Unity slashes jobs, tells employees they're unemployed via 5am emailSixth wave of cuts in past three years.Image credit: Unity / Eurogamer News by Tom Phillips Editor-in-Chief Published on Feb. 12, 2025 Another wave of redundancies has hit Unity, the company behind the ubiquitous video games engine. The latest job losses - which appear to include all members of some teams - are the sixth in the past three years, during which time roughly 3500 staff have been let go.Yesterday, Unity team members impacted by the latest cull reportedly woke to find out their fate via an email sent from a noreply@unity address at 5am Pacific time, stating their role had been "eliminated" by organisational changes (thanks, 80.lv).Unity CEO Matthrew Bromberg later confirmed the job cuts in an internal memo, obtained by 80.lv, in which he mentioned the repeated nature of job losses at the company."I know that there is some exhaustion associated with prior changes at Unity that haven't delivered the promised results, but 2025 is going to be the year where we bring to market products and services that will transform our position in the marketplace and provide a springboard to long-term growth," Bromberg claimed.Impacted staff say the latest cuts amount to "mass layoffs", including senior staff who had been at the company for years.Included in the cuts are the entire Unity Behavior development team, which worked on a visual tool for programming NPCs and objects. One affected team member, Shanee Nishry, reported that everyone working on the project had been let go in a post on reddit."Unfortunately, we were told today that our team is included in the latest round of layoffs and we will not be able to support you any longer," Nishry wrote. "I've reached out to leadership to ask if they can open-source the project, but there is no guarantee."Unity has yet to tell staff the total number of jobs lost. Eurogamer has contacted the company for comment.

  • Did Call of Duty Warzone ruin Zombies? Modders think so

You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here Contents hide Call of Duty has cemented its place as one of the largest first-person shooter franchises in the world. In March 2020, the launch of Warzone, a free-to-play battle royale, sent Call of Duty into the stratosphere with millions dropping into Verdansk with the task of becoming the last player standing at the end of a match. In the five years following its launch, various elements from Warzone have made their way into multiplayer and Call of Dutys co-op modes. Despite the huge success of Black Ops 6s Zombies mode, modders believe adding features from the battle royale has done more harm than good.Has Warzone negatively impacted Zombies? The days of relying on luck and the power of Perk-a-Colas are long gone with Black Ops 6 Zombies featuring head-up displays (HUD) similar to Warzone, weapon rarities, and armour for additional protection. Although these features enable players to make it to a high round, the reduction of difficulty hasnt gone down well with those creating new maps for the older generation of fans. Save Up to $1,200 on the Samsung Galaxy S25! Pre-order now and save big with trade-in and Samsung credit. Limited time only! *Includes trade-in value + $300 Samsung credit. A Warzone-esque HUD has no place in Zombies, explains modder Gunoftruth. The armour system is a terrible decision, too. Call of Duty Zombies at the core utilises the Perk system, mainly Juggernog, as the main way to gain extra health. The armour system was another unnecessary mechanic that wasnt required for Zombies.Alongside armour and other mechanics that have now become staples across the Call of Duty universe, the ability to equip attachments onto weaponry and build a loadout before the undead begin spawning in. Must-Listen: Publishing Manor Lords w/ Joe Robinson VideoGamer Podcast Listen Now I didnt like how Black Ops 3 and 4 allowed you to add attachments and pick what gun you spawned in with, continued Gunoftruth. Black Ops 6 took things a step further and is another terrible Warzonification of Zombies.Has Warzone sparked a new era for Zombies?Black Ops 6 Zombies caters to a new generation of Call of Duty fans. Relying on the Mystery Box to obtain the strongest weapons is now a thing of the past. Instead, using armour for additional resistance against the undead alongside your favourite gun equipped with a lethal attachment combination is set to be the new norm until the next wave of innovations makes its arrival. For those wanting a classic Zombies offering, modders continue to create all kinds of new maps and features for older Call of Duty games. To this day, many remain popular as fans look for alternatives to Black Ops 6s offering. For more CoD intel, check out the best mouse and keyboard settings along with the best AK-74 loadout perfect for slaying the undead.Related TopicsSubscribe to our newsletters!By subscribing, you agree to our Privacy Policy and may receive occasional deal communications; you can unsubscribe anytime.Share

  • Jean Reno would be "pleased" to reprise his role in an Onimusha 3 Remaster, if it ever happens
    www.vg247.com
Back At It AgainJean Reno would be "pleased" to reprise his role in an Onimusha 3 Remaster, if it ever happensThe ball's in your court, Capcom.Image credit: Capcom News by Connor Makar Staff Writer Published on Feb. 12, 2025 With a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny having been announced last week, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword on the horizon, the future is full of excitement for fans of the classic Capcom series. There is still a gap in the fanbase's heart, however. The people want an Onimusha 3: Demon Siege remaster too, as well as Jean Reno's return to the world of video games.Well it turns out, Mr Reno is game as well! I reached out to Jean Reno via his agent following the Onimusha 2 remaster announcement to ask whether or not he'd be keen to return to reprise his role if an Onimusha 3 remaster were in the cards. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Said agent replied, telling me: "Of course, Jean would be pleased to reprise his role in Onimusha 3." For those unaware, Jean Reno (known for his roles in films such as Leon the Professional, The Big Blue, and of course Flushed Away) played the pivotal role of Jacques Blanc, who swaps places in time with the series protagonist Samanosuke Akechi. This, in short, sends Jean Reno back to Feudal Japan for all manner of action game goodness. It's brilliant.Reno's willingness to reprise his role is wonderful news, and would continue the brief history of Onimusha voice actors returning for remastered versions. When the Onimusha: Warlords remaster was released back in 2018, the original model and voice for Samanosuke, Takeshi Kaneshiro, came back to re-record his lines. Onimusha has a lovely legacy of using actors to voice and model main characters, which is why Reno was brought in to record lines for Onimusha 3 all the way back in the early 2000s.It's also a surefire way to keep fans of the original happy. Take the Dead Rising Remake, which while great, put off a portion of the fan base due to its recasting of every character. There are some good performances in there, sure, but fans of the original are always going to have a soft spot for the OG voices. As for Onimusha 3, Reno lent his voice and his face, so it would be a bit odd to not bring him back all things considered. Now, the world (including Jean Reno) may have to wait a while for this to actually happen. There'll be around about a seven year gap between the release date of the Onimusha 1 remaster and the still pending 2025 release date for Onimusha 2's new look. Here's hoping that with Way of the Sword coming and a lot of noise being made about the series right now, it won't take long to get Onimusha 3 back in our hands. The people want it. Jean Reno wants it. The ball's in your court, Capcom!

  • Star Fox Dev Wants To Work With CD Projeck Red On Star Wars, Of All Things
    www.nintendolife.com
Image: Nintendo LifeWith the upcoming launch of Omega 6: The Triangle Stars on 28th February 2025, creator, ex-Nintendo dev, and Star Fox 64 art director Takaya Imamura has been doing the marketing rounds over the last few weeks. In a new interview with GamesRadar+, Imamura was asked about a potential dream collaboration in the world of game development. Given that he's spent a great deal of his career at Nintendo a company that would no doubt top the list of dream collaborations for many devs he expressed an interest in working alongside Polish studio CD Projekt Red, best known for The Witcher adaptations and Cyberpunk 2077.Not only that, but he also specified a particularly gargantuan media franchise, too. You already know what it is since it's in the ruddy headline, but yes, it's Star Wars:"To tell the truth, I really really like The Witcher 3. I don't know whether we'd get on, but I'd love to work with CD Projekt Red on something. I'd love to do a Star Wars game with them."Of course, both Star Fox and Omega 6 share some minor similarities with Star Wars, so Imamura's statement here doesn't sound totally out of whack. Given the (eventual) acclaim surrounding both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 too, it could well be a great fit.Naturally, however, such an eventuality seems remote at best; the idea of CD Projekt Red commencing work on something as big as Star Wars while it's right in the middle of development for The Witcher IV is highly unlikely. Relying exclusively on big IP would be a "big mistake""I've been dying to play it"What do you make of Imamura's statement here? Do you have a dream collaboration you'd like to see come to fruition? • Sintavia Secures New $10 Million Investment to Bolster Aerospace Production
    3dprintingindustry.com
Sintavia, a Florida-based additive manufacturing service provider specializing in aerospace components, has received $10 million in a subordinated debt investment. The new capital was provided by the Stifel North Atlantic AM-Forward Fund, a Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) that supports US-based aerospace and defense manufacturers.Sintavia, the first company to attract investment from the fund, will use its new cash to refinance existing equipment loans and bolster its general working capital. The financing has also seen Mark Morrissette, Managing Director of Stifel-subsidiary North Atlantic Capital, join Sintavias Board of Directors.Morrissette believes Sintavia is a fantastic fit for the mission of our Fund. He called Brian R. Ne, Sintavias Founder and CEO, a visionary leader for Sintavia, and the additive manufacturing sector more broadly. The venture capital veteran added that the entire Sintavia team has done a terrific job since 2015 in building a vertically integrated, all-digital aerospace component supplier that leverages the positive benefits of additive technology.Sintavia HQ. Photo via Sintavia.Sintavia receives $10 million in new fundingNe noted that Sintavia is honored and humbled to be the launch investment out of the new Stifel North Atlantic AM-Forward Fund. He said, It is great to see Stifels strong commitment to funding profitable, high-growth users of additive technology, and this new fund will certainly have a positive impact across the industry. The Fund, a wholly owned subsidiary of Missouri investment bank and wealth management firm Stifel, launched last October. As part of the US Governments AM Forward program, it seeks to enhance the development and adoption of additive manufacturing within domestic supply chains. Initial investors include Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace, and ASTM International. Industry stalwarts like Honeywell, Raytheon, Siemens Energy, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman also joined as founding partners.Stifels AM-Forward investment builds on Sintavias April 2024 announcement of a $25 million expansion plan. This cash injection is funding investments in large-format 3D printersincluding a second SLM NXG XII 600 LPBF system, post-processing equipment, and enhanced component testing capabilities. It also facilitated a long-term lease on an additional 25,000 ft2 of manufacturing space next to its existing headquarters. The company claimed that this expansion, completed in Q4 2024, will allow it to support US Department of Defense (DOD) programs until 2030. A key focus of the expansion is the development of high-performance thermodynamic components, like 3D printed heat exchanges. Later in 2024, Sintavia secured a DOD contract to develop 3D printed hypersonic propulsion components as part of the Growing Additive Manufacturing Maturity for Airbreathing Hypersonics (GAMMA-H) challenge. Through this initiative, the US service provider will validate the quality and operational processes needed to design and manufacture parts essential for hypersonic flight. As part of its $25 million expansion, Sintavia purchased a second SLM NXG XII 600 printer. Photo via Sintavia.Investment in additive manufacturingThe state of investment in 3D printing is a hot topic, with venture capital firms and government-led projects bankrolling development in additive manufacturing. IDTechEx data shows approximately $650 million was invested across 40 3D printing-related deals.Earlier this month, it was announced that leading 3D printer developer Stratasys received a $120 million equity investment from Israeli private equity firm Fortissimo Capital. Fortissimo acquired 11,650,485 newly issued ordinary shares at $10.30 each, reflecting a 10.6% premium over the January 31, 2025, closing price. This transaction increased its stake from 1.5% to approximately 15.5%.The infusion of new capital aims to strengthen Stratasys balance sheet and drive strategic growth in the additive manufacturing market. Stratays CEO Yoav Zeif stated that the investment underscores confidence in our leadership and performance. He added that the cash would support organic and inorganic expansion.Elsewhere, Dallas-based aerospace startup Firehawk Aerospace, which names Donald Trump Jr as a Partner, raised $60 million in a series C investment led by 1789 Capital. The Florida-based, roughly $150 million venture capital firm, backs companies that promote right-leaning political policies. The capital injection will support the development of Firehawks solid rocket motors (SRM) and 3D printed rocket fuel.3D Printing Industry is hosting a live webinar to preview the 2025 AMUG Conference. • Dubais new architectural benchmark worlds largest 3D printed lounge interior
    3dprintingindustry.com
3D Printing Industry is hosting alive webinar to preview the 2025 AMUG Conference. Join us and our guests, only few hours left!London-based architecture studio DA BUREAU has unveiled what is described as the worlds largest 3D printed restaurant interior design at MYATA Platinum Lounge, a hookah lounge with a restaurant and bar located in Dubais City Walk.Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by 27 distinct canyon-like structures, each constructed from over 20,000 3D printed components. While the machine brands are undisclosed, these elements are crafted using 35 3D printers using recycled plastic and finished with textured paint. By integrating sustainable materials, the project aligns with the regions efforts to cut carbon emissions by 8.8 million tons annually by 2030.To materialise the idea, the studio built the interior on the image of a sand canyon. A canyon is a constantly changing geological formation shaped by water and wind. We recreated its flowing amorphous forms running into each other in a modern interpretation, explained Boris Lvovsky, CEO and co-founder of DA BUREAU.By employing 3D printing, DA BUREAU created whimsical fluted structures that shaped an introverted, inward-looking space, he said.Da Bureau team. Photo via Da Bureau.Dubai capitalizes on construction 3D printingA funnel-like entrance guides guests from the street into the lounge, gradually narrowing to create a sense of transition. Interior views remain concealed from the facade and entrance hall, leading visitors through dimly lit corridors before revealing a spacious main lounge area.Outside, these curving, enveloping rocky structures form a terrace isolated from the city, added Lovovsky. To enhance the ambiance, DA BUREAU partnered with Yarko-Yarko studio to develop a specialized lighting design. Soft amber hues highlight the contours of the canyon structures, tables, and bar counters, while additional lighting effects interact with hookah steam to create visual elements such as hypnotic halos in select areas.Worlds largest 3D printed interior design in Dubai. Photo via Da Bureau. The London-based studio cited that the Middle Easts construction sector is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.4% from 2021 to 2025, and projects incorporating eco-conscious practices continue to gain momentum across large-scale developments. One notable example includes real estate development company Emaar Properties first 3D printed villa in Dubai, a 202 m residence featuring three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a study, and an integrated car park. Originally announced in 2019, the project experienced delays due to the pandemic but now supports Dubais Smart City vision, which targets 25% of construction to be 3D printed by 2030.The real estate company partnered with construction 3D printing firm COBOD and electronics manufacturer Xiaomi to integrate advanced smart home technology into the villas design. Built using COBODs BOD2 3D printer, the structure incorporates curved walls and expansive windows while reducing construction waste. Emaar views 3D printing as a means to accelerate building timelines, cut costs, and introduce distinctive architectural features while minimizing environmental impact.Another standout project in Dubai features WASP 3D printing beach huts for Dior. Constructed entirely from natural materials, the two circular branded structures serve as a display space for the fashion houses exclusive beach and bag collections.3D printing improves interior designsThe integration of 3D printing technology into interior design reflects a growing trend toward combining sustainability with artistic expression. For instance, University of Waterloos School of Architecture researchers developed what is believed to be Canadas first 3D printed masonry wall.Named Hive, the modular structure consists of 175 uniquely designed clay blocks and is now a permanent installation in the reception area of the Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO) office in Toronto. Supported by the Masonry Works Council of Ontario, the project integrates traditional ceramics with computational design and extrusion-based 3D printing, creating a material-efficient honeycomb structure. Custom clay mixes were formulated for printing, enabling intricate apertures that balance privacy and light. Moreover, 3D printer manufacturer Flashforge highlighted the role of its 3D printing technology in improving furniture design and production, expanding AMs applications within the sector. Partnering with a furniture manufacturer, the company utilized its Creator 4 printer to cut prototyping time from 7-10 days down to just 2-3 days. This project demonstrated advantages such as reduced production cycles, adaptable workflows, and compatibility with various materials, indicating broader industry potential. Through this collaboration, Flashforge illustrated how advanced AM techniques can enhance efficiency and flexibility in furniture manufacturing. To stay up to date with the latest 3D printing news, dont forget to subscribe to the 3D Printing Industry newsletter or follow us on Twitter, or like our page on Facebook. While youre here, why not subscribe to our Youtube channel?
