AI Scares Me, But I’m Still Using It (Carefully)
AI Scares Me, But I’m Still Using It (Carefully)3 min read·Just now--Imagine generated with AILook — I’m not an expert on AI. Not a tech head. Just a regular person trying to stay afloat in a world spinning faster than we can process. Here’s the truth: AI’s here to stay. It can polish your resume, clean up your emails, and balance your budget like a pro. It can even diagnose diseases, predict disasters, and slash energy waste. That’s the shiny side of the coin. But here’s the rusty edge: we’re building this future on shaky ground. Greed’s driving the train now. No one wants guardrails — not the tech giants chasing profits, not the politicians trading truth for clout. Checks and balances? That’s bad for business. So we race toward the cliff, high-fiving each other as the ground cracks beneath our feet. Ouch. The Internet’s New LawlessnessThe web’s already a dumpster fire. Lies masquerade as news. Outrage fuels engagement. Trust? Gone. Now imagine AI as the arsonist — deepfakes of politicians declaring wars that never happened, bots mimicking your mom’s voice to scam your savings, fake videos of you doing things you’d never do. This isn’t hypothetical.Last year, AI scammers faked a company exec’s voice and walked off with $25 million. During elections? Deepfakes and propaganda bots swarm like locusts — because chaos is profitable.Social media is the perfect kindling. Platforms already reward lies over facts and filters over reality. Now throw in AI-generated influencers who don’t exist, articles written by algorithms chasing clicks, and images so convincing you’ll question your own eyes. You know the drill: the catchy headline and article you thought you clicked wasn’t real. Just bait to steal your data or infect your device. We’re not users anymore — we’re lab rats in a dopamine experiment gone wrong. The Coming Digital Gold Rush (With No Sheriffs)Here’s the part that chills me: we’re letting wolves guard the henhouse. Tech companies are pushing AI tools faster than we can grasp the consequences. Governments? Either clueless or complicit. Meanwhile, your data — your face, voice, and private messages — are being scraped and sold to the highest bidder. Blackmail’s gone algorithmic. In some countries, criminals already use AI to clone voices for ransom…

ChatGPT got another viral moment with ‘AI action figure’ trend
ChatGPT’s image generation feature has sparked a new wave of personalised digital creations, with LinkedIn users leading a trend of turning themselves into action figures. The craze began picking up momentum after the viral Studio Ghibli-style portraits sees users sharing images of themselves as boxed dolls – complete with accessories and job-themed packaging. There are several variations in the latest wave of AI-generated self-representation. The most common format is similar to a traditional action figure or Barbie doll, with props like coffee mugs, books, and laptops reflecting users’ professional lives. The images are designed to resemble toy store displays, complete with bold taglines and personalised packaging. The movement gained initial attention on LinkedIn, where professionals used the format to showcase their brand identities more playfully. The “AI Action Figure” format, in particular, resonated with marketers, consultants, and others looking to present themselves as standout figures – literally. Popularity of the service has since trickled into other platforms including Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, though engagement remains largely centred around LinkedIn. ChatGPT’s image tool – part of its GPT-4o release – serves as the engine. Users upload a high-resolution photo of themselves, usually full-body, with a custom prompt describing how the final image should look. Details frequently include the person’s name, accessories, outfit styles, and package details. Some opt for a nostalgic “Barbiecore” vibe with pink tones and sparkles, while others stick to a corporate design that reflects their day job. Refinements are common. Many users go through multiple image generations, changing accessories and rewording prompts until the figure matches their wanted personality or profession. The result is a glossy, toy-style portrait that crosses the line between humour and personal branding. While the toy-style trend hasn’t seen the same viral reach as the Ghibli portrait craze, it has still sparked a steady flow of content across platforms. Hashtags like #AIBarbie and #BarbieBoxChallenge have gained traction, and some brands – including Mac Cosmetics and NYX – were quick to participate. A few public figures have joined in too, most notably US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who shared a doll version of herself featuring accessories like a Bible and gavel. Regardless of the buzz, engagement levels are different. Many posts receive limited interaction, and most well-known influencers have avoided the trend. Nevertheless, it highlights ChatGPT’s growing presence in mainstream online culture, and its ability to respond to users’ creativity using relatively simple tools. The is not the first time ChatGPT’s image generation tool has overwhelmed the platform. When the Ghibli-style portraits first went viral, demand spiked so dramatically that OpenAI temporarily limited image generation for free accounts. CEO Sam Altman later described the surge in users as “biblical demand,” noting a dramatic rise in daily active users and infrastructure stress. The Barbie/action figure trend, though at a smaller scale, follows that same path – using ChatGPT’s simple interface and its growing popularity as a creative tool. As with other viral AI visuals, the trend has also raised broader conversations about identity, aesthetics, and self-presentation in digital spaces. However, unlike the Ghibli portrait craze, it hasn’t attracted much criticism – at least not yet. The format’s appeal lies in its simplicity. It offers users a way to engage with AI-generated art without needing technical skills, and satisfies an urge for of self-expression. The result is something like part professional head-shot, part novelty toy, and part visual joke, making it a surprisingly versatile format for social media sharing. While some may see the toy model phenomenon as a gimmick, others view it as a window into what’s possible when AI tools are placed directly in users’ hands. For now, whether it’s a mini-me holding a coffee mug or a Barbie-style figure ready for the toy shelf, ChatGPT is again changing how people choose to represent themselves in the digital age. Rematch Was Never Considered for a Free-to-Play Release – Creative Director
News Rematch Was Never Considered for a Free-to-Play Release – Creative Director Sloclap's Pierre Tarno spoke about the studio respecting that the players will recognise the quality and uniqueness of Rematch. Posted By Joelle Daniels | On 14th, Apr. 2025 Multiplayer football game Rematch, developed by the studio behind martial arts action game Sifu, was never considered for a free-to-play release according to the developers. Speaking to PCGamer, Rematch creative director Pierre Tarno spoke about the decision behind the 5-on-5 multiplayer game’s $30 price tag, and why it doesn’t have to be free-to-play to find success. “I never considered free-to-play,” said Tarno. “One of the things I love about making games is that there is no secret formula or anything, but the best way—or maybe actually the only way—to make a commercial success is to just make a very good game.” The decision comes down to the fact that Sloclap wants to respect the skill and intelligence of its players. This means that the studio also trusts that, if its game is good enough, it will find a player base without having to go free-to-play. Tarno also believes that Rematch is reasonably priced, which, combined with the fact that its gameplay is “original and solid” would mean that players will “get it”. “One of our cultural pillars at Sloclap is respecting our players, respecting their intelligence, respecting their skills,” he said. “We like challenging gameplay and gamers are a very discerning audience. They are often very analytical, very precise in their assessment of mechanics and what works, what doesn’t, what’s balanced, what’s not balanced, etc.” “My point is, if you make a game that’s good enough, that’s unique enough—even if players say, ‘Oh, it’s an online game with a competitive edge, it should be free-to-play otherwise it’s dead on arrival’—I think that’s not true. I think that if it’s original and solid, plus very reasonably priced, players will get it.” Rematch was announced with a trailer back in December 2024 during The Game Awards. The title will be a multiplayer football game that has each player take on the role of an individual player on the field. In terms of gameplay, Sloclap has promised intense third-person action and online competition, all tied up with skill-based gameplay. Earlier this month, the studio had announced that Rematch would be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on June 19. This release date was announced with a new Golden Rules trailer. The trailer showcased some of the skill-based gameplay of the upcoming title, and even went as far as suggesting that players taking on the role of goalkeepers shouldn’t be sticking to just their box, and should instead play a more active role in defense. When it comes to visuals, Rematch uses a visual aesthetic similar to what we saw with Sifu, including an emphasis on vibrant colours with more flat and stylised surfaces. If you’re curious about Sloclap’s previous outing, check out our review of Sifu from all the way back in 2022, where we gave the game a score of 8 out of 10. In our review, we praised Sifu‘s visuals, combat and enemy variety, while also criticising its camera controls and a lack of diversity in its weapons. With Series S as the lowest target, and respective handhelds aiming for that kind of ballpark too. Next-gen home consoles then being guaranteed 60+fps with lots of raytracing etc bells and whistles at 4k, but PS5 and Series S/X still being supported at 30fps and 1080p+. With both Sony and Microsoft looking to release a handheld next-gen, they may as well keep targeting current-gen consoles too. The more important part of it is how are they going to handle getting games to scale to it, really specifically anything that came out before devs were given a profile/dev kit for the device. They're certainly not going the PSP/Vita route with bespoke titles so they'll have to have a way to force games to run at lower resolutions/settings for them to run on the device.   cw_sasuke Member Oct 27, 2017 29,628 jwk94 said: Though I understand that a significant portion of ps5 gamers are digital so dropping physical BC wouldn't be unwarranted, but how would this handle discs? Yep  kakteen Member Apr 9, 2024 848 So I will probably just buy portable ps6 and play other games on my ps5. If anything told me, cross gen until 2030 and the console will cost 500€ more than release date   R3ndezvous Member Dec 17, 2024 1,027 Given the numerous first-party ports to PC, I'd say there's a good merit for a PS5 Portable to have their own "PS5" version of those respective ports, given that Sony already had to scale back some game titles across various range of hardware (that doesn't mean its plug and play ofc and it'll run Sony's OS and APis). Nonetheless, given the Switch 2's existence, an alternative console platform for the PS ecosystem is valid, instead of a portable system with its own games. I assume it's going to be UDNA1 based, given the timelines for next generation. AMD already has an APU with 4x Zen 5 + 8x Zen 5c cores on the HX 370, which has an 18CU RDNA 3.5 GPU made on TSMC N4P, which is better than the Steam Deck at 15W, but not generationally better afaik. I'm curious how the Ryzen Max 385, 8x Zen 5 + 32CU RDNA 3.5 performs compares to PS5 equivalent PC settings and how much it'll scale down in terms of power. I think those two chips today are somewhat of a ballpark estimate of what "power" you could achieve with AMD now, without leveraging FSR4 and upscaling. Apple's M4 has got quite a big leap by being on TSMC's N3E coming from TSMC's 5nm.  s y Member Nov 8, 2017 10,739 Sony managed to sell almost 2 million PlayStation portals(about half the steam deck's LTD) and that can't even run games natively and people are wondering what the appeal is lmao   Fabs Member Aug 22, 2019 2,615 There was never any chance this natively ran PS5 games. Apple’s iPhone Fold Leak Hints At Crispier Resolution For Inner And Outer Displays, With An In-Display Camera Expected To Deliver A Seamless Viewing Experience
Apple's first foldable iPhone is shaping up to be quite a solid contender against Samsung's Galaxy-branded foldables and Google's Pixel Fold. We have previously reported that the iPhone Fold will feature an internal display of 7.76 inches, and today, a leaker shared details on the resolution of the inner and outer screens. Apple's foldable iPhone leak suggests sharper display resolution with an under-screen camera for an intrusion-free experience Apple's forthcoming foldable iPhone, also rumored as the iPhone Fold, will feature two screens in a book-style design. A Chinese leaker who goes by the name of Digital Chat Station claims that the inner display will be 7.76 inches with a resolution of 2,713 x 1,920 and an in-display "under-screen camera technology." The outer 5.49-inch display will have a 2,088 x 1,422 resolution, but unlike the inner display, it will have a punch-hole camera. The leaker also previously claimed that the iPhone Fold will have a 4:3 aspect ratio for the inner display and leaked the dimensions of the display. Prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also corroborated these findings and added that the inner display will be free of any creases, which has been a major point of concern for Apple since early rumors emerged. However, there have been no reports suggesting that the inner display will have an in-display camera sensor, making it the first. It is possible that Apple puts the Dynamic Island on the outer display of the iPhone Fold for faster authentication. This could be the reason why the company is opting for a hole-punch on the outer display rather than on the inside. However, Apple could ditch Face ID altogether for the Fold, opting for a more tradition Touch ID solution, possibly in the Power Button. It was previously reported that Apple is also working on a large 18.8-inch foldable iPad, and the leaker previously claimed that the device will feature the new in-display Face ID sensors for authentication purposes. If the news has any heft, the foldable iPad running macOS could be the first to get under-screen Face ID sensors. Kuo also believes that Apple will let go of Face ID for its iPhone Fold, but it remains to be seen if the company will opt for Touch ID in the Power Button like the iPad Air lineup or put an in-display sensor similar to the Galaxy S25 lineup. It is believed that Apple will launch its first foldable iPhone by the end of next year with a price tag of as much as $2,000. According to analyst Jeff Pu, the device has already entered the New Product Introduction phase. We will share more details on the iPhone Fold as we get closer to the launch. Would you upgrade to the foldable iPhone if it costs $2,000 or more? Deal of the Day
