Alvisi Kirimoto reimagines the classical temple as a living organism at Milan Design Week
html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd" The international studio Alvisi Kirimoto unveiled an installation in the Exhibition-Event Cre-Action by Interni during Fuorisalone 2025.The historic courtyard of Università degli Studi di Milano "La Statale" is brought to life with the project, TAM TAM. Temple, Action, Movement, which invites guests to participate in introspection and collective action. From April 7 to April 17, 2025, TAM TAM. Temple, Action, Movement is accessible for visitors in the ancient courtyard of Università degli Studi di Milano "La Statale." Alvisi Kirimoto reimagines the traditional temple as a living, breathing organism that is constantly evolving, rather than as a static monument, inspired by the exhibition's subject, which blends Creativity and Action. The six columns of different diameters in the 6 x 6 x 5 m installation are dynamic components that guests can move and rearrange to change the area in real time. The installation incorporates the ideas of flexibility and participation with the classical principles of firmitas, utilitas, and venustas. The columns, which have historically represented stability, now serve as a concrete metaphor for how interpersonal relationships evolve."With TAM TAM. Temple, Action, Movement, we started with the idea of the Temple, transforming it into a dynamic organism that adapts and responds to the needs of those who inhabit it. For us, architecture is not just about form, but about relationships and sensory experience," explained Junko Kirimoto, co-founder of the Alvisi Kirimoto studio. "Our goal was to create a space in constant transformation, one that fosters interaction and allows each visitor to become an integral part of its evolutionary process." "Architecture thus becomes an open dialogue, a continuous encounter between the individual and the environment that hosts them, where context and experience intertwine in mutual transformation," Kirimoto added. The complex nature of TAM TAM. Temple, Action, Movement explores how human interactions and space interact. On the one hand, architecture directs the visitor even if it is changeable; the placement of the columns, their size, and the spaces they create subtly imply passageways, rest spots, and places for conversation. However, by shifting the columns, visitors to the installation alter not only its layout but also the web of connections it suggests: a corridor delineated by the columns either narrows to delineate more private and secluded spaces or widens into a communal area akin to a square. The form and significance of the space are determined by human decisions, which are ongoing and always evolving. In this dynamic conflict between space and action, architecture "proposes," people "respond," and people "reinterpret," revealing the true character of the installation. An architecture that communicates rather than imposes; that encourages change via interpersonal contact rather than dictating. If it were a blank page only waiting to be filled, the structure's white embodies the idea of possibility like itself. Alvisi Kirimoto highlights the essence of the space, the purity of the forms, and, most importantly, the core of the human experience by removing colors, textures, and superfluous decorations in favor of the installation's dynamic elements, such as the movement of the columns, visitor gestures, and the voids that are created and filled. The National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling, and Recovery of Plastic Packaging, or COREPLA, is a strategic hub between companies, municipalities, and citizens. As such, TAM TAM. Temple, Action, Movement is constructed from recycled plastic in accordance with a design approach that emphasizes material life cycles. The Consortium works to properly manage the lifecycle of plastic packaging, which is clearly in the public interest. COREPLA aims to meet the recycling and recovery goals set by the European Union by uniting about 2,500 businesses within the plastic packaging supply chain. The installation may become an itinerant project after the event, and the materials used to create it will be recycled into new goods, giving the installation a second chance at life.SketchFloor planElevationAlvisi Kirimoto imagined an educational center like "a light leaf" in the Florence green landscape, Italy. In addition, Alvisi Kirimoto together with Studio Gemma added a bold and floating educational hub to the LUISS University Campus, Rome, Italy. Project factsProject name: TAM TAM. Competition results: Peja Culture Pavilion winner revealed
The winners of an open international competition to revitalise and transform a neglected public space in the centre of Peja, Kosovo have been announced Open to everyone and organised by Buildner, the anonymous competition sought proposals to revitalise the site of a 15th-century water fountain which has played a crucial role in the social and cultural history of the settlement but has fallen into disrepair in recent years. Alexandra Ilinca Domnescu, Daria-Alexandra Pirvu, and Mario Eduard Peiciu from Romania won first prize and a student award for their ‘Trace’ proposal featuring an oval amphitheatre and a cultural pavilion. The winning concept features mirrored elements intended to enhance visual continuity with tiered seating designed to improve acoustic performance during events. Second place and the sustainability award went to Jiongyuan Chen from China while third place was awarded to Shpend Pashtriku, Sarah-Alexandra Agill, and Kaltrina Pashtriku from the UK. The €50,000 project, backed by Collective Action for Culture which specialises in rejuvenating urban spaces through artistic expression and community involvement, aims to upgrade the site and deliver a ‘flexible multipurpose pavilion and an engaging outdoor space’ which integrates and celebrates the water fountain. The winning entries will be considered for construction by the project backers. Located in the Rugova mountainous region around 70km west of Pristina, Peja is the fourth largest city in Kosovo with a population of 96,500 people. Local landmarks include the Kinema Jusuf Gërvalla which was constructed in the 1950s and reconstructed following the war at the turn of the Millennium. The Peja Culture Pavilion contest focused on the site of a neglected water fountain located on the city’s main boulevard close to the river and central square. The project aims to revitalise and enhance the site by delivering a new pavilion that provides a ‘versatile environment for social events, art activities, and community gatherings.’ Key aims of the project include transforming the dilapidated public space into a ‘vibrant public hotspot’ and achieving a balance of ‘contemporary architectural advancements with historical conservation.’ Proposals for the €50,000 intervention were required to include a 50-70m² pavilion structure suitable for exhibitions and community meetings, an outdoor amphitheatre, a central feature around the water fountain, green spaces and public art. Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti could be 20% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti
Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5060 Ti 16GB graphics card has once again surfaced in leaked benchmarks, showcasing a sizable performance uplift over its predecessor. According to data obtained by VideoCardz, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB outpaces the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB by approximately 20% in synthetic tests, while trailing the RTX 5070 by nearly 33%. The leaked benchmarks results are primarily from 3DMark’s suite of tests including SpeedWay, Steel Nomad, Port Royal, Fire Strike and Time Spy, suggesting that the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB offers a notable generational improvement over the RTX 4060 Ti.   Recommended Videos As per the shared data, in Speed Way, the card scored 4,055, which is about 25% faster than the 4060 Ti’s 3,239. The Steel Nomad benchmark showed a score of 3,455, roughly 18% ahead of its predecessor’s 2,932. Ray tracing performance in Port Royal was particularly impressive, with the 5060 Ti achieving 9,944 points, marking a 22.6% improvement over the 4060 Ti’s 8,112. Related In DirectX 12 workloads, Time Spy results showed the 5060 Ti pulling 15,389, compared to 13,469 on the 4060 Ti, translating to a 14% gain. In the more demanding Time Spy Extreme, the upcoming card scored 7,136, around 16% better than the 6,153 posted by the 4060 Ti. Traditional rasterization tests also favored the 5060 Ti, with Fire Strike showing a jump to 40,925 from 34,295, an increase of almost 19%. The more intense Fire Strike Extreme saw the 5060 Ti deliver 19,556, beating the 4060 Ti’s 15,937 by around 22.7%. Finally, in Fire Strike Ultra, the card managed 9,175, a notable 25.8% improvement over the 7,294 of the previous generation. This data likely comes from a reviewer, so it should give a reasonable indication of the card’s performance, but since the numbers aren’t official it’s best to approach them with some caution. Interestingly, VideoCardz reports that Nvidia is restricting AIBs from sending out the 8GB variant for reviews, meaning most launch-day coverage will focus on the 16GB model. That’s important to note as the larger memory size can heavily impact performance in VRAM-hungry games. Similarly, leaked Geekbench test results were reportedly spotted a few days ago, further hinting at a consistent generational uplift for the RTX 5060 Ti. Nvidia is expected to launch the RTX 5060 Ti on April 16 in two configurations: 8GB and 16GB. Both versions will feature the GB206-300-A1 GPU, boasting 4,608 CUDA cores and GDDR7 memory on a 128-bit memory interface. With a 180W TGP, the card should arrive with a single 8-pin connector although there might be a few models that feature the infamous 12V-2×6 power connector. With pricing rumored between $400–$450, the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB could be a compelling option for gamers who want a taste of Nvidia’s latest Blackwell architecture without spending an exorbitant amount of money. Sam Altman has a crib recommendation — and it's not the Snoo
New dad Sam Altman recommended the Cradlewise crib. Stefano Guidi/Getty Images 2025-04-14T05:57:29Z Save Saved Read in app This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now. Have an account? Sam Altman, a dad and OpenAI's CEO, loves one smart crib for his baby son. His top baby gear picks so far are Cradlewise's crib and lots of burp cloths. At $1,999, Cradlewise is pricer than the Snoo — but it can be used for longer. OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, is deep in new-dad life — and he's already sharing strong opinions on baby gear."We bought a lot of silly baby things that we haven't needed," he posted on X on Sunday night. "But definitely I recommend a Cradlewise crib and a lot more burp rags than you think you could possibly need."Cradlewise hasn't made as many headlines as its older and bigger competitor, the Snoo — the sleek, motorized bassinet that's basically the Tesla of baby tech. The Snoo, designed by celebrity pediatrician Harvey Karp, has been the go-to setup for sleep-deprived parents for nearly a decade. It uses motion, white noise, and a built-in swaddle to gently rock babies back to sleep.Retailing at $1,695, or $159 a month to rent, the Snoo has amassed a devoted fan base, including celebrity parents like Justin Timberlake and Zoe Saldaña, who invested in the company.Altman's pick, Cradlewise, works a little differently — and at nearly $2,000, it's the pricier option.Instead of waiting for cries, it bounces the baby gently up and down to preempt fussing. It also skips the built-in swaddle, one of Snoo's signature features, and includes a built-in baby monitor and music features.Parents can use Cradlewise's crib for longer with a growing baby. The Snoo tops out at around six months old. Cradlewise converts from bassinet to crib, so it can be used until the baby turns two years old or meets other milestones, like weight.Neither company responded to Business Insider's request for comment. 'Having a kid changed a lot of things'Altman and his husband, software engineer Oliver Mulherin, welcomed their baby boy in February. The newborn came early and spent some time in the neonatal intensive care unit."I have never felt such love," Altman posted on X shortly after becoming a dad.Speaking at a TED event on Friday, Altman called parenthood "by far the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me.""Having a kid changed a lot of things," he said. "The kind of cost of not being with my kid is just like crazily high."Altman added, "I really cared about like not destroying the world before. I really care about it now."He joked, "I didn't need a kid for that part." Recommended video
