• Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor Writers Reveal New Exclusives IGN Fan Fest 2025

Titan Comics is releasing their popular Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor comic in a trade paperback this March. At IGN Fan Fest 2025 we chatted with writer Dan Watters (Loki, Home Sick Pilots) and artist Kelsey Ramsay (Dark Spaces: Good Deeds, Joan Jett and the Black Hearts), who revealed new exclusives and talked about crafting the story for The Fifteenth Doctor in comic form.Below, fans can also check out exclusive behind-the-scenes art from Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor comic.Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor Behind-the-Scenes Art GalleryDoctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor follows the TV series' incarnations of The Doctor and his companion, (Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, respectively), as they explore a bizarre shopping mall during some of the final days on Earth. A terrifying new villain, the Scream Sommelier, comes in and classically ruins the day. When it came to creating the Scream Sommelier, Watters said he had the idea in his head for a while, and was waiting for the right story to bring him to life."The idea (was) a godlike figure who was obsessed with bottling and savouring screams," Watters said. "When it was suggested we tie into the Pantheon, the godlike beings whod been making the Doctors recent adventures even more difficult, he seemed like hed be a good fit there. I was happy to exorcise him."The ever-popular enemies from Doctor Who, Cybermen, who made their first appearance in the Doctor Who TV series in 1966, resurfaced in this comic, no doubt exciting fans. Watters said it was a natural decision to include them as enemies."Theyre a great and tragic monster - driven by a very human impulse to survive, pushing themselves beyond the Uncanny Valley to something utterly inhuman. Theyre more relevant today thanthey were when they were first created," Watters said.In terms of dream monsters the creators say they would like to bring to life in comic-form, Ramsay would like to illustrate the infamous Weeping Angels, while Watters would enjoy writing a Carrionite story. "Witches who perform linguistic magic from before the dawn of time? Sign me up," Watters said. When it comes to their dream Doctor, Ramsay shared ever-popular choice, saying, "I think David Tennant feels like a classic to me, I watched more of his series than any other Doctor and sort of grew up with those Christmas specials."Regarding the creation process, Watters said he likes every stage of it. "I enjoy dreaming up ideas. I enjoy the craft of communicating a scene on the page and collaborating with other creators. Every stage of taking an idea out of my head and working with others to turn it into words and images on a page withother creators should never be taken for granted. What a thing to get to do."Ramsay's design process is different, and her favorite part is creating the visual story step-by-step. "With drawing it would start with my favorite part, creating thumbnails visualising the story from the script the most collaborative part. Then pencil/layout on larger paper and inking as the final stage also my favorite as it usually requires the least amount of brain power for me. (It's) the most relaxing part."Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor #1: Exclusive PreviewRamsay gave advice for aspiring comic artists, saying they should focus on their weakest subjects to create a vast design library throughout various generes, to not limit themselves, and to balance their work with what they love. For writing, Watters said you simply have to make things. "Dont worry about other peoples stories, beyond what you can learn from them. Dont worry about what opportunities others are getting, or your dream jobs or aspirations. Make your thing. Become an artist, either with words or pictures. Absorb a lot more than just comics," he conitnued, "Read books, both fiction and nonfiction. Read novellas and short stories and poetry. Watch movies and focus on the cinematography. Stare at paintings and figure out how narrative is conveyed in a single image. Theres always narrative. Absorb as much of the world around you as you can. Solve et coagula."The Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor trade paperback comes out on March 18, 2025, and you can scoop it up at your favorite comic shop.

  • Heres how the iPhone 16es battery capacity compares with the rest of the lineup
    9to5mac.com
iPhone 16e will arrive in stores tomorrow, but the press has already published the first reviews of the new entry-level iPhone and many of them have praised its battery life. But what exactly is its battery capacity and how does it compare with the rest of the iPhone lineup? Read on as we break down all the numbers below.Comparing the iPhone 16e battery with the rest of the lineupTypically, Apple doesnt discuss mAh battery numbers. Instead, the company says how long the battery lasts in specific situations such as watching videos offline or via streaming. However, thanks to YouTuber Dave Lee of the Dave2D channel, we now know the exact internal battery capacity of the brand new iPhone 16e, and its surprisingly big.According to Lee, the iPhone 16e has a battery capacity of 3961 mAh. The figure is higher than the battery in the base iPhone 16 model, for example.iPhone 16: 3561 mAhiPhone 16 Plus: 4674 mAhiPhone 16e: 3961 mAhiPhone 16 Pro: 3582 mAhiPhone 16 Pro Max: 4685 mAhThe battery is also bigger than the one inside the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14, with 3561 mAh and 3349 mAh respectively. And heres how Apple compares the battery of the iPhone 16 lineup:iPhone 16: Up to 18 hours of streaming video or 22 hours of offline videoiPhone 16 Plus: Up to 24 hours of streaming video or 27 hours of offline videoiPhone 16e: Up to 21 hours of streaming video or 26 hours of offline videoiPhone 16 Pro: Up to 22 hours of streaming video or 27 hours of offline videoiPhone 16 Pro Max: Up to 29 hours of streaming video or 33 hours of offline videoThe difference from the now-discontinued iPhone SE 3 is even more significant, as the devices internal battery only had a capacity of 2018 mAh. The iPhone SE 3 only had enough battery for up to 10 hours of streaming video or 15 hours of offline video.According to Engadgets review, the iPhone 16e had no problem lasting well longer than 24 hours unplugged. MKBHD also agrees that the phone has a really good battery. But having a decent internal battery isnt the only thing that helps the iPhone 16es battery last longer. An important component of this new iPhone is the C1 chip, Apples first 5G modem. The company says that the new modem uses much less energy than the modems used in other iPhones, which has already been proven by lab tests. In the high signal strength conditions, average power draw for the iPhone 16 on 5G was 0.88 watts, compared with just 0.67 watts on the iPhone 16e a difference of about 24%. In the low signal test, average power draw was 0.81 watts and 0.67 watts respectively, a difference of about 17%.iPhone 16e is now available to order with prices starting at $599 for the 128GB version. Alternatively, you can buy other iPhone models at a discount.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. • Rumor Replay: Foldable iPhone breakthrough, AirTag 2 release date, more
    9to5mac.com
This is Rumor Replay, a weekly column at 9to5Mac offering a quick rundown of the most recent Apple product rumors, with analysis and commentary. Today: Apples foldable iPhone breakthrough, the AirTag 2 release window narrows, iPhone 17 Pro and 17e reports, and more. Here are this weeks Apple rumors.AirTag 2 release window narrowsThis week leaker Kosutami posted on X about when to expect the AirTag 2 to release. We had previously heard it should arrive by mid-year, but that was a fairly large window.According to the new report, AirTag 2 will launch in either May or June.My takeawaysIts good to get a better idea of when to expect Apples AirTag successor. Amazon keeps running big discounts on the current AirTag, so I had wondered if AirTag 2 might arrive sooner rather than later. But it seems Apple still needs to clear existing inventory before launching the new AirTag.Foldable iPhone breakthrough and another new designThis week brought two reports on Apples foldable iPhone. One reiterated that 2026 remains the planned launch date, while the other mentioned a big breakthrough for Apple: it has reportedly made the foldables crease virtually invisible. On a related note, Mark Gurman teased that 2026s foldable wont have the only new iPhone design coming. He wrote, Theres also another new iPhone design in the works for that year, Im told.My takeawaysTheres still plenty of time for Apples plans to change, but the closer we get to 2026, the more likely it seems that a foldable iPhone is indeed coming soon. Im especially excited to hearthough not surprisedthat the devices crease is largely invisible. Between this and the iPhone 17 Air it will be a couple very exciting years for Apples flagship product.Gurmans comment about another new iPhone design raises lots of questions. It could be as simple as the base iPhone 18 getting a refreshed design, since changes on this years iPhone 17 wont be very drastic. But the way he phrased it, Gurman sounds like hes saying we should expect another new iPhone form factoralong the lines of the foldable. I cant imagine what that might be, but Im fascinated to learn more.iPhone 17 Pro upgrades, plus early hint of 17e modelAccording to Mark Gurman, Apple is investing heavily in the iPhone 17 Pros camera system with the aim of upgrading its video capabilities. The goal, per Gurman, is to get the vlogging community and other video creators to move away from standalone cameras and use the iPhone for even more of their work. Perhaps on a related note, iPhone 17 Pro models are again said to feature 12GB of RAM, a 50% increase from the current 8GB. This no doubt is tied to AI, but camera upgrades may be part of the reason too.Moving from the iPhone 17 high-end down to the low, Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital shared that theres a new project code in the iPhone supply chain thats suspected to be for an iPhone 17e model. My takeawaysApple always prioritizes making its iPhone camera system better, so Gurmans report on video upgrades makes sense. It will be interesting to see how many of the improvements come to the iPhone 17 Air too, or if theyre Pro exclusives. As for the rumored iPhone 17e, such a model would certainly help explain Apple abandoning the iPhone SE naming structure. Id assumed the change was simply related to the 16e being less of an SE than it is a 16. But I wouldnt be surprised to see a new 17e model debut next year around this time eitherdepending on how the 16e performs.C-class modems built into main chipThe iPhone 16es new C1 offers two key advantages over Qualcomm, but its just the start of Apples modem plans. Per Mark Gurman, the company aims to integrate its 5G modems into the main M- and A-class chips in the future. This changenot expected before 2028should make the electronics more energy-efficient and reduce the cost.My takeawaysI love the thought of Apples modem getting integrated into the main device processor. As my colleague notes, this move could potentially lead to a future where all iPad models (and hopefully Macs?) automatically include the option for 5G connectivity. Eliminating the need for a paid hardware upgrade to have a cellular modem would be a great change. What are your takeaways from this weeks Apple rumors? • Cops Investigating Bizarre Circumstances of Gene Hackman's Death
    futurism.com
Image by Hector Mata / AFP via Getty / FuturismDevelopmentsThe passing of actor and Hollywood icon Gene Hackmanwas tragic enough. But now his death, alongwith his wife, classical musician Betsy Arakawa, has been labelled "suspicious" by investigators, NBC News reports. On Wednesday, Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 64, were found dead in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, along with one of the couple's dogs. While initial reports stated that foul play had been ruled out by police which they still maintain detectives in a recently released search warrant wrote that Hackman and Arakawa's deaths are "suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation," as quoted by NBC.The grim discovery was made by a maintenance worker who checked inside the household after noticing that the couple's front door was left open. Investigators who arrived at the scene found Hackman's body lying in a mudroom, while Arakawa was found on a bathroom floor with a space heater near her head. The deceased dog was discovered in Arakawa's closet, while two others on the property were still alive: one in the bathroom, and another outside.A deputy noted that Hackman appeared to have suddenly fallen. In the bathroom where Arakawa was found, a bottle of pills was spilled on the countertop. It's possible that the space heater "could have fallen in the event the female abruptly fell to the ground," the deputy said, per NBC.The fire department found no signs of a carbon monoxide leak or poisoning, according to the warrant, which quickly emerged as theories that could explain the grisly scene. One detective notes, however, that such a cause of death can be difficult to detect, . Nearby gas lines were tested by New Mexico Gas Company, but no issues were found with any of the pipes.Neither body showed obvious signs of trauma, police said, stressing that it's still early into the investigation."The autopsy is going to tell us more,"Santa Fe county sheriff Adan Menda . Hackman, a two-time Oscar winner, confirmed his retirement from acting in 2008, ending a legendary career spanning more than four decades. He boasted a singular screen presence somewhere between a leading man and character actor, excelling at both. He brought vigor and an often buried sense of humanity to all his roles, no matter how larger than life. Deceptively versatile, his trademark wry smirk and gritty mug were equally suited for dogged bastards, moody messes, and sneering villains. No one can forget the palpable desperation he brought to his now genre-defining performance as tough-as-nails cop Popeye in "The French Connection" (1971). Hackman was also effortless in comedic roles, like in what was his veritable swan song as a blundering head of a family in "The Royal Tenenbaums" (2001).Fellow industry legend and New Hollywood trailblazer Francis Ford Coppola grieved Hackman's passing."The loss of a great artist, always cause for both mourning and celebration: Gene Hackman, a great actor, inspiring and magnificent in his work and complexity," Coppola, who directed Hackman in the Palme d'Or winning film "The Conversation" (1974), wrote on Instagram. "I mourn his loss, and celebrate his existence and contribution."More on Hollywood: NASA Posts Touching Tribute to the Late David LynchShare This Article

  • When Police Bought Teslas, It Blew Up in Their Faces
    futurism.com
"I'm not ready to put an officer in a Tesla."A little over a year on the market, drivers have been finding all kinds of uses for Cybertrucks. They've turned out to be handy paperweights, and they make lovely snowman, as well as a nice place to store your eggs. One anonymous patron is hoping they make great police cruisers as well, after the Las Vegas Metro Police Department announced it acquired ten of the infamous EVs via a generous donation. While the majority will be fitted for light patrol work, at least one will be fitted out as a SWAT vehicle, the LVMPD said. For its part, the police department is confident the new fleet will go over well, with LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill calling them "badass.""The cop inside will be safe no matter what, it will stop bullets," McMahill boasted. "This is also a tremendous recruitment tool."McMahill's faith in the EV to stop bullets is laudable, especially given the cybertruck windshield's strange habit of shattering when wiped with a cloth, nevermind actual gunfire. Maybe he's right to be confident after seven recalls in just over a year, one would hope Tesla has worked out all the kinks. The Vegas Sheriff's attitude is a notable break from his fellow cops across the country, whose experiments using Teslas have failed spectacularly.Nowhere has that been more apparent than Nevada's western brother, California. Following governor Gavin Newsom's statewide mandate to transition all California vehicles to zero-emission, a number of departments have deployed various Tesla models to their fleets. The results range from mild inconveniences to outright dysfunction. In Menlo, California, police chief David Norris noted that Tesla's are far from the "patrol cars of the future."A report on the use of the vehicles noted that officers liked the acceleration, steering, and speed of the EVs, but found significant issues as soon as the cruisers had to go offroad. Their size is also a cause of concern for gadget-laden first responders."The equipment overhangs the passenger seat making it nearly unusable," the report reads. "In particular, the passenger seat space would not allow training officers to comfortably sit next to a trainee for a 12-hour shift, preventing field training for new officers. The rear seats provide very little room for anyone detained or transported in the back of the car."Meanwhile, Ukiah Police Chief Cedric Crook told SF Gate that "I'm not ready to put an officer in a Tesla."Evidently, the rear seats are only big enough to fit one mirandized passenger at a time, and there were major concerns over charging, especially while transporting arrestees.Ukiah's Model 3s will instead serve as transport vehicles for administrative staff, after a lengthy six-month modification due to the lack of auto shops with knowledge of outfitting Teslas for emergency use.A little farther north, police in Spokane, Washington found that outfitting Tesla Model Ys for duty was a mixed bag, as adding a laptop mount obscures the EV's touchscreen dashboard. The vehicle's distinctive design also foiled any rear-cabin modifications for transporting arrestees, while larger officers struggled with the Y's lacking leg room.Only time will tell whether Las Vegas will have any more luck with its shiny new Cybertrucks. If their performance in civilian hands is any indication, Vegas police might be in for a bumpy ride.Share This Article

It doesn't have the battery life of the Surface Laptop 7, but it also lacks the potential compatibility issues you might run into with a laptop with neither an Intel nor an AMD CPU but an Arm-based Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor. We love the Pavilion Plus 14 for its all-metal enclosure, strong performance and gorgeous OLED display. Sitting between the meat-and-potatoes Pavilion line and the higher-end Envy line, the Pavilion Plus series offers attractive features at affordable prices. The Pavilion Plus 14 would make a good match for many people shopping for a Windows laptop. Other models we've tested and reviewed are great fits for narrower audiences, from budget models and two-in-one convertibles to high-powered gaming laptops. A lot. Which makes narrowing it down to just one more than a little tricky. The HP Pavilion Plus is exemplary because it can meet the needs of a lot of people while still being affordable. Its available in 14- and 16-inch sizes; we tested the 14-inch model, which is small enough for travel but big enough that you wont feel cramped while working. HP offers AMD and Intel processors, which can also be configured with entry-level discrete graphics. There are also multiple displays to match your budget, including a beautiful OLED panel. The starting price is $1,000, but HP regularly discounts it by hundreds of dollars. We tested an AMD model, and HP still sells both AMD and Intel configurations of the Pavilion Plus 14, but the customizable model with the cheap OLED upgrade is now an Intel-based unit with a Core Ultra CPU. We recommend getting that OLED screen; It adds only $60 to the package and is worth it -- especially when you can find it on sale and get the OLED upgrade for little more than $700 in total. That's a great price for a well-rounded, well-built laptop with an OLED display. CNET Score Breakdown 8.5 /10 SCORE Design 9 Features 9 Performance 9 Battery Life 7 8.1

  • Bug That Showed Violent Content in Instagram Feeds Is Fixed, Meta Says
    www.cnet.com
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, apologized on Thursday forthe violent, graphic contentsome users saw on their Instagram Reels feeds. Meta attributed the problem to an error the company says has been addressed."We have fixed an error that caused some users to see content in their Instagram Reels feed that should not have been recommended," a Meta spokesperson said in a statement provided to CNET. "We apologize for the mistake."Meta went on to say that the incident was an error unrelated to any content-policy changes the company has made. At the start of the year, Instagram made some significant changes to its user and content-creation policies, but these changes didn't specifically address content filtering or inappropriate content appearing on feeds.Meta made its own content-moderation changes more recently and has dismantled its fact-checking department in favor of community-driven moderation. Amnesty International warned earlier this month that Meta's changes could raise the risk of fueling violence.Read more: Instagram May Spin Off Reels As a Standalone App, Report SaysMeta says that most graphic or disturbing imagery it flags is removed and replaced with a warning label users must click through to view the imagery. Some content, Meta says, is also filtered for those younger than 18. The company says it develops its policies around violent and graphic imagery with the help of international experts and that refining those policies is an ongoing process.Users posted on social media and on message boards, including Reddit, about some of the unwanted imagery they saw on Instagram, presumably due to the glitch. They included shootings, beheadings, people being struck by vehicles, and other violent acts.Brooke Erin Duffy, a social media researcher and associate professor at Cornell University, said she's unconvinced by Meta's claims that the violent-content issue was unrelated to policy changes."Content moderation systems -- whether powered by AI or human labor -- are never failsafe," Duffy told CNET. "And while many speculated that Meta's moderation overhaul (announced last month) would create heightened risks and vulnerabilities, yesterday's 'glitch' provided firsthand evidence of the costs of a less-restrained platform."Duffy added that while moderating social-media platforms is difficult, "platforms moderation guidelines have served as safety mechanisms for users, especially those from marginalized communities. Meta's replacement of its existing system with a 'community notes' feature represents a step backward in terms of user protection."

PlayStation's pitch-black FPS Midnight Murder Club arrives in March, and friends can play for freeComing to PS5 and PC.Image credit: Velan Studios/PlayStation News by Matt Wales News Reporter Published on Feb. 28, 2025 Velan Studios, the team behind the sadly ill-fated Knockout City, has announced its PlayStation-published pitch-black FPS Midnight Murder Club is launching into PC and PS5 early access on 13th March. And as an added incentive to make a purchase, up to five friends can play for free.Midnight Murder Club sets players loose in the pitch-black interior of Wormwood Manor - arming them with a revolver and flashlight, and then challenging them to be the last person standing. "You sprint toward your friends' shouting voices echoing through the mansion, only to bump into someone else hiding in a dark corner!", Velan enthuses in a bout of scene-setting on the PlayStation Blog. "Shots ring out, luring the other hunters to your location. Every flash of light is the promise of a deadly firefight."Midnight Murder Club's choatic action comes in five distinct flavours. There's a Free for All mode, as well as Thief in the Night, Team Deathmatch, Headhunters, and the newly announced Wildcards mode. This last one lets everyone play cards in their collection to twist the rules of a match - perhaps giving participants super speed or causing them to explode in a fiery ball on death - with new cards unlocking once the match is over.Midnight Murder Club developer diary.Watch on YouTubePerhaps the most notable aspect of today's announcement, however, is the news purchasers can invite their friends to play along at no extra cost. • Here's a look at PUBG creator's survival game set in a wilderness generated by machine learning
    www.eurogamer.net
Here's a look at PUBG creator's survival game set in a wilderness generated by machine learningPrologue: Go Wayback! out in "Q2".Image credit: PlayerUnknown Productions News by Matt Wales News Reporter Published on Feb. 27, 2025 PUBG creator Brendan Greene's "ambitious" three-game project will soon get underway with the launch of Prologue: Go Wayback! in "Q2" this year. And in the run up to the survival game's release, Greene's studio PlayerUnknown Productions has shared a first trailer. For some backstory, Greene unveiled his studio's three-game plan last December, explaining that each project would build on the last, culminating in something called Project Artemis. That started with last year's early access release of Preface: Undiscovered World - not one of Greene's three planned games, but rather an "immersive tech demo" giving players the opportunity to explore an Earth-scale world generated by machine learning agents in real-time.With that project now out in the wild, things are about to step up a notch with the release of Prologue: Go Wayback!. This builds on last year's tech demo by introducing more traditional survival game elements into a wilderness generated by machine learning - enabling "millions" of maps and delivering what's being described as a self-contained "single-player open-world emergent game within the survival genre".Prologue: Go Wayback! trailer.Watch on YouTubeGo Wayback! promises a world where "emergent systems subtly influence gameplay", with players needing to brave unpredictable weather and ever-changing landscapes as they attempt to reach the Weather Station and call for help to escape the wilderness. To that end, they'll begin with an old, weathered map and essential tools, utilising resources, foraging for food, making repairs, and building shelters to improve their chances of survival."No one will tell you where to go or how to survive," explains the blurb on Steam. "There are no hand-holding mechanics, no fixed paths, and no guarantees. It's a world where preparation is key, and improvisation is often the difference between life and death." That's about all the information shared so far, but Prologue: Go Wayback!'s first trailer, which you can see above, gives an approximate idea of how it'll all unfold as players explore vast expanses of autumnal forests, crystalline lakes, and looming mountains in snow, ice, and driving rain.Go Wayback! is the first of three standalone games that'll serve as "building blocks" for the studio's ultimate project, Artemis - "a massive multiplayer sandbox experience that leverages the technological advancements tested" across earlier games. "After Prologue, two more games are planned for release in the coming years," Greene explained previously, "each addressing critical technical challenges that will bring the studio closer to the final product."
