Check out how we test and review games hereCapcoms Monster Hunter Wilds might be a beast on PC, but the games sloppy performance hasnt stopped gamers from eating it up on Steam.Wilds success on PC is no secret. With almost 1.2 million concurrent players on Steam at release, it was clear that PC players helped Capcoms game become the companys most successful launch of all time. However, thats only half of the story.Monster Hunter Wilds dominates on PCAccording to industry analyst firm Circana, Monster Hunter Wilds on PC was the best-selling game of February 2025 across all platforms. The massive release of the latest game in Capcoms long-running series was more than double that of its predecessor: Monster Hunter Rise.More interesting is the fact that Capcoms latest launch was a massive hit with PC players more so than console players. Despite the games performance issues and its near-unplayable state on Steam Deck, Steam still accounted for more than half of the games sales. This trend continued with other major hits in February including Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Civilization 7. While console releases are still a major part of developers plans, its clear that PC is rising to heights the platform hasnt seen in a long, long time.Of course, the rapid rise of PC market share in the last decade isnt that surprising. With major console exclusives like Spider-Man 2 and Halo Infinite coming to PC months after or even on day one, PC is the place where nearly every game will eventually be. While the price of entry is higher, the decades of titles available to players is also never-ending.Nevertheless, console owners are still in for their own particular treats. While publisher Take-Two admits that PC releases are more important than ever, GTA 6 will not be releasing on the platform until sometime after the games console launch. Considering how long it took Rockstar to bring PS5 and Xbox Series features to PC, thats not surprising at all.Outside of Nintendo, its clear that the console market is failing to hold onto the dominance that has moulded the games industry since, well, forever. With PC almost firmly in the number one slot, theres a brand-new industry on the way.Monster Hunter WildsPlatform(s):PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox Series XGenre(s):Action RPGSubscribe to our newsletters!By subscribing, you agree to our Privacy Policy and may receive occasional deal communications; you can unsubscribe anytime.Share

And if this dish really speaks to you, just know its part of a larger oyster-themed collectionSIN Handmade Oyster PlatterOn the other hand, you could opt for this classic, streamlined porcelain option. • People Are Using AI to Create Influencers With Down Syndrome Who Sell Nudes. Instagrams unwillingness to moderate AI-generated content finds a new low.
    www.404media.co
A network of Instagram accounts is using AI to steal content from human creators and deepfake their faces to make them look like they have Down syndrome. 404 Media was able to determine the accounts are linked because they reuse Instagram bios, videos, and in some cases link to the same OnlyFans competitors pages where they monetize these videos.404 Media has written multiple stories on the rapidly growing practice of people stealing content from real human creators and using AI to replace their faces with AI-generated faces, posting that AI-modified content to Instagram, and funnelling viewers to adult content platforms where they can be monetized. What started as just a few accounts quickly evolved into an entire industry with specialized tools, advertising strategies, and influencers who sell courses on how to create these fake influencers to get rich quick through what they call AI pimping.Newer accounts in recent months have started catering to increasingly specific niches and fetishes, including accounts of AI-generated women with amputated limbs. The AI-generated Down syndrome accounts are the latest and newest low for Instagram, which allows the rampant content theft that enables this practice and is now fueling a non-consensual fetishization and monetization of (fake) people with disabilities. This post is for paid members onlyBecome a paid member for unlimited ad-free access to articles, bonus podcast content, and more.SubscribeSign up for free access to this postFree members get access to posts like this one along with an email round-up of our week's stories.SubscribeAlready have an account? • After beating Split Fiction's secret Laser Hell, a pair of streamers are getting a special "early look" at Hazelight's next game and we're not jealous at all

Laser Hell YeahAfter beating Split Fiction's secret Laser Hell, a pair of streamers are getting a special "early look" at Hazelight's next game and we're not jealous at all"You have to understand that there are barely people on our team that can make it [through this]."Image credit: Hazelight News by Mark Warren Senior Staff Writer Published on March 19, 2025 Here's a cool thing. A pair of Split Fiction streamers have recently beaten a secret ultra-hard challenge level in the game, unlocking a video that sees Hazelight's Josef Fares congratulate them and offer a special trip to come and get an "early look" at the studio's next game. Not only that, but having seen a clip of the achievement, the director's now confirmed that his studio's in the process of reaching out to the duo.If you've not heard of this secret challenge, dopn't feel too bad. It's called Laser Hell, and it seems like it's a thing not many folks outside of the hardest of the hardcore Split Fictioners - streamers, basically - have reached so far.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Anyway, you've missed your chance at immortality, as couple of Chinese streamers with the handles sharkOvO and E1uM4y, have seemingly become the first folks worldwide to beat it - unlocking the video from Fares himself that plays once you've parkoured your way into the final room and stepped on some pressure pads.As you can see in a clip from their stream below, shared via BiliBili, the level very much lives up to its name, featuring enough deadly security lasers to fill several heist movies, and requiring neither of you to be even the tiniest bit s**t and video games."Wow, amazing," video screen Fares says after clapping his way into existence like some kind of applause-based supervillain, "You have to understand that there are barely people on our team that can make it [through this]. It took us a lot of time to finish it and Im telling you that this is a crazy, crazy achievement that you have done."Im not talking to you guys who are looking [at] this on YouTube. If you see this on YouTube, you should go to the game, its a really hard challenge. But for those of you who are actually in the game seeing this video, I am super amazed. Im going to say one thing: if you see me in real life, somewhere, and you can prove to me that you actually did this challenge, I can promise you, the first one to do that, Im going to fly you to Sweden and show you footage of our next game." Nice. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. So, here's the chaser. "Congrats to sharkOvO and E1uM4y for finishing the secret challenge Laser Hell in Split Fiction," Fares has tweeted today, "VERY impressive! I will keep my promise and invite you both to Sweden for an early look [at] our next game. We'll be in touch!"It's still a mystery at this point what the pair will be seeing, as Hazelight's understandably not said much about what's next for it since releasing SF less that two weeks ago, but you love to see this kind of thing regardless.

  • Anyone mourning the poignant, meaningful feeling from Team Ico needs to check out Flow, the Oscar-winning film that beat Inside Out 2 and The Wild Robot
    www.vg247.com
Rising TideAnyone mourning the poignant, meaningful feeling from Team Ico needs to check out Flow, the Oscar-winning film that beat Inside Out 2 and The Wild RobotWe are all in the same boat and must overcome our differences to find ways to work together feels very apt in 2025.Image credit: VG247 Article by Dom Peppiatt Editor-in-chief Published on March 19, 2025 When I was ushered into a private screening of Flow, the animated Latvian adventure film created entirely in the free and open-source software, Blender, I was not expecting to come out of the cinema thinking of nothing but Team Ico and Fumito Ueda. I went into the film completely blind: all that I knew was that Flow had won an Oscar for best animated feature (pipping both The Wild Robot and Inside Out 2 to the post), and was completely dialogue-free.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Aside from a slightly rustic art direction that reminds me of something between a PS2 and PS3 game thanks to Blenders utilitarian style, theres just something about Flow that screams Team Ico. Maybe its in the emotive, bold storytelling that manages to convey more emotion than even the most verbose films, maybe its in the towering architecture and fantasy-meets-reality nature of the setting. But, either way, the film feels like it could be a companion to Uedas oeuvre - a cross-media homage to one of game developments greats. The story follows the journey of an expressive, often mischievous cat who is searching for safety and stability after its home is devastated by a flood. Though there is evidence of human life in the world, mankind is absent from the plot - only thumbprints of mans legacy on the world are left behind. Instead, our cast is comprised of a pack of dogs, a reticent capybara, a ring-tailed lemur, and winged creatures with unclear motives.Behind the anthropomorphic drama, theres a very clear message: community will help you survive. Maybe the film is about dismantling tribalism and finding safety and common ground with people outside your bubble, maybe its about how the only way we can survive on a doomed planet is by putting aside our differences and working together to build a better world. Maybe its simply about a cat that doesnt like water, and the ancient blood feud between canines and felines. Who knows? Uneasy alliances and found families take center stage in Flow. | Image credit: CurzonEither way, the wordlessness of Flow is part of its charm. Clocking in at 84 minutes, the film earns (nearly) every second of its on-screen time, and never feels like a drag - pretty impressive given that there is not one line of dialogue in the whole thing. Most of the communication is done through big, expressive eyes, easily-interpreted animal body language, and languid, reflective shots of the waterlogged world. The film took five and a half years to produce (another unconscious link to Ueda and Team Icos famously long gestation period, perhaps), and was figured out entirely without storyboards.Director Gints Zilbalodis and writer Matīss Kaža instead opted to place the 3D models of the animals in the work-in-progress environments within Blender, and "explore them with the camera. This is a pretty experimental process for an animated feature, and - to my eye - reads more like a game development technique than a film-making one.The result is emotive, raw, and intuitive. Our floating camera seems to flit between esteemed filmic cinematography, and adept video game floating eye. Our lens moves with confidence and precision as it banks, pans, and sweeps across oceanic horizons, entangled ruins choked with vines, and small atolls free from the suffocating, exponentially rising water. A ragtag bunch of misfits, but a good group. | Image credit: CurzonI cant find any evidence of either Zilbalodis or Kaža saying theyve played any Team Ico games (and I wasnt able to secure an interview), but to me, it seems so clear that Uedas influence is all over Flow. Whether its the visual language, the mature themes, the innovative use of animation, the innate understanding of animal psychology, or the grounded surrealism that permeates every pore of Flow, it feels like Japan Studios spirit lives on in this curious, exceptional film. I wasnt the only person saying this, either; when I left the screening (exclusively for games industry folks, granted), I heard almost every cluster of people mentioning Team Ico. A cursory Google will turn up Reddit threads linking Flow and Ueda. The link is clear for anyone with the eyes to see it.We are all in the same boat and must overcome our differences to find ways to work together, Zilbalodis emoted at the Oscars when he picked up his award. I feel like that hits upon something at the core of Flows soul - a message of unity in a world being drowned by negativity, fear, rage, disconnection. So, TL;DR? Theres a reason Flow won an Oscar, folks. And anyone that has even a passing interest in video games should check it out. After all, a rising tide lifts all ships, right?Flow appears in UK cinemas from March 21, 2025, and is distributed by Curzon.

  • Eight Months After GameStop Shut It Down, Game Informer Is Teasing A Comeback
    www.nintendolife.com
Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube799kAfter 33 years in the biz, the iconic publication Game Informer closed its doors last August with all of its staff laid off in the process. But now, eight months on, it seems that a comeback may be on the cards. At least, that's what is being teased by a recent video from the outlet. The short clip slowly zooms in on the site's final farewell message the one you can still find on the now mostly-defunct Game Informer website as some mysterious synths and chatter happen in the background.A glitching line of code appears at the bottom of the screen, stating {CONSOLE.WRITELINE(CONTINUE?;" before a 25th March 2025 date appears in front of a black background.Hmm. It's all very mysterious, particularly given the speed at which publication owner GameStop shut up the shop last year. Were the rights to the site bought out by another party? Has GS pulled a complete U-turn? We'll have to wait and see.One thing that's pretty clear so far is that a decent helping of the original Game Informer staff seem to be back on board. Former online content director Brian Shea posted a tease of his own on BlueSky, as did Marcus Stewart, Alex Van Aken, Wesley LeBlanc and more.Only time will tell what the publication and its former staff have in store, but damn, it's nice to hear some promising news from the industry for once! • Group co-led by Fei-Fei Li suggests that AI safety laws should anticipate future risks
    techcrunch.com
In a new report, a California-based policy group co-led by Fei-Fei Li, an AI pioneer, suggests that lawmakers should consider AI risks that have not yet been observed in the world when crafting AI regulatory policies. The 41-page interim report released on Tuesday comes from the Joint California Policy Working Group on Frontier AI Models, an effort organized by Governor Gavin Newsom following his veto of Californias controversial AI safety bill, SB 1047. While Newsom found that SB 1047 missed the mark, he acknowledged last year the need for a more extensive assessment of AI risks to inform legislators. In the report, Li, along with co-authors UC Berkeley College of Computing Dean Jennifer Chayes and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace President Mariano-Florentino Cullar, argue in favor of laws that would increase transparency into what frontier AI labs such as OpenAI are building. Industry stakeholders from across the ideological spectrum reviewed the report before its publication, including staunch AI safety advocates like Turing Award winner Yoshua Benjio as well as those who argued against SB 1047, such as Databricks Co-Founder Ion Stoica.According to the report, the novel risks posed by AI systems may necessitate laws that would force AI model developers to publicly report their safety tests, data acquisition practices, and security measures. The report also advocates for increased standards around third-party evaluations of these metrics and corporate policies, in addition to expanded whistleblower protections for AI company employees and contractors.Li et al. write theres an inconclusive level of evidence for AIs potential to help carry out cyberattacks, create biological weapons, or bring about other extreme threats. They also argue, however, that AI policy should not only address current risks, but anticipate future consequences that might occur without sufficient safeguards. For example, we do not need to observe a nuclear weapon [exploding] to predict reliably that it could and would cause extensive harm, the report states. If those who speculate about the most extreme risks are right and we are uncertain if they will be then the stakes and costs for inaction on frontier AI at this current moment are extremely high. The report recommends a two-pronged strategy to boost AI model development transparency: trust but verify. AI model developers and their employees should be provided avenues to report on areas of public concern, the report says, such as internal safety testing, while also being required to submit testing claims for third-party verification. While the report, the final version of which is due out in June 2025, endorses no specific legislation, its been well received by experts on both sides of the AI policymaking debate. Dean Ball, an AI-focused research fellow at George Mason University who was critical of SB 1047, said in a post on X that the report was a promising step for Californias AI safety regulation. Its also a win for AI safety advocates, according to California State Senator Scott Wiener, who introduced SB 1047 last year. Wiener said in a press release that the report builds on urgent conversations around AI governance we began in the legislature [in 2024].The report appears to align with several components of SB 1047 and Wieners follow-up bill, SB 53, such as requiring AI model developers to report the results of safety tests. Taking a broader view, it seems to be a much-needed win for AI safety folks, whose agenda has lost ground in the last year.Topics
