  • Elaborate Sonic Run VFX on Simple Geometry Made in Blender

If you look at the upper part of Justin Wallaces latest VFX study, you might think that this effect of Sonics signature run animation is extremely complicated, and while it might be true for the image itself, the geometry behind it is surprisingly simple and static. As you can see in the video, the VFX is put on a stationary cone with some shapes behind it that represent the movements tail. The dynamics of the animation are achieved through clever lines and camera shaking a really neat technique. If you want to see Shadow The Hedgehog in Wallaces hand and other fantastic works, visit his ArtStation and dont forget to check out our interview, where he talked about his beautiful stylized house, explaining surface and object tiling and demonstrating the work on materials and shaders. You can also find some cool Sonic art on our pages, including its classic physics recreated in Godot, a Looney Tunes-like animation, and a detailed rig.Join our 80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Elaborate Sonic Run VFX on Simple Geometry Made in Blender appeared first on CG SHARES.

  • Every Upcoming Superhero Game To Look Out For In 2025 And Beyond
    www.gamespot.com
Superhero games make for some of the best interactive entertainment around, as they provide the ideal form of escapism: all of the great power, and none of the great responsibility to use it wisely. The last couple of years have seen some terrific entries in this genre, from Eidos Interactives Guardians of the Galaxy to Insomniac's successful reimagining of Spider-Man, and there's a lot more to look forward to in the future.Several games based on characters from Marvel, DC, and other comic book publishers are in development at several studios--from Iron Man to Wonder Woman-- and here's a closer look at the projects headed to PC and console in the near-future. Marvel's Blade (Arkane Lyon)Blade's no stranger to video games--the Wesley Snipes incarnation had two movie tie-in games and he's appeared in various other big Marvel games over the years. But the idea of a new solo title with Deathloop studio Arkane Lyon leading the way sounds like a match made in heaven. This time, Blade's adventure takes him to the streets of Paris, a city under siege by vampires and in dire need of the Daywalker's lethal talents for dealing with the undead pain-in-the-neck menace. While it's still early in development, Arkane has described this project as a narrative-driven third-person action game and has shared some concept art for the game. Marvel's Iron Man (EA Motive)Not much is known about EA's take on everybody's favorite genius billionaire playboy philanthropist Iron Man, as the game is still early in pre-production, but EA Motive has said that it wants to get this project right. The Dead Space studio has a legion of Iron Man fans to consult on this project, hiring is ramping up, and the game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Marvel's Wolverine (Insomniac)After three games spent spinning webs, dealing with pesky symbiotes, and suffering regular insults from J. Jonah Jameson, Insomniac's next project is focused on Canada's finest export, Wolverine. Beyond a CG teaser trailer--and a terrible attack by hackers looking for a big payday--details on this Wolverine game are slim for now. What we do know is that Insomniac doesn't plan to temper the dark nature of Marvel's not-so-merry mutant, as this game will have a mature tone and likely plenty of blood to spill whenever Logan pops his trademark Adamantium claws. Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra (Skydance Media)The next game from Uncharted director Amy Hennig and Skydance Media, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will feature more than just Wakanda's defender and the first Avenger in action. The debut trailer teased Gabriel Jones, who is a US soldier, and Nanali, who is the founder of the Wakandan Spy Network, as two more playable characters in the ensemble cast for the game. Gameplay has yet to be revealed, but Skydance Media did show off some of the game's very impressive visuals at the Game Developers Conference during the State of Unreal presentation. While Captain America is still a rookie star-spangled hero, this incarnation of Black Panther is Wakandan King Azzuri, the grandfather of T'Challa, and the forces of Hydra are sweeping through Europe. The storyline will draw inspiration from the 2010 "Flags of Our Fathers" comic book arc and Hennig added the game is being structured somewhat similarly to a "binge-able serialized adventure" for fans to enjoy. Black Panther (Cliffhanger Games)Not content to just bring Marvel's armored Avenger to life, EA also has a team focused on a trip to Wakanda with its Black Panther video game. Development is being led by Cliffhanger Games--a new studio at EA led by Middle-earth veteran Kevin Stephens--and EA says that it's aiming to deliver a "definitive and authentic Black Panther experience" set within the fictional and technologically advanced African nation. Mystery Marvel game (EA)Details on the third mystery Marvel game at EA are locked up tighter than Wolverine's liquor cabinet when he's out of town, but EA has confirmed that it will be an original story-driven game set in the Marvel universe, just like its Black Panther and Iron Man projects. Which character will we see revealed eventually? Modern Marvel games typically focus on its biggest blockbuster icons, and it doesn't look like the Hulk, Captain Marvel, or Ant-Man are up to anything right now. Who knows? It might be time to walk on the print side of that universe with Marvel's Daily Bugle Simulator. Wonder Woman (Monolith)First revealed at The Game Awards in 2021, Monolith has kept pretty quiet since then on its upcoming Wonder Woman game. The last bit of info on the game came in late 2023, as after internet sleuths claimed that it would be a live-service game, publisher Warner Bros. stepped in to confirm that Wonder Woman will be "a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open world."The good news here is that the rep mentioned that Monolith's Nemesis system--the gameplay system that allowed for unique antagonists to torment you in its Middle-earth games--will be featured in the Amazonian's solo game. The Wolf Among Us 2 (Telltale Games)While it's not a capes-and-tights adventure like the other entries above, The Wolf Among Us 2 still has its origins in comic books. Originally announced in 2017, The Wolf Among Us 2 has had a long--and reportedly troubled--development cycle as it has endured multiple delays and the closure of the original Telltale Games. The current incarnation of Telltale Games confirmed that development on The Wolf Among Us 2 is still ongoing, following rumors that the game was at risk of being shelved due to financial difficulties and internal pressure.

  • All of our guesses about Nintendo Switch 2s mysterious C button
    www.polygon.com
Last Thursday, Nintendo finally revealed the long-awaited successor to the Nintendo Switch the Nintendo Switch 2 following months of leaks and fervent rumors. As you can imagine, theres been a lot of speculation about Nintendos upcoming console, from hardware specs and pricing to suspected launch titles and comparisons to Valves Steam Deck. One question in particular has pundits and Nintendo fans especially perplexed: What the heck is up with that so-called C button on the Switch 2 Joy-Cons?We likely wont have any hard answers to any of these questions until the Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct scheduled for April. But that doesnt mean we cant speculate! We put our heads together and came up with a list of what we think the button is for and what we hope the button is for. There are no wrong answers er, or at least not until we get real answers in April so feel free to chime in in the comments on what you think the C button will do!ChatThis one is probably the most probable of the theories out there. As Polygon editor-in-chief Christopher Plante previously speculated, the C button is rumored to open an in-game text or video chat system that allows Nintendo Switch 2 owners to communicate freely with one another and make the process of joining multiplayer games easier. It would be a welcome improvement on the original Switch, as well as offering the opportunity for a playful new UI experience.ColumboEvery once in a while, we could all use some help. Who better to offer that helping hand and a word of advice than Lieutenant Columbo, the shrewd and zen-like detective immortalized through the late, great Peter Falk? If you press the Columbo button, youll be treated to one of the detectives wry catchphrases and witty bon mots. If that doesnt sound like a quality-of-life feature, I dont know what does.AI assistantFor those asking, the new C button is used exclusively to access Nintendo Switch 2's exclusive AI assistant feature Paul Watson (@ghostlycola.com) 2025-01-16T14:51:45.544ZNowadays, it feels like everything and anything has an obligatory AI assistant. Your phone, your car, your blender you name it. So why shouldnt the Nintendo Switch 2 (other than that nobody asked for it)? Pressing the C button could possibly conjure up an AI assistant avatar modeled after one of Nintendos many iconic characters, offering helping in-game tips or shouting a catchphrase.Screen capture/screen sharing (click)A lot has changed in the world of gaming since the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017. One thing that could definitely do with a change is the way players share screenshots and videos of their favorite gaming moments with one another. Thats where the Switch 2s C button could come in. One of our leading theories is that the button could, in addition to a proprietary chat function, allow players to snap pictures or stream videos of their favorite in-game moments or interactions. What would this function be called? Why, click, of course!Coin noiseWho doesnt love the sound of collecting a coin in Super Mario Bros.? Dont you wish you had a button dedicated to delivering the sweet dopamine rush of that dulcet tone in whatever game youre playing, Mario or not? Well, thats what the C button might be for! Just keep pressing it to your hearts delight, whenever the occasion calls for it! Beat a really challenging boss? P-yoing! Got a super hard achievement? P-yoing! Feeling down? P-yoing!Foghorn noisePolygon deputy editor Matthew Reynolds has his own idea for what the C button is for:What if the new Switch 2 button is a foghorn. It just makes a really loud noise Matthew Reynolds (@mattreyn.games) 2025-01-16T14:56:42.437ZCriterion ChannelYou ever been playing an intense game of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and thought to yourself, Man, I really ought to watch Federico Fellinis 8? Relatable, am I right? Well, youll no longer have to choose to between looking at one screen or another for your choice of entertainment with the Nintendo Switch 2s dedicated Criterion Channel button. With a library of over 1,500 titles to choose from, the Criterion Channel could be the killer app of Nintendos latest console. You know what console doesnt have a dedicated Criterion Channel app? PlayStation 5. Checkmate, Sony.

  • The Gadhouse Duke & Roy Takes the Hassle Out of Turntable Shopping
    design-milk.com
Audiophiles know the hassle of buying gear. First you have to research and buy turntables, then think about amplifiers and speakers not to mention any add-ons like subwoofers and wireless features. Gadhouse, however, is taking the hassle out of buying midrange audio gear, with the new Gadhouse Duke & Roy Hi-Fi Stereo Turntable System perfect for buyers who want elevated audio, but dont want to go all out.Gadhouse has made waves for its high-end yet affordable turntables that blend retro design with modern features, like the Gadhouse Brad turntable, and the Duke & Roy system represents a bigger shift into the higher-end.The Duke turntable has a beautiful natural oak body, which helps give it a classy look that could fit anywhere and eschews the colorful look on offer by the companys other turntables. That oak body is coupled with black accents in the form of the platter, tonearm, and feet which only help accent the natural wood in a good way.The turntable, which is crafted from sustainably-sourced oak, offers a metal platter and a belt-drive system, along with a Ortofon 2N Red cartridge. It also has modern features like a Bluetooth transmitter and USB encoding. In other words, you dont have to do away with modern features just because you want a great looking turntable. But the Duke & Roy isnt just a turntable its a whole system. As you might have gathered by now, the Duke turntable is coupled with the Roy bookshelf speakers, which are designed to accompany the turntable. The Roy speakers are built for a warm and energetic audio, which is delivered through a 3.5-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter in each. Theyre perhaps not as unique as the oak turntable, but with their sleek and understated black design, they actually further highlight the turntable when placed next to it.The speakers connect directly to the turntable, but they actually have other inputs and outputs too, helping make them even more versatile. For example they have a sub out port and USB out port for connecting with a subwoofer, along with RCA, 3.5mm aux, and optical inputs. The speakers come with a remote control, making for easier control. The Gadhouse Duke & Roy Hi-Fi Turntable System is available for $990 at gadhouse.com.

  • Many Akai devices will soon support Native Instruments sound packs
    www.engadget.com
Akai and Native Instruments are sort of like the Nintendo and Sega of music production. These long-time rivals offer many similar products, but some musicians get drawn to Akais MPC workflow while others choose NIs Maschine platform. Soon, folks may not have to choose at all. These two icons of the space are teaming up. The MPC platform will soon be home to Native Instruments sound packs. This means that if you currently use an MPC Live II or a Key 61, or any other number of standalone music-making machines by Akai, youll be able to pull up legit Native Instruments sounds for your tracks. This is a truly big deal. The MPC workflow is iconic and many genres of music wouldnt be the same without it. At the same time, NI is known for its top-tier instruments and sounds.AkaiThis collaboration bridges two iconic brands to provide creators with a fully integrated ecosystem, said Matt Dircks, CEO of Native Instruments. By combining Akais legendary hardware with our expansive sound libraries and tools, were pushing the boundaries of music creation. We spoke to legendary instrument designer Roger Linn, who originally invented the MPC platform all the way back in 1988, about this partnership. Hes no longer with Akai in an official capacity but said that putting NI instruments on Akai products will "really benefit both companies." He also said that the move perfectly positions MPC devices "to be the next standard musical instrument like the guitar or piano."Linn, who also invented modern digital music-making concepts like swing and quantization, heaped praise on newer MPC devices, as the platform has come a long way since the MPC60 in 1988. He says that products like the Live II are "still warm and fuzzy for the people who are familiar with the MPC, while moving toward a DAW (digital audio workstation)." The Native Instruments integration promises to make these products even warmer and fuzzier. The only caveat? MPC devices can only access Play Series instruments and official Expansions, which are genre-specific sound packs. You wont be able to pull up, say, the full Massive X synthesizer or Kontakt. All told, there are five instruments that will be available in the middle of February, along with five Expansions. These have all been expertly tailored for the MPC platform. More releases are likely to follow, assuming positive user feedback. We asked Native Instruments CPO Simon Cross if there are plans for compatibility in the other direction. Will the Native Instruments Maschine+ standalone groovebox be able to pull up Akai plugins and sound packs? There are no current plans, which is something of a bummer. Its a bit understandable, given that the company only has one standalone device, but still.AkaiFinally, the partnership extends to MPK controllers. Akais line of MIDI controllers will soon integrate with Native Instruments Native Kontrol Standard (NKS). This means that Akai controllers will be able to seamlessly control all NKS-compatible plugins. The integration allows for pre-mapped controls and intuitive navigation directly from MPK devices. The software update drops at end of February. This expands controller compatibility to over 1,800 new instruments and plugins. The NKS standard is also coming to third-party controllers in the near future from companies like M-Audio, Novation and Korg, among others. To celebrate the burgeoning partnership, all current MPK Series owners will receive a free copy of Komplete 15 Select. This is a curated bundle of Native Instruments instruments and effects. Again, this is free for all MPK Series owners, and not just new purchasers. As for Linn, his company currently manufactures the ultra-expressive MIDI controller LinnStrument. The device tracks finger movements in five ways, to bring acoustic-like expressiveness to digital instruments. He also (relatively) recently co-designed one of my all-time favorite drum machines, the Tempest, along with MIDI and synthesizer luminary Dave Smith, who passed away in 2022.This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/music/many-akai-devices-will-soon-support-native-instruments-sound-packs-140059822.html?src=rss
