Sanjay Puri Architects uses fluid surfaces to create Nine X Nine House in India
html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"Indian architecture practice Sanjay Puri Architects has used fluid surfaces and S-shaped form to create this house in Gandhinagar, India.Named Nine X Nine House, the 1,672-square-metre house is situated on the southern side of a 3,311-square-metre site, while fluid volumes flowing between nine existing trees, with two of the trees separating the open deck sections.Sanjay Puri Architects is a Professional Member of the World Architecture Community, and Sanjay Puri is a Honorary Member of the WAC platform. Sanjay Puri Architects won the WA Awards 10+5+X in the 49th Cycle with the Earth Home in India. The home is slowly revealed from the gate as one enters the site, which is situated between a sizable group of trees on the northwest corner. All of the rooms on the northern side are directed toward the huge garden created by the developed spaces on the southern side. With temperatures above 35C for the majority of the year and the sun in the southern hemisphere, the orientation is designed to respond to the hot environment that is common in this area. The house simultaneously creates a "T" shape in both plan and section. With a central spiral staircase at its center, a central spine splits off to the east and west as it is entered from the northern side. The home is divided into two halves, one on the ground floor and one on the upper level. An open stairway along an undulating wall with a waterfall connects the underground level to the ground level garden, while a spacious sunken courtyard area on the western side lets in natural light and air.The areas are passively cooled by this waterfall on the west side and a shallow reflecting pool on the northeast side. Three more trees were kept on the southeast side, and six of the original trees were kept in the sunken courtyard. The living room, dining room, kitchen, and guest bedroom are all located on the first floor of the house. Three family bedrooms are located on the upper level, each of which has a window overlooking the garden and trees on two sides.Entertainment areas and a small gallery showcasing the owners' art collection are planned for the underground level.Large cantilevered decks that are partially open and half covered open from every room of the home, creating transitional areas that may be used in various ways depending on the weather. During the sweltering summer months, when temperatures can reach 50C, these deep recesses help to keep the internal volumes cool.White marble flooring, wood furnishings, and muted accents abound in the interior's minimalistic design.Because of its energy-efficient construction, the house doesn't need air conditioning for the most of the year. Each section receives plenty of natural light, and the inside is furnished with natural materials, water recycling, and rainwater collection. The Nine X All of the existing structures and trees between the nine homes are preserved in their contextual design. Because of its orientation and layout, it reduces heat gain and creates spaces that blend in with the natural environment, making it climate-responsive.Sanjay Puri Architects designed a museum wrapped by grey fluid concrete in the city of Nathdwara, India. In addition, the firm sculpted a house with steep and punctuated arches to respond to the hot desert climate of Rajasthan in India.Project factsProject name: Nine X Nine HouseArchitects: Sanjay Puri ArchitectsLocation: Gandhinagar, Gujrat, IndiaClient Name: Mr. Dharam ChudasmaStart Date: May 2021Completion Date: January 2025Gross Floor Area: 1672 M.SQ.Plot Area: 3311 sqmLead Architect: Ar.Sanjay Puri, Ar.Nina Puri Design Team: Ar.Ayesha Puri, Nilesh PatelConsultants:Interior design Consultant: Sanjay Puri ArchitectsStructure Consultant: Sarjan ConsultantsLandscape Design: Studio 2+2 (Mr. Shivans Singh)MEP consultants: Maheshwari ConsultantsAll images Vinay Panjwani.> via Sanjay Puri Architects

Great British Energys 200m project targets solar panels for schools and NHS
Announcement comes as Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch signals a retreat from her predecessors support for the cross-party commitment to reach net zero by 2050Source: ShutterstockAround 400 school and NHS sites will get solar panels through the 200m initiativeThe government has announced its first major project for Great British Energy, aimed at reducing energy bills for public services through the installation of solar panels on schools and NHS sites across England. The 200m initiative is part of the governments attempts to alleviate the financial strain caused by rising energy costs on public services. Around 200 schools and 200 NHS sites across the UK will see rooftop solar panels installed, with the government promising millions of pounds of savings over the next 30 years. The solar panels will be installed by the end of summer 2025. The programme is allocating 80m for installations at schools, with a further 100m directed towards NHS sites. The aspiration is that schools and hospitals will also be able to sell surplus energy back to the grid. The government claims the initiative could deliver up to 400m in lifetime savings.Source: ShutterstockEd Miliband, energy secretaryEnergy secretary Ed Miliband said: This is our clean energy superpower mission in action, with lower bills and energy security for our country.Juergen Maier, chair of Great British Energy, said the scheme marked the first step in Great British Energys work with local communities to help them generate their own energy. He added that partnering with the public sector would help crowd in investment and create job opportunities across the country as the company works to scale up future projects. In addition to the core solar scheme, nearly 12m will support local authority and community-led clean energy projects, including onshore wind, hydropower and rooftop solar. A further 9.3m will fund similar initiatives in devolved nations.Education secretary Bridget Phillipson said: This investment will not only cut energy bills for schools but also help young people develop the green skills they need for the jobs of the future.Design Council chief executive Minnie Moll welcomed the announcement, saying: This announcement is a significant opportunity to combine the power of clean energy innovation with inclusive and sustainable design that supports the long-term resilience of our schools, hospitals and communities. But shadow energy secretary Andrew Bowie criticised the governments net zero strategy, claiming it would leave the UK poorer. The announcement came in the same week that Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch signalled an end to the UKs commitment to achieving net zero by 2050. Badenoch claimed in a policy review that the target was impossible to achieve and said that current policies were failing to deliver on climate goals while driving up energy costs. Her decision to abandon the net zero commitment represents a break from the cross-party consensus that had guided UK climate policy since 2019, when the net zero target was enshrined in law under Theresa Mays government.Badenoch reinforced the shift by describing the UKs existing climate strategy as fantasy politics, built on nothing, promising the Earth. Her comments were seen by some as aligning with the Trump administrations policies in the US, where the federal government is engaged in a wide-ranging effort to roll back environental standards and regulation.

A fond farewell to Katharine Castle
A fond farewell to Katharine CastleEurogamer's managing editor is off to help make games.Image credit: Eurogamer Blog by Tom Phillips Editor-in-Chief Published on March 21, 2025 Hey everyone, I'm very sorry to say that this week is Katharine Castle's last at Eurogamer - and in games journalism as a whole! - as she's heading off into the world of game development. A veteran journalist and critic, Katharine joined us last year after a long stint at our sister publication Rock Paper Shotgun, including nearly three years as its editor-in-chief. In her time at Eurogamer, Katharine has thrown herself into everything - from exhaustive game guides to reviews of some of last year's biggest games - and made a huge mark. From day one, it was clear how well Katharine understands games, and how best to communicate that passion to others, including those lucky enough to be her colleagues. She also makes up a great Google spreadsheet - and Eurogamer's ancient site schedule document has now never looked better.Katharine has an undying love of indies, and has taken charge of Eurogamer's now-regular Wishlisted series that highlights the best recommendations from each Steam Fest. Her exhaustive knowledge of Nintendo, meanwhile, was clear in her report from Kyoto on the Nintendo Museum, which she travelled to before the attraction publicly opened its doors. In short, Katharine will be greatly missed and leaves some big shoes to fill. For now, here's some farewell words from her - please join me in thanking her and wishing her the very best for what's next."Farewell dear readers! My time at Eurogamer - and in games journalism more broadly - has sadly come to an end. I'm really going to miss this incredible team, and it will be very strange indeed not to be writing about cool new video games every day anymore. I know I've only been here a very short while in the site's esteemed 25-year history, but it's been a real privilege to be even the tiniest part of this place, and to get to know you through some of our chats in the comments. You're a smart bunch, and it's been a pleasure writing for you all these past 12 months. Now, I'll be joining your ranks as a fellow reader, and I can't wait to see what the Eurogamer team get up to in the months and years ahead. Thanks again for reading, and see you in the comments!" - Katharine

Marvel Rivals devs were shocked as their Invisible Woman design broke the internet
You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games hereMarvel Rivals promised a superhero showdown when it came out, letting you fight as your favorite Marvel characters in a chaotic, ability-fueled free-for-all shooter. There were a lot of big names on the original roster, and then the games first big update Season 1 added even more iconic heroes Marvels First Family, The Fantastic Four. The community would surely be happy to have a beloved team join the game, right? They did, but maybe not for the reasons the creators thought they would.Mister Fantastic brought much-needed comedic and physics-bending action to the battlefield, but it was the Invisible Woman who really caught everyones attention, and maybe even took their attention away from other things. A surge of interest happened that even the seasoned devs at NetEase and Marvel Games were caught off guard. Not because of her amazing abilities to become invisible and create force fields, but rather because there was something else about Sue Storms debutthat was making a lot of noise.Marvel Rivals devs shocked at 3,000% search rate for Invisible Woman at Season 1 launchThe Fantastic Four have been in a lot of comic books over the years, but their movies have been hit or miss. Youd think that when they got to Marvel Rivals, everyone would be excited, maybe talking about how well they work together or what special powers they have. But something changed the point of view, specifically of one team member and how she is designed in the game.Invisible Womans Malice skin blew up the internet upon its reveal. Image by VideoGamer. As Danny Koo, executive producer at Marvel Games, told PC Gamer at GDC, When we announced Fantastic Four, the Google searches for Invisible Woman went up 3,000% in that period. Theres a huge increase in sudden, intense interest that points to something other than a fresh appreciation for Sue Storms comic book roots. Lets face it: Marvel Rivals is known for having detailed character models. It took a lot of work from the creators to make these heroes look good, move around, and, well, look like they do in comic books, and sometimes even more. So, when the Invisible Womans Malice outfit was released, it didnt just make people look twice. It showed a more confident and visually striking version of the character. It led to a huge number of Google searches, a thousand memes, and a huge number of forum posts. Of course, the devs wont say it out loud. Theyll talk about how the game works and how to make sure that each character is balanced. But the internet knew exactly what was going on. A figure that looks great, a costume that shows a lot, and fans who already like it. Theres a recipe for online fame in that.Through the lens of social media and online communities, this is an interesting example of how one character design can totally overshadow even the best-laid game plans. The Marvel Rivals team probably expected to talk about how Invisible Woman could be used strategically. Instead, they got a viral hit, which shows how unpredictable, often funny, and undeniably powerful online fans can be.Marvel RivalsPlatform(s):macOS, PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series XGenre(s):Fighting, ShooterRelated TopicsMarvel Rivals Subscribe to our newsletters!By subscribing, you agree to our Privacy Policy and may receive occasional deal communications; you can unsubscribe anytime.Share

Helldivers 2 wont add hats on helmets despite already doing that
You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games hereThe new Helldivers 2 Borderline Justice Warbond is clearly inspired by the wild west and cowboys. While Arrowhead have said players can look and feel like a space cowboy by donning the new armor and weapons, some players wish Arrowhead wouldve added cowboy hats. In response, the Helldivers 2 CCO has said the developer wont add hats on helmets, despite this having already happened with a previous Warbond.Helldivers 2 CCO says Arrowhead wont add hats on helmetsFollowing the release of the Helldivers 2 Borderline Justice Warbond, some HD2 players have been asking Arrowhead for cowboy hats. Despite being on a break from development, Arrowhead CCO, Johan Pilestedt, replied to the request on X and said, I agree that it would be awesome, but I think it would break the fantasy of helldivers. people dont wear hats on helmets.Image credit: @Pilestedt on XReacting to Pilestedts response, players on Reddit pointed out that Arrowhead already added hats on helmets before with the Viper Commandos Warbond. This is an exception to the rule, but its still proof against Pilestedts claim. Not wanting to break the fantasy of helldivers is an understandable stance, and its why Arrowhead have previously stated they dont want to crossover with any IP just because its a big franchise such as Star Wars. However, on Reddit, quite a few players disagree with Pilestedts stance about the cowboy hats. As stated by one user, Piles, my friend, one of the armors is just a leather jacket with a big ol sheriff woody star on it, a full on bullet bandolier belt with a six shooter holster, and riding boots with spurs. There is absolutely no more room left to say anything about breaking the fantasy or ruining the immersion.Another comment said, The fantasy is already broken with the sheriffs clothes. At least break it like you should instead of just 2/3rds of it. Some argued that the hat in the Viper Commandos Warbond is appropriate because its miltary, but to this another user pointed out, Brim hats are very military, just depends on country and time in history. The disappointment in not getting cowboy hats is understandable, but the armor in the Borderline Justice Warbond still looks incredible, and the weapons are amazing, too. Hopefully Arrowhead will show some more leniency in the future, but they do have a tightrope to balance in wanting to deliver content that is fun and still feels thematically appropriate. From Gert Voorjans, Barber Osgerby, and More: 8 Design Collabs Were Loving Right Now
If the markets latest debuts have any lesson to tell, its that the design community indeed works better together. From Barber Osgerbys elegantly planar candlesticks for Puiforcat to Beata Heumans go-to palette of Mylands paints, industry brands across categories are coming together to bring thoughtful new offerings to designers tool kits. Looking for the latest in furniture, decor, lighting, and beyond? Completed by Le Corbusier in 1931, the modernist reinforced concrete marvel seemingly floats, propped up by slender stilts. These pillars, known as pilotis, informed the design of Barber Osgerbys candlesticks and candelabra in a collection of the same name for French silversmith Puiforcat. To emphasize the sleek, solid silver silhouettes, the London-based industrial design studio played with right angles and curves and incorporated geometric rectangles into circular bases that seemingly vanish from different perspectives.Shop the CollectionGert Voorjans x Carpet SocietyPhoto: Thibault De SchepperGert Voorjans x Carpet SocietyPhoto: Thibault De SchepperGert Voorjans x Carpet SocietyWhen renovating the soon-to-open Shangri-La Hangzhou hotel, Antwerp-based Gert Voorjans was entranced by its proximity to scenic West Lake.
