  • Elden Ring Nightreigns Steam page has a clue about its mysterious DLC
    www.polygon.com
Nothing about Elden Ring Nightreign is normal for its developer FromSoftware. Not only is it the studios first spin-off, its the first game that isnt a lonely adventure through a fallen kingdom. Its a co-op experience with some battle royale elements mixed in the kind of game you have to actually get your hands on to fully understand. Its also going to have DLC, and thanks to the Steam page, we know how it will differ from the kind of things FromSoft normally adds to its games. Its not much to go on, but tucked inside the description of the deluxe edition on the Steam page is a line that says Additional DLC Additional playable characters and bosses. Elden Ring Nightreign will launch with eight playable characters who function sort of like different classes. Theres a nimble assassin, a big knight, an archer, and a witch with a big hat. The DLC will apparently add more heroes to the roster, and theyll each come with their own unique combat styles and ultimate abilities.DLC bosses, however, are the biggest mystery. Elden Ring Nightreign ditches the original games canon to include monsters from the Dark Souls series. The big spider from Dark Souls 2 will show up as well as the centipede demon from the first game. So when the Steam page says more bosses are coming, it could be anything FromSoft has thrown at us in the last decade.Personally, I think it would be funny if Sister Friede, the Dark Souls 3 boss who might be as difficult as Elden Rings Malenia, showed up. She has a big scythe and a big angry friend you have to fight alongside her. And if FromSoft knows its audience, dropping Gwyn, Lord of Cinder in there to activate Souls fans as soon as they hear the plin plin plon of his theme play would be glorious. The price of the DLC is still unknown, although its included in the deluxe edition of the game which is about $15 more than the regular version. A $15 pack of characters and bosses might be what we get at the end of the year when the DLC is supposed to drop. As for how DLC will work in a multiplayer game where everyone might not own it? That will be for the team at FromSoft to explain, hopefully before the game launches on May 30.

  • My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: The Garmin Forerunner 955
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication. If you're not an Apple user, Garmin fitness watches are the no-brainer smartwatches to go for if you're looking for the most trusted brands (some Apple users might still want to consider some Garmins depending on their sport). The Garmin Forerunner 955 has been one of the best Garmin watches since its release and can track many activities. It's currently available for $349.95 (originally $499.99) for the rechargeable battery version and $399.99 (originally $599.99) for the solar version, both at the lowest prices they have ever been. Screen Size: 1.3 Inches, Connectivity: Bluetooth and USB, Map Type: Satellite, Battery: 480 Hours Garmin Forerunner 955, Rechargeable Battery $349.95 at Amazon $499.99 Save $150.04 Get Deal Get Deal $349.95 at Amazon $499.99 Save $150.04 Screen Size: 1.3 Inches, Connectivity: Bluetooth and USB, Map Type: Satellite, Battery: Solar Garmin Forerunner 955, Solar $399.99 at Amazon $599.99 Save $200.00 Get Deal Get Deal $399.99 at Amazon $599.99 Save $200.00 SEE -1 MORE Our Senior Health Editor Beth Skwarecki says that Garmin's Forerunner line includes some of the best running watches on the market right now. She's partial to the 265. The 965 is the most full-featured watch in the Forerunner lineup, and the 955 is one generation older but still beloved by runners. Garmin watches tend to have a long lifespan, and some users even prefer the MIP screen in the 955 to the AMOLED in the newer 965.The Garmin Forerunner 955 came out in 2022 as one of Garmin's flagship fitness watches. The 1.3-inch transflective touchscreen display is easily visible outdoors in sunlight (but it won't look as good indoors) and has gorilla glass, so the screen is scratch-resistant, but not scratch-proof. Garmin also gave it touch controls, so it's great for swimming or rainy activities. You'll get about two weeks of battery life with the Forerunner 955. If you live in a sunny environment, you should consider the solar battery one, especially since it's only $50 more right now. It'll give you about a week more of battery life depending on how much sun it gets. The GPS works well and is accurate, according to CNET's review. You can see tracking for HRV (Heart Rate Variability), sleep, previous workouts, and stress, and it gives you a Training Readiness Score, which is based on 100. It tells you how well-recovered and ready you are for workouts. The Forerunner 955 works with iOS and Android, although Apple users won't be able to use the quick replies feature on their phones. At this current price, the Forerunner 955 is a great deal and still a solid fitness watch to get in 2025.

  • This Web App Is TikTok for Reading Wikipedia
    lifehacker.com
There is a moment every week dedicated to placing my face in front of my phone screen: my children's karate practice. While they are learning their kicks and punches, I mindlessly scroll through clickbait, videos, games, and social feeds to pass the time. While it gives me something to do, I don't feel good about it.Then I heard about WikiTok, which, as its name alludes to, is a web interface that combines TikTok and Wikipedia. Unlike traditional video-sharing platforms, WikiTok offers users a refreshing respite from the relentless algorithms that dominate our digital landscape. The web app delivers an article at random, with an engaging image filling the display. If something interests you, you can tap "Read More," and then the full Wikipedia article will pop up in another window. If it doesn't catch your fancy, you scroll up, and another article will randomly appear. Credit: Lifehacker I wanted to test WikiTok, so when my karate kids started doing their thing, I headed to the site and started scrolling, where I encountered a genuinely random feed filled with articles about philanthropist Dorothy Lichtenstein, the second wife of pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, and a rundown of the San Diego Padres' 2019 season. I couldn't stop scrolling, not because WikiTok gave me what I wanted, but because its content was intriguing.Over the next hour, I read about the Samsung Continuum Android phone, learned that Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce will also get Super Bowl rings, and viewed an architectural marvel in Denmark resembling the fjords that dot the country's landscape. The lack of rhyme and reason to WikiTok feeds is intentional, and developer Issac Gemal told Ars Technica that he has no plans to change that anytime soon: "I had to put my foot down and say something along the lines that we're already ruled by ruthless, opaque algorithms in our everyday life; why can't we just have one little corner in the world without them?"Adjusting to life without algorithmsOf course, not having content tailored to your interests takes some getting used to. I was concerned that with each click of "Read More," WikiTok was learning something about me. At one point during my scrolling session, I was convinced that there was a reason why I encountered more than one article on baseball teams and small towns in Arizona, the state I call home. When I returned for another scrolling session the next day, I realized my fears were unfounded. I was fed articles about Las Vegas office complexes, villages in India, and sports motorcycles. Not once did I encounter an article about what I go on the internet for most: news about movies and music.Gemal's creation appears to be exclusively web-based, but several apps that poorly mimic the feeling of being on WikiTok are already available. One even asks for your email address before letting you scroll, which seems suspect. Stick to the web browser version and enjoy your well-deserved break from algorithms.

  • YouTube TV is removing CBS, Nickelodeon and other Paramount channels
    www.engadget.com
You may no longer have access to CBS and CBS Sports, along with Paramount's other channels, through YouTube TV after today, February 13. In an announcement, YouTube has revealed that it's in the middle of negotiations with the company to be able to continue offering its channels. YouTube says it's "fighting for an agreement that avoids passing along additional costs" to you, which indicates that they can't agree on a financial deal that works for both of them, as well as one that gives you "more flexibility in how you watch your favorite sports and shows."In addition to CBS and CBS Sports, the channels affected include Nickelodeon, BET, Comedy Central, MTV and VH1. Several add-ons for YouTube TV, such as Paramount+ with Showtime, will no longer be available, as well. YouTube started adding Paramount's channels to its lineup in 2020, when YouTube TV still cost $50 a month. Today, the live TV streaming service will set you back $70 a month for the first half year and then $83 a month going forward.YouTube says that if it can't reach a deal with Paramount, and the company's content becomes unavailable for "an extended period of time," it will give you $8 in credit. Surprisingly, YouTube is advising viewers who want continued access to the networks shows to sign up for the Paramount+ streaming service, which costs at least $8 a month.Paramount has also started warning subscribers that they won't be able to access its stations through YouTube TV for now and has even published a website informing them about it. The company wrote on the website that it has made a "series of fair offers" to keep the channels on the service. "YouTube TV is attempting to pressure Paramount to agree to one-sided terms, and these non-market demands may lead to an avoidable loss of Paramounts networks on YouTube TV, in addition to the removal of Paramount+ and BET+ from YouTubes Primetime Channels, on February 13," a Paramount spokesperson told Engadget. "Paramount has a long track record of successfully and amicably renewing partnerships with every major distributor, including several in recent months, and we will continue our efforts to reach a new agreement with YouTube TV," they also said.Update, February 14, 2025, 12:08 AM ET: This story has been updated to add Paramount's statement. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/youtube/youtube-tv-is-removing-cbs-nickelodeon-and-other-paramount-channels-143010075.html?src=rss

  • The Twisted Metal season two trailer finally shows off the titular tournament
    www.engadget.com
Peacocks adaptation of the PlayStation classic Twisted Metal was surprisingly fun and I was fairly excited when it got a season two renewal. Now we have an actual trailer for the new batch of episodes and, lo and behold, it focuses almost entirely on the titular tournament. The first season had a lot going for it. Co-leads Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz were charming and the episodes were short, focused and fun. One thing fans were left waiting on, however, was the actual Twisted Metal demolition derby. After all, thats the whole point of the games. The shows creators, which include folks behind Cobra Kai and Deadpool, have fixed this glaring omission, as season two looks to focus exclusively on tournament-based vehicular combat. In other words, we can expect a truckload of off-the-wall nonsense when the second season premieres this summer. The trailer shows off plenty of new faces, many of which are culled from the games, and even spotlights the iconic host Calypso (played by Anthony Carrigan from Barry.) The franchises mascot, killer clown Sweet Tooth, also returns, still voiced by Will Arnett and performed by the wrestler Samoa Joe.For the uninitiated, the first season took place in a post-apocalyptic version of the US and involved a cross-country trip. Despite the dystopian setting, the show managed to be goofy and not grimdark. I would classify it as an action-comedy. Twisted Metal joins other modern TV adaptations of video games, like Knuckles, The Last of Us, Arcane and Castlevania: Nocturne. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/tv-movies/the-twisted-metal-season-two-trailer-finally-shows-off-the-titular-tournament-180609928.html?src=rss
