I stopped blaming my internet provider and started modifying my setup. Here's what worked.

The cloud has changed everything. It’s faster, cheaper, and easier to scale than traditional infrastructure. Initially, most companies chose a single cloud provider. That’s no longer enough. Now, nearly 86% of businesses use more than one cloud. This approach—called multi-cloud—lets teams choose the best features from each provider. But it also opens the door to new security risks. When apps, data, and tools are scattered across platforms, managing security gets harder. And in today's world of constant cyber threats, ignoring cloud security is not an option. Let’s walk through real-world challenges and the best ways to protect business data in a multi-cloud environment. 1. Know What You’re Working With Start with visibility. Make a full inventory of the cloud platforms, apps, and storage your business uses. Ask every department—marketing, finance, HR—what tools they’ve signed up for. Many use services without informing IT. This is shadow IT, and it’s risky. Once you have the list, figure out what data lives where. Some workloads are low-risk. Others involve customer records, credit card data, or legal files. Prioritize those. 2. Build a Unified Security Strategy One of the biggest mistakes companies make is treating each cloud provider as a separate system. Every provider has its own rules, tools, and settings. If your security strategy is broken up, gaps will appear. Instead, aim for a single, connected approach. Use the same access rules, encryption standards, and monitoring tools across all clouds. You don’t want different policies on AWS and Azure—it just invites trouble. Tools like centralized dashboards, SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), and SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) help you keep everything in one place. 3. Enforce Strict Access Controls In a multi-cloud world, identity and access control are one of the hardest things to get right. Every platform has its own login system. Without proper integration, mistakes happen. Someone might get more access than they need, or never lose access when they leave the company. Stick to these practices: Use role-based access control. Limit permissions to the bare minimum. Turn on multi-factor authentication. Link logins across platforms using identity federation. The more consistent your access rules are, the easier it is to control who gets in and what they can do. 4. Use the Zero Trust Model Zero Trust means never assume anything is safe. Every user, device, and app must prove itself—every time. Even if a user is on your network, don’t trust them by default. This model reduces risk. It checks each request. It verifies users. And it looks for signs of abnormal behavior, like someone logging in from a new device or country. Zero Trust works well with automation and real-time monitoring. It also forces teams to rethink how data is shared and accessed. 5. Encrypt Data—Always Encryption is a basic but powerful layer of defense. It protects data whether it’s sitting in storage or moving between systems. If attackers get in, encrypted data is useless without the keys. Most cloud platforms offer built-in encryption. But don’t rely only on that. You can manage your own keys with tools like AWS KMS or Azure Key Vault. That gives you more control. To stay safe: Encrypt both at rest and in transit. Avoid default settings. Rotate encryption keys regularly. 6. Monitor in Real Time Security is not a one-time task. You need to watch your systems around the clock. Set alerts for things like large file downloads, unusual logins, or traffic spikes. Centralized monitoring helps a lot. It pulls logs from all your platforms and tools into one place. That way, your security team isn’t flipping between dashboards when something goes wrong. Also, use automation to filter out noise and surface real threats faster. 7. Set Up Regular Audits and Compliance Checks Multi-cloud setups are great for flexibility, but complex when it comes to compliance. Each platform has its own set of controls and certifications. Managing them all can be overwhelming. That’s why audits matter. Run security checks on a regular schedule—monthly, quarterly, or after every major change. Look for misconfigured permissions, missing patches, or unsecured data. And document everything. Also, make sure your tools help meet regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, or PCI DSS. Automated compliance scans can help stay on top of this. 8. Prevent Data Loss with Smart Policies Sensitive data is always at risk. Employees might share it by mistake. Attackers might try to steal it. That’s where Data Loss Prevention (DLP) comes in. DLP tools block unauthorized sharing of personal data, financial records, or internal files. You can create rules like “Don’t send customer SSNs over email” or “Block uploads of credit card data to personal drives.” DLP also supports compliance and helps avoid lawsuits or fines when accidents happen. 9. Automate Where You Can Manual work slows things down, and mistakes happen. That’s why automation is key in cloud security. Automate things like: Patch management Access reviews Backup schedules Security alerts Automation speeds up your response time. It also frees your security team to focus on serious issues, not routine tasks. 10. Centralized Security Control One major downside of multi-cloud isa lack of visibility. If you’re jumping between different tools for each cloud, you miss things. Instead, use a centralized security management system. It collects data from all clouds, shows risk levels, flags issues, and helps you fix them from one place. This unified view makes a huge difference. It helps you react faster and stay ahead of threats. Final Thought Cloud providers have made data storage and computing easier than ever. But with great power comes risk. Using multiple clouds gives more choice, but also more responsibility. Most businesses today are not ready. Only 15% have a mature multi-cloud security plan, says the 2023 Cisco Cyber Security Readiness Index. That means many are exposed. The good news? You can fix this. Start with simple steps. Know what you use. Lock it down. Watch it closely. Keep improving. And above all, treat cloud security not as a technical box to check, but as something critical to your business. Because in today’s world, a single breach can shut you down. And that’s too big a risk to ignore.

You can find that here, and we've also got hands-on impressions of Mario Kart World and Nintendo Switch Welcome Tour.‌Mario Kart World is Nintendo's big Switch 2 launch title(Image: Nintendo)When powering on your Switch 2, you'll need to connect to the internet to download the all-important firmware update that turns it from a pricey paperweight into a nifty console.The console will also introduce you to some of its features and prompt you to add a MicroSD Express card (doing so will format it so it's ready for use).Article continues belowYou can complete the setup with any version of the Switch 2 controllers, and you'll be prompted to start a system transfer from your original console if you have one.We'd recommend doing so, because it'll transfer your saved data to your new system, but it does come with an inconvenience tied to our biggest Switch 2 bugbear so far: painfully slow download speeds.Logging into the console and updating the firmware took about 20 minutes, but downloads move glacially slow.‌Add to that the console trying to download everything from your Switch 1 at once, and I had to spend a few minutes closing downloads down.Even the more modestly-sized games like Puyo Puyo Tetris were dragging on my gigabit Wi-Fi, although I'd imagine it's down to the 'pipes being clogged' as far as servers go.Still, if you're planning to play anything tonight, you might want to stick to physical media for a bit.Article continues belowWhile the Joy-Con are great, I'm massively impressed by the Pro Controller. Estébanez bring us another miracle of rendering via GH-102552: shader baker exporting. This is an optional feature that can be enabled at export time to speed up shader compilation massively. This feature works with ubershaders automatically without any work from the user. Using shader baking is strongly recommended when targeting Apple devices or D3D12 since it makes the biggest difference there (over 20× decrease in load times in the TPS demo)!Before:After:However, it comes with tradeoffs:Export time will be much longer.Build size will be much larger since the baked shaders can take up a lot of space.We have removed several MoltenVK bug workarounds from the Forward+ shader, therefore we no longer guarantee support for the Forward+ renderer on Intel Macs. If you are targeting Intel Macs, you should use the Mobile or Compatibility renderers.Baking for Vulkan can be done from any device, but baking for D3D12 needs to be done from a Windows device and baking for Apple .metallib requires a Metal compiler (macOS with Xcode / Command Line Tools installed).Web: WebAssembly SIMD supportAs you might recall, Godot 4.0 initially released under the assumption that multi-threaded web support would become the standard, and only supported that format for web builds. This assumption unfortunately proved to be wishful thinking, and was reverted in 4.3 by allowing for single-threaded builds once more. However, this doesn’t mean that these single-threaded environments are inherently incapable of parallel processing; it just requires alternative implementations. One such implementation, SIMD, is a perfect candidate thanks to its support across all major browsers. To that end, web-wiz Adam Scott has taken to integrating this implementation for our web builds by default (GH-106319).Inline color pickersWhile it’s always been possible to see what kind of variable is assigned to an exported color in the inspector, some users have expressed a keen interest in allowing for this functionality within the script editor itself. This is because it would mean seeing what kind of color is represented by a variable without it needing to be exposed, as well as making it more intuitive at a glance as to what color a name or code corresponds to. Koliur Rahman has blessed us with this quality-of-life goodness, which adds an inline color picker GH-105724. Now no matter where the color is declared, users will be able to immediately and intuitively know what is actually represented in a non-intrusive manner.Rendering goodiesThe renderer got a fair amount of love this snapshot; not from any one PR, but rather a multitude of community members bringing some long-awaited features to light. Raymond DiDonato helped SMAA 1x make its transition from addon to fully-fledged engine feature (GH-102330). Capry brings bent normal maps to further enhance specular occlusion and indirect lighting (GH-89988). Our very own Clay John converted our Compatibility backend to use a fragment shader copy instead of a blit copy, working around common sample rate issues on mobile devices (GH-106267). Given the number of phishing scams we have all faced over the past decade, most of us have developed a basic skill to spot and avoid obvious phishing emails or SMS messages. Cybercriminals are aware of this, and they have evolved their tactics by shifting to more complex and convincing schemes designed to bypass skepticism and lure victims.Their goal remains the same: to trick you into handing over sensitive information, especially credit card data. One of the latest examples is the rise in subscription scam campaigns. Scammers are creating incredibly convincing websites selling everything from shoes and clothes to electronics, tricking people into signing up for monthly subscriptions and willingly providing their credit card information. Facebook is being used as the primary platform to promote these new and sophisticated scams. These sites, often promoted through Facebook ads, sell everything from clothes and electronics to beauty products, but the real goal is to trick users into signing up for recurring payments, often without realizing it.One of the most common lures is the "mystery box" scam, where you are promised a surprise package at a bargain price. These offers are made to look fun and harmless, but behind the scenes you are giving away personal and credit card information while unknowingly agreeing to hidden subscription terms, often written in tiny fine print.The scam doesn’t stop there. Once you’re convinced and reach the checkout page, scammers often layer in a second scam, like loyalty cards or VIP memberships that further lock you into payments. It’s all designed to confuse you, overwhelm you with supposed perks and make the scam feel like a good deal.Researchers found that many of these websites share a single Cyprus address, possibly tied to offshore entities linked to the Paradise Papers. Despite being spread across different categories and brand names, the sites often use the same layouts, AI agents and payment structures, all pointing to a centralized fraud network.Scammers frequently rotate the brands they impersonate and have started moving beyond mystery boxes, now peddling low-quality products, counterfeit goods, fake investment schemes, dubious supplements and more. To avoid automatic detection, they employ several tactics. These include running multiple versions of an ad, with only one of which is actually malicious while the others display harmless product images, uploading ad images from platforms like Google Drive so they can be swapped out later and cropping visuals to alter recognizable patterns. These scams now feature fake surveys, tiered "VIP" memberships and deceptive credit systems that make the purchase process intentionally confusing. Users are promised deep discounts or access to exclusive deals, but in reality they’re just being locked into recurring payments.Many of the scam websites trace back to the same physical address in Cyprus, pointing to what appears to be a centralized operation. Researchers also found links to entities mentioned in the Paradise Papers, suggesting these fraudsters are hiding behind offshore infrastructure.And it’s not just mystery boxes anymore. The same scam format is being used to sell low-quality goods, fake supplements and even bogus investment opportunities. With high-quality site design, aggressive advertising and increasingly sophisticated tactics, subscription scams are becoming the new face of online fraud. Here are ten proactive measures to help keep your data safe:1) Always read the fine print: One of the simplest yet most effective ways to protect yourself from subscription scams is to slow down and read the fine print, especially on checkout pages. Instead, look up the brand or offer in a separate tab and check if it exists outside social media.4) Investigate before you buy: Before purchasing from any unfamiliar site, take a few quick steps to verify its legitimacy. Search the brand's name alongside words like "scam" or "reviews" to see what others have experienced. Look up the company's physical address and check if it actually exists using tools like Google Maps. Make sure the website uses HTTPS, review the site's contact information and cross-check reviews on trusted third-party sites like the Better Business Bureau or Consumer Reports.5) Use strong antivirus software: Adding a strong antivirus program to your devices can provide an extra layer of defense against fraudulent websites and phishing attempts. The original Switch is still a better option than the Switch 2 – Reader’s Feature GameCentral Published June 1, 2025 1:00am The Switch 1 isn’t going anywhere (Nintendo) A reader argues that the original Switch will still be relevant even after the Switch 2 launches, and that for some it will be the preferred choice. I haven’t been playing games as much as I did, say, three years ago, mainly because I’ve found interest in other things, such as reading and creating content. However, I still delve into games and my love for Nintendo is still there, but I did consider parting with some of my gaming collection – which is mostly a curated list of mainly Nintendo games and consoles. I did see the announcement of the Switch 2 in early April and initially I was hyped for it but I think that has subsided somewhat, mainly due to the pricing of both the consoles and games; I am still going to be receiving it day one though. I don’t think Nintendo has done themselves any favours though and the landscape has changed, with regards to mobile gaming in general, with the advent of the Steam Deck and other options from different manufacturers which makes this a crowded market. [The Steam Deck has only sold around 4 million units worldwide, compared to over 150 million for the Switch, and yet it’s still the most successful of the PC handhelds – GC] I find myself purchasing games on Steam vs. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. In fact, I ended up parting ways with my Xbox Series X and am considering the same with my PlayStation 5, as I mainly play games in portable form, with the Steam Deck and Switch being enough for me. With Nintendo it is mainly the first party titles that I would purchase on Switch 2, but it will make me think twice due to the price tag on the games (£60+) and with Nintendo the pricing of their games don’t really go on sale that much, if at all. I know a lot of people are still considering getting rid of their original Switch in favour of the Switch 2, however I think it is still relevant in 2025 and beyond. Games, Games, Games With over 10,000 games, the Switch has a diverse library of titles. I love the fact the I have a big and robust library of physical games that I can play for years to come. The pricing on new games are anywhere between £25 to £50, with Zelda being the exception at £60 to £70. A lot of third party games you can pick up on sale. A lot of games are physical and most come with the game on the actual cartridge, so even in the future, if Nintendo decide to pull the eShop for the original Switch, you can still play games offline. Games are still being released for the original Nintendo Switch for the foreseeable future. It will stop being supported one day but there is still plenty to choose from, both used, digital, and new. I truly believe that the Switch 2 won’t be as popular as the first Switch, mainly due to pricing £60+ on games and switching their strategy on physical games, with partial downloads or game key cards, which in theory is easily shareable but having to download the entire game isn’t the most user friendly and there is still a reliance on the digital ecosystem. Backwards Compatibility Watching a YouTube video by ModernVintageGamer, I’ve come to learn that backwards compatibility with Switch 2 isn’t all it is cracked up to be. Nintendo is fully supporting backwards compatibility with most of their games, however third parties are left to patch games on their own discretion due to different system architecture in comparison to the original Switch. So it will be a bit hit and miss, more than likely they would rather release another ‘remastered’ version which they can sell to consumers again, rather than patch games. Also, bearing in mind some publishers don’t want the costs associated with patching a game. Different consoles At this stage in the original Switch’s lifecycle there are a bunch of form factors to choose from. I have all three and use them in different environments; my Switch OLED gets used at home in portable mode and connected to the TV, while the original Switch is good for family party gaming, which I take around for family gatherings. The Switch Lite is small and portable and that it is great for single-player games with the cross-key but also great for travelling and going on holidays. You can pick up the Switch Lite for dirt cheap now, used, and I expect prices to fall further whilst they clear stock. Simultaneous play I haven’t seen too much details around this but Nintendo did announce original Switch compatibility with the Nintendo Switch 2 to allow for simultaneous multiplayer gaming with one cartridge, so that Nintendo Switch 2 acts as the main (host) console whilst the original Switch can be used for multiplayer gaming. So in essence you can all play Mario Kart from one Switch 2 console, by having your own screen, similar to the Wii U. I think this will be valuable for me with family gatherings, as most of us have Switches. Cost So, I did mention costs for games earlier. However, as the original Switch has matured there are a plethora of cheap accessories that can be had on the cheap, compared to Switch 2, such as extra Joy-Cons, controllers, games, cheap microSD cards, plus others. Best Nintendo console? I still love my Switch, and it won’t be going anywhere, and I think it is Nintendo’s best console in the past 20 years. I have a special place in my heart for the NES, SNES, Game Boy and GameCube, as being S-tier consoles but I think the Switch could be argued as being their best console. Ask me on a random day and my answer will probably change, because Nintendo have created timeless consoles as far as I am concerned, so it is difficult to choose one. But the original Switch makes a compelling choice especially for the younger generation.
