How Crypto Legislation Could Hand Big Tech the Keys to Banking
On Wednesday, a stablecoin bill called the STABLE Act advanced through the House Financial Services Committee, increasing the likelihood that Congress will pass a law this year cementing stablecoins' as a global financial tool. Proponents argue that stablecoins help the U.S. preserve the global centrality of the dollar, while allowing people worldwide to transact more freely, cheaply and securely. But while stablecoin legislation has received bipartisan support, it has also faced targeted pushback, particularly from Democrats concerned about systemic risks and conflict of interestespecially since the Trump familys crypto company announced the creation of its own stablecoin. Critics also warn of another potentially significant side effect: that such legislation could open the door for Big Tech players like Meta, X, and Amazon to create their own privatized forms of money, further consolidating corporate power. This is being framed as a crypto bill, and in some ways it is. But it has not reached most peoples radar that its biggest beneficiary is likely to be large tech platforms, says Hilary Allen, a professor at American University Washington College of Law and a vocal crypto skeptic in D.C.Read More: What are Stablecoins? Both the House and Senate have passed stablecoin billsthe STABLE and GENIUS Acts, respectivelyout of committee. The bills lay out guidelines for how stablecoins will be regulated, and the amount and types of reserves stablecoin issuers must have on hand. The House and Senate will now have the opportunity to reconcile the two bills in the hopes of getting a unified bill onto President Trumps desk by the summer. Several banks, including Bank of America, have expressed interest in launching their own stablecoin, should a law pass. But under the current language of the two bills, non-financial companies would also be able to create their own stablecoins via subsidiaries. While previously proposed stablecoin bills prohibited non-banking companies from doing so, neither the STABLE nor the GENIUS Act contain such a provision. In fact, the STABLE Act says that any nonbank can issue a stablecoin as long as they acquire approval from a federal regulator. Allen says that this would open the door for Big Tech moguls like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg to create their own stablecoins. Both have long been interested in the payments sectorMusks X has acquired money transmitter licenses in many states, while Facebook tried to launch its own cryptocurrency, Libra, in 2019 before facing stiff criticism and regulatory scrutiny. These big tech platforms have been very interested in doing payments because they're in the data collection and monetization businessand payments data is particularly valuable because it shows what youre actually buying, Allen says. The more people's transactions migrate onto these big tech platforms, that will really beef up what are already incredibly systemically important actors in our society, and put them at the center of our financial system.Allen lays out a hypothetical scenario in which Amazon issues stablecoins. They could then conceivably scale its usage among Amazon employees and users, Whole Foods shoppers, and Washington Post subscribers, to the point that many people start relying on stablecoins as opposed to bank accounts. Thats really bad news, because banks take the money deposited with them and loan them out into the economy, while stablecoin reserves just sit there, Allen says. So money that had been used productively in our economy is now just sitting with Amazon.Stephen Lynch, a Massachusetts Democrat, made a similar point at the STABLE bills markup on Wednesday, warning his colleagues that stablecoins would compete with bank deposits and undermine the ability of banks to make loans to consumers and main street businesses. In October 2023, Rohit Chopra, director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under President Biden, warned that if Big Tech firms assumed control of banking operations, they would have a strong incentive to surveil all aspects of a consumers transactions. He added that they could also develop personalized pricing algorithms.Arthur Wilmarth, a professor emeritus at George Washington University Law School, tells TIME that people paying for goods with stablecoins would lack fraud protection. He also points to China as a cautionary tale, where Tencent and Alibaba became dominant payments players and gained undue influence over regulatorswhich then led Beijing to tighten its grip and gain sway over those businesses decisionmaking. At the markup on Wednesday, Rep. Maxine Waters pushed for an amendment that would maintain the separation of commerce and banking, claiming that the bill as written could enable Elon Musk, Walmart, and others to create their own currencies. Wisconsin Republican Bryan Steil, a co-writer of the bill, responded that the amendment would lead to a stifling of innovation. Co-writer French Hill, a Republican from Arkansas and the House Financial Services Committee Chair, said that he hoped Congress could work out a thoughtful solution to Waters concerns while considering a larger crypto market structure bill. The amendment was then rejected. I view this stablecoin legislation as presenting a very dangerous opening for big tech to get into banking in a big way, Wilmarth says. Once that happens, I think it will be almost impossible to ever close the door again.

Amazon can now shop other websites on your behalf
In a nutshell: Amazon already offers hundreds of millions of items to choose from yet even still, the e-commerce giant doesn't have everything. In the rare instance Amazon doesn't have what you're looking for, the company's latest feature might be able to help. Buy for Me, available to select US customers in the Amazon Shopping app on Android and iOS devices, leverages agentic AI to make purchases on users' behalf. When searching for a branded product in the Amazon app, shoppers will be shown relevant results from Amazon and third-party sellers and when applicable, results from stores not currently on Amazon.Clicking a product labeled Buy for Me takes shoppers to a product page similar to others in the Amazon app, complete with relevant information. Should the shopper want to move forward with the purchase, clicking the Buy for Me button will request Amazon to make the purchase from the brand's website on their behalf. Customers can complete the transaction on a checkout page similar to what they normally experience in the Amazon app without having to jump through hoops on a third-party page.Once complete, the customer will receive confirmation from the store via email and have access to tracking information in the Amazon app. Deliveries, returns, and customer service are managed by the brand store, not Amazon directly.Amazon said it does not have access to a users' previous / separate orders from a Buy for Me store. The feature is free to use from Prime and non-Prime members alike. Notably, you'll be unable to use a brand promo code during checkout. If you have a coupon that affords a significant discount, it might be best to purchase directly from the brand site. The new feature runs on Bedrock, and is supported by Amazon Nova and Anthropic's Claude models. It is being tested with a limited number of customers, stores, and products. The e-commerce giant expects to expand the feature to more users and retailers should everything go according to plan. // Related StoriesImage credit: Marques Thomas

2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV LT review: This is one long pickup truck
6 meters long 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV LT review: This is one long pickup truck Has the moment passed for massive electric trucks with massive range? Jonathan M. Gitlin Apr 4, 2025 11:55 am | 20 Does this shape shout FUTURETRUCK at you? It does for me. Credit: Jonathan Gitlin Does this shape shout FUTURETRUCK at you? It does for me. Credit: Jonathan Gitlin Story textSizeSmallStandardLargeWidth *StandardWideLinksStandardOrange* Subscribers only Learn moreWill this Chevrolet Silverado EV be the biggest electric vehicle we test this year? Almost certainly. Fractionally narrower and less tall than a Hummer EV pickup at more than 18 feet (just under 6 m) long and with a curb weight of 8,532 lbs (3,870 kg), the Silverado EV is what happens when Chevy's electric vehicle engineers get tasked with making their rivals over at Ford feel like they didn't try hard enough with the electric F-150.Now that production has been ongoing for a while, Chevy is filling out the lower trim levels. For commercial customers, there's a Work Truck, but for normies, the entry point is now the LT trim, at a tax credit-friendlyif still wallet-munching$75,195 (for as long as the tax credit still lastsand until the effect of pointless and damaging trade tariffs make themselves known, of course). The 645 hp (481 kW), 756 lb-ft (1,037 Nm) Silverado EV LT comes with the smaller of the two battery packs offered to non-commercial customers. That adjective is doing a lot of work there; a useable 170 kWh is indeed smaller than the 200 kWh you can find in the more expensive RST Max Range, but it's also more than double the capacity of something like a Hyundai Ioniq 5. The range estimate is a commensurate 408 miles (657 km), or "just" 390 miles (628 km) if, as in our test pickup, the premium package has been fitted. At 233 inches (5.9 m), this is a very long vehicle. Credit: Jonathan Gitlin The huge battery is there in large part because the Silverado EV LT is rated at a 12,500-lb (5,700 kg) tow rating. An EV's range at highway speed is partly a function of how much drag it creates, and hooking an irregular-shaped trailer to the back of an already aerodynamically compromised pickup truck shape will provide a vivid demonstration of that fact. Since a trailer's mass also factors into things, the exact range hit will differ with each case (and the weather) in practice.I'll have to leave that to the specialty truck reviewers, though. With no trailer here and nothing needing towing, the hardest workout our tester Silverado EV LT got was a trip to Costco, where the frunk proved a little too small for my needs and the bed too inaccessible with its tonneau cover in place, although that perhaps would have been an opportunity to play with the "multiflex midgate." You may remember this feature from the brand's old Avalanche pickup (or maybe even the Skoda Felicia Fun), which lets you fold down the rear seats to open a passthrough to the truck's bed. Instead, everything went in the back of the very capacious crew cab.Passengers praised the back-seat experience, and it's obvious that the layout was designed around being able to comfortably fit four large humans and a bunch of their stuff. There are useful cubbies all over the place, as well as cupholders and USB-C ports. But as someone on the shorter side of things, I found the right side of the 17.7-inch infotainment system a stretch, and the driver's seat could do with another inch or so of height adjustment to provide a little more of a view over the hood. The Silverado's frunk is easily openable with the remote fob. Jonathan Gitlin The Silverado's frunk is easily openable with the remote fob. Jonathan Gitlin The frunk has a volume of 10.7 cubic feet (303 L). Jonathan Gitlin The frunk has a volume of 10.7 cubic feet (303 L). Jonathan Gitlin With the cover on, there's a cargo volume of 57.7 cubic feet (1,634 L), but small loads will need to be secured if you don't want them tumbling around back there. Jonathan Gitlin With the cover on, there's a cargo volume of 57.7 cubic feet (1,634 L), but small loads will need to be secured if you don't want them tumbling around back there. Jonathan Gitlin It turns out I didn't take a single good image of the interior, and Chevy doesn't have any either, so this is from the car configurator. Chevrolet 44.3 inches (1,126 mm) of rear leg room is more than ample. Jonathan Gitlin Note the gaze-tracking driver monitoring system on top of the steering column. Jonathan Gitlin No CarPlay or Android Auto here. Jonathan Gitlin Not really optimized for city life. Jonathan Gitlin Big wheels, low-profile tires. The range loss for our test Silverado is mostly down to the set of 22-inch wheels that replace the standard 18-inch items. The wheels are shod with tires that have about the same amount of sidewall as those on the electric Mini crossover that followed it in our test rotation, and the result is a firm ride that was rough over winter potholes and damaged roads. Highway expansion gaps are felt as a bit of a bounce, but otherwise, the ride feels a little floaty when cruising. You'll want the premium pack and bigger wheels if you also want the Super Cruise hands-free assist. At lower speeds, I found the Silverado EV a little more cumbersome. As noted, it's a very long vehicle, and you need the more expensive RST version if you want rear-wheel steering, which turns the opposite direction to the front wheels at low speeds, in effect shrinking the 145.7-inch (3,700 mm) wheelbase. You would be much happier driving one of these straight into a garage rather than backing it into a parking space.Having a garage isn't a must, but in my opinion, being able to charge at home (or reliably at work) still remains a precondition for buying a plug-in vehicle. 120 V (level 1) AC charging might work for routine overnight top-ups if your daily driving is 40 miles or less, but it may take more than a day to completely restore a totally empty pack. Did this truck miss its moment in time? Credit: Jonathan Gitlin Level 2 AC charging should take 810 hours for a full charge (Chevy says 10 miles (16 km) in 10 minutes). Although the powertrain operates at 400 V, the pack can rejigger itself at suitable DC fast chargers to accept an 800 V charge at up to 300 kW. Expect a 1080 percent charge to take around 45 minutes; during my week testing the Silverado EV, I only ran the battery down to around 50 percent, so I wouldn't have seen optimal rates had I plugged it in. With climate change now causing wide temperature swings in early March, I can report that I averaged 1.7 miles/kWh (36.6 kWh/100 km) in cold weather, but once things got mild, that jumped to 2.2 miles/kWh (28.2 kWh/100 km).Was Chevrolet misguided in making the Silverado EV? It certainly made more sense when EV optimism was peaking and the marketing departments in Detroit thought that pickup buyers would be easy conquests for a brave new future powered by electrons. That turned out to be the opposite of true, at least for the time being. But the automaker has a decent selection of EVs in other shapes, sizes, and price points, and an advantage to its common battery platform should be a degree of flexibility in which cars it decides to put them in.Jonathan M. We asked BI's newsroom who is spending ahead of tariffs — and who is holding off
How is BI's newsroom thinking about their spending ahead of Trump's tariffs? Our reporters and editors weighed in. Daniel Goodman 2025-04-04T16:26:59Z SaveSaved Read in app This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now.Have an account? Trump's latest round of tariffs is expected to lead to increased consumer prices across a variety of goods. We asked reporters and editors across BI's newsroom to weigh in on how they're thinking about their spending right now. Some purchased items they think are likely to face price hikes. Others are holding off and avoiding the urge to use tariffs as an excuse to buy a non-essential item.Let's get this out of the way from the jump it's always best to avoid panic-buying and be strategic when making purchases. But to get a sense of how people are weighing their spending right now, we asked reporters and editors across BI's newsroom to tell us what they're choosing to spend on right now or why they're holding off ahead of Donald Trump's latest round of tariffs. For some, potential price hikes on consumer electronics out of China were the tipping point to pull the trigger on a gadget. Others purchased some extra daily consumables or said they were considering a similar move. And some said their spending habits remain unchanged.Let's dive in:Chief correspondent Peter Kafka: On Thursday, instead of checking out my 401(k), I bought a new MacBook Air from Apple, on their website. I have an Apple Card, so I was able to finance it at 0% APR.It's possible Tim Cook will figure out how to get Donald Trump to exempt Apple from tariffs like he did the first time around. Maybe he won't. But either way my kid will need a new computer in the next few months, so I figured I should get one now.I don't know when I'll look at my 401(k), though.Editor Conz Preti: My husband and I are also stocking up on shelf-stable foods. With three kids who rip through food every week, we are keeping our pantry stocked with pasta, canned food, and baking supplies. For veggies, we are planting as much as we can (tomatoes, kale, lettuce, cucumber, peas, carrots) in our garden to offset some costs of things we can't grow, like berries and bananas that our kids love.Trending reporter Ana Altchek: I will be taking a wait-and-see approach. I don't think it's possible to fully predict the market and prepare for possible price hikes who knows how individual companies will be impacted and how they'll choose to respond? I definitely don't want to overspend in preparation for something that may or may not happen. Plus, I'd rather pay a little extra for some items I know I need in six months than overspend right now on items I may need.Real estate reporter Alcynna Lloyd: I wear hair extensions and ordered some in case tariffs drive up prices or items stop shipping as they did during COVID-19. The wig and extension industry relies heavily on suppliers from China and other Asia-based countries, and during the pandemic, it was a nightmare to get products.Editor Steven Tweedie: I'm ordering larger bags of cat food than I normally would since I know I'll go through it all, and it'll keep. Otherwise, I'm doing my best to resist using this as an excuse to spend on something I don't actually need, like a new Nvidia Graphics card for my PC even though I'm guessing I'll end up spending more a year or two from now when I finally do upgrade.Senior retail reporter Alex Bitter: I bought a new trench-digging shovel (made in China) on Thursday and will probably pick up another this weekend. I use them for metal detecting and want a spare or two in case one breaks. In general, though, I'm not stocking up on much. These tariffs cover so many products that it seems like avoiding them entirely will be impossible, especially in the long run.Editor Andy Kiersz: I bought a new gaming laptop in December. I'd been considering upgrading at some point but had originally planned to do so later in 2025. The election and subsequent threat of tariffs spurred the move. I'm actually now somewhat regretting not also replacing my still-functional but definitely showing-its-age iPhone 11.Senior correspondent Katie Notopoulos: On Tuesday evening, I did a last-minute shop for things I thought would be most obviously sensitive to the tariffs cheap fast-fashion clothing made overseas. I hit up the H&M near the BI office for three polyester shirts and a pack of socks. I placed the Old Navy order that I've had in my cart for two weeks for kids' swimsuits and summer clothes. Finally, in a last moment of panic and extreme dopamine low, I went onto Temu and ordered a few cheap toys for a kid's upcoming birthday. On Wednesday, talking with coworkers about how they had bought new laptops and TVs, a flash of Bad Ideas went through my mind. Did I need a new phone? (No, my iPhone 14 is working just fine.) Computer? (No, mine is working fine.) Surely, electronics will go up in price perhaps now is the time to get a new Kindle? (No. Stop!)Editor Brad Davis: I'm not buying anything special and I won't! Will my stubbornness come back to bite me, like when I refused to stock up on masks in March 2020? (I really wished I had bought those masks by April of that year.)Editor Ashley Rodriguez: I'm thinking about stocking up on diapers and wipes. My Costco stashes on both are running low. It's a tough decision because my 7-month-old has been growing so quickly that I worry she'll outgrow the diapers before I have a chance to use them all.Reporter Alice Tecotzky: As a devoted baker, I bought an extra bottle of vanilla Thursday despite still having some left in my pantry. Much of our vanilla comes from Madagascar, which was hit with a 47% tariff, and I anticipate the already pricey product will only get more expensive (and derail my long-awaited summer baking plans).Other than that, I'm not stockpiling too much, both because the economic future seems impossible to predict and because I don't have space in my small Brooklyn apartment.Editor Monica Melton: When my 2020 HP laptop gave up the ghost in February, I promptly handed it over to an e-waste recycling program. Since then, I've been borrowing my husband's MacBook Pro, telling myself I'd do research on the specs and best deal for my next personal computer. While this has taken me months to get around to, given how tariffs will impact the price of consumer electronics, I feel a renewed urgency to get that laptop this weekend.I'll likely choose a refurbished MacBook, which I reckon would hold up better than another HP. The resale market for electronics is looking a lot more appealing these days!Senior correspondent Emily Stewart: I am not buying anything. Not because I'm not worried about tariffs! But honestly, I do not need anything right now, and I'm trying to fight my consumerist, "What should I buy about this?" tendencies. Obviously, price increases are bad. But I don't think it's bad to take a beat and think about whether I actually need to be drowning in even more stuff, especially as I stare at the robot vacuum I panic-bought during the pandemic that I have used a handful of times and is now broken.Editor Paige DiFiore: Earlier this week, we replaced our dying air fryer it might've lasted us a few more months but we'd rather buy a new one now before prices could go up.Now, I'm stocking up on household essentials that won't expire, like toilet paper, dishwasher pods, and laundry detergent at BJ's. My fianc and are I big coffee drinkers, so we just ordered some bags of espresso from our favorite Italian brand but we can't buy too much because its shelf life is only a few months. I'm very concerned about how expensive coffee could get since it's not something the US produces on a large scale. We're getting married this year, so I'm relieved most of my guests purchased bridal shower gifts before the tariffs were announced. I'd feel bad if items on the list, like small appliances, cost even more than they already do.Editor Leena Rao: On Wednesday afternoon, shortly after the tariffs were announced, my husband went to the Apple Store and bought a new iPhone 16 Pro and a MacBook Pro. These weren't time-sensitive purchases, but given the potential rise in costs of hardware, we wanted to preempt any price increases. We are in the process of leasing a new car (a Volvo) and have one on order that's supposed to arrive in the next two weeks. I don't believe the model of our car is made in the United States. I'm hopeful we won't incur any additional costs for our monthly lease price, but we won't find out until the car arrives and we officially sign the paperwork for the lease.Editor Debbie Strong: I replaced my dishwasher last week and splurged on a slightly fancier model. The motor had broken on our old one, so this was less of a "tariff panic" purchase and more of an "I refuse to hand-wash another dish" emergency buy. Still, I'm relieved at the timing, as dishwashers have been repeatedly flagged as an item about to get way more expensive. I don't have any other plans to stock up on goods, mainly because I don't have the headspace for it right now. We'll see if that changes next time I'm at the grocery store.Recommended video

Ubisoft censors Far Cry 4 nudity 10 years after the game came out
Probably not approved by Pagan Min (Ubisoft)Ubisoft has quietly rolled out a bizarre update to the PC version of Far Cry 4, which appears to have covered up some of the characters.Censorship in video games has always been a thorny issue, especially as the dominance of the US market means extreme gore is usually always okay and yet the slightest hint of sex or nudity is discouraged.A particularly strange case has now cropped up with a 10 year old game; the PC version of Far Cry 4, which was originally released in 2014, received an update on April 3, 2025 that appears to have censored certain characters with no explanation as to why.Ubisoft hasnt released any patch notes to acknowledge the changes but the sizeable update has been recorded on SteamDB. While its unclear what exactly has been altered, players have started reporting some of the changes on Reddit. As posted in the Far Cry thread, a previously topless woman at the Shanath Arena is now wearing a bra following the update. A Reddit user has also claimed protagonist Ajay is no longer naked during the Shanath Arena mission and now wears a loincloth, posting a screenshot as proof.More TrendingThe sequence with Ajay, where a mans genitals are briefly exposed is highlighted in Far Cry 4s ESRB rating, so its unclear why it has been changed nearly 11 years later, and only on PC. Weve reached out to Ubisoft for comment. While any belated censorship is odd, it feels particularly strange in the case of Far Cry 4. The games predecessor, Far Cry 3, features an actual sex scene between protagonist Jason and Rakyat tribal leader Citra, where her bare breasts are covered in blood, and yet that hasnt been changed. The last instalment in the series was 2021s Far Cry 6, and Ubisoft has yet to officially announce a follow-up. Two separate Far Cry games were believed to be in the works at one point, between a mainline sequel (presumably Far Cry 7) and a multiplayer spin-off, but the latter was reportedly cancelled this year.As announced last month, the Far Cry franchise is now part of a separate subsidiary co-owned by Ubisoft and Tencent. This same company also houses Ubisofts other big franchises, such as Assassins Creed and Tom Clancys Rainbow Six. Nia DaCosta Looks at The Marvels as a Learning Experience
By Germain Lussier Published April 4, 2025 | Comments (0) | Nia DaCosta directing Iman Vellani on the set of The Marvels. Image: Marvel Looking back at The Marvels, very few things went right. Production was difficult, the movie was a financial disappointment, and many fans found the story lacking, too. It was a bummer considering what was being attempted: a sequel to one of Marvels biggest surprise hits, Captain Marvel, as well as its most ambitious attempt to date of tying the Disney+ streaming shows into the Cinematic Universe, by weaving in Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau. And, in the end, lots of people laid the blame on director Nia DaCosta. She was an easy target. A young, Black, female filmmaker given the reins to such big, complicated project. Of course, this was all largely unwarranted and borderline offensive because DaCosta was only a small part of a big, corporate machine she had little control over. Looking back on the experience, though, she now has a very healthy point of view on it. Speaking at the Storyhouse screenwriting festival in Dublin, reported on by Deadline, DaCosta explained that the Marvel way of making movies was just a lot. They had a date, and they were prepping certain things, and you just have to lean into the process hardcore, she said at the event. The way they make those films is very different to the way, ideally, I would make a film, so you just have to lean into the process and hope for the best. The best didnt happen this time but you kind of have to trust in the machine. DaCosta even admits that, at a certain point, she was well aware of what was coming and just had to embrace it. It was interesting because there was a certain point when I was like, Ok, this isnt going to be the movie that I pitched or even the first version of the movie that I shot so I realized that this is now an experience and its learning curve and it really makes you stronger as a filmmaker in terms of your ability to navigate, she said. We get the sense that, if you were one of DaCostas good friends and spoke with her in private, her feelings on the situation would probably be much less diplomatic. And rightfully so. She got thrown under the bus big time. But we love how she has seemingly risen above it, put it behind her, and now considers it a valuable learning experience on her Hollywood journey. One that will next take her to the zombie-infested coasts of the United Kingdom as she helms 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, out in January 2026. Want more io9 news? Senvag Park, located in the old town of Panevys, Lithuania, underwent a major renovation in 2022, transforming it into one of the city's key landmarks. The red brick loop path around the pond has become the most popular spot for recreational walks, while new piers, bridges, and wooden terraces allow visitors to get closer to the water. The small island serves as a cozy retreat for gatherings and sunbathing.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The renovation of Senvag Park was crucial in reshaping Panevys' image. Once known for its industrial past and history of criminal activity, Panevys has become an appealing place to live, offering great public spaces and a vibrant cultural life. This transformation began with the revitalization of public areas in the historical center. While Senvag was always a scenic spot, decades of neglect had left it with deteriorating infrastructure and limited appeal. Accessibility was also a challenge due to height differences and numerous stairs.Save this picture!Save this picture! The new design for Senvag Park had several key goals: establish a fresh city identity, improve accessibility, bring people closer to the water, and foster community. The main goal was to create a new city landmark, a "postcard" destination that would inspire residents to see the city with fresh eyes. The red brick loop path, connecting various points of interest and pocket spaces, quickly became a recognizable feature for leisurely strolls. Improving accessibility was also a priority. Height differences and stairs had made the park difficult to navigate, particularly for those with mobility challenges. Newly designed paths, ramps, bridges, and cycling routes now link neighborhoods, viewpoints, and public buildings, making the park much more accessible.Save this picture!Another objective was to bring people closer to the water. Piers, bridges, and terraces now encourage interaction with the lake, while the island offers a peaceful space for relaxation and sunbathing. Most importantly, Senvag Park is a space for the community. It includes playgrounds, a sports area, cafe terraces, and spaces for markets and festivals. Panevys is known for its sporting events, especially swimming and triathlons, many of which take place in the park. Local triathletes even helped design the park, providing input on pier sizes and distances, ensuring it suited sports competitions.Save this picture! With its simple design, improved routes, use of natural materials, and increased greenery, Senvag has become a favorite among residents. It's now a hub for festivals, daily meetings, and walks, while also attracting tourists. This surge in activity has led to more cafes, events, and overall livability. Senvag Park truly is the heart of Panevys. In 2024, the project was awarded among the five best architectural works in Lithuania in the biennial exhibition "Introspection".Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:A.
