With the upcoming launch of the Switch 2, Nintendo is giving Zelda fans more reasons to get excited, and to dig deeper into their wallets for spare bucks. Not only are there Switch 2 editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (each promising performance upgrades and intriguing Zelda Notes features), there are new Legend of Zelda amiibo, too. Four amiibo based on Riju, Tulin, Yunobo, and Sidon will hit shelves on June 5, the same day as the Switch 2, its accessories, and some games. The Zelda amiibo will cost $29.99 each — a price increase compared to previously launched amiibo of a similar level of design complexity, which we’ve typically seen retail between $15.99 and $19.99. On April 18, Nintendo announced they were also raising the prices of Switch 2 accessories in response to recently announced tariffs. In addition to these Legend of Zelda amiibo, you can pre-order new Street Fighter 6 amiibo, that are also coming out on June 5. The Nintendo Switch 2 won’t launch with a new 3D Mario game, but we will get the next best thing: a new 3D platforming game starring Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong Bananza will come out for the Switch 2 on July 17, and it’s currently available to pre-order from Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target for $69.99. (Note: GameStop online pre-orders don’t open until 11 a.m. EDT.) If Mario’s power is eating mushrooms and jumping on turtles, Donkey Kong’s power is eating bananas and punching stuff. Donkey Kong Bananza features plenty of platforming, but a key pillar of the gameplay is also DK’s ability to break things. Bananas may give humans a little pep in their step, but they bestow Donkey Kong with far better abilities, like chucking boulders, punching through walls, and generally causing wanton destruction. In some cases, DK is even capable of burrowing through surfaces and ripping chunks out of the environment. While Donkey Kong Bananza won’t be released in time for the Switch 2 launch, Mario Kart World and other titles will be hitting shelves on June 5 — the same day as the Switch 2 console itself. Netflix's May slate kicks off with a new comedy miniseries starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell: The Four Seasons (May 1) is an adaptation of Alan Alda's 1981 film in which three married couples take one of their quarterly weekend getaways, on which they discover that one is about to divorce. The series also features Marco Calvani, Colman Domingo, Will Forte, Erika Henningsen, and Kerri Kenney-Silver. Also on the comedy slate is black comedy series Sirens (May 22), in which Julianne Moore plays a socialite with a cult-like life of luxury. Kevin Bacon also stars. May brings the eighth and final season of adult animated sitcom Big Mouth (May 23), which includes a long list of guest stars in addition to the main cast voiced by Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, and others. Netflix is releasing several new installments of its Untold sports documentary series in May. It's essentially the same hardware and design as the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, with the same dimensions, weight, and 32GB of storage. It also has the same features, like the automatically adjusting front light, the IPX8 rating waterproof rating, wireless charging, and an ad-free lock screen that either shows the cover for the book you're reading, or generic wallpapers. The battery life is shorter than a Paperwhite, with eight weeks compared to 12, but still plenty for most people.The seven-inch color E Ink display seems to be the industry standard 300 pixels per inch (ppi) for black-and-white content and 150ppi for color, according to PCMag's review. If you love reading comics, this is where the Colorsoft Signature Edition shines. The colors look like printed newspaper quality, and there's a feature that provides a close-up of each comic panel so you can enjoy the art and read it without having to zoom in. Although the screen doesn't get too bright (94 nits of brightness), the screen does a good job at deflecting glare. The auto light adjuster is nice if you're coming indoors and outdoors a lot. I personally love the warm and cool front-light settings, as I like to read at night and not stress my eyes before bed. Considering it's only $25 more to upgrade from the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition to the color version, it makes it a great deal for anyone who needs a bit more color in their life.

The day has arrived — Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are now open in North America. The new console will be widely available on June 5, but if you signed up on Nintendo’s site in anticipate of pre-orders opening on April 24, you should have received (or will receive) an email that will give you access to place your order via Nintendo. In addition to direct from Nintendo, participating retailers will also have the $450 console and the $500 Mario Kart World bundle for pre-order. Those include GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy, Target and others. More Switch 2 details We knew from the teaser trailer for the Switch 2 that Nintendo's new hardware would be bigger and would have a new approach to the detachable Joy-Cons. The new Joy-Con 2 have a new C button, mouse controls and a built in gyroscope for tilt control. The console has a built-in mic to support a new feature called Game Chat that will let you communicate with friends in-game. The device is indeed a bit larger, with a 7.9-inch LCD screen that supports a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR and a 1080p resolution. When docked, you'll be able to play at up to 4K on your TV, and Nintendo says it improved the consoles internal speakers as well. The new dock also has a built-in fan to keep the console cool and help maintain performance during long play sessions. The Switch 2 has dual USB-C ports for charging, and the base storage amount has increased to 256GB. The Switch 2's storage can be expanded like the previous model, but it will only work with newer microSD Express cards. Tariffs and the Nintendo Switch 2 During its most recent Direct presentation at the start of April, Nintendo showed off more of the Switch 2 than it ever had before. That included the reveal of the April 9 pre-order opening date, in addition to the original $450 starting price. Shortly after, President Trump announced sweeping tariffs on China and other countries, prompting Nintendo to delay pre-orders in the US and Canada. In a reversal, President Trump then announced a 90-day pause on steep “reciprocal” tariffs affecting 75 countries, but also announced that the tariff imposed on China will go up even further (currently, it's up to 245 percent for that country). We now know that the original $450 price for the Switch 2 will remain the same in the US and Canada, but based on its official statement, it appears Nintendo is leaving the door open for potential future price increases. We also know that Nintendo started moving some of its Switch console manufacturing to Vietnam in 2019. The reciprocal tariff for Vietnam was set to be 46 percent, but that appears to be on hold for now in favor of a 10 percent reciprocal tariff that’s now in effect for the 90-day pause period. It has been speculated that Nintendo will boost production of Switch 2 consoles in Vietnam so it can stay on schedule, even if it sells the console at a loss in the short term.
