This Ember Smart Mug Keeps Me Caffeinated, and Its 27% Off After Cyber Monday
We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.I love iced coffee, but I loathe cold coffee. Intentionally iced coffee is perfection, while hot coffee that's gone cold is disgusting. You can, of course, microwave coffee to return it to a drinkable temperature, and I havemany times. But a sad mug of microwaved coffee is no replacement for sipping a freshly brewed cup as close to its original temperature as possible, and that's always going to be a losing race against time. Enter Ember, and its "smart mug." Unlike your dumb mug, Ember's cup can keep your drink at a stable temperature of your choosing, ranging between 120F and 145F. You set the temperature in the Ember app, pour yourself a cup of joe, and sip at your own leisure: Every time you take a drink, your coffee, tea, hot chocolate, what have you, will be the same temperature as the first sip. Even after Cyber Monday, Amazon still has the 14 oz mug on sale for up to 27% offas long as you're okay with getting it in black. The 10 oz mug is on sale in a number of colors, though, including 21% off in copper and gold, 23% off in red, and 27% off in stainless steel and rose gold. Click through the various colors and sizes to see if you can find a match that works for you. Ember Smart Mug (14 oz) $109.99 at Amazon $149.95 Save $39.96 Get Deal Get Deal $109.99 at Amazon $149.95 Save $39.96 I have been using an Ember mug for a while now, and it really is greatif not slightly surreal. It's an odd thing to pick up a mug of coffee that's been sitting around for half an hour, take a sip, and find it as steamy as when I first poured it. As odd as it sounds, this means it comes with a bit of a learning curve, at least if, like me, you are used to taking larger and larger sips of your coffee the longer it has been sitting around. Don't throw back a cup from your Ember, is what I'm saying. It'll be a bad time. A piping hot cup for over an hourEmber will eventually stop keeping your drink hot when the battery runs out. When new and fully charged, that's a generous 80 minutes, which is a long time to enjoy any single 14 oz beverage. However, if you tend to drink multiple cups a day, that battery will wear out before you've finished your afternoon spreadsheets, so I recommend storing the wireless charging dock wherever you're most likely to be drinking from the Ember mugperhaps your desk, or on an end table. That way, you can place your mug on the charger instead of a coaster, and keep the battery constantly juiced. Don't let your brew burnThe Ember mug isn't perfect. My one gripe is with how it handles the last sip or two of your beverage. It seems the heating element is so strong, it burns, or at least alters the taste of, any too-small amount of liquid. My advice is to finish the cup before it gets to this point, keep your temperature set lower, or turn off the heater via the app when you get about three-quarters of the way through it.A critical note: Do not put your Ember mug in the dishwasher. This mug is hand-wash only. It's safe to scrub it in the sink, and even submerge it in water up to one meter. However, the abrasive nature of your dishwasher's jets will be too much for both the outside coating and the electronics inside the mug. It's a little extra work to hand wash it after each use, but you'll have plenty of energy thanks to having downed that never-cooling cup of coffee. My Favorite Coffee Maker Is Up to 30% Off After Cyber Monday
We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication. The Moccamaster Technivorm is one of a million post-Cyber Monday sales. If you're interested in the best tech on sale today, see our page on the best Cyber Monday tech deals that are still active for a broader view of all the best discounts you can get right now. Prices are accurate as of the time of writing, but you can expect them to fluctuate and inventory to sell out, so you may not want to hesitate if you see a sale that grabs you.For the longest time, I was a Keurig guy and was happy with it. I'd load up a K-Cup into my single serve machine, and two minutes later, my morning was saved. There were two problems I had with my Keurig, though: One, I did hate the daily waste of the K-Cups, even with "recyclable" ones hitting the scene a few years back. And two, using the machine was a bit of a pain when trying to make more than one cup at once. It'd be nice to fill a travel mug, for example, but one cup wasn't enough and two cups would risk overflowing. And if we had multiple guests over who wanted a cup of coffee, they'd have to wait their turn as my machine brew exactly one serving at a time. So I started to eye a more traditional coffee makersomething that would use one paper filter to make an entire pot of coffeeand if I had guests over or wanted to fill my travel mug, it'd be no problem. While I'd probably be satisfied with a standard coffee maker, I was turned on to the Moccamaster Technivorm, and I never had a chance of looking elsewhere. This thing has it all: It's stylish, it makes 40 ounces of coffee at once, and supposedly optimizes the speed at which the coffee brews to extract the coffee's "full flavor" and maximize its "complexity, taste, and aroma." I have no scientific or expert background when it comes to my coffee "extraction," I just like a good cup, and this thing makes a pot of good coffee every time. (This YouTube review does a good job of explaining the machine in greater depth.) Moccamaster Technivorm $250.13 at Amazon $359.00 Save $108.87 Get Deal Get Deal $250.13 at Amazon $359.00 Save $108.87 As for actually brewing your coffee, I frequent Moccamaster's advice quite often, which is posted online (although it should also come with your machine in paper form). It has the suggested ratio of water to ground coffee for any amount of coffee you're looking to make (I tend to brew a liter at a time, which equates to six scoops of Moccamaster's two tablespoon scoop, or 55ounces), as well as advice on what to do if the strength is off: If your coffee is too strong, Moccamaster recommends you add hot water. But if it's too weak, Moccamaster doesn't recommend adding more grounds: Instead, it advises "exploring different coffee varieties or roast profiles to find one more suited to your taste." To me, that sounds like a very polite version of "your coffee's trash, dude."From a novice's perspective, everything about this Moccamaster machine is amazingexcept the price. The thing retails for $359, which is, the last time I checked, expensive. That's why, when I saw the Technivorm was on sale, I had to write about it. Unfortunately, the deal is already fluctuating. Originally, Amazon had this machine at half price for Black Friday. But since then, that sale has ended. But many colors are still on sale for 30% off. As of writing, that includes Apricot, Black, Orange, Butter Yellow, Candy Apple Red, Pink, Stone Grey, and Yellow Pepper. Rose Gold has a smaller sale, currently priced at $319.95. I'd recommend clicking through the various colors before you buy to see if the deal has shifted at all since this article. MSIs new Claw gaming handhelds have Lunar Lake processors and nondescript AI powers
MSI has two new versions of the MSI Claw after the original landed with a thud earlier this year. The companys $900 MSI Claw 8 AI+ and $800 Claw 7 AI+ have Lunar Lake Intel processing, better battery life and quality-of-life improvements like redesigned sticks, bumpers and triggers. The previous model launched a touch late and a bit too pricey, according to Engadgets Sam Rutherford in our review. He said its performance was underwhelming compared to cheaper rivals, its software was too clunky, and it was plagued by an overabundance of optimization updates (presumably because MSI scrambled to fix its long list of problems). We havent handled the new models, but their switch to Intels latest Core Ultra 7 processor should lead to better performance and lower power consumption two of the biggest marks against the A1M. The Claw 8 AI+ has an 8-inch (1,920 x 1,200) display, and the Claw 7 AI+ has a 7-inch (1,920 x 1,080) one. Both devices support a 120Hz refresh rate. However, theyre LCD panels; you still wont find an OLED option here, like in Valve and Lenovos alternatives. It... floats, too? MSI The Claw 8 has an 80Wh battery, while the 7-inch model has a 54.5Wh battery. It uses MSIs Cooler Boost HyperFlow tech, which includes dual fans and heat pipes. The company claims it outperforms competitors (without stating which) when running at a power-efficient 17W. Each handheld has a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports, so you could plug the handheld into a monitor and use it as a makeshift Windows PC. They even have CoPilot+ support built-in. MSI redesigned the new generations joysticks, bumpers, D-pad and triggers for this generation. Although the last model had Hall effect sticks, the new ones also have it in their triggers. Ergonomics were a rare highlight in the previous model, and MSI touts the new handhelds as being tailored to fit the natural contours of the hand. As for the AI in the handhelds branding, MSI presumably refers to the XeSS upscaling tech in the Intel chip. However, the previous model also used XeSS, so maybe the company just wanted to scream to customers and investors that it uses AI. The new handhelds arrive on December 25. GameRant notes that their pre-order pages are listed without available stock (yet). Regardless, once you can buy them, the Claw 7 AI+ costs $800, and the Claw 8 AI+ will set you back $900. Meta wants to use nuclear power for its data centers
Meta has confirmed its plans to use nuclear power to fuel US data centers. The company announced that its accepting proposals from nuclear energy developers to work on the project, with the goal of adding between one and four gigawatts of nuclear energy capacity starting in the early 2030s.The companys request for proposals states that Meta is seeking partners that have experience with either Small Modular Reactors (SMR) or larger nuclear reactors. Axios reports that the company is geographically agnostic about the location of potential nuclear sites. The company previously had plans to build a nuclear-powered data center, The Financial Times reported earlier this year, but the plans were scuttled after the discovery of a rare species of bees near the site.As new innovations bring impactful technological advancements across sectors and support economic growth, we believe that nuclear energy can help provide firm, baseload power to support the growth needs of the electric grids that power both our data centers (the physical infrastructure on which Metas platforms operate) as well as the communities around them, the company wrote in a statement.Meta isnt the only major tech company looking to nuclear power to help power its AI ambitions. Google recently announced a deal to build multiple reactors in the US, with the goal of adding 500 megawatts of nuclear power from SMRs. Microsoft also said this year it wants to revive the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania to fuel its AI development. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/big-tech/meta-wants-to-use-nuclear-power-for-its-data-centers-225051671.html?src=rss
