Elon Musk Reportedly Now Admitting He's Out of His Depth
DOGE Days Elon Musk still hasn't publicly admitted that his days as the White House's chief hatchet man are numbered — but behind the scenes, he's apparently singing a different tune. According to a source familiar with Musk's thinking who spoke to the Washington Post on condition of anonymity, the unelected billionaire is ready to leave Donald Trump's administration because he's grown weary of "attacks" from the "left." The multi-hyphenate business owner believes, per WaPo's insider, that his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will continue to do its important "work" gutting federal agencies, and won't be harmed by his exit. Whether or not that's true remains to be seen, though as another anonymous insider told the newspaper, the "results speak for themselves." "No one can say DOGE has not achieved a historic amount of success," said the senior White House official — conveniently ignoring the fact that Musk retreated from his promise to excise $2 trillion from the budget to a borderline-meaningless $150 billion. Haterade In the weeks since Politico reported that the president has been telling confidantes that Musk is on his way out — reporting that the White House called "garbage" and Musk slammed as "fake news" — there has been more indication than ever that the natalist billionaire has detractors in the Trump administration. "Talking to the guy is sometimes like listening to really rusty nails on a chalkboard," a senior official, who again was granted anonymity to speak freely, told Rolling Stone earlier this month. "He’s just the most irritating person I’ve ever had to deal with, and that is saying something." Not long after, Trump's pick for NASA administrator, Jared Isaacman, publicly distanced himself from Musk when asked about his relationship with the fellow billionaire who once sent him into orbit on a SpaceX rocket. "I want to absolutely be clear: My loyalty is to this nation, the space agency, and their world-changing mission," Isaacman told the Senate during his confirmation hearing on April 9 when asked about Musk and SpaceX. "They're the contractors, NASA is the customer. They work for us, not the other way around." Though the juvenile-minded owner of the everything app seems to insist that left-wingers are the ones bringing him down, it seems he doesn't want to admit the obvious: that the call is coming inside the White House. Learning Tapestry: Senior Full Stack Engineer (Ruby on Rails/React)
**About Learning Tapestry**Hi! We're Learning Tapestry. We're a 25+ person all-remote, global organization dedicated to making digital learning "just work" for educators and learners alike. We solve hard problems in complex education technology environments. We’re a triple bottom line company: we make a profit like any good business; our work makes the world better (“social impact”); and we strive to create a healthy internal work environment for everyone who works here. For our staff we believe in flexible work locations and working arrangements.  We empower all of our team members to manage their schedules and adjust as necessary. We're focused on results and impact, not locations and hours. We hire people with great technical ability, but we also expect everyone at Learning Tapestry to have a strong personal character and solid communication skills. We highly value effective software architecture, test-driven development methods, and good project management methodology. We believe in having a strong CI and deployment pipeline that enables us to focus on writing good software.**What We’re Looking For**You’re an exceptional professional software engineer with at least 8 years of software engineering experience. Our ideal candidate is available 30-40 hours per week during US Central standard business hours. We ask everyone who works here to be fluent or highly proficient in written and spoken English, and easily understood by US-based speakers (we ask for this to allow everyone in the company to be able to communicate with each other, rather than having to go through intermediates). Please read through this entire job description before applying, as there is critical information about how to apply included. Please do not apply by reaching out to other company emails or individuals: please note that applying using other communication channels will result in your application not being considered.**Required Skills and Experience**At least eight years of Software Engineering Experience, with a minimum of five years doing senior engineering work such as solution design, architecture, code review, full stack engineering, or similar tasks. You have very good written communication skills, fluent written English, and comfortable, clear spoken English. Must be available during US Central standard business hours (UTC -6) You can write in multiple languages fluently, efficiently, and reliably, and are expert in writing in Ruby on Rails, and React (or similar modern JS framework).Help maintain professional standards for the entire organization.Have deep, substantial expertise in multiple programming environments.Capable of executing projects across multiple technical domains (“full stack,” data architecture, devops, etc).Have an interest and ability to learn new technical subjects when you need to solve new types of problems. Can pursue investigation and problem solving into issues to resolve them, and can also recognize when it’s more efficient to ask for help vs push forward to solve a problem. The New Tornado Alley Has Been Hyperactive this Year
April 21, 20252 min readThe New Tornado Alley Has Been Hyperactive this YearMore tornadoes than usual have already struck the U.S. in 2025—and many of them have been touching down farther east than they had in the pastBy Mark Fischetti edited by Dean VisserEF2 tornado lofting debris from a home in Lockett, Texas. Jason Weingart/Getty ImagesBy last Saturday, the National Weather Service reported that 552 tornadoes had occurred in the U.S. this year—well above the average total of 337 for the period of January through April in 1991–2020. Then an outbreak struck Texas and Oklahoma on Saturday night, killing at least three people. Parts of those two states were at the center of the twister-prone “tornado alley” for most of the 1900s, but this well-known corridor has been shifting steadily eastward in the past three and a half decades. This year many of the touchdowns that caused deaths occurred in Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee, all east of the old alley. In 2023 Scientific American created a map, based on a then new extensive study to show the shift in large tornado outbreaks.Daniel P. Huffman (map); Source: “Examining the Changes in the Spatial Manifestation and the Rate of Arrival of Large Tornado Outbreaks,” by Niloufar Nouri and Naresh Devineni, in Environmental Research Communications, Vol. 4; February 2022 (data)On supporting science journalismIf you're enjoying this article, consider supporting our award-winning journalism by subscribing. Wet, westerly winds from the Pacific Ocean become dry as they pass over the the Rocky Mountains, then become high and cool as they blow farther east. Meanwhile warm, humid air streams northward from the Gulf of Mexico, moving at a lower elevation. Flat terrain along these paths allows the two streams to run into each other. The angles at which they collide tend to create unstable air and wind shear—two big factors that favor tornado formation.Where has tornado alley moved? For decades, most of the largest outbreaks occurred across northeastern Texas, eastern Oklahoma, and western Arkansas and Missouri. But between 1989 and 2019, the focus shifted eastward by 400 to 500 miles, covering western Kentucky and Tennessee plus northern Mississippi and Alabama. Why is tornado alley sliding eastward? Most tornadoes are created by a supercell—a strong thunderstorm with a rotating updraft of air. Supercells tend to form when warm, humid, low-level air interacts with cool, dry, higher air. And climate change is now generating more of that warmer, moister air. Tornadoes also are more likely to develop when the local atmosphere is unstable, and warming increases instability. Climate change is warming the Gulf of Mexico as well, and this can send generous amounts of water vapor into the southeastern U.S.—farther east than it tended to travel decades ago. In addition, climate change has moved the rough north-south boundary between dry western U.S. air and moist, eastern U.S. air about 140 miles to the east. Why does the shift matter?Tornado shelters are common in Texas and Oklahoma but less so in other U.S. regions. The Southeast is more densely populated, and mobile homes (which often fare poorly in windstorms) are prevalent. Tornadoes in the Southeast also occur at night more often than those that strike farther west do, in part because winds can bring ample moisture from the Gulf after dark. And nighttime makes it much harder to see a storm coming.

Hypercharge Unboxed 2 will be the “ultimate childhood dream” when the inevitable sequel releases, reveals dev
You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here Digital Cybercherries’ Hypercharge Unboxed is coming to PlayStation 4 and 5, marking the last stop in the game’s long journey to come to all available platforms. While the game’s journey still has a while until its all wrapped up, the small team is already looking at a potential sequel. In an interview with VideoGamer, game designer Joe Henson explained that a Hypecharge Unboxed 2 is certainly on the cards for the team, as well as a VR version of the original. After a decade of working on the current game, the team is filled with ideas for a sequel as soon as they’re freed from the admittedly rusted framework of the original. Hypercharge Unboxed 2 will be a massive step up Henson explained that the small team of five developers “get to start from scratch now on the next game” when they move to their inevitable sequel. The game designer explained that the team is “held back technically” with the current game, limiting what can and can’t be added to the title. “The next Hypercharge will be the ultimate childhood dream action figure game, because it’ll have all the features we originally wanted but couldn’t have,” Henson explained. “And it’s going to be some pretty cool features.” Henson also teased that the sequel will be in a different genre to the original which is a light tower defence title with wave-based combat. While the game designer didn’t reveal what genre the eventual sequel will be, they did tease that it will be a “really fun genre” that’s “super exciting” for fans. At the time of writing, the team hasn’t yet decided on what engine will power the next entry in the series. However, considering the team’s experience with Unreal Engine 4 for the original game, upgrading to Unreal Engine 5 is the obvious step forward. “I think likely we may go to Unreal Engine 5,” Henson explained. “We’ll have to dive a bit deeper into it and see what makes the most sense, but Unreal 5 is definitely a possibility. And it’s exciting as well, you know, to get into a new engine.” By moving to Unreal Engine 5, Digital Cybercherries will have access to new technology that will make their already-great-looking toybox shooter look even better such as Lumen lighting, Nanite and other goodies. The future of Hypercharge Unboxed is bright, especially as the game’s long-awaited PlayStation port comes to fruition. After ten years of work, there’s still more to be done, but we’re incredibly excited to see what comes of the game’s inevitable follow-up. The agency has previously used classified technology in ordinary criminal investigations, pushed back against demands to provide details of hacking operations to defendants, and purchased technology from surveillance vendors. “Potentially responsive records were identified during the search,” a response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request I sent about a specific hacking tool contract says. “However, we were advised that they were not in their expected locations. An additional search for the missing records also met with unsuccessful results. Random: Paul Rudd "Got A Real Kick" Out Of Reuniting With Nintendo For New Commercial
Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube809k If you haven't seen the new Nintendo Switch 2 commercial featuring Paul Rudd, where have you been? It's a delightful throwback to one of the Ant Man and Anchorman actor's first ever acting roles, a SNES commercial from 1991. It's daft, it's silly, and we didn't think we could love Rudd anymore. Following the commercial's release, IGN published an interview with the actor who talked about reuniting with Nintendo 34 years after their first partnership. "Well, Nintendo reached out to me," Rudd told IGN's Brian Altano, saying that he "got a real kick out of this idea" to revisit the original commercial. "I just thought that this idea they had about redoing it was really funny and it would be fun and it just kind of came about like that."Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube809kWatch on YouTube After chatting about the questionable fashion choices in the 1991 SNES ad, which Rudd and Nintendo have replicated in the 2025 revamp, Altano asks Rudd if the new commercial made him "miss the '90s." Rudd laughs, and says "I think it made me nostalgic in all of the right ways," which we'd say is a success — and exactly how the commercial made us feel. Emphasising that feeling more, Rudd continues that it "did have this feel of nostalgia but kind of all leaning toward the future and it was kind of fun to see both of those things hit at the same time." The actor also talks about growing up close to an arcade, which he remembers being "the greatest thing ever." And his favourite game? Donkey Kong, the OG arcade version. Rudd speaks fondly of the game, saying it was "so different" from any other games at the time. The duo talk about Rudd's thoughts on Mario, his favourite Mario Kart racer, the ability to play Switch while traveling for work, and the Switch 2's camera and GameChat functionality in a rather lovely little conversation. Check out the brief chat up top if you want to hear what Rudd thinks of the Switch 2, and then let us know what you think of this retro revival in the comments. Super together! The Academy’s Board of Governors has just announced its 2025 awards seasons dates as well as a series of approved awards rules and campaign promotional regulations for the 98th Academy Awards. As previously announced, the 98th Oscars will air live on ABC on Sunday, March 15, 2026. In a procedural change, Academy members must now watch all nominated films in each category to be eligible to vote in the final Oscars round. All designated nominees will also be included on the final ballot. Category rules for eligibility and voting for the inaugural Academy Award for Achievement in Casting have been codified. There will be a preliminary round of voting to determine a shortlist of 10 films, and prior to nominations voting, Casting Directors Branch members will be invited to view a “bake-off” presentation of the shortlisted achievements, including a Q&A with the designated nominees. Other awards rules changes include: In the rules for film eligibility, the following language regarding Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been introduced, as recommended by the Academy’s Science and Technology Council: With regard to Generative Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools used in the making of the film, the tools neither help nor harm the chances of achieving a nomination. The Academy and each branch will judge the achievement, taking into account the degree to which a human was at the heart of the creative authorship when choosing which movie to award. For consideration in the Best Picture category, films released from January 1, 2025, through June 30, 2025, must have shown proof of submission for Producers Guild of America (PGA) mark certification or awards-only determination no later than September 10, 2025. Films released from July 1, 2025, through December 31, 2025, must have shown proof of submission to the PGA no later than November 13, 2025. In the Animated Short Film category, voting privileges in the nominations round will be extended to all Academy members who opt in to participate. Members must view all 15 shortlisted films to be eligible to vote in the category. In the Cinematography category, there will now be a preliminary round of voting for the Cinematography award to determine a shortlist of between 10 and 20 films. In the International Feature Film category, the eligibility requirement regarding creative control has been updated to be inclusive of filmmakers with refugee or asylum status. The submitting country must confirm that creative control of the film was largely in the hands of citizens, residents, or individuals with refugee or asylum status in the submitting country. For the Music categories, there will now be a separate, earlier deadline of Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 5 p.m. PT for song submissions.
