Project Files: https://www.patreon.com/posts/121698383 . In this episode of my third person shooter series, I am going to add fall damage into the character. So, I will implement a maximum threshold height where character can safely fall and land without taking any damage and above that height, character will take damage proportional to the fall height. This could be partial damage or instant death based on the falling height. • Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 Update Hammers Out Some Of The Bugs
    www.gamespot.com
Baldur's Gate 3 may be a work of art, but Patch 8 remains a work in progress. A select group of players were invited to take part in Larian Studios' stress test for Patch 8, which is still ongoing. However, Larian has already put together an update that addresses some of the bugs that have been uncovered in Patch 8.As laid out in a new post by Larian Studios, there don't appear to be any game-breaking bugs in Patch 8. But there are issues that have come up in several areas, including the newly added Photo Mode. Now, creatures will supposedly obey the "look at the camera" command, and dragonborn won't lose their tails in the pictures. Cross-play is another big addition of Patch 8, which is meant to connect players from consoles and PCs. This update only has a small number of fixes, but Larian notes that "we are still investigating instances of cross-play not working as intended." Other changes are meant to smooth out unintended effects, including an "issue causing the Flaming Fist armor to clip and generally freak out a bit."Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • Table for Two Encourages You to Pause to Enjoy the Romance of Food
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page.Welcome to Cookbook of the Week. This is a series where I highlight cookbooks that are unique, easy to use, or just special to me. While finding a particular recipe online serves a quick purpose, flipping through a truly excellent cookbook has a magic all its own.Casseroles, soups, cakes, pastas, and roastsmany cookbooks give us plenty of ideas to feed a family of four or a crowd of 12. I dont run across as many recipes made for only two people. As much as I appreciate leftovers, I feel tethered to those containers in my fridge, which is one of the reasons I chose to spotlight Table for Two this week. Yes, Valentines Day is around the corner, and that's the other reason: A lot of folks will be looking for inspiration when cooking for their special someone. But you don't need to be coupled up to enjoy this cookbook. It is an inviting book of recipes, with pared down measurements and top notch flavor, perfect for impressing any dining partner.A bit about the bookTable for Two is written by Bre Graham, and hit the shelves in 2023. At first glance, you might think it's a book filled with romantic date night dinnersthose are definitely in here, but theres a lot more to it. Graham makes it quite clear that there are many occasions and many types of relationships that bring two people together at the table. You might be cooking for a younger sibling, your mom, a friend youre reconnecting with, or for a weekly lunch with your cousin. These meals are special because they feed the heart as well as the stomach.Graham includes a few essays along with a slew of recipes, from entrees, to snacks and cheese boards, to cocktails and sweets. I enjoy the emphasis placed each meal as an experience. As someone who cooks on a deadline for my job, its easy for that get it done and clean it up mentality to seep into my regular life. Graham includes notes on Scene Setting and a section called Aperitivo Hour with suggested snack pairings that will remind you that there should be times when a meal feels like an occasion, not least when cooking for your mom. Actually, especially for your mom.A great cookbook for someone who needs to slow downThis is a good book for a person who cooks for, or with, one other person. But portions aside, it offers a reminder that the whole business of cookingrecipes, flavor combinations, pretty plating designscan be pleasurable. This is a good cookbook for the person in your life (maybe its you) who has trouble setting aside a moment for themselves. Someone whos been eating protein bars in the car or on the subway because thats the only chance they have to eat lunch. Keep your protein bars, but try to set up a table for two at least once a week. Its important to make space for the quiet and calm moments, and for the people you love. The recipes you can expectThe book is split into two sections, Easy to Impress and Just to Delight. The first section focuses on recipes that are beautiful but surprisingly easy to toss togethermeals that you can put together when youre tired or its getting late. The Just to Delight section is meant to be your resource for a sit-down dinner with the works. Both sections are similarly structured with recipes according to time of day, so you can find snacks and breakfast recipes earlier on in the segment, and flip to the back for fancy desserts and casual sweets. There are recipes throughout both sections that run the range between snacking-casual, like the Brown Sauce and Marmalade Bacon Sandwich, to candlelight-and-cloth-napkins, like the Gnudi in Toasted Lemon-Thyme Butter. This is all valuable stuff. A kitchen counter for two can host just as many special moments as a table. The dish I made this weekAs always, I had trouble choosing one recipe to spotlight. (The hazard of good cookbooks.) I settled on the Rainbow Chard, Polenta and Ricotta, and I wasnt disappointedif anything, developed an active case of food coma. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann The recipe is in the Easy to Impress section, and though it has a long-ish ingredient list, it really just came down to two components: cooking the chard and cooking the polenta. Easy indeed. The cookware was all stuff any typical kitchen might have (a big whisk or spoon, a large pot and a pan) and the polenta, cheese, and chard were all things I could easily source. For some recipes, Graham also includes a small section with substitutions; if chard isn't around then she recommends using frozen spinach, or even mushrooms. The finished meal was a full, hearty indulgence. I have never had such melty, cheese-pull-tastic polenta in my life. If you scattered some toasted walnuts or even thin candied orange peel over this dish, well, time might stop. The only questionable part is the amount of polenta: It uses nearly two cups of instant. While I have no qualms with instant polenta, it made enough for about six servingsway more than two, even if theyre two very hungry people. So I did end up with leftovers to enjoy tomorrow (certainly not the worst thing to happen to me this week). How to buy itThe hardcover of Table for Two is available online, or as an ebook. If youre gifting this book, get the hardcoverthe paper stock and cover texture offer subtle, tactile delights. As usual, I highly recommend supporting your local brick and mortar bookstores. Search their shelves for this cookbook or see if they can order it to their location. Table for Two: Recipes for the Ones You Love $1.99 at Amazon Shop Now Shop Now $1.99 at Amazon

  • The best VR headsets for 2025
    www.engadget.com
Virtual reality has come a long way, and VR headsets are now more exciting and accessible than ever. These devices transport you to entirely new worlds, whether youre slaying dragons in VR gaming, exploring distant planets or even attending virtual meetings. Theyre designed to immerse you in lifelike visuals and interactive experiences, making them perfect for gamers, tech enthusiasts and even people looking for creative new ways to stay connected.Theres a wide variety of options to suit every need. Standalone headsets like the Meta Quest 3s dont require a powerful PC or console they work independently to deliver amazing virtual reality experiences. On the other hand, advanced devices like the Apple Vision Pro take things to the next level with cutting-edge features and high-end visuals. Youll also find tethered systems that pair with gaming PCs or consoles for even more detailed graphics and performance, as well as lightweight head-mounted displays for simple, portable VR. If youre searching for the best VR headset for gaming, productivity, or just some casual fun, these are the headsets to consider right now. Table of contents Best VR headsets for 2025 How we test VR headsets Other VR headsets we've tested VR headset FAQs Recent updates Best VR headsets for 2025 How we test VR headsets I tend to judge VR headsets on a few basic criteria: Ergonomics, immersion and controls. It's not that hard to shove a mobile display into a plastic headset and strap some cheap elastic headbands onto it. But it takes skill to craft something that's well balanced and doesn't feel uncomfortable after 30 minutes. My test for ergonomics is fairly simple: How long can I wear a headset until I start to feel discomfort? For the most ergonomic devices, like the Quest 3, that could easily be an hour or two. But heavier PC hardware often feels cumbersome after just 15 minutes you wont find headsets guilty of that in this guide. Immersion, meanwhile, comes from having the highest resolution screens with fast refresh rates, like a 120Hz refresh rate, so everything looks sharp and smooth. Field of view is also a major element, as it describes how well VR screens can cover what you see. Having a narrow field of view makes it feel like youre looking through a pair of binoculars, and limits your sense of presence, or the idea that youre actually transported to a virtual world. A wide field of view, on the other hand, can make it seem like youre actually flying over the globe in Google Earth. We look at a few popular video games, like Superhot, Beat Saber and Pistol Whip, on every headset to judge how immersed we feel and how enjoyable the gaming experience is overall. The best controllers fit naturally in your hands and offer accurate tracking. The industry has basically adopted the design of Metas excellent touch controllers, but we're also seeing intriguing leaps forward like Valve's finger tracking gamepads. We judge controllers based on how easy they are to hold, how they hold up to sweaty gameplay sessions and how easily headsets can track their position in space. However, its important to look at a virtual reality headsets specs as a whole. Depending on what youre looking for from a VR headset, youll want to consider factors like your PCs CPU and graphics card if you plan to use the headset to play the best VR games. You might not need a super powerful PC, but you should check the minimum requirements for the headset youre looking to purchase. If youre not looking to invest in a VR headset solely for gaming, features like head tracking allow you to explore your environment just by simply moving your head in the simulator. This often results in a more immersive and realistic experience. Other VR headsets weve tested HTC Vive Focus Vision The Vive Focus Vision is a sleek premium standalone VR headset that can also deliver solid PC VR. But its also running aging hardware, its riddled with software issues and its expensive compared to the Meta Quest 3. Meta Quest Pro As great as the Meta Quest 3 is, the Quest 2 is still a very good entry-level VR headset, and its worth considering if its on sale below its current $250 list price. The Meta Quest Pro, on the the hand, is an expensive boondoggle best ignored. HTC Vive Pro 2 Outside of Metas hardware, the HTC Vive Pro 2 remains a fantastic PC headset, but its far more expensive than the Valve Index, which is more comfortable and offers better audio. VR headset FAQs How do VR headsets work? At the most basic level, a VR headset is simply a high quality screen that youre holding up to your face. For a wired headset, the actual work of rendering a game is done on either a PC or game console. For completely wireless devices, like the Meta Quest 3, that work is handled right on the headset. They rely on either external sensors, or sensors built into the headsets, to map your physical space. While you can use a traditional gamepad or keyboard and mouse in VR, they typically use motion tracking controllers to immerse you in their 3D environments. What VR headset is best for full body tracking? While were still waiting for a truly great haptic VR bodysuit to arrive, you can still achieve accurate body tracking with most Steam VR-compatible PC headsets. The Valve Index and HTC Vive Pro 2 both rely on room-tracking sensors that can map your body more effectively than the built-in sensors on competitors. You can also add HTC Vive Trackers to wrist and leg straps, as well as belts, for even better coverage. The Meta Quest 3 doesnt have any easy body tracking solutions, but you can add Vive trackers when its plugged into your PC to mimic a Steam VR headset. Only a few experiences, like VRChat, take advantage of full body tracking at the moment. Currently there arent any body tracking solutions for the PlayStation VR and VR2, but were intrigued by the companys Mocopi body trackers, which were really announced in Japan. What VR headsets are better than Oculus? Oculus is the previous name for Metas VR hardware. Currently, Meta only supports the Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro, all of which are wireless headsets. As we explain above, PC VR headsets can generally achieve better quality virtual reality, since they rely on more powerful graphics hardware. What VR headsets work with Xbox? Currently, Microsofts Xbox consoles dont support any VR headsets. Recent updates November 2024: Added the HTC Vive Focus Vision to the "others we tested" section. October 2024: Updated our "best cheap VR headset" top pick to be the Meta Quest 3S.This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/ar-vr/best-vr-headsets-140012529.html?src=rss
