, possibly because the issue was so potentially serious. I've reached out to Google for a comment and will update the story once the company responds. Credit: ACCC But long story short, when faced with a potential fire risk, it looks like Google is choosing to limit the capacity of the battery in affected devices rather than court disaster.Check if your Pixel 4a is impactedIn case you haven't done so already, you can check if your Pixel 4a is impacted by going to this Google Support page and following the on-screen steps. If it is, Google offers three optionsa free battery replacement, a credit of $100 towards another Pixel phone, or a one-time cash settlement of $50.

  • My Favorite Budget-Friendly QLED TV Is $320 Off Right Now
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.Midrange TVs have been getting so good over the last few years that it's getting hard to justify spending two to three times the price for an OLED TV. That has been TCL's goal, since their business model is essentially to kill off OLED TVs by mastering the QLED tech at a relatively low price. TCL's QM7 is the best and latest example of that, which I got to review and put to the test. The 55-inch model is just $479.99 (it was $799.99 during its release), an amazing value for its current price. The 65- and 75-inch are also much cheaper than their launch pricees, according to price-tracking tools. Size: 55-inches, TV OS: Google TV, HDR: Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos, Refresh Rate: 120Hz. QLED might never reach the picture quality that OLEDs can get to, but for most people, it can get pretty close and be much cheaper. Right now, the Hisense U7N and TCL's QM7 are the best QLED TVs you can buy right now, and you can't really go wrong with either. The keyword most QLED shoppers are looking for is "dimming zones"the more you have, the better deep blacks will look next to bright highlights. The QM7 has up to 1,240 local dimming zones, which is much more than Hisense U7N's 384 local dimming zones. It can also get very bright, with up to 2,400 nits at peak brightness. Of course, you get 4K resolution and HDR support (HDR ULTRA with Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG). As a gamer, I enjoyed the 120Hz refresh rate and 6 millisecond input lag with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, making my Halo matches go smoothly. The Google TV OS is icing on the cake, since I love casting to the TV seamlessly from my phone. The QM7 has been my favorite non-OLED TV I've ever tried, and for its current price, it's the best non-OLED TV you can get.

  • A surprise Control update brings Hideo Kojima and HDR to the PC version
    www.engadget.com
The fantastic third-person adventure Control, developed by Remedy Entertainment, just got a surprise software update. The biggest news here is HDR support, which should be a real boon for graphics-minded gamers.Interestingly, HDR support started as a mod. It was made by a Remedy dev as a passion project and now its in the actual game. Thats always nice to hear. Theres a video below with a lot more information as to how this was done. The update also brings improved DLSS support. The game now integrates with DLSS 3.7. This isnt the latest DLSS 4.0 release, but itll get the job done. Film grain has been added back to DLSS SR and the devs have enhanced shadow resolution when DLSS is enabled. Otherwise, the update brings a new Ultra ray-tracing preset, which the dev promises more rays per pixel and higher temporal stability.Theres ultrawide monitor support for up to 48:9 displays, a new FOV scaling setting for the camera and rendering resolution support beyond 4K. This is very much a graphics-focused update. The newly-released features do, however, go beyond looks. All outfits that were formerly pre-order or console-specific exclusives will now be available to everyone. Also, all players can now access a mission called Dr. Yoshimi Tokuis Guided Imagery Experience. This is the one that includes voice work by Hideo Kojima. This mission was previously exclusive to the PS4 Digital Deluxe version of the game.Beyond that, there are the usual minor bug fixes, including one for the end game credits. The update is available right now for PC players, with a console version on the way. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/gaming/a-surprise-control-update-brings-hideo-kojima-and-hdr-to-the-pc-version-190051559.html?src=rss

  • Apple's AirPods Pro 2 are down to $170 at Amazon
    www.engadget.com
Now's a good time to pick up a pair of AirPods Pro 2 earbuds. Amazon has them on sale for $170, which is just about the lowest price we've seen them this year. The all-time low hit back during Black Friday last year, but if you missed them then, you have another opportunity now to grab them for a good sale price. This purchase comes with the earbuds, four pairs of silicone tips in different sizes, a charging case, a lanyard loop and a USB-C cable. We heaped a fair amount of praise on these earbuds in our official review, calling them "a worthwhile update." The sound is better-than-ever, thanks to new drivers, amplifiers, transducers and audio algorithms. The transparency mode is absolutely stellar, largely helped by the companys proprietary H2 chip. The ANC is solid, particularly for earbuds. This is also thanks to that H2 chip, which allows the AirPods Pro to cancel twice as much noise as the first-gen model. These earbuds are made for Apple devices, so theres seamless switching between, say, iPhones, iPads and Macs. The touch gesture controls are neat, but there's a learning curve. Give it a few days before throwing in the towel. The battery life is just average, but the charging case helps keep the music going. The primary downside here is age. The AirPods 2 Pro earbuds came out in 2022, so a refresh is likely on the horizon. • How do we ensure neurodiversity is not just a buzzword?
    www.fastcompany.com
Hundreds of thousands of peopleincluding meare heading to Austin, Texas, for the SXSW Conference and Festivals to learn, share, and meet others who are eager to propel business and culture forward. In perusing the lineup for this years conference, I was pleasantly surprised. In addition to Understood.orgs session, the agenda has half a dozen panels or meetups focused on some flavor of neurodiversityfrom the science behind neuroinclusive office design to learning to love your tricky brain. As a neurodivergent leader at Understood.org, I often find myself the lone neurodiversity advocate in professional settingscreatively connecting dots to make the business (as well as the moral and ethical) case for why people who learn and think differently shouldnt be overlooked at work, at school, and in the world. So, looking at the agenda, Im thrilled! Its incredible to see that people plan to proactively discuss people who learn and think differently at such an influential event. But Im also cautious. Because I dont want neurodiversity to get buzzword treatment.Weve seen it before: The viral business focus or philosophy that dominates headlines and conference agendas for a certain period of time and thenpoof! It disappears. Empathetic leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic-era. Fail smart before that.We cant let neurodiversity get labeled as a trend, because its not a trend. Neurodiversity is the future, and its critical for business growth. The future is grounded in neurodiversityResearch shows that 53% of GenZ identify as neurodivergent, and this revelation comes at a critical moment when GenZ now outnumbers baby boomers in the workplace. This means that more than half of middle managersincluding those who will grow into future leaderslearn and think differently. Their neurodivergence may mean they have different expectations around ways of working, sharing information, and flexibility. Todays business leaders must understand the upcoming generation of talent so that they can unlock their full potential. This should also be a wake-up call for brands. Every brand leader is trying to better understand and penetrate the GenZ market. Recognizing that more than half of these consumers identify as neurodivergent can potentially open up new opportunitiesfrom product development to marketing. Its estimated that neurodivergent consumers boast almost $2 trillion in spending power. In short, organizations are leaving talent and money on the table if they dont consider the neurodivergent population.Accessibility is a competitive advantageAt a moment when there is sensitivity around language related to equity and opportunity, we must make sure accessibility remains. Accessibility helps everyone. Its often the first step toward building environments where people feel included, and its also an unlock for business growth. When people can access information easily, theyre enabled to do their best work. This is especially important for neurodivergent talent, who can offer creativity and unique problem-solving skills when granted the right support. In fact, Gartner research has shown that cognitively diverse and inclusive decision-making teams lead to exceeding financial goals for 75% of organizations. Its one of the reasons Understood.org leverages the principles of universal design in our operations. Universal design is a simple concept, whether its applied to architecture, education, or product design: If you design for the fringes, it benefits everyone. We know that using AI tools to take notes and provide captioning is beneficial to all, and that its particularly impactful for people with sensory or processing issues. We understand that using larger text sizes and bullet points in documents increases readability, and that these guidelines are especially helpful for our dyslexic talent. We adopted these practices so that the one-third of Understood employees who identify as neurodivergent dont need to ask for formal accommodations to do their job. Support is available to everyone and helps everyone. While language may change, the work to build accessible environments for your workforce or your customers shouldnt. Employers should view it for what it is: a competitive advantage, because it provides people with the opportunity to participate, engage, and play to their strengths.Where do we go from here? Im optimistic about neurodiversity being discussed openly at marquee events. Im encouraged by the inquiries we receive from leading companies wanting to be more supportive of neurodivergent employees or customers. I look at Google, which helped launch The Neu Project, and Hinge, which conducted in-depth research to improve the dating experience for users with ADHD. These brands get it.So, lets continue talking about neurodiversity at conferences. Lets continue celebrating the strengths while acknowledging the challenges. And lets continue to push organizations to embrace neurodiversitynot just with words, but with action. Those that do will reap the benefits to their bottom line and do right in their world.Nathan Friedman is copresident and chief marketing officer of Understood.org.The Fast Company Impact Council is a private membership community of influential leaders, experts, executives, and entrepreneurs who share their insights with our audience. Members pay annual membership dues for access to peer learning and thought leadership opportunities, events and more.
