  • The Return of Raidou: Atlus Upcoming Action RPG Remaster
    news.xbox.com
Get ready to unleash the supernatural in Atlus (Metaphor: ReFantazio, Shin Megami Tensei, Persona) upcoming action RPG, Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, launching June 19, 2025 on Xbox Series X|S.Raidou Remastered marks the triumphant return of 2006s Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army, a one-of-a-kind mystery spin-off within the legendary Shin Megami Tensei series. Originally released for the PlayStation 2, the game is set in a fictional Taisho-era Japan and combines action-packed gameplay with detective drama. Raidou Remastered is a faithful remaster of the iconic RPG, featuring an overhauled battle system, enhanced graphics and full VO in the main story. If you want more details about the original game and whats new in Raidou Remastered, you have come to the right place! Heres what you need to know.Story and CharactersThe story starts off with a bang! In Raidou Remastered, a young heiress approaches the Narumi Detective Agency with a strange requestto kill her. Before she can explain further, the girl is kidnapped and disappears without a trace. Apprentice detective Raidou Kuzunoha XIV, who moonlights as a Devil Summoner assigned to protect the Capital, is on the case. Raidous investigation takes him across the entire city, including the Dark Realm a dangerous, demon-filled juncture between the real world and the netherworld. As you unravel the mystery of Raidou Remastered, you will encounter many complex, suspicious and intriguing characters. My personal favorite is a black cat named Gouto, who accompanies Raidou as his mentor on on his missions and provides helpful advice throughout the investigation. Every Atlus game needs an adorable companion!Real-Time BattlesOne of Raidou Remastereds greatest features is its engaging real-time RPG combat, where youll need to utilize your wits AND your powers to succeed. One key element to success in combat is the skillful utilization of MAG (Magnetite), the special bio-energy that powers demon skills. MAG can be recovered with MAG Drain, which steals MAG from attacked enemies. Make sure to balance weak, MAG-stealing attacks and stronger non-MAG-stealing attacks. Its worth noting that all demons, whether enemies or allies, have unique weaknesses and resistances, so keep your eyes peeled in combat! Attacking an enemys weakness will stun them, restricting their actions and allowing you to inflict critical hits to increase the amount of damage dealt and the amount of MAG drained. You will have a variety of combat abilities and attacks at your disposal, so make sure to develop a solid strategy.Investigation and ExplorationTo find clues and crack the case, you will cross between the Dark Realm and the real world, explore the Capital and seek answers from people and demons on the streets. To level up your detective skills, use demons with Investigation Skills. Abilities like Read Mind, which allows Raidou to hear other peoples thoughts, are key to helping Raidou connect the dots. In some instances, where there are suspicious locations that a human like Raidou cannot go, you can even command your demon to go on a solo investigation to retrieve new information. The demon is in the details! The Art of Confinement and Demon FusionDemons can be recruited by using the art of confinement to catch them during the battle and make them allies. Conversations may occur when the art of confinement is successful. Choose wisely because demons will reward you by restoring your party or improving your stats. The demons you have recruited as allies throughout the investigation can be fused at the Goumaden, a research facility run by a mad scientist by the name of Dr. Victor. Here, you can utilize the forbidden magic of demon fusion to combine your demons and form even more powerful ones!Whats New?Raidou Remastered is the most visually enhanced and immersive version of the fan-favorite mystery RPG. RAIDOU Remastered features a plethora of gameplay and quality-of-life updates to bring the title to the modern era, including an enhanced save game functionality more save slots, autosave and quick save; difficulty settings five difficulty levels to choose from, including the brutally challenging Detective Legend difficulty only selectable on New Game+; and voice settings the option to switch between English and Japanese VO.To learn more, you can watch the Raidou Remastered livestream from earlier today on the Atlus YouTube channel or visit the games official website. • The Bold New Lighting Collection Everyone is Talking About
    www.elledecor.com
Anyone following design reports will tell you, trends in lighting seem to come and go quite quickly these days, especially in an ever-changing landscape and fast paced launch cycles. This notion is certainly antithetical to Jamb founders Will Fisher and Charlotte Freemantle who have been quietly producing bespoke lighting for the worlds top interior designers and decorators from their home and studio in London. Specializing in traditional skills, exceptional craftsmanship and a keen eye to detail, the duo is set to debut the brand new Deco collection, timed with London Design Week, made of five distinctive pieces that do not seem to follow any sort of trends at all.Michael SinclairPictured above, the Hopper Alabaster, a wall sconce in cast brass with alabaster shade.Inspiration in AntiquesDecidedly glamorous in style and a hint majestic, Charlotte recalls, We sought to soften the edges of each piece in a more romantic fashion. This romance has become a melodic line, one that was carried through from their distinctive pink room at the Wow! House at Chelsea Harbour Design Centre this past year and brought forward in developing these new product categories. Seeking new inspirations through old antiques has become part of a well-versed repertoire for Will, having spent his formative years studying antique objects. He notes, We start with finding an original piece and that presents the kernel of an idea that we build upon. When we get obsessed with something, we really get drawn in. A buying trip and a plethora of discoveries inspired the early twentieth century themes of The Bloomsbury Group, the Roaring Twenties, and the world of the Belle poque for which this small collection took flight.Michael SinclairThe Thelma pendant light features a hand stippled brass frame, three horse-bit chains and a skirt available in linen or silk.Materiality in FocusFrom a materials perspective, hand-planished metal, luminescent alabaster and shimmering silk textiles combine to create unexpected pairings and compelling juxtapositions. In some designs, hand carved patterns are cast using a traditional lost wax technique, one of the original forms of casting offering the noblest form of manufacture, as Will describes. The inclusion of decorative fabrics, another hold-over from the Wow! House show is something Charlotte is particularly keen to continue to work with in new ways with regards to product development. She says, Drapery softens and diffuse light in a room and textiles has a similar effect with our collection, it suggests candlelight.Michael SinclairA new floor lamp from the Deco Collection is styled in a contemporary setting with a variety of antique pieces of furniture and objects.Making a StatementWe often hear that lighting is the jewelry of the home, and if thats the case, the Deco collection is suitable for creating a unique and inviting ambiance you will not find anywhere else. The perfect piece of jewelry often completes the look and compliments the ensemble, which this collection does with aplomb. The designers photographed the collection in situ which gives us a better sense of how these objects can fit into any interior environment, from mid-century modern spaces to those of more traditional pedigree, all the while, bucking trends and perhaps, however unintentionally, starting new ones.Michael SinclairThe Hatton Rod embodies the Art Deco aesthetic with its alabaster bowl and brass detailing. It has the added versatility of providing down and uplighting.Available from Jamb, 95-97 Pimlico Road, London and jamb.co.uk.This story originally appeared in the April 2025 issue of Elle Decor.SUBSCRIBE

  • Amber Lewis's Calming Workspace Is As "Anti-Corporate" As It Gets
    www.housebeautiful.com
Amber Lewis admits to not liking corporate offices. But her growing team needed a new home base, so she began looking for one. The internet-favorite designers former digs, a 1,500-square-foot, character-filled space across town in Calabasas, California, was getting too small. If I had to be in a more traditionally corporate setting, it was going to have to have pretty amazing qualities, Lewis says. Having scored a space that gave her free reign on renovations, a wraparound deck, and natural light on three sides, shes now a convert to the office building lifestyle.I wanted to feel like I was working at home.Lewis immediately tore open the ceilings, adding much-needed height while showing off the buildings ductwork, which gives it her signature laid-back energy. A coat of warm white paint (Pueblo by Dunn Edwards) and sheer draperyLewiss go-to for adding depth to a space with limited architecturesoftened the stark walls and square windows. Every door and piece of millwork was painted in Heather, also by Dunn Edwards, to help frame the office zones.Related StoriesShade DeggesLewiss office living room is a casual place to answer emails and meet with clients.Similar to one shed design for a home, the office kitchen is where people tend to gather, something thats quite rare in a corporate setting. Of course, the snack drawers (filled with Chomps sticks) are a big part of the draw, but Lewis strived for a space that looked as good as it performed. There was no kitchen when the team got the space, so Lewis was able to customize every element. Everything was built to be hidden, she says. But durability was the primary focus, especially when you have a revolving door of 50 people coming in and out.Shade DeggesThe sample library has abundant storage forevery textile swatch and tile square.Shade DeggesThe kitchen is where most of thestaff hangs out, just like at home. The countertops and backsplash were sourced fromRoyal Stone, and the flooring is fromExquisite Surfaces.Shade DeggesThe materials library was organized by Jen Robin ofLife in Jeneral.Shade DeggesPinboards adorn most of thewalls in the office, allowing designersto create large-scale mood boards and design presentations. Lewis opted for paneled appliances, marble countertops, and brick paver floors, all tried-and-true elements she uses in many of her design projects. Cabinets painted a shade darker than the walls are easy to touch up when scuffs and scratches happen. The star of the space is the antique island, a piece Lewis had had in her warehouse for years but never found the right home for. Its the perfect butcher block top. If you get it wiped down and you cut on it, its just the sort of thing that will get better with age.The other place Lewis gravitates to, aside from the carefully curated snack drawer, is the conference room. She focused on making it feel cozy and inviting. Plush seating and sprawling valley views create a calming space for team and client meetings. Shade DeggesThe conference room was furnished with soft textures and drapery from Interior Specialties to avoid the intimidating air Lewis feels in overly corporate spaces.Around the corner is the sample library. An important space for any design firm, Lewis situated hers directly across from a wall of ceiling-height windows. Natural light is everything, she says. This ensures her team can see colors and finishes accurately. The walls are outfitted with custom built-in cabinetry, and theres an island so people can spread out and experiment right in the roomno need to carry boxes of samples down the hall to their desks. Clients can also explore the space and get hands-on during the decision making process with the team.Shade DeggesA smaller conference room provides privacy for more intimate meetings.Shade DeggesCustom millwork by Interior Wood Designs ensures the sample library has room to grow and space for designers tospread out andexperiment.Despite her love of sourcing vintage, Lewis tapped the product designer side of her brain to outfit the pit with a slew of wooden desks, designed as part of her collaboration with Four Hands. Secured to the floor, these desks are able to hide every single computer charger and power cord, a non-negotiable for Lewis. In her own office, a large room at the rear of the floor, Lewis focused on comfort. I wanted to feel like I was working at home, she says. A large dining table serves as her desk, while ample seating allows team members to hang out close by. Its double the space I need, she says. But I like that it feels conversational. My door is literally always open. Shade DeggesSheer drapes in Lewiss office soften the windows and diffuse the light. The rugs used throughout the office are from Marc Phillips and Loloi. • iOS 18.4s notification upgrade is easily one of Apples best AI features
    9to5mac.com
Apple Intelligence was first introduced at WWDC nine months ago, and has rolled out progressively over time. Now, one of the last of those initial AI featuresPriority Notificationsis arriving in iOS 18.4, and its easily among Apples best yet.One of iOS 18s last remaining AI features is a winnerThere are a ton of different features that fall under the umbrella of Apple Intelligence. For example, there are AI image creation features, writing tools, camera powers like visual intelligence, Photos app upgrades, Siri changes, and a lot more. Two features Ive personally found most useful are:ChatGPT integration with Siriand AI notification summariesChatGPT makes the recent Siri delays a little easier to swallow, and notification summaries have a big impact on one of the iPhones core features.Even though notification summaries have stirred some controversy, I still believe theyre among the best, most impactful AI features to date.iOS 18.4s new notification feature is just as compellingfor many of the same reasons.Priority Notifications is a new capability coming to your iPhone with iOS 18.4. It does something pretty simple, but powerful. How Priority Notifications work in iOS 18.4Heres how Apple describes Priority Notifications:Apple Intelligence can show you notifications that may be important in a separate section on the Lock Screen, so you can catch up on what you may have missed. You can still swipe up to view all notifications.Essentially, your iPhone uses on-device processing to analyze how important each notification appears to be.If a notification seems important, its surfaced more prominently on your Lock Screen in a new Priority Notifications section. All your other notifications? Theyre still present, but underneath the ones that AI deems important.By visiting Settings Notifications Prioritize Notifications, you can choose whether this feature is turned on or not. But you can also manually disable it for certain apps. This manual option is a nice touch, since it means you dont have to rely entirely on Apple Intelligence to determine whats important to you. You can make that choice for yourself. Many of us get far too many notifications, but dont want to deal with the hassle of disabling them for certain apps. Or in some cases, we want certain notifications from apps, but only the important ones. Now in iOS 18.4, Apple Intelligence can help ensure you wont miss out on what matters most. Are you interested in using Priority Notifications in iOS 18.4? From there, we move over to a new all-time low on M3 iPad Air configurations with prices kicking off at $549 and the first post-launch deal on ESRs latest Geo iPad Pencil with Find My it is now over $100 under the price of Apple Pencil Pro alongside a launch deal on Journeys all-new steel Apple Find My water bottle with wireless charging and a built-in MagSafe stand. All of that and more awaits below in todays 9to5Toys Lunch Break.ScreenshotApples most affordable 16GB M4 Mac mini just dropped back to the $499 Amazon all-time low ($100 off)It came and went quite quickly over this past weekend, but Amazon has now brought back its all-time low pricing on thebase model M4 Mac mini at$499 shipped. Now joining the all-time low pricing on the upgradedM4 Pro Mac mini at$200 offthe list price, Amazon is now once again offering a straight up $100 price drop on the base M4 model to a mark return of the lowest price we have tracked there. We have seen this model with 16GB of RAM and the 256GB internal SSD down at $529 a number of times now, but a straight up $100 price drop has been much harder to come by since its official release last fall. We are, in fact, seeing $100 drops on all three of the stock M4 mini configurations at the moment, right up to the 24GB/512GB setup, alongside the aforementioned M4 Pro model with 24GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Pricing breaks down as follows:M4 Mac mini 16GB/256GB$499(Reg. $599)M4 Mac mini 16GB/512GB$699(Reg. $799)M4 Mac mini 24GB/512GB$899(Reg. $999)M4 Pro Mac mini 24GB/512GB$1,199(Reg. $1,399)I am seriously considering the M4 Pro mini at this point, and especially with a $200 discount, but as we have discussed previously, the real selling point of the lineup for many is the ultra-affordable price tag (as far as current Apple standard go anyway) on the base models. Most folks can probably make do just fine with the M4 chip and at $499, we are talking about the most affordable point of entry into the current-generation Mac lineup here. After Apple doubled down on its base model RAM game from the underwhelming 8GB up to 16GB last fall, these entry-level configurations have become even more enticing and you can now land one back down at the Amazon all-time low as part of the retailers ongoingBig Spring Sale.Just be sure to scope out theSatechi M4 Mac mini Stand & Hub with SSD Enclosureto take the experience up a notch or four. Now even lower: Apples 24GB M4 Pro Mac mini just dropped again to new all-time low at $200 offWhile we are still tracking all-time low prices on the most affordable new M3 iPad 11-inch models, Amazon is now offering a new all-time low on thebase model 13-inch starting from$738.08 shipped. Regularly $799, this is the best straight up cash deal we have tracked on the most affordable 13-inch variant since release. While todays deal is only available on the128GB Gray model, you will still find the $50 price drops live at Amazon across the entire lineup every configuration of the new M3 iPad is still sitting at Amazon all-time lows right now, and that includes the Wi-Fi + Cell variants. We will keep an eye out for other colors dipping down as well.As we featured previously, there are still some serious chances to save a whole lot more right now, but you will need to have a previous-generation iPad to flip for the new M3 model that debuted last month. You canscore one at up to$650 offwith an M2 iPad Air trade-in and all of the details you need on thatawait right here. That said, those without gear to flip towards to the new M3 can browse through the deal pricing across the lineup down below:Apple iPad Air M3 11-inch11-inch M3 iPad Air 128GB from$549(Reg. $599)11-inch M3 iPad Air 256GB from$649(Reg. $699)11-inch M3 iPad Air 512GB from$849(Reg. $899)11-inch M3 iPad Air 1TB from$1,049(Reg. $1,099)Apple iPad Air M3 13-inch13-inch M3 iPad Air 128GB from$738(Reg. $799)13-inch M3 iPad Air 256GB from$849(Reg. $899)13-inch M3 iPad Air 512GB from$1,049(Reg. $1,099)13-inch M3 iPad Air 1TB from$1,229(Reg. $1,299)Head over toour launch coverageof the new M3 iPad Air for more details on it and thenew Magic Keyboard. As part of thenow live Big Spring Sale, one of the official ESR storefronts on Amazon is now offering the first post-launch deal on its relatively newGeo iPad Pencilwith built-in Apple Find My. Regularly $30, you can now score thewhite model down at$25.49 with free shippingfor Prime members or in orders over $35. This is a straight up 15% price drop and the lowest we have tracked in months since the early launch offer. The ESR Geo Digital Pencil, as it is officially known, is essentially a much more affordable Apple Pencil alternative. And, unlike most of the more affordable alternatives out there, it sports an official Apple Find My module on the inside, much like the regularly $129 Apple Pencil Pro that was revealed last May Apple Pencil Pro is currently on sale for$99as part of the Amazon Big Spring Sale. While its clearly not as high-end a solution, at over $100 off the MSRP of an Apple Pencil Pro, it might be a worth while consideration for some, especially with the newfound Find My integration. There are some trade-offs, like wireless charging, but again, its dramatically less pricey too.As for the actual digital writing and doodling experience, ESR says it offers a smooth writing experience with a built-in sensor that allows you to adjust the thickness of your lines by tilting the nib for realistic shading, detailed drawings, and writing just like on paper. It supports USB-C charging full charged in 30 minutes, and will magnetically attach to iPads that support such a feature. And it, of course, also features onboard Find My that works very much like any other third-party integration Find My function allows you to locate your iPad Pencil anytime and anywhere, whether youve misplaced it while out or at home.Journey debuts new steel Apple Find My water bottle with wireless charging, built-in MagSafe stand, and a 15% launch dealApples most affordable 24GB 16-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro just fell back to the Black Friday all-time low at $300 offAll of the best Amazon Big Spring Sale deals: Apple, Samsung, Google, EVs, apparel, and moreTodays accessories and charging deals:Apples latest AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation drop back to Amazon 2025 low at $149 today, base set at $100AirPods Pro 2 back to one of the best prices this year at $170, AirPods 4 just returned to $100 Amazon low (Reg. up to $249)Eves HomeKit Secure Video smart home cam hits one of its best prices at $115 (Nearly 25% off)As part of the now live Big Spring Sale, and the ongoing Eve smart home sale, we are touching down today to highlight a notable deal on one of our favorite HomeKit smart home cameras the Eve Cam. Regularly $150, and rarely on sale outside of holiday events, you can now score it at one of the best prices we have ever tracked with Amazons listing now sitting down at $114.95 shipped, or nearly 25% off. While the Eve Cam isnt the newest HomeKit camera on the market, or the most affordable, after our follow up review at around this time last year over at 9to5Mac, we can confidently say it remains one of our favorites:Last week, I looked at the state of HomeKit Secure Video. While I agree that it will take a lot of work to meet users needs in 2024, I also agree that its still the best way for privacy-focused people to use smart home cameras. The Eve Cam is one of the best cameras on the market for HomeKit Secure video. The Eve Cam, which is now undercutting last years Black Friday price, delivers HomeKit Secure Video support we said Eve is a vendor as close to Apple releasing first-party HomeKit products as will come.It delivers the obligatory 1080p fees to your smart devices from its sleek black frame alongside the suite of notifications and motion alerts one would expect from a camera in this now discounted price range it is capable of distinguishing between people and pets as well.Be sure to dive into the wider Eve Big Spring smart home sale where youll find the brands plugs, outlets, switches, and more starting from $30 right now.The new iPad (A16) is now out in the wild (and is now marked down at Amazon) alongside the upgraded M3 iPad Air (still seeing its first cash deals right here), but Amazon also just brought back the $100 price drops on Apples latest, greatest, and miniest iPad. As the BBC reports, at least six of the passengers are feared dead, with nine injured and 29 rescued.According to a Russian official in the area, at least five Russians were killed, two of whom were children. Two municipal officials told the Associated Press that six people had died. The submersible was reportedly organized by underwater tourism company Sindbad Submarines, which has been operating in the area for years. Its vessels can dive to maximum depths of around 82 feet, allowing tourists to "experience the beauty of the Red Seas underwater world without getting wet," per the company's website, which appears to be down following the tragedy. To put that number into perspective, that's orders of magnitude shallower than the approximately 12,500 feet at which the domed OceanGate submersible implodedin 2023.Plenty of questions remain, and an immediate cause for the disaster has yet to be identified. It's nonetheless a terrifying incident, highlighting the dangers of embarking on these kinds of trips and, possibly, lax safety measures that could've prevented it.Sinking ShipsThere have been similar incidents in recent months. In November, 44 people on board a tourist yacht sank near a different Egyptian resort called Marsa Allam. Eleven people were presumed dead, per the BBC.And last month, a different tourist diving boat capsized in rough weather near Hurghada with six people on board. The latest disaster, which happened during light winds and calm waters, has raised concerns over safety standards in Egypt regarding seafaring vessels. The country is facing a "crisis on at the moment, in terms of safety on some of these tourist vessels," Southampton University oceanographer Simon Boxall told the BBC.More on submersibles: The Doomed Subs Final Messages Before Imploding Are Pretty GrimShare This Article

  • Sam Altman Whines That When You Become a Billionaire, "Everyone Hates You For Everything"
    futurism.com
Sam Altman the Stanford University dropout turned VC-backed tech billionaire just can't catch a break.Though the 39-year-old startup tycoon has multi-million dollar mansions in Hawaii, San Francisco, and Napa, the personal favor of president Donald Trump, and enough luxury cars to make an NBA player blush, he still comes short on the one thing money can't buy: respect. After announcing a ChatGPT update that substantially upgrades the service's image-generating capabilities, Altman posted a semi-ironic status reflecting on the last ten years of his career. When you're Sam Altman, he claimed, "everyone hates you for everything," despite "grinding for a decade trying to help make superintelligence to cure cancer or whatever."It's a tough life for a guy worth about $1.2 billion, enough to give about 417,000 low-income kids healthcare for a year, or cover the rent for nearly 125,000 public housing units. To make matters worse, fanboys are using his AI to sloppify his face into Studio Ghibli-style memes probably ChatGPT's most useful feature so far. When you're Altman, he whines, you "wake up one day to hundreds of messages: 'look i made you into a twink Ghibli style haha [sic].'" Rough break, man. It's not the first time the tech titan has blown off steam on social media. During a public spat with Elon Musk earlier this year, the ChatGPT CEO faced an onslaught of harassment from the world's richest man."Just one more mean tweet and then maybe you'll love yourself," Altman quipped at the time. He later got a little more personal, pining that "probably [Musk's] whole life is from a position of insecurity... I don't think he's a happy person."Dueling egos notwithstanding, there's a certainly a glimmer of irony there. Whether it's enough to offset that gnawing feeling of dread the tycoon feels every day is another story.Broadly speaking, the immense influence of powerful billionaires like Altman is a symptom of growing wealth inequality in the US. But when it comes to tech billionaires, it's evidently not enough to hoard money and influence like a feudal lord they want to be worshipped, too.As tech critic Stephen Moore puts it: "instead of disappearing to enjoy a quiet life sleeping on a mattress of $100 bills, they continue to force themselves into the limelight, desperate to keep themselves relevant, desperate to feel worshipped by the bootlickers... why can't they just make their money and f*ck off?"More on Sam Altman: Sam Altman Says OpenAI Has Run Out of GPUsShare This Article

  • Hackers Repurpose RansomHub's EDRKillShifter in Medusa, BianLian, and Play Attacks
    thehackernews.com
Mar 27, 2025Ravie LakshmananEndpoint Security / RansomwareA new analysis has uncovered connections between affiliates of RansomHub and other ransomware groups like Medusa, BianLian, and Play. The connection stems from the use of a custom tool that's designed to disable endpoint detection and response (EDR) software on compromised hosts, according to ESET. The EDR killing tool, dubbed EDRKillShifter, was first documented as used by RansomHub actors in August 2024.EDRKillShifter accomplishes its goals by means of a known tactic called Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) that involves using a legitimate but vulnerable driver to terminate security solutions protecting the endpoints. The idea with using such tools is to ensure the smooth execution of the ransomware encryptor without it being flagged by security solutions."During an intrusion, the goal of the affiliate is to obtain admin or domain admin privileges," ESET researchers Jakub Souek and Jan Holman said in a report shared with The Hacker News."Ransomware operators tend not to do major updates of their encryptors too often due to the risk of introducing a flaw that could cause issues, ultimately damaging their reputation. As a result, security vendors detect the encryptors quite well, which the affiliates react to by using EDR killers to 'get rid of' the security solution just before executing the encryptor."What's notable here is that a bespoke tool developed by the operators of RansomHub and offered to its affiliates something of a rare phenomenon in itself is being used in other ransomware attacks associated with Medusa, BianLian, and Play. This aspect assumes special significance in light of the fact that both Play and BianLian operate under the closed RaaS model, wherein the operators are not actively looking to hire new affiliates and their partnerships are based on long-term mutual trust."Trusted members of Play and BianLian are collaborating with rivals, even newly emerged ones like RansomHub, and then repurposing the tooling they receive from those rivals in their own attacks," ESET theorized. "This is especially interesting, since such closed gangs typically employ a rather consistent set of core tools during their intrusions."It's being suspected that all these ransomware attacks have been carried out by the same threat actor, dubbed QuadSwitcher, who is likely related to Play the closest owing to similarities in tradecraft typically associated with Play intrusions.EDRKillShifter has also been observed being used by another individual ransomware affiliate known as CosmicBeetle as part of three different RansomHub and fake LockBit attacks. The development comes amid a surge in ransomware attacks using BYOVD techniques to deploy EDR killers on compromised systems. Last year, the ransomware gang known as Embargo was discovered using a program called MS4Killer to neutralize security software. As recently as this month, the Medusa ransomware crew has been linked to a custom malicious driver codenamed ABYSSWORKER."Threat actors need admin privileges to deploy an EDR killer, so ideally, their presence should be detected and mitigated before they reach that point," ESET said."Users, especially in corporate environments, should ensure that the detection of potentially unsafe applications is enabled. This can prevent the installation of vulnerable drivers."Found this article interesting? Follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn to read more exclusive content we post.SHARE
