Polish mobile developer and publisher Huuuge Games is laying off 29 percent of its global workforce.The company confirmed the news in a note to investors last week and said it wants to "streamline operations" and focus on its core social casino business.The layoffs will impact 122 workers company-wide, including 89 employees based in Poland (representing 25 percent of staff in the region)."The workforce reduction is expected to be completed by the end of February 2025 and will not negatively impact the company's revenue," added Huuuge.Huuuge is the free-to-play specialist behind titles including Stars Slots, Billionaire Casino, and Dominos Party. The company explained the redundancies are designed to "improve agility" while reducing costs.With that goal in mind, Huuuge will also be shuttering its 'Huuuge Pods' (a cluster of small internal teams formed in 2023) across the Netherlands and Finland and discontinuing new game development.Huuuge said it remains profitable with $125 million in cash reserves as of Q3 2024. Video quality maxes out at 720p, the output is watermarked, and the apps interface will occasionally be cluttered with ads but those arent presented to viewers. For $17.99 per month (which is over $215 per year) output quality gets a bump to 1080p, while ads and the watermark are removed. As Monster Hunter Wilds' February 28 release date nears, developer Capcom has said it's looking into lowering the recommended GPU requirements.Confirmation comes from the official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account, which issued a follow-up statement that revealed Capcom is also exploring the possibility of releasing a standalone PC benchmarking tool.Capcom recommends an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT for 30 FPS at 1080p. This minimum requirement is also detailed as requiring an internal resolution of 720p, and upscaling the graphics using DLSS or FSR using the lowest graphics setting.Monster Hunter Wilds recommended settings also target 1080p and 60 FPS with upscaling and Frame Generation technologies enabled, using the examples of an RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT. Out of the three, only the RTX 4060 supports Nvidia Frame Generation, with the 2070 Super and 6700 XT instead having to rely on FSR 3 (which had ghosting artifacts in the previous Monster Hunter Wilds beta).Targeting 60 FPS with Frame Generation enabled isnt the ideal use of the technology, with Digital Foundry recommending a baseline of 40 FPS in third-person titles. If a game runs at under 60 FPS with upscaling enabled, it may result in a much less responsive or tactile feeling due to latency.During the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta test, PC players with lower-end hardware struggled, even with mid-range graphics cards like the RTX 3060. In particular, players experienced a low-LOD bug where the game did not load the fully detailed textures of characters or monsters. Monster Hunter Wilds is built on the RE Engine, which first debuted in 2017s Resident Evil 7. The engine was used in games like Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise, and Street Fighter 6, with slick performance across all platforms.But, all that glitters is not gold for the RE Engine, as bigger open-world titles with more NPCs and enemies like Dragons Dogma 2 have suffered from performance woes on consoles and PC, setting a worrying portent for Monster Hunter Wilds. Apple is facing criminal complaints by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which accuses the company of illegally using conflict minerals, also known as blood minerals. The terms refer to minerals sourced from illegal sources who employ child labor and use the proceeds to buy weapons for armed conflicts.The charges have been filed in Belgium and France because those countries have a strong judicial record in corporate accountability cases. The term 3TG is used to encompass all four of the metals.Apple does not directly purchase minerals; these are bought further down the supply chain, by companies using them to manufacture components later sold to the iPhone maker. However, the company does commission audits intended to ensure that its supply-chain is free from the problem.Back in 2019, for example, Apple instructed its suppliers toexclude five smelters and refinerswho failed to pass this audit. The company said it had no concerns about the remaining companies.Evidence sent to Tim Cook in AprilInternational lawyers representing the government of the DRC say that they passed evidence to Apple earlier this year, showing that the companys supply chain could still include conflict minerals.Congos lawyers notified Apple CEO Tim Cook on April 22 of a series of concerns about its supply chain, and also wrote to Apple subsidiaries in France, demanding answers within three weeks. The Amsterdam & Partners LLP law firm has been investigating allegations that minerals mined in Congo by several companies and armed groups are being smuggled out through Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi.The Cupertino company did not comment publicly on this at the time, but last year told the US Securities and Exchange Commission that none of the smelters or refiners in its 3TG supply chain used conflict minerals.Criminal complaints now filedReuters reports that the DRC has now filed criminal complaints in both France and Belgium.International lawyers representing Congo argue that Apple uses minerals pillaged from Congo and laundered through international supply chains, which they say renders the firm complicit in crimes taking place in Congo.In parallel complaints filed to the Paris prosecutors office and to a Belgian investigating magistrates office on Monday, Congo accuses local subsidiaries Apple France, Apple Retail France and Apple Retail Belgium of a range of offences.These include covering up war crimes and the laundering of tainted minerals, handling stolen goods, and carrying out deceptive commercial practices to assure consumers supply chains are clean.Courts in both countries will now assess the evidence and decide whether criminal charges are warranted.Belgium has opened an investigationCongo told the Financial Times that Belgian prosecutors have now opened an investigation.Lawyers acting for DRC said prosecutors in Belgium had last week appointed an investigative judge who oversees the investigation and is in charge of issuing arrest warrants, wiretaps and raids to probe the case. Jan 20, 2025Ravie LakshmananNetwork Security / VulnerabilityNew research has uncovered security vulnerabilities in multiple tunneling protocols that could allow attackers to perform a wide range of attacks."Internet hosts that accept tunneling packets without verifying the sender's identity can be hijacked to perform anonymous attacks and provide access to their networks," Top10VPN said in a study, as part of a collaboration with KU Leuven professor and researcher Mathy Vanhoef.As many as 4.2 million hosts have been found susceptible to the attacks, including VPN servers, ISP home routers, core internet routers, mobile network gateways, and content delivery network (CDN) nodes. China, France, Japan, the U.S., and Brazil top the list of the most affected countries.Successful exploitation of the shortcomings could permit an adversary to abuse a susceptible system as one-way proxies, as well as conduct denial-of-service (DoS) attacks."An adversary can abuse these security vulnerabilities to create one-way proxies and spoof source IPv4/6 addresses," the CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) said in an advisory. "Vulnerable systems may also allow access to an organization's private network or be abused to perform DDoS attacks."The vulnerabilities are rooted in the fact that the tunneling protocols such as IP6IP6, GRE6, 4in6, and 6in4, which are mainly used to facilitate data transfers between two disconnected networks, do not authenticate and encrypt traffic without adequate security protocols like Internet Protocol Security (IPsec).The absence of additional security guardrails opens the door to a scenario where an attacker can inject malicious traffic into a tunnel, a variation of a flaw that was previously flagged in 2020 (CVE-2020-10136).They have been assigned the following CVE identifiers for the protocols in question -CVE-2024-7595 (GRE and GRE6)CVE-2024-7596 (Generic UDP Encapsulation)CVE-2025-23018 (IPv4-in-IPv6 and IPv6-in-IPv6)CVE-2025-23019 (IPv6-in-IPv4)"An attacker simply needs to send a packet encapsulated using one of the affected protocols with two IP headers," Top10VPN's Simon Migliano explained."The outer header contains the attacker's source IP with the vulnerable host's IP as the destination. The inner header's source IP is that of the vulnerable host IP rather than the attacker. The destination IP is that of the target of the anonymous attack."Thus when the vulnerable host receives the malicious packet, it automatically strips the outer IP address header and forwards the inner packet to its destination. Given that the source IP address on the inner packet is that of the vulnerable but trusted host, it's able to get past network filters.As defenses, it's recommended to use IPSec or WireGuard to provide authentication and encryption, and only accept tunneling packets from trusted sources. At the network level, it's also advised to implement traffic filtering on routers and middleboxes, carry out Deep packet inspection (DPI), and block all unencrypted tunneling packets."The impact on victims of these DoS attacks can include network congestion, service disruption as resources are consumed by the traffic overload, and crashing of overloaded network devices," Migliano said. It was revealed this week that Burger King plans to shutter 400 locations while upgrading others as part of a massive overhaul for the brand.READ MORE: Big-Name Restaurants and Chain Stores Closing Locations in 2025For one city, Burger King was never an option in the first place thanks to a judge that ruled the restaurant isnt allowed.According to Chicagos CBS News affiliate, Burger King isnt allowed within a 20 mile radius of Mattoon, Illinois.Why Is Burger King Banned In Illinois?Mattoon is a city of approximately 16,000 people located in east central Illinois.According to the CBS affiliate, Gene and Betty Hoots opened their own restaurant called Burger King in the cityin 1957, four years before the chain would ever set foot anywhere in Illinois. The Hoots family already had an ice cream joint called Frigid Queen, so it only made sense to also add a King to their growing empire.Everything was fairly chill between the two sides until 1968. Thats when CBS says the Hoots filed a lawsuit against the Burger King fast food chain. The couple held the trademark to the Burger King name and wanted to stand their ground.While the Hoots ultimately won the case, it really wasnt a total win. Classic Chicago Magazine explained the ruling as the Burger King chain getting to keep the name only if they stayed outside a 20-mile radius around the Hoots version of Burger King.Original Burger King in Mattoon, IllinoisGoogle Maps photoloading...The ruling is still good today with the closest Burger King location about 25 miles north of Mattoon.
