  • Unique Ways to Elevate your Entryway for a Welcoming Home
    archeyes.com
Front Entrance | Sean Benesh via UnsplashFirst impressions matter, so you want your home to make a lasting one. The best way to do this? With the entryway! Its the first place people step into as you invite them into your home, and it sets the tone for whats to come. A well-thought-out entryway can instantly make people feel welcome, transforming it into an inviting space that speaks volumes about your style and personality. From selecting the right home flooring to adding statement art and fresh greenery, there are many ways to let your personality shine. Whether youre looking to refresh this space with subtle touches or planning a complete overhaul, lets explore the tips and tricks for making your entryway a welcoming space.Define the Space with Unique Floor DetailsOne of the best ways to instantly lift your space is with your flooring. It sets the stage for your entire home, expressing your style, setting the mood, and adding functionality.Luxury vinyl flooring is a popular entryway choice, as it perfectly balances style and practicality. You can achieve a high-end look without compromising durability with various finishes that mimic wood, stone, or concrete. Its also easy to maintain, so you dont have to stress about muddy footprints.Want to create a cozy look? Add a rug to your floors to add a touch of warmth. Choose a pattern that reflects your style and sets the tone for your home.Create Functional Flow with Clever Furniture Clay Banks via Unsplash Eddy Billard via UnsplashWhile space is limited in an entryway, the right pieces of furniture can add function and style. A console table is a timeless addition, offering a convenient spot to place keys, mail, or decorative pieces like a vase or framed photo. Choose one with drawers or baskets to tuck away clutter. You can also add a shoe drawer to tuck your footwear safely away.A coat rack or wall-mounted hooks can keep jackets, hats, and scarves neatly organized. This way, theyre ready for guests to take at the end of the evening or to pop on as you run out the door quickly.Enhance with Textures and TextilesNever underestimate the magic of strategically placed cushions or a comfy throw blanket on that little bench. These simple items can add a hint of warmth and plenty of character to your home. Depending on the look youre after, you can go for bold patterns or soft neutrals and really let your personality shine through. For larger entryways, curtains or sheers can be used to frame windows and soften the space, blocking out the harsh sunlight at different times of the day. Remember to play around with textures, pairing that smooth table with a chunky knit rug or that silky cushion with a faux-fur throw.Inject Charm with Greenery and Blooms Jan Canty via Unsplash Sonnie Hiles via UnsplashTheres no better way to breathe life into a small space than with greenery. Thats right, bring the outside in. Your entryway is ideal for this, as it sets the tone for the rest of your home. Not big on keeping plants alive? Consider indoor plants like snake plants, peace lilies, or pothos. Theyre nice and easy to take care of. If you want to make a bold statement (and have the space), a large fiddle-leaf fig or monstera placed in the corner can significantly impact you.Fresh blooms can add a burst of color and lift the mood. You can either go fresh and arrange flowers in a sleek vase on your table or opt for dried floral arrangements that can deliver the same look without the upkeep.Illuminate with Stylish LightingProper lighting can set the tone for your entryway, creating a warm and inviting welcome for anyone who walks through the door. Start with a statement pendant light or chandelier to draw the eye up while adding a touch of elegance. In a smaller space, wall sconces work well, providing soft, diffused light.Add depth by layering your lights. Combine overhead lights with a table lamp for a softer glow, or use spotlights to highlight particular decor or artwork. Dimmer switches and bulbs are also a great addition, allowing you to adjust the intensity of the light throughout the day. Use warm light bulbs for a soft, cosy glow, or cooler lights for a modern vibe.Invite Personality with Colour and ArtYour entryway is the perfect place to inject a hint of personality, no matter whether youre a fan of bold statements or subtle accents. By blending color and art, you can create an entryway that truly reflects your style while welcoming guests with a burst of personality.Color is one of the best places to start. An accent wall in a bold shade can create a dramatic focal point, while softer pastels can create a sense of calm. For a touch of texture, go for decorative wallpaper to add a layer of interest.Artwork and family photos are great ways to add that personal touch. Hang a large statement piece or curate a gallery wall of all your favourites. Use the frame colors and styles to complement your overall decor.A welcoming entryway is the first glimpse of your homes personality and style. From selecting the right flooring and furniture to adding greenery, art, and layered lighting, each detail adds to the overall charm and functionality of the space. With a little effort, your entryway can make a lasting first impression.Interior DesignTips by ArchEyes StaffLeave a comment

  • China Sets 2025 GDP Growth Target At Around 5% Amid Major Challenges
    www.forbes.com
Chinese Premier Li Qiang, on screen, speaks at the opening session of the National People's Congress at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Wednesday.AP Photo/Andy WongChina set its economic growth target at around 5% for 2025, the same as last year and in line with market expectations. But reaching it may be difficult amid an escalating trade war with the U.S. and anemic consumption at home.Chinese Premier Li Qiang announced the gross domestic product (GDP) growth target on Wednesday in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Thousands of delegates are gathering this week in the Chinese capital for the National Peoples Congress, the countrys top legislative meeting, including government officials and business heavyweights. The 2025 target underscores Chinas determination to face difficulties and tackle challenges, Li said while delivering the annual work report from the government. The fiscal deficit was set at 4% of GDP, up from 3% in 2024, which suggests increased government borrowing and spending. The policy focus will be on boosting domestic consumption and improving peoples livelihoods, according to Li.But this years growth target will not be easily achievable, Alicia Garcia Herrero, a Hong Kong-based chief Asia Pacific economist for French investment bank Natixis, says by WeChat. Exports, a pillar of economic growth, will be pressured by a tit-for-tat trade war with the Donald Trump administration.Just one day before Lis speech, the U.S. doubled tariffs on all Chinese imports to 20% from 10%. Officials in Beijing retaliated with up to 15% additional tariffs on certain U.S. goods such as chicken and wheat.China is likely to absorb part of the increased U.S. duties by lowering prices of certain locally produced goods, Herrero predicts. This is shown in this years lowered consumer price inflation target of around 2%a change from the longstanding 3% annual inflation goal.As the trade war escalates, officials want to boost growth through domestic stimulation measures such as cutting interest rates and banks reserve requirements, which will help push more money into the broader economy, according to Lis report. He also pledged to support the development of the property market, as a prolonged real estate downturn has been squeezing household wealth and curbing spending.Chinese officials havent announced more detailed measures yet. Investors are also wondering how Beijing will be supporting the development of artificial intelligence (AI) to boost growth, Charu Chanana, Singapore-based chief investment strategist at Saxo Bank, says by email.A focus on private innovation could further lend a boost, as this will be a turnaround from Chinas recent SOE [state-owned enterprises] focus, she says.In February, President Xi Jinping met the country's top private-sector tycoons including Alibaba cofounder Jack Ma, meant to send a signal of support for them. But economic growth could slow to around 4.2% this year, Harry Murphy Cruise, a Canberra, Australia-based economist at research firm Moodys Analytics, wrote in a March 3 note published before Lis speech. In the note, he predicted the same growth target as last year. That's a tough goal, he wrote. Chinas economy is being squeezed on all sides. U.S. tariffs will smash exports, and subdued household spending and a falling property market will hold back the domestic economy.

  • Threat posed by new VMware hyperjacking vulnerabilities is hard to overstate
    arstechnica.com
EXPLOITATION IN THE WILD LIKELY Threat posed by new VMware hyperjacking vulnerabilities is hard to overstate Just one compromised VM can make all other VMs on that hypervisor sitting ducks. Dan Goodin Mar 4, 2025 4:33 pm | 16 Credit: Getty Images Credit: Getty Images Story textSizeSmallStandardLargeWidth *StandardWideLinksStandardOrange* Subscribers only Learn moreThree critical vulnerabilities in multiple virtual-machine products from VMware can give hackers unusually broad access to some of the most sensitive environments inside multiple customers networks, the company and outside researchers warned Tuesday. The class of attack made possible by exploiting the vulnerabilities is known under several names, including hyperjacking, hypervisor attack, or virtual machine escape. Virtual machines often run inside hosting environments to prevent one customer from being able to access or control the resources of other customers. By breaking out of one customers isolated VM environment, a threat actor could take control of the hypervisor that apportions each VM. From there, the attacker could access the VMs of multiple customers, who often use these carefully controlled environments to host their internal networks. All bets offIf you can escape to the hypervisor you can access every system, security researcher Kevin Beaumont said on Mastodon. If you can escape to the hypervisor, all bets are off as a boundary is broken. He added: With this vuln youd be able to use it to traverse VMware managed hosting providers, private clouds orgs have built on prem etc.VMware warned Tuesday that it has evidence suggesting the vulnerabilities are already under active exploitation in the wild. The company didn't elaborate. Beaumont said the vulnerabilities affect every supported (and unsupported) version in VMwares ESXi, Workstation, Fusion, Cloud Foundation, and Telco Cloud Platform product lines. The vulnerabilities are:CVE-2025-22224, a heap overflow in the Virtual Machine Communication Interface, with a severity rating of 9.3 out of a possible 10CVE-2025-22225, an arbitrary write vulnerability, with a severity of 8.2CVE-2025-22226, an information-disclosure vulnerability in the host-guest file system, with a severity of 7.1The VMware advisory didnt classify the vulnerabilities as being remotely exploitable, a condition that would have raised the already high severity ratings. Beaumont and others, however, said that that distinction could be misleading because you don't need to be locally at a VM to do the attack, you can do it over the internet if you have access to any VM. In other words, if any customer with a VM inside a vulnerable hosting environment is compromised, an attacker might be able to take control of the host environment hypervisor.Given hypervisors will often have multiple customers/projects/security zones on, this class of vulnerability is very bad news, one Mastodon user wrote. A customer doing a bad job of securing just one VM puts every other VM on that hypervisor at risk as long as there is a VM escape vuln in the hypervisor. All three vulnerabilities were reported to Broadcom by Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center. The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has already added all three to its list of Known Exploited Vulnerabilities. The exploitation of vulnerabilities in virtual machine software has been one of the most common ways threat actors working for both nation-states and crime syndicates have gained entry into some of the worlds most sensitive networks. Any organization that relies on any of the affected products should investigate thoroughly and ensure their networks are safe from this threat.Dan GoodinSenior Security EditorDan GoodinSenior Security Editor Dan Goodin is Senior Security Editor at Ars Technica, where he oversees coverage of malware, computer espionage, botnets, hardware hacking, encryption, and passwords. • 'It's worth it': Rep. Al Green gets tossed out of Trump's speech to Congress over Medicaid protest

Al Green heckled Trump's joint address on Tuesday night. The Texas Democrat was eventually booted on the orders of Speaker Mike Johnson.Green later told reporters it was "worth it."For the first time in recent memory, a lawmaker was thrown out of the House chamber during a president's address to a joint session of Congress. It began mere minutes into President Donald Trump's speech on Tuesday night, when the president spoke about the "mandate" that he'd earned by virtue of his victory in the 2024 election.Rep. Al Green, a Texas Democrat known for making theatrical gestures, stood up and began heckling Trump, telling him that he had "no mandate" to make cuts to Medicaid.Democrats have accused Trump and Republicans of pushing for cuts to the program, which serves lower-income Americans, by virtue of a budget resolution that passed the House last week.Green's heckling was immediately met with shouting from the Republican side of the aisle, with GOP lawmakers telling the Texas Democrat to sit down and shut up. But Green persisted, eventually leading House Speaker Mike Johnson to direct the House Sergeant at Arms to escort the congressman out of the chamber."It's worth it to let people know that there are some people who are going to stand up" to Trump, Green told reporters outside the chamber. He added that he was unsure if he'd face any formal punishment. The Texas Democrat announced last month that he would introduce articles of impeachment against Trump, despite a lack of support from the recent of his caucus. He made a similar move during the president's first term in office, even forcing three different votes on his impeachment resolution in 2017, 2018, and 2019.Republican lawmakers such as Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Lauren Boebert of Colorado frequently heckled former President Joe Biden's State of the Union addresses, but they were never removed from the chamber.
