I'm currently working on something that is somewhat related to what you're talking about. When the game starts and units start pilling up in both bases one player makes the assumption that the other's player unit are in his base (and that's where the hipotetical or ghost units are placed) . When the first player starts exploring the map and the other player's unit position doesn't check out the hipotetical units need to be moved somewhere out of sight. The leaves need to be blown somewhere el

  • The Best Way to Clean a Microwave
    lifehacker.com
Your microwave gets super dirty, but it can be easy to ignore; you can shut the door when you're not using it, thus hiding all the grease, splatter, and crumbs left in there. That said, out of sight might be out of mind, but it doesn't translate to being out of the woods. Food and grime can attract pests and/or make your microwave (and food) smelly and gross. It's time to clean your microwave. Here's how. Step one: Steam your microwaveTo start, you should steam the inside of your microwave. That bad boy has all kinds of splatter caked and crusted on the interior and steam is going to loosen it up. Steam is a powerful tool for cleaning, as is citric acid, so this one is a no-brainer. Around the internet and CleanTok, you'll find suggestions ranging from doing this with a half cup of water to a full cup, a half lemon to a whole one, and for three minutes to five minutes, with five minutes or 15 minutes left over for the steaming. That can all get complicated and annoying, which I discovered today. Due to a recent incident in my microwave, mine was looking exceptionally bad inside. Here's the lemon-infused protocol I followed to get the ball rolling:I cut a lemon into quarters and put two of them in a microwave-safe mug with one cup of water. (You can also use a bowl but I had a mug handy.) I microwaved on high for three minutes, checking to see if steam was forming toward the end. If you don't see any steam, give it another minute (my steam is visible on the cupboard above the microwave, which is how I knew it was working).I let it sit with the door closed for five minutes. When you open the microwave, you should see that what was once crusted onto the walls and ceiling of the machine is now kind of soggy and should be easy to wipe up with a sponge. I used a Clorox wipe to remove mine, just for added disinfecting power. Plus, it always smells nice and lemony. Be warned that this may take a few rounds: In the past, I've noticed the crust and splatter near the top was much easier to remove than anything on the bottom, since the steam travels up, but on my most recent attempt, it was the gunk at the bottom that came off easier after one round of steaming. Oh, and if your turntable is removable, take it out and soak it in warm water while you wipe out the interior, then scrub it with a sponge. You can see in the image at the top how much success I had just from one round of lemon-steaming and a wipe-down.Step two: Clean the exterior of the microwaveThe way you clean the exterior of your microwave depends on what's stuck on there. If it's greasy, use a mixture of one part vinegar and one part water to gently scrub. If it's splattered but not greasy, try a mix of one part rubbing alcohol and one part water. You can also use a damp sponge dipped in baking soda for heavier-duty messes, but be sure to follow that up with plain water. I do this part in multiple steps. First, I use the mixture of rubbing alcohol and water to remove any easy stains or residue, then reevaluate to determine if anything left over is stuck on. Using a soft cloth, I buff some baking soda over that (which is streaky and messy) and then use plain water to remove it. If there are still streaks, then I go in with my vinegar and water, which is a streak-killing combo. You don't need specialty products beyond what you have around the house already to get the inside and outside of your microwave gleaming, but you do need the know-how and a bit of time.

  • Meta admits it deleted links to decentralized Instagram competitor Pixelfed
    www.engadget.com
Meta appeared to be blocking links to Pixelfed, a decentralized photo-sharing platform, on Facebook, according to both users on Bluesky and 404 Media. Any post that linked to "pixelfed.social" was deleted, with Facebook's "Community Standards on spam" used as a justification. When asked to comment, a Meta spokesperson said removing the posts was a mistake and that they'd be reinstated.Pixelfed runs on the ActivityPub protocol and is part of the wider "fediverse" of decentralized posting platforms. It functions a lot like Instagram in its ability to let you share, like, and comment on images, but because its on ActivityPub, your posts could show up in other apps or be ported to entirely different takes on photo sharing if you want. Meta is slowly adopting parts of ActivityPub into Threads, which makes it possible to post to Threads and Mastodon at the same time, for example. The timing of these deletions is enough to make anyone suspicious. Meta just announced pretty dramatic changes to how it plans to moderate speech on its platforms. The company decided to end both its third-party fact checking program and change its Hateful Conduct policy last week. The company's loosening standards now allow for speech that would be defined as hateful under any normal circumstance, based on what Wired was able to dig up.It's not unreasonable to imagine users might consider jumping ship to an alternative like Pixelfed in response, and the platform did share on Saturday that it was "seeing unprecedented levels of traffic to pixelfed.social." It's also not unreasonable to imagine the new right-leaning Meta might preemptively block its competitors, just like X did with links to Mastodon and Substack. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/social-media/meta-admits-it-deleted-links-to-decentralized-instagram-competitor-pixelfed-194624098.html?src=rss

  • How U.S. AI chip export curbs threaten Nvidias revenue
    www.fastcompany.com
Nvidia faces a significant revenue threat due to the latest U.S. export restrictions on artificial intelligence chips, designed to limit the global distribution of these coveted processors, analysts and investors said on Monday. The regulations, among the strongest yet from the Biden administration, limit AI chip exports to most countries except for a select group of close U.S. allies. They also maintain a block on exports to some countries, including China, as the U.S. tries to close regulatory loopholes and prevent Beijing from acquiring advanced chips that could bolster its military capabilities.Surging demand for AI chips has catapulted Nvidia into the ranks of the worlds most valuable firms, with a market value exceeding $3 trillion. However, the new restrictions may complicate its ability to deliver the robust revenue growth that investors expect. These rules will significantly limit (Nvidias) market since as much as half its chips currently end up in countries that will be off-limits once the rules are applied, said D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria.Company filings show that Nvidia gets about 56% of its revenue from customers outside the U.S., with China making up about 17% of sales. Shares of the Santa Clara, California-based company were down around 2%.The export curb threatens to derail innovation and economic growth worldwide and would undermine Americas leadership, Nvidia Vice President of Government Affairs Ned Finkle said.Finkle argued Americas leading role in AI would be hurt because the rule would impose bureaucratic control over how Americas leading semiconductors, computers, systems, and even software are designed and marketed globally. The rules were also criticized by others including the Semiconductor Industry Association, a lobbying group which said the move would force U.S. firms to cede market share to rivals.By limiting access to large quantities of advanced processors, the U.S. is effectively showing the world whos the boss. However, in doing so, it also threatens to crimp the earnings potential for many American firms such as Nvidia, said Dan Coatsworth, investment analyst at AJ Bell.Analysts have been raising earnings estimates for Nvidia, outpacing its soaring share price growth. The forward price-to-earnings ratio is now about 31, compared to highs of over 80 in June 2023.Big cloud providers likely winnersUnder the new rules, major cloud providers such as Microsoft, Alphabet-owned Google and Amazon.com can apply for approval to bypass licensing requirements for AI chips, allowing them to establish data centers in countries affected by U.S. chip import restrictions. As a result, these companies, already established as AI heavyweights, are likely to increase their market share, according to analysts. We have long viewed these companies as the gatekeepers of AI, anyway, given their financial ability to continually invest in next-gen large language models and massive installed bases, said CFRA Research analyst Angelo Zino. The companies that have access to the most advanced chips (in this case, the big cloud providers) will have an advantage.Still, there are uncertainties surrounding the new rules because they are set to take effect 120 days from publication, giving the incoming Trump administration time to weigh in.While the two administrations share similar views on Chinas competitive threat, several analysts believe that President-elect Donald Trump would be more willing to negotiate deals with individual companies and countries. He (Trump) might tinker with the list of allies on the exemption list, but overall, the move is in step with Trumps way of thinking, Coatsworth said.Chris Sanders and Karen Freifeld, Reuters
