  • Nvidia GTC 2025: What to expect from this years show
    techcrunch.com
GTC, Nvidias biggest conference of the year, begins Monday and runs till Friday in San Jose. TechCrunch will be on the ground covering the news as it happens and were expecting a healthy dose of announcements.CEO Jensen Huang will give a keynote address at the SAP Center on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Pacific, focusing on what else? AI and accelerating computing technologies, according to Nvidia. The company is also teasing reveals related to robotics, sovereign AI, AI agents, and automotive plus 1,000 sessions with 2,000 speakers and close to 400 exhibitors.Heres how to watch the Nvidia GTC 2025 keynote online, along with many other sessions, talks, and panels. So what do we expect to see at GTC? Well, Nvidia typically reserves a big chunk of the conference for GPU-related debuts. A new, upgraded iteration of the companys Blackwell chip lineup seems likely.During Nvidias most recent earnings call, Huang confirmed that the upcoming Blackwell B300 series, codenamed Blackwell Ultra, is slated for release in the second half of this year. In addition to higher computing performance, Blackwell Ultra cards pack more memory (288GB), an attractive feature for customers looking to run and train memory-hungry AI models. Rubin, Nvidias next-gen GPU series, is almost certain to get a mention at GTC alongside Blackwell Ultra. Due out in 2026, Rubin promises to deliver what Huang has described as a big, big, huge step up in computing power.Huang said during the aforementioned Nvidia earnings call that hed talk about post-Rubin products at GTC, as well. That could be Rubin Ultra GPUs, or perhaps the GPU architecture thatll come after the Rubin family.Beyond GPUs, Nvidia may illuminate its approach to recent quantum computing advancements. The company has scheduled a quantum day for GTC, during which itll host execs from prominent companies in the space to [map] the path toward useful quantum applications. One things for sure: Nvidia could use a win. Early Blackwell cards reportedly suffered from severe overheating issues, causing customers to cut their orders. U.S. export controls and fears of tariffs have massively depressed Nvidias stock price in recent months. At the same time, the success of Chinese AI lab DeepSeek, which developed efficient models competitive with models from leading AI labs, has prompted investors to worry about the demand for powerful GPUs like Blackwell. Huang has asserted that DeepSeeks rise to prominence will in fact be a net positive for Nvidia because itll accelerate the broader adoption of AI technology. He has also pointed to the growth of power-hungry so-called reasoning models like OpenAIs o1 as Nvidias next mountain to climb. To be clear, Nvidia isnt exactly hurting. The company reported a record-breaking quarter in February, notching $39.3 billion in revenue and projecting $43 billion in revenue for the subsequent quarter. While rivals such as AMD have begun to encroach on the companys territory, Nvidia still commands an estimated 82% of the GPU market.

  • Foster + Partners reveal replacement stadium for Manchester Uniteds Old Traffordmany Reds arent happy
    www.archpaper.com
For many, Old Trafford warrants no introductionManchester Uniteds hallowed home base was completed in 1910 by Scottish architect Archibald Leitch, and later helmed by legendary socialist manager Matt Busby. The theatre of dreams was bombed in World War II, stayed standing, hosted Georgie Best, and survived 1974 relegation. The Reds chant: We are the Busby Boys; I belong, To Old Trafford; and We shall not be moved inside and outside the arena walls on match day.A new residential neighborhood would go up around the stadium, replete with 17,000 homes. (Courtesy Foster + Partners)All of this history may soon go by way of the wrecking ball, however.Manchester United released renderingsof a new $2.6 billion stadium designed by Foster + Partners. Old Trafford currently seats 75,000 people; the proposed one by Lord Norman Foster would host 100,000.Not only would there be a new stadium, but the area surrounding Old Trafford would be revamped. A new central plaza, that according to Foster, could measure twice the size of Trafalgar Square would accompany the alternative venue. Foster + Partners is behind both the replacement stadium and masterplan.Writing in Tribune Mag, George Baker, founding member of FC United of Manchester, a coalition of fans who oppose Old Traffords demolition, rightfully noted the club owners have racked up exorbitant debts, leaving many to wonder: Can Manchester actually afford this?A Corporate Theme ParkToday, Old Trafford is bound by a highway to its north, and a rail yard to its south. Its east and west are flanked by parking lots and light industry. Fans often pour in from pubs and residential neighborhoods beyond from Sir Matt Busby Way, the Metrolink, or Salford Quays on match days.Old Trafford is bound by light industry, rail lines, roads, and lowrise residential neighborhoods. (Arne Mseler/Wikimedia Commons/CC BY-SA 3.0)Renderings by Foster + Partners show the new Manchester United stadium defined by three spires that rise up far into the sky, strung together with an umbrella membrane. These spires, Foster, said will ascend over 650 feet and be visible from 40 miles away. The surrounding neighborhood would have 17,000 new homes, in addition to office and retail spaces. Old Traffords demolition is backed by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham and the Glazer family, who has had a stake in ownership of Manchester United since 2003. Theyve since made many enemies; tickets typically go for 66 a pop, making the stadium out of reach for many from the fast gentrifying city. The proposed approach toward the stadium on a busy game day. (Courtesy Foster + Partners)Not only that, but the team today flat out stinks; it hasnt been this bad since 1974, when they were relegated. [Manchester United] has been lucrative for the Glazers, but their off-field profitability has been overshadowed by on-field futility, ESPN columnist Mark Ogden said last month.George Baker shares Ogdens ire: The proposed demolition of Old Trafford to build a corporate theme park that could have been designed by Homer Simpson is another sad example of billionaires kidnapping footballand destroying something special about Manchesterin the name of profit, he lamented after the renderings were shared. The new venue could also host concerts. (Courtesy Foster + Partners)The Other SideSir Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United co-owner, said the project is needed because our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the past 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport.By building next to the existing site, Ratcliffe added, we will be able to preserve the essence of Old Trafford, while creating a truly state-of-the-art stadium that transforms the fan experience, only footsteps from our historic home. Norman Foster shares Ratcliffes enthusiasm, despite fan pushback. This has to be one of the most exciting projects in the world today, with incredible regional and national significance, Foster said. It all starts with the fans experience, bringing them closer than ever to the pitch and acoustically cultivating a huge roar.Foster pointed to his own familys history and relationship to the site when describing his design: My father was a factory worker at Metropolitan-Vickers, he said, a factory just across the way from Old Trafford. One hundred thousand spectators and fans could fit into the proposed stadium. (Courtesy Foster + Partners)Foster has said the new stadium can be built in five years, so by 2030. He said this fast turnaround can happen thanks to prefabricating elements of the stadium off site, and then transporting them to the grounds through the Manchester Ship Canal in 160 component pieces. Ratcliffe added this strategy would cut construction time in half.Ratcliffe, however, didnt give a specific project timeline. He said: It depends how quickly the Government get going with their regeneration. I think they want to get going quite quickly. I assume that will go well.

NOAAWeather Forecast For The Total Lunar Eclipse 2025Although there won't be clear skies across the entirety of North America, a lot of regions will have a great chance of seeing some or all of the spectacle. Here are the prospects, according to Accuweather:The Best Weather For The Total Lunar Eclipse 2025Clear skies are expected in the center of the U.S. from Texas through the Midwest and to the Ohio Valley and part of northern New England ironically, thats almost exactly where the path of totality was during last years total solar eclipse.Reasonable Weather For The Total Lunar Eclipse 2025Some clouds are expected across the southeast, along the East Coast and in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. That's OK because although the entire event takes about five hours, it's only totality and arguably the partial phases either side that you need to see. Even then, even just a brief glimpse will suffice. Since totality lasts 65 minutes and the partial phases last about 75 minutes on either side, that's a long observing window. The Worst Weather For The Total Lunar Eclipse 2025The western regions of North America look set to miss out, with a storm system bringing unsettled weather, including rain, snow in the mountains and lots of clouds to the West Coast, Rocky Mountains, northern Plains and Canadian Prairies.A map showing where the March 13-14, 2025 lunar eclipse is visible. The entire spectacle is safe to watch with the naked eye because it doesnt get any brighter than a full moon. The great thing about a lunar eclipse is its perfectly safe to look at, said Dr. Robert Massey, Deputy Executive Director of the Royal Astronomical Society. At maximum brightness, when the moon isnt eclipsed at all, its only as bright as the full Moon [so] you can enjoy it with your eyes, or better still pick up a pair of binoculars and look at it through those.Wishing you clear skies and wide eyes.

  • Big AI Inference Has Become A Big Deal And A Bigger Business
    www.forbes.com
Cerebras has dramatically increased the size of its AI cloud to support inference demand.Cerebras SystemsThanks to innovations like DeepSeek, training AI has become cheaper. However, inference is becoming more demanding as we ask AI to think harder before answering our questions. Nvidia, Groq, and Cerebras Systems (clients of Cambrian-AI Research) have all released massive accelerators and infrastructure to support this trend. I suspect we will see more from Nvidia about inference next week than training, including clouds, robots, and cars. Jensen Huang has said this reasoning style of inference processing is 100 times more computationally demanding. I found in a recent experiment that reasoning can be even 200 times more expensive but far more intelligent and more valuable!Cerebras Takes Inference To a New LevelCerebras Systems, the creator of wafer-scale, Frisbee-sized AI chips, has rolled out a plan to build six new data centers since entering the "high-value token business. The company claims it will become the largest provider of such inference services globally by the end of this year. The new data centers are partially up and running today and will soon expand to France and Canada. The aggregate capacity of these systems, which will number in the thousands, will exceed 40 million Llama 70B tokens per second.High-value tokens carry more contextual information and are typically more important for understanding the overall meaning of a text. They often represent key concepts, rare words, or specialized terminology. High-value tokens consume more computational resources and may cost more to process. This is because they typically require more attention from the model and contribute more significantly to the final output. Low-value tokens, which are more common and less informationally dense, usually require fewer processing resources. Clearly, Cerebras is targeting problems that are a good fit for its wafer-scale approach to AI.Cerebras is 30 times faster and 90% cheaper.Cerebras and Artificial AnalysisThis level of performance in delivering high-value tokens is attracting new enterprise customers that also need elastic services to meet their needs. AlphaSense, for example, a leading market intelligence platform, has moved to Cerebras Inference, replacing a top-three closed-source AI model provider. The company has also landed Perplexity, Mistral, Hugging Face, and other users of high-value inferencing, delivering inference performance 10 to 20 times faster than alternatives. The Inference Revolution is Just BeginningNext week, we will hear more about high-value tokens from Nvidia at GTC, as the inference market overtakes training in global revenue. Markets such as autonomous vehicles, robots, and sovereign data centers all depend on fast inference, and Nvidia does not plan to let that market pass them by. The high-value concept is new, and platforms like Cerebras and Nvidia LVL72 are ideal for delivering it.Follow me onTwitter or LinkedIn.Check outmywebsite.Disclosures: This article expresses the opinions of the author and is not to be taken as advice to purchase from or invest in the companies mentioned.
