Baffled by the plethora of Outlook options out there? You aren't alone. Microsoft veteran Scott Hanselman posted a list of some more variants that could be used to do the same thing.It's a problem common to several Microsoft products. A file needs to be opened, but which app should be used? Should it be Outlook New, or Outlook (New)? With tongue firmly in cheek, Hanselman listed some more options: Outlook (Zero Sugar), Outlook (Caffeine Free), and so on.Hanselman, Developer Community veep at Microsoft, also included Outlook '95, although to our mind the peak came with the version of Outlook in Office 97. A happier, more trusting time when security was less important.While users can create multiple Outlook profiles to store email account details and data locations, Hanselman's post on Bluesky highlights an issue facing many users of Microsoft's software: which incarnation of the application to use.Teams users often find themselves presented with a variety of applications Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Teams (Personal), for example, can often appear side by side in the system tray.As for Outlook, users are likely to have multiple versions installed. Microsoft forced the new version onto devices as part of a Windows update and renamed the previous version to Outlook (Classic) so the pair could run side by side. While support for the Classic version of Outlook will persist until at least 2029, Microsoft would like users to move to the new version despite it lacking many of its predecessor's functions.According to Microsoft: "The new Outlook for Windows, built upon modern service architecture, is inspired by the Outlook web experience." It also does not support the COM add-ins used by many enterprises to glue corporate workflows together.Currently, the new Outlook is at the opt-in stage and is off by default. It will then proceed to an opt-out stage, where users must actively switch back to the Classic experience before the Cutover stage, after which reversal is no longer possible. Microsoft says it will give administrators at least 12 months' notice before this is implemented in production rings.Existing perpetual installations of classic Outlook "will continue to be supported until at least 2029," according to Microsoft.There is a cautionary tale about what happened when a soft drinks company tried to replace a well-liked product with a "new" version and renamed the previous preferred version as "classic."The list posted by Hanselman who is also notable for tips on managing Microsoft's personal information manager is amusing, but also highlights the perils of having multiple, similarly functioning options to do the same thing, and the potential for confusing users.Outlook (Stable and Fast) anyone?

As a ResetEra user's spotted, heading to the best selling pre-order randings of a while bunch of regional variants of the PlayStation Store will serve you some combination of Indy and FH5's various editions either locking out the top spots, or all pretty close to them.For instance, on the UK version of the store, Indy's standard edition currently leads the way, followed by its premium edition, with Forza's premium edition sitting third, while its standard edition sits fifth, behind Atomfall - which isn't an Xbox exclusive, but is hitting Game Pass day one. In the US, it's Indy premium ruling the roost, then regular Indy, with Forza premium anmd Forza regular following directly on to lock out the top four spots. That post I've linked also cites a fair few more countries where the rankings are similar, including Germany, France, and Canada.So, what does this mean? Well, that a bunch of people want to play these big games when they arrive on a new console as of April 17 (Indy) and April 29 (Forza). However, as I mentioned, it's also likely the result of Phil and co having great timing.In terms of PlayStation studio-developed stuff, the next couple of months are pretty damn quiet, with Days Gone Remastered being the sole exception on April 25. Meanwhile, the big releases that're aiming to dominate the summer on the console - your Doom: The Dark Ages, Elden Ring Nightreign and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach - are all currently at least a month and a bit away from release.So, while those games do feature heavily in these pre-order rankings just behind or in and around the Indys and Forzas, they're not quite at the point where they're gathering full pre-order steam right before dropping. So, Xbox's big stuff's more immediate competition right now is games like the aforementioned Atomfall, The First Berserker: Khazan, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 alongside Days Gone. All popular games you've almost definitely heard of, but not great big oxygen-soaking monsters at this point.That said, even with that being the case, Forza and Indy wouldn't be top without PS5 players having a serious appetite to play them, and why wouldn't they? YouTube is changing how it counts views on YouTube Shorts to give creators a deeper understanding of how their short-form content is performing, the company announced on Wednesday. Shorts views will now count the number of times a creators Short starts to play or replay. In the past, a view had been counted after a Short was viewed for a certain number of seconds. As a result of this change, view counts will be higher moving forward.YouTube says that its making the change because it heard that creators want to understand how often their Shorts are actually seen. The idea is that creators can now better showcase the full extent of their reach, making it easier to inform their content strategy and present their work to potential brand partners.With this update, YouTube Shorts will now align its metrics with those of TikTok and Instagram Reels, both of which track the number of times your video starts or replays. YouTube notes that creators will now be able to better understand how their short-form videos are performing across multiple platforms. Creators who are still interested in the original Shorts metric can view it by navigating to Advanced Mode within YouTube Analytics. The metric, now called engaged views, will continue to allow creators to see how many viewers choose to continue watching their Shorts. YouTube notes that the change wont impact creators earnings or how they become eligible for the YouTube Partner Program, as both of these factors will continue to be based on engaged views rather than the updated metric. The change goes into effect on March 31.

Since the integration of Google Assistant for Waze on iOS in 2020, iPhone users have faced ongoing issues that the company has struggled to resolve for over a year, Waze wrote in a post, apologizing for the prolonged inconvenience.On Wednesday, the navigation app officially discontinued the feature. Many users had reported on Reddit that when they click the microphone button and speak, there is no response, even though Assistant seems to detect their voice.As a replacement, the company plans to introduce an enhanced voice interaction solution sometime in the near future, as stated in a recent announcement on the official forum. Waze has also been testing an AI-powered Conversational Reporting feature since October 2024, allowing select users to report incidents using their voice.The timing of the change makes sense, as Google announced earlier this month that its transitioning more users from Assistant to Gemini. The tech giant intends to phase out Assistant on most mobile devices and in mobile app stores later this year.For now, Android users will continue to be able to use Google Assistant for Waze.
