WWW.THEVERGE.COMClair Obscur: Expedition 33’s battles are best when you break themClair Obscur: Expedition 33 has flashy, thrilling battles, but the best thing about them is how you can twist the game’s many systems to your advantage. The turn-based RPG combat might feel familiar, but it offers a lot of ways to customize your approach to battles so that you can do absolutely devastating amounts of damage. In Expedition 33, you play as a group of Expeditioners who aim to destroy The Paintress, a mysterious being that erases everyone of a certain age every year. In battles, you can have up to three of your party participating in a fight, and should they all die, you can call in your teammates who are in reserve to try and finish off the enemies. To show you how deep the rabbit hole can go in customizing your team, here’s my approach to building out just one character, the fencer Maelle. Every character can equip three “Pictos,” which offer passive buffs like giving you the defense-boosting Shell status at the start of a fight. But after you win a few fights with a Pictos equipped, other characters can also equip the Pictos as a “Lumina” by using “Lumina Points,” which you accumulate through leveling up and by using a resource you can find in the game.Image: Kepler InteractiveWhen you mix and match Pictos and Luminas to stack complimentary bonuses, things really get going. For my version of Maelle, I set a combination of Pictos and Luminas that could let her deal potentially enormous amounts of damage, especially if a lucky critical hit and a coin-flip 200 percent damage buff went through. But as a counterbalance to Maelle’s huge power, some of the Pictos and Luminas also increased the amount of damage she received, so I added defensive ones that helped her better withstand hits.In battle, each character also has a unique mechanic that, when used properly, lets you make their attacks more effective. Maelle, for example, relies on different “stances” that you can shift into: an offensive stance that increases the damage you give but also the damage you receive, a defensive stance that reduces the damage you take, and a “virtuous” stance that does 200 percent damage but can be harder to set up.With Maelle, you can move into the different stances based on which of your six different “skills” you use in battle — and like with Pictos and Luminas, those are also customizable and have their own traits and potential synergies. It can be a lot to manage, and the game often helps in battles by adding a little sparkle to suggest a move for your current situation. But even within the first few hours of the game, I was able to grasp the potential of what was possible with the battle system. And with Maelle, when I nailed the combination of setting up the right stance and a lucky break from my Pictos and Luminas, I regularly could absolutely demolish my foes by dealing thousands of points of damage. (A late-game Pictos that let me exceed 9,999 points of damage in a single hit was particularly welcome.)RelatedThat’s just my approach with one character; each of the other party members has their own playstyles to experiment with and potential skills to use. Your equipped weapons are an element to consider, too. The game shines when everyone’s abilities and skills line up perfectly for a series of explosive hits, and it’s especially satisfying when things come together to melt down a tricky boss’s health bar.I definitely didn’t use Expedition 33’s battle system, which makes things easy to experiment with, to its fullest. Once I found a combination of characters and skills that I liked, I rarely deviated from them. But I have lots of ideas on how to try things differently for a hard mode run — I’m sure there are a lot more ways to absolutely break the game.See More:0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 47 Ansichten

9TO5MAC.COMApple smart glasses are getting closer to becoming a reality, per reportAccording to the latest edition of Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, Apple is continuing to develop its own pair of smart glasses. The product, now codenamed N50, is going to infuse some of the companies AI developments into a pair of glasses that hopefully won’t break the bank. It’s no secret that Apple’s true end goal is to develop industry-leading augmented reality glasses. However, we’re at least a few years from that being feasible for a consumer product. In the meanwhile, Apple wants to create its own pair of smart glasses, similar to Meta’s glasses collaboration with Ray-Ban. Meta Ray-Bans have become fairly popular, and infuse all sorts of tech (not displays, however) into a not-too-bulky pair of glasses: including cameras, microphones, an AI assistant, and speakers for listening to audio. Apple wants to follow a very similar approach, per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman: This device isn’t close to being ready yet, but the idea is to turn glasses into an Apple Intelligence device. The product will analyze the surrounding environment and feed information to the wearer, though it will stop well short of true augmented reality. In the past, Gurman has mentioned that Apple may not want to allow the glasses to take photos due to privacy concerns, though that’s still undecided. Gurman also once again mentioned that Apple is continuing to work on AirPods with cameras, which’ll also push its Visual Intelligence tech into new hardware. Both of these products will likely launch around 2027, according to previous reporting. What do you think about Apple developing a pair of smart glasses? Let us know in the comments. FUTURISM.COMProfessors Staffed a Fake Company Entirely With AI Agents, and You'll Never Guess What HappenedIf you've been worried about the AI singularity taking over every job and leaving you out on street, you can now breathe a sigh of relief, because AI isn't coming for your career anytime soon. Not because it doesn't want to — but because it literally can't.A recent experiment by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University staffed a fake software company entirely with AI Agents — an AI model designed to perform tasks on its own, basically — and the results were laughably chaotic. The simulation, dubbed TheAgentCompany, was fully stocked with artificial workers from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta. They filled roles as financial analysts, software engineers, and project managers, working alongside simulated coworkers like a faux-HR department and a chief technical officer. To see how the models fared in real-world environments, the researchers set tasks based on the day-to-day work of a real software company. The various AI agents found themselves navigating file directories, virtually touring new office spaces, and writing performance reviews for software engineers based on collected feedback. As Business Insider first reported, the results were dismal. The best-performing model was Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which struggled to finish just 24 percent of the jobs assigned to it. The study's authors note that even this meager performance is prohibitively expensive, averaging nearly 30 steps and a cost of over $6 per task.Google's Gemini 2.0 Flash, meanwhile, averaged a time-consuming 40 steps per finished task, but only had an 11.4 percent rate of success — the second highest of all the models. The worst AI employee was Amazon's Nova Pro v1, which finished just 1.7 percent of its assignments at an average of almost 20 steps.Speculating on the results, researchers wrote that agents are plagued with a lack of common sense, weak social skills, and a poor understanding of how to navigate the internet. The bots also struggled with self-deception — basically creating shortcuts that lead them to completely bungling the job. "For example," the Carnegie Mellon team wrote, "during the execution of one task, the agent cannot find the right person to ask questions on [company chat]. As a result, it then decides to create a shortcut solution by renaming another user to the name of the intended user."While AI agents can reportedly do some smaller tasks well, the results of this and other studies show they're clearly not ready for more complex gigs humans excel at. A big reason for this is that our current "artificial intelligence" is arguably still just an elaborate extension of your phone's predictive text, rather than a sentient intelligence that can solve problems, learn from past experience, and apply that experience to novel situations. This is all to say: the machines aren't coming for your job anytime soon — despite what the big tech companies claim.More on AI labor: Investor Says AI Is Already "Fully Replacing People"Share This Article0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 48 Ansichten

WWW.ARCHITECTURALDIGEST.COMThis Berlin Penthouse Uses Color to Create a Vibrant ImpactAll products featured on Architectural Digest are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links.Kreuzberg is known as one of the coolest contemporary neighborhoods—making it a fitting host for a recent ambitious Berlin penthouse project from Studio Bosko. Their design for a 1,539-square-foot space required its complete transformation to accommodate the requests of its new residents, who moved from Amsterdam during the pandemic and contacted the studio after they found this unit. Studio Bosko, founded by architect Kasia Kronberger, was presented with a wish list starting with one item at the top: to create a multifunctional home with a palette that wasn’t limited to whites and pale pastels. They wanted a home that would feel like an invitation to creative freedom instead of a place that sets limits on one’s imagination. Their requests were inspired by two details from their lives: One half of the couple works as an illustrator and her partner has a form of color blindness that allows him to perceive only bright colors. This would lead the studio to a palette focused on basic and bold hues—yellow, green, red, and blue. Color provided a transformative element of the design and created a feeling of well-being for the home’s residents, allowing both of them to feel comfortable there. The bold colors give the penthouse personality and its own unique language. It is connected to the outdoors through large windows overlooking a terrace, flooding the interior with natural light and making its different spaces stand out even more. The studio’s approach included using different colors to define the different spaces of the penthouse. Yellow for the kitchen, red in the dining area, and the living area in green. For the bedroom and more private areas, the use of color is more nuanced, with wood and darker warm tones distinguishing the spaces intended for rest and relaxation. With Covid restrictions in place, the studio’s main challenge was to manage the unavoidable delays from suppliers and their impact on the project’s schedule. But the creative goal remained constant, “to achieve a smart balance between the different areas of the home and ensure that it’s comfortable in a timeless way,” says Kronberger. All decisions were made in consultation with the clients to create a home where they could unwind, relax, and spend time with friends and family, while also serving as a workspace when necessary. The vison was an apartment that feels sophisticated without being crowded while also being full of character.A black vintage Belgian chest of drawers with a brutalist design connects the kitchen to the dining room. The interior design also had to accommodate an important piece of art, a portrait of Frank Zappa by Coco Davez that is a cherished possession of the owners. They wanted to hang it in a prominent place and have it interact with the apartment’s other elements through its colors. It was placed in the middle of the living room, setting the tone for the home and taking center stage with its yellow contrasting with the space’s green elements. The studio then chose different vintage pieces and some design icons, such as Jean Prouvé’s chairs for Vitra in the dining room and lamps by Marset; all the furniture and materials are in harmony with the colors of each different space.A masterful balance of old and new, classic and quirky is found everywhere in the apartment, and the final design’s interior decoration, architecture, use of natural light, and those vibrant bursts of color add up to a space that is both practical and attractive. And, at the same time, it perfectly reflects the personality of its owners. This Berlin penthouse was originally published by AD Spain.1/11The color green was used to define the most social space in the house, the living area with its large windows, designer light fixtures, and furniture which includes many pieces in wood.2/11The Camaleonda corner sofa continues the green theme of the living area with its pine green alpaca mohair upholstery.3/11The Carmiate chairs by Vico Magistretti were upholstered with Tiger Mountain silk by Dedar.4/11The living-room bookcase is custom and designed both for storing books as well as vinyl records. It doubles as a sideboard for the dining room with a minibar and space for a coffee maker.5/11Two Bohemia pendant lamps by Marset and Vitra Standard chairs designed by Jean Prouvé are the main elements in the dining room, creating an atmosphere that is warm and full of personality.6/11The Dipping Light from Marset is one of the home’s signature design pieces and it complements the home’s color palette.7/11The kitchen has been designed in a mostly yellow palette, from the handcrafted tiles to the custom wooden furniture.8/11The owners are enthusiastic amateur chefs so the studio created a kitchen that is functional and practical without compromising on design.9/11Oak is the dominant material in the bedroom, creating a more intimate and sober space in contrast to the bright colors of the rest of the home.10/11The wallpaper above the bed and darker tones define the bedroom, providing a contrast to the vibrant palette of the rest of the home and contributing to a feeling of rest and relaxation.11/11The bathroom is the darkest though arguably one of the most interesting areas of the penthouse, with its dark green tiles that contrast with the rest of the home and give the room a more traditional look.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 30 Ansichten

WWW.TECHSPOT.COMUK bans gaming controller exports to Russia to hinder military useWhat just happened? Three years after Russia invaded Ukraine, the UK has joined the European Union in a new round of sanctions targeting technology exports. The latest measures include restrictions on video game controllers and other consumer electronics, with officials stating their goal is to degrade Russia's military capabilities. While the Pentagon now uses custom-built controllers to operate its systems, Russia continues to rely on off-the-shelf video game controllers manufactured in the West. Authorities in the UK aim to block exports of these devices after reports revealed that Russian forces have repurposed them to control drones in Ukraine air strikes. The controller ban is part of 150 new trade sanctions imposed by the UK, which is now aligning with the EU's earlier strategy. Foreign Office Minister Stephen Doughty says Russia has exploited British consumer markets for too long by purchasing seemingly harmless gaming products and repurposing them for military use. "Video game consoles will no longer be exploited to kill people in Ukraine," he said. Officials in London say the new measures aim to clamp down on Russia's efforts to circumvent trade restrictions and acquire equipment for its military. Doughty confirmed that gaming controllers are part of a broader package of export bans designed to weaken Russia's armed forces. Other banned products include software for identifying new fuel sources such as oil and gas. The sanctions also cover exports of chemicals, electronics, metals, machinery, and software tools linked to the energy and defense sectors. Doughty said these technologies could contribute to Russia's weapons production. The UK announced the new sanctions following one of Russia's deadliest strikes on Kyiv in recent weeks. On Thursday, Russian forces launched a barrage of "dumb" missiles and 215 drones overnight, killing nine people and injuring dozens more. Russia claimed the attack targeted Ukraine's military facilities. // Related Stories After the attack, UK Foreign Minister David Lammy condemned Russia for targeting Ukrainians while Kyiv officials were in London to discuss a potential peace treaty. Even President Donald Trump, who previously expressed trust in Vladimir Putin's word regarding Ukraine's invasion, called on the Russian leader to "stop" killing civilians once and for all.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 39 Ansichten
