• Theres Never Been a Better Time to Check Out Yolo, a Twisted Sci-Fi Girl Power Parody
    gizmodo.com
Theres more Yolo on the horizon: the third season of the Adult Swim series, subtitled Unicorn Trinity, arrives March 9promising to continue the fantastically zany bestie hijinks of Yolo: Crystal Fantasy and Yolo: Silver Destiny. Theres no other show quite like it, and it deserves to have more eyeballs devouring its freakiness. The first time I discovered Crystal Fantasy, it was late at night after a day at the theme parks on vacation. Wed just gotten back to the hotel room from drinking all over the world, and turned on Adult Swim for some background noise. The animation was rough, reminiscent of Beavis and Butt-Headif they were millennial chicks in Australias club scene. We had some laughs at jokes that would grab our attention, but it wasnt until a creature from a toilet bowl broke reality and turned the lead animated character Sarah (Sarah Bishop) into a live-action human (played by show creator Michael Cusack) that we all were sucked down the drain along for the ride. It was a quiet moment, a dance of self-reflection that lingered until it smash cut back into the cartoon world, where the character Sarah was really off in her head drunkenly having one of those moments on the dance floor. The irreverent absurdity of the episode hooked me. I had to binge the show when we got back home, and fell in love with the messy friendship between uncool and chill Sarah and her chaotically toxic yet endearing best friend Rachel (Todor Manojlovic). Maybe I recognized myself as having been part of similar friendshipsbut as which character? Often times both, depending on whether I was in my destructive era or healing era of my 20s. What really got me was Yolos dank-meme internet humor mixed with the fantasy and sci-fi circumstances the best friends would often have to overcome. The millennial bestie experience is roasted here with choice cringe humor. Like when one of you has to fight your boyfriends new trash girlfriend (but no, really shes a trash bin) to the deathbut also experience those fizzy, bubbly giggle moments, like when your horoscope says you can take a rocket to your parents holiday house to take a break from your toxic best friend. Then it gets all out violent, like when you go to a music festival where you dance till you die Hunger Games-style, and also go through the usual acid trips of epiphanies of needing to grow up or grow apart. You know, the ones that you end up forgetting all about after a good night of sobering sleep, but also both realize Omglike, we almost died last night. Yolo is relatable content. The seasons of the friendship between Rachel and Sarah fill me with secondhand embarrassment and wistful wishes to relive the ragers spent with the women who helped me become the person I am now. From the first few episodes Ive seen of Yolo: Rainbow Trinity, we are so back, baby, for more cosmic misadventures about the complicated nature of friendship. Theres more Boomer parent involvement this time around, which isagainsuper relatable, because who hasnt been on a wine tour looking for that hole in the wall club and then had run-ins with the awkward nerds simping for the clueless girl protected by her dont-even-think-about-it bestie after getting trapped in an alternate reality of the past? The stakes get weirder as they get older and were here for our girls Rachel and Sarah always. Yolo: Crystal Fantasy and Yolo: Silver Destiny are season two are now streaming on Max. Yolo: Unicorn Trinity releases on Adult Swim and Max March 9. Want more io9 news? • Mecha Break Is A Larger-Than-Life Hero Shooter That Scratches My Titanfall Itch
    www.gamespot.com
I like robots--especially comically large ones armed with various weapons. When I received an invitation to visit Amazing Seasun Games' Irvine, California office to try out their latest title, Mecha Break, all I really knew going into it was that I'd be playing a game featuring really big robots armed with various weapons. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting (other than access to the aforementioned giant robots), but I certainly wasn't expecting to fall in love. Most of Amazing Seasun Games' previous titles were unknown to me, and all I'd seen of Mecha Break were some impressive trailers. When I finally sat down to take the free-to-play mech-based third-person hero shooter for a test-fly, I was admittedly a bit apprehensive. The live-service hero shooter market is oversaturated enough as it is, and it's a tough genre to stand out in. Is Mecha Break up to the task? So far, the answer appears to be "yes."Mecha Break is mech-nerd heaven. The game features a cast of 13 different mechs--referred to in-game as Strikers--each with their own set of unique weapons and abilities. When selecting a Striker, players can look at a graph showing that particular mech's strengths and weaknesses. Some Strikers are great for lone-wolf playstyles, some are better at supporting or defending one's team, and some are a combination of both. Each Striker feels surprisingly well-balanced--while I quickly fell in love with a specific Striker that fit my preferred playstyle (more on that in a bit), I never felt that one Striker was too overpowered or underpowered.Continue Reading at GameSpot

This is the first time that the legendary thief will be playable, and it'll be up to you to use her skills to solve various capers across the globe. Knights in Tight SpacesRelease date: March 4Platform: PCAnyone who played Fights in Tight Spaces can attest to that game being one of the best 007 simulators around, and developer Ground Shatter is extending that formula to ye olden times. Knights in Tight Spaces is another combo of deckbuilding strategy and stylish tactics, but with a few new flourishes that'll put your strategic thinking to the test. See on Steam Two Point MuseumRelease date: March 4Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|SAfter two games focused on the health sector and higher education, Two Point Studios is looking to the past for its next simulator. See at Amazon Everhood 2Release date: March 4Platforms: PC, SwitchThe original Everhood was a pretty weird game when it first launched, and its sequel looks like it's going to turn up the bizarre factor to 11. Undertale and Deltarune fans will likely find themselves drawn to Everhood 2 as it puts a unconventional spin on the ARPG genre with its rhythm-based action and a campaign that revolves around completing several Herculean labors. See on Steam FragpunkRelease date: March 6Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|SIt's risky to launch a new hero shooter--just look at Concord for a sad example--but FragPunk could break through that glass ceiling to find success, thanks to a few key factors. It's a good-looking game with an interesting cast of characters, but the real draw here are the Shard Cards that can be used to shake up its 5v5 gameplay at the drop of a hat.Developer Bad Guitar Studio says that there'll be over 100 Shard Cards to make use of when FragPunk launches, and these can be used to get a second wind, empower bullets with chain lightning, give everyone massive heads, and much more. Throw in a focus on fast-paced matches and short TTK windows, and FragPunk could emerge as a digestible piece of entertainment for rapid-fire gaming sessions. See on Steam Split FictionRelease date: March 6Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|SNo one makes a co-op game quite like It Takes Two developer Hazelight does, and if you're in the mood to travel across fantasy and sci-fi worlds, then you'll want to check out Split Fiction this month. Like its previous games, this is a mandatoryco-op adventure, but one that looks like plenty of fun. Thanks to the cross-play Friend Pass system, you only need one copy of the game as you can invite a friend to join you, even if they haven't purchased Split Fiction. See at Amazon Bleach: Rebirth of SoulsRelease date: March 21Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|SBleach made a big comeback not long ago with the release of a new anime series focused on the manga's final storyline, and with renewed interest in the saga of Ichigo Kurosaki comes a brand-new fighting game. It has been 15 years since the last Bleach fighting game was released--although Ichigo did star in Jump Force--and Bleach: Rebirth of Souls looks like a sharp clash of blades between Soul Society's greatest swordsmen. Rebirth of Souls already has an impressive roster of characters, and the game will cover the Substitute Soul Reaper Arc through to the climactic battle against Sosuke Aizen in the Arrancar Arc. See at Amazon AI LimitRelease date: March 27Platforms: PC, PS5This souls-like game with an anime-influenced art direction was first announced back in 2019, and like other games in the genre, it's full of challenging boss fights, enemies with telegraphed attacks, and satisfying windows of opportunity to counter them. Set in a post-apocalyptic world that has pushed humanity to the brink of extinction, AI Limit puts you in control of Arrisa. The neat gameplay twist to this game is that you'll gain access to a wide variety of weapons that can deal devastating damage using Sync Rate attacks to unleash extra-powerful blows. See on Steam AtomfallRelease date: March 27Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox OneFallout with a British vibe, Atomfall is a new game from Sniper Elite and Strange Brigade developer Rebellion. Set in an alternate version of the 1950s, the game draws upon the real-life nuclear accident during the Windscale fire in 1957 to create an experience influenced by classic British sci-fi like Doctor Who, The Quatermass Xperiment, and more. It's up to you to discover what really happened at Windscale, a task that involves dealing with the British military, malfunctioning robots, and cultists in the very British post-apocalyptic countryside. See at Amazon The First Berserker: KhazanRelease date: March 27Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|SThe next entry in the Dungeon & Fighter series, The First Berserker: Khazan combines old-fashioned hack-and-slash gameplay with a few souls-like gameplay mechanics. It also looks heavily inspired by the late Kentaro Miura's Berserk manga series, so it's a good bet that this will be a grim and brutal action game. The game features Ben Starr--who voiced Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy 16 and recently played Jimbo in a disturbing Balatro advert--as the voice of Khazan. See on Steam Killing Floor 3Release date: March TBCPlatforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|SNo other game does carnage-fueled action quite like the Killing Floor does, and for the threequel, it looks like a bloody good time is in the cards. Like the previous games, Killing Floor 3 will challenge you to survive against hordes of homicidal Zed mutants while you explore a corporate dystopia, and while the core game looks great, the post-launch support looks even better. Launching cross-play across all platforms and a selection of weekly mutators that'll keep you on your toes, Killing Floor 3 is shaping up to be a grisly co-op package. • Francis Ford Coppola thrilled to accept 6Razzie noms for Megalopolis
    www.polygon.com
Francis Ford Coppolas Megalopolis will not be receiving any awards at the Oscars this weekend, but Coppola is taking his bows anyway, in an Instagram post graciously accepting the movies nominations and awards from the 2025 Razzie Awards.Megalopolis a loose adaptation of an incident in Ancient Roman history, an autobiographical bid for the directors own opinion of his legacy, and a sci-fi epic about an architect who can stop time has been puzzling audiences and film distributors since it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. And it seems that the folks behind the Razzies feel similarly, nominating it for no less than six Razzie Awards: Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor (dual nominations for Shia LeBeouf and John Voight), and Worst Screen Combo (for The Entire Cast of Megalopolis). It was only awarded Worst Director and Worst Supporting Actor (John Voight), however, being beaten in most of its other categories by Madame Web. I am thrilled to accept theRazzieawardin so many important categories for @megalopolisfilm, Coppola wrote on Instagram, and forthe distinctive honor of being nominated as the worst director, worst screenplay, and worst picture at a time when so few have the courage to go against the prevailing trends of contemporary moviemaking! Its not exactly a surprising response, from a guy who released a trailer for Megalopolis that doubled as a roastfest for critics whod panned his better-regarded films. May we all be as confident in our deeply personal creative bullshit as Coppola is in his and may all our deeply personal, incredibly niche, long-gestating creative bullshit be received more like The Shape of Water.

  • Start Using This Ultimate Tax Spreadsheet Now so Youre Ready for Next Year
    lifehacker.com
Time is ticking to file your taxes before April 15, 2025. If you've already do so, congrats! Now you can kick back and await that refund, right? Surebut your relief will be short-lived. Once tax season rolls around next year, you'll again find yourself frantically searching for receipts, statements, and other documentation needed to file an accurate return. Instead of accepting the annual scramble, you can get ahead of the game by using a spreadsheet to track all your tax-related information throughout the year. And there's no better time to start than right nowwhen your tax knowledge is fresh as can beto make your spreadsheet and start logging things away for next April. Make your own spreadsheetor download this template I've created a basic template to get you started here. And I mean basicthis is for people who essentially just want to convert their Form 1040s into a spreadsheet, so all your yearly info is one accessible, editable location. I've included different tabs depending on what you want to track and just how thoroughly you want to track it. For instance, the first tab is a simple table that turns different lines on your Form 1040 into rows of datamaking the information easily accessible from year to year. Another tab allows you to clearly list out your income and deductions throughout the year. I've even included a tab dedicated to home office expenses, if that applies to you. There might be some redundancies or glaring omissions based on your personal situation, so I urge you to take what I've given you and run wild with it. It's different strokes for different folks, and different spreadsheets for different...freaks. (It's a slant rhyme.) Basics to include on your tax spreadsheetYou can expand on the template above, or start from scratchwhatever allows you to get the most out this system. Give it a clear name like "2025 Tax Records" so you can easily reference it later. Remember, the goal is to have a single file where you can input and update information and keep everything centralized. To get started with a barebones tax tracking spreadsheet, create separate sections or tabs for different categories of tax information. At minimum, you'll want sections for:Income. This will track income from jobs, self-employment, investments, retirement distributions, etc.Deductions. List out anything you plan to itemize or claim as a deduction, such as mortgage interest, charitable giving, medical expenses, etc.Tax credits. Track estimated expenses that may qualify for a tax credit, like education costs, childcare, etc.Prior year tax documents. Keep a record of last year's tax return details and any carryover items. How to use your tax spreadsheetWithin each section, create rows and columns to track the details you need for tax time. For example, under Income you may want columns for:Date earnedIncome source/employerAmount earnedTax withholdingsFor deductions, you may have columns like:Date paidExpense category (medical, mortgage interest, charity, etc.)AmountMake updating your information a habitAs you earn income throughout the year, be diligent about entering the details into your income section right away, while it's all still fresh. Do the same with potential deductions as you incur those expenses. You can update your spreadsheet weekly, monthly, or whenever is convenient, as long as you stick to a routine.Keep digital copies of all your documentsAny time you receive tax documentationlike W2s, 1099s, donation receipts or mortgage interest statements save digital copies and attach or link them within your spreadsheet file. This creates a handy archive of all your tax records in one spot.Using a spreadsheet to meticulously track your tax information throughout the year will save you the inevitable time and stress of having to reconstruct it all at the last minute. While staying organized requires diligence, that small effort goes a long way when tax season arrives. Your future self will appreciate having these detailed records ready to go. From the most thorough travel plans, to excruciatingly detailed journals, to elaborate to-do lists: If you have a goal, that goal needs a spreadsheet.
