  • M3 Ultra on par with M4 Max in CPU performance based on benchmark test
    9to5mac.com
Apple this week announced a new generation of Mac Studio, and surprisingly it is available with two different chip families: M3 Ultra and M4 Max. While the company claims that the M3 Ultra is up to twice as fast as the M4 Max in some workloads, benchmark tests show that there isnt a huge difference between the CPU of the two chips.M3 Ultra is not that much faster than M4 Max when it comes to CPUA recent Geekbench 6 test run on the new Mac Studio equipped with the high-end version of the M3 Ultra chip gives us an idea of what to expect from the most powerful chip ever designed by Apple. With a 32-core CPU, M3 Ultra scored 3221 in single-core and 27749 in multi-core. While the numbers are impressive, theyre not exactly much higher than the score obtained by the M4 Max chip in the Geekbench test. For comparison, the high-end version of the M4 Max chip with a 16-core CPU scored 3921 in single-core and 25650 in multi-core. This means that the M4 Max has faster CPU cores than the M3 Ultra, although the Ultra chip wins in the multi-core comparison by a difference of just 8%.Of course, theres a lot to keep in mind when it comes to these tests. First, its worth noting that the M3 series of chips is based on the first generation of the 3 nanometer architecture (the same as the A17 Pro chip) made by TSMC, which is less efficient than the second generation introduced with the M4 and A18 chips. This is probably why the M3 Ultra has a lower single-core performance than the M4 Max.Secondly, this test only measures CPU performance. While the M4 Max chip can only be configured with a GPU of up to 40 cores, the M3 Ultra is available with a GPU of up to 80 cores. Its very likely that the difference in performance will be enormous when it comes to graphics-intensive tasks. The M3 Ultra also has higher memory bandwidth (800GB/s vs. 500GB/s).What does all this mean for customers? Users who need a fast computer for tasks that dont rely so heavily on the GPU can buy the M4 Max Mac Studio (which starts at $1,999) and still get CPU performance similar to that of the more expensive M3 Ultra version, which starts at $3,999.As for why Apple chose to launch an M3 Ultra chip instead of the M4 Ultra, some believe that Apple is saving the Ultra variant of the M4 series for a new generation of the Mac Pro, to further differentiate it from the Mac Studio. The new Mac Studio is now available for pre-order with the official launch set for March 12.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Safe{Wallet} Confirms North Korean TraderTraitor Hackers Stole $1.5 Billion in Bybit Heist
    thehackernews.com
Mar 07, 2025Ravie LakshmananSecurity Breach / CryptocurrencySafe{Wallet} has revealed that the cybersecurity incident that led to the Bybit $1.5 billion crypto heist is a "highly sophisticated, state-sponsored attack," stating the North Korean threat actors behind the hack took steps to erase traces of the malicious activity in an effort to hamper investigation efforts. The multi-signature (multisig) platform, which has roped in Google Cloud Mandiant to perform a forensic investigation, said the attack is the work of a hacking group dubbed TraderTraitor, which is also known as Jade Sleet, PUKCHONG, and UNC4899."The attack involved the compromise of a Safe{Wallet} developer's laptop ('Developer1') and the hijacking of AWS session tokens to bypass multi-factor authentication ('MFA') controls," it said. "This developer was one of the very few personnel that had higher access in order to perform their duties."Further analysis has determined that the threat actors broke into the developer's Apple macOS machine on February 4, 2025, when the individual downloaded a Docker project named "MC-Based-Stock-Invest-Simulator-main" likely via a social engineering attack. The project communicated with a domain "getstockprice[.]com" that was registered on Namecheap two days before. This is prior evidence indicating that the TraderTraitor actors have tricked cryptocurrency exchange developers into helping troubleshoot a Docker project after approaching them via Telegram. The Docker project is configured to drop a next-stage payload named PLOTTWIST that enables persistent remote access. It's not clear if the same modus operandi was employed in the latest attacks, as Safe{Wallet} said "the attacker removed their malware and cleared Bash history in an effort to thwart investigative efforts."Ultimately, the malware deployed to the workstation is said to have been utilized to conduct reconnaissance of the company's Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment and hijack active AWS user sessions to perform their own actions aligning with the developer's schedule in an attempt to fly under the radar."The attacker use of Developer1's AWS account originated from ExpressVPN IP addresses with User-Agent strings containing distrib#kali.2024," it said. "This User-Agent string indicates use of Kali Linux which is designed for offensive security practitioners."The attackers have also been observed deploying the open-source Mythic framework, as well as injecting malicious JavaScript code to the Safe{Wallet} website for a two-day period between February 19 and 21, 2025.Bybit CEO Ben Zhou, in an update shared earlier this week, said over 77% of the stolen funds remain traceable, and that 20% have gone dark and 3% have been frozen. It credited 11 parties, including Mantle, Paraswap, and ZachXBT, for helping it freeze the assets. About 83% (417,348 ETH) has been converted into bitcoin, distributing it across 6,954 wallets. In the wake of the hack, 2025 is on track for a record year for cryptocurrency heists, with Web3 projects already losing a staggering $1.6 billion in the first two months alone, an 8x increase from the $200 million this time last year, according to data from blockchain security platform Immunefi."The recent attack underscores the evolving sophistication of threat actors and highlights critical vulnerabilities in Web3 security," the company said.""Verifying that the transaction you are signing will result in the intended outcome remains one of the biggest security challenges in Web3, and this is not just a user and education problem it is an industry-wide issue that demands collective action."Found this article interesting? • PHP-CGI RCE Flaw Exploited in Attacks on Japan's Tech, Telecom, and E-Commerce Sectors
    thehackernews.com
Mar 07, 2025Ravie LakshmananThreat Intelligence /VulnerabilityThreat actors of unknown provenance have been attributed to a malicious campaign predominantly targeting organizations in Japan since January 2025."The attacker has exploited the vulnerability CVE-2024-4577, a remote code execution (RCE) flaw in the PHP-CGI implementation of PHP on Windows, to gain initial access to victim machines," Cisco Talos researcher Chetan Raghuprasad said in a technical report published Thursday."The attacker utilizes plugins of the publicly available Cobalt Strike kit 'TaoWu' for-post exploitation activities."Targets of the malicious activity encompass companies across technology, telecommunications, entertainment, education, and e-commerce sectors in Japan. It all starts with the threat actors exploiting the CVE-2024-4577 vulnerability to gain initial access and run PowerShell scripts to execute the Cobalt Strike reverse HTTP shellcode payload to grant themselves persistent remote access to the compromised endpoint. The next step entails carrying out reconnaissance, privilege escalation, and lateral movement using tools like JuicyPotato, RottenPotato, SweetPotato, Fscan, and Seatbelt. Additional persistence is established via Windows Registry modifications, scheduled tasks, and bespoke services using the plugins of the Cobalt Strike kit called TaoWu."To maintain stealth, they erase event logs using wevtutil commands, removing traces of their actions from the Windows security, system, and application logs," Raghuprasad noted. "Eventually, they execute Mimikatz commands to dump and exfiltrate passwords and NTLM hashes from memory on the victim's machine."The attacks culminate with the hacking crew stealing passwords and NTLM hashes from the infected hosts. Further analysis of the command-and-control (C2) servers associated with the Cobalt Strike tool has revealed that the threat actor left the directory listings accessible over the internet, thereby exposing the full suite of adversarial tools and frameworks hosted on the Alibaba cloud servers.Notable among the tools are listed below -Browser Exploitation Framework (BeEF), a publicly available pentesting software for executing commands within the browser contextViper C2, a modular C2 framework that facilitates remote command execution and generation of Meterpreter reverse shell payloadsBlue-Lotus, a JavaScript webshell cross-site scripting (XSS) attack framework that enables the creation of JavaScript web shell payloads to conduct XSS attacks, capture screenshots, obtain reverse shell, steal browser cookies, and create new accounts in the Content Management System (CMS)"We assess with moderate confidence that the attacker's motive extends beyond just credential harvesting, based on our observation of other post-exploitation activities, such as establishing persistence, elevating to SYSTEM level privilege, and potential access to adversarial frameworks, indicating the likelihood of future attacks," Raghuprasad said.Found this article interesting? • Part W launches campaign to highlight gendered barriers in the built environment
    www.bdonline.co.uk
Source: ShutterstockA new campaign by action group Part W, Built Barriers, seeks to document instances where design decisions create obstacles to accessibility and safety, particularly for women.Built Barriers aims to create a visual archive of obstacles encountered in everyday spaces, from missing lifts that hinder pram users to poorly lit public areas that raise safety concerns. It is being launched tomorrow, on International Womens Day, 8 March, with an initial phase focusing on the collection of visual evidence from members of the public and built environment professionals. To participate, individuals are invited to document design barriers they encounter in the built environment by capturing a photo and sharing it on Instagram or LinkedIn, tagging @PartW and using the hashtag #BuiltBarriers. Alternatively, submissions can be sent via email to collective@part-w.com.Each entry should include a brief description of the barriers location and its impact on womens daily lives. Part W states that these contributions will help build an evidence base highlighting how design choices affect accessibility and safety, informing future phases of the campaign.Part W describes itself as an action group advocating for gender equity in design and the built environment. The groups previous initiatives have focused on raising the profile of women in architecture and urban planning, as well as challenging policies that it argues contribute to gender-based exclusion.>> Also read:Part W project puts women on the map>> Also read:The women airbrushed out of architectures history

  • I Got a Look at Samsung's New Affordable Galaxy A Phones at MWC 2025
    www.cnet.com
Samsung has debuted its latest midrange phones, the $500 Galaxy A56, $400 A36 and $300 A26. All three devices have larger displays, more powerful processors and, inevitably, new AI features. I got a first look at the phones during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and my first impression was that they felt impressively more premium than their sticker price, thanks to their bright displays, glass backing and use of Samsung's latest One UI 7. Watch this: Galaxy A Series First Look: Three New Phones Under $500 04:46 Arriving on the heels of the $599iPhone 16E, Apple's idea of an affordable phone that'sfar from cheap, all three new Samsung Galaxy A phones seem to prove a phone-maker can still make a cheap phonethat's truly affordable and flexes new features likeAndroid 15and Google's Circle to Search tool. All the phones are built to last you a while, with six years of OS and security updates, Samsung's Knox Vault for device security and privacy and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Here's everything to know about the Galaxy A36, A26 and A56.Read more: MWC 2025: All the Phones, Wearables, Robots and AI Live From BarcelonaSamsung Galaxy A36: $400 The Galaxy A36 5G costs $400. SamsungAt 8.2mm thick and 196 grams, the Galaxy A36 5G is thinner and lighter than last year's Galaxy A35 5G, which was 7.4mm thick and weighed 209 grams. Like last year, the phone packs a 5,000-mAh battery but now features 45-watt super fast charging, which Samsung says can charge the phone nearly 70% in 30 minutes. (CNET will test this once we get the devices in for review, so stay tuned.)Thinner bezels bump the display to 6.7 inches, compared to the A35's 6.6 inches. The A36 features a 120Hz refresh rate, and an increased peak brightness of 1,900 nits, ideally making it easier to see the screen even if you're in a brightly lit environment. Both the front and back feature Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus Plus, which Samsung says improves durability. The company says they're all "FHD+" resolution, which usually means 2,220x1,080 pixels. In person, the display looked nice and bright, and the bezels are still pretty noticeable, but not obtrusive. There's just enough heft to the phone to help it feel more premium than its price suggests, but it's still lightweight altogether.Cameras get an upgrade, too, with support for HDR video recording on the 50-megapixel main camera. Like last year's phone, the A36 also features an 8-megapixel ultrawide and 5-megapixel macro camera. The front camera goes from 13 to 12 megapixels, but supports 10-bit HDR video recording. It's worth noting that more megapixels doesn't automatically mean a better camera.HDR support can help images and videos have a wider dynamic range (the difference between the brightest parts of an image and the darkest parts) and look more detailed and colorful. For nighttime shots, Samsung says larger pixels serve up sharper, more vibrant images with minimal noise, even in extremely low light -- larger pixels can gather more light and have less image noise. Stay tuned to CNET's tests to see how the camera performs. The Galaxy A36 5G runs Android 15 and One UI 7. SamsungYou'll find AI features on the A36 like Google's Circle to Search, which can now also translate on-screen text and identify music. Samsung debuted these new capabilities on its flagship Galaxy S25 lineup in January. AI-powered photo editing tools include an enhanced Object Eraser that now lets you select multiple objects to be removed, and a Filter feature that lets you create a custom filter based on any photo. For example, if you have a shot of a sunset and you like the tone of the image, you can apply that filter to other photos, too. Edit Suggestion will use AI to analyze an image and serve up recommendations to improve it, like removing shadows or reflections. The A36 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, versus the Exynos 1380 featured on the Galaxy A35. It has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Samsung says there's also a larger cooling system to better dissipate heat and optimize for gameplay and streaming. The Galaxy A36 will be available on March 26 in black and lavender. An exclusive lime version is also available through Best Buy.Read more: Best Android Phone for 2025Samsung Galaxy A26: $300 The Galaxy A26 5H costs $300. SamsungThe (even cheaper) Galaxy A26 is also thinner than its predecessor, measuring at 7.7mm compared to the Galaxy A25's 8.3mm. It also gets a bigger FHD+ display, thanks to reduced bezels, matching the A36's 6.5 inches. It shares a 120Hz refresh rate. The bezels on the A36 are more obvious than on the A26 and A56, especially along the bottom of the phone and around the camera. The display is also a bit dimmer. While last year's A25 featured a glass front and plastic back, the A26 steps things up with Gorilla Glass Victus Plus on both the front and back, just like the A36. The frame remains plastic. Despite the upgrade to a glass backing, the A26 doesn't have the same premium, heftier feel in hand as the A36 and A56. But it has a smooth interface and is highly responsive, just like its A series sisters.Like last year's model, the A26 features a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and 2-megapixel macro camera, as well as a 13-megapixel selfie camera. The Galaxy A26 5G is the cheapest of the three new A series phones from Samsung. SamsungDespite the lower price, you'll still get AI features like Photo Edit Suggestion and Object Eraser, as well as Circle to Search. The A26 runs the Exynos 1380 chipset, and comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It also has expandable memory up to 2TB, and packs a 5,000 mAh battery. The A26 will become available March 28, and is only available in black.Read more:These Are the Best Camera Phones for 2025 For 2025, the Galaxy A series has three models: the Galaxy A36 (left), the Galaxy A26 (right) and the Galaxy A56 (not pictured). SamsungSamsung Galaxy A56: $500To complete the trio, the Galaxy A56 has a 6.7-inch display and a 5,000 mAh battery, which, like the A36, supports 45-watt charging. The A56 is powered by the Exynos 1580 chipset and also has a larger vapor chamber to help you play games and watch videos for longer. The A56 has a 50-megapixel wide camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 5-megapixel macro camera. The selfie camera has a 12-megapixel sensor compared to the Galaxy A55's 32-megapixel front-facing camera, which took either 12- or 8-megapixel images after pixel binning. The selfie camera also gets 10-bit HDR support, and a Low Noise Mode helps to take sharper low-light photos, Samsung says.A feature only available on the A56 is called Best Face, which can help you nail a group photo by choosing the best expressions on up to five people and then combining them into one image. This is similar -- in name and in execution -- to Google's Best Take feature on the Pixel series. The A56 also gets an enhanced Object Eraser and Filter capabilities.Samsung hasn't yet shared color options for the A56, but the version I got a quick look at was white. It feels similar to the A36 in terms of weight, thickness and feel, and the screen brightness is also comparable. The A56 will be available later this year.Samsung Galaxy A series comparisonSamsung Galaxy A56, A36 and A26 specs Samsung Galaxy A56 5GSamsung Galaxy A36 5GSamsung Galaxy A26 5G Display size, tech, resolution, refresh rate 6.7-inch AMOLED; FHD+; 120Hz refresh rate6.7-inch AMOLED; FHD+; 120Hz refresh rate6.7-inch AMOLED; FHD+; 120Hz refresh ratePixel density TBDTBDTBDDimensions (inches) 6.39 x 3.05 x 0.29 in6.41 x 3.08 x 0.29 in6.46 x 3.05 x 0.3o inDimensions (millimeters) 162.2 x 77.5 x 7.4 mm162.9 x 78.2 x 7.4 mm164 x 77.5 x 7.7 mmWeight (grams, ounces) 198g (6.94 oz.)195g (6.89 oz.)200g (7.05 oz.)Mobile software Android 15Android 15Android 15Camera 50-megapixel (wide), 12-megapixel (ultrawide), 5-megapixel (macro)50-megapixel (wide), 8-megapixel (ultrawide), 5-megapixel (macro)50-megapixel (wide), 8-megapixel (ultrawide), 2-megapixel (macro)Front-facing camera 12-megapixel12-megapixel13-megapixelVideo capture TBDTBDTBDProcessor Exynos 1580Snapdragon 6 Gen 3Exynos 1380RAM + storage 8GB + 128GB6GB + 128GB6GB + 128GBExpandable storage NoneNoneNoneBattery 5,000 mAh5,000 mAh5,000 mAhFingerprint sensor TBDTBDTBDConnector USB-CUSB-CUSB-CHeadphone jack NoneNoneNoneSpecial features Galaxy AI, OneUI 7, Circle To Search, Best Face, Object Eraser, 6 generations of Andoid OS, 6 years of software and security support, IP67 water and dust resistance, 10-bit HDR recording, 1,200 nits peak brightnessGalaxy AI, OneUI 7, Circle To Search, Object Eraser, 6 generations of Andoid OS, 6 years of software and security support, IP67 water and dust resistance, 10-bit HDR recording, 1,900 nits peak brightness, Gorilla Glass Victus PlusGalaxy AI, OneUI 7, Circle To Search, Object Eraser, 6 generations of Android OS, 6 years of software and security support, IP67 water and dust resistance, 10-bit HDR recording, Gorilla Glass Victus PlusUS price starts at $500 (128GB)$400 (128GB)$300 (128GB)UK price starts at Converts to 400Converts to 320Converts to 240Australia price starts at Converts to AU$805Converts to AU$645Converts to AU$485

  • Trump Calls On Congress To Pass The Take It Down ActSo He Can Censor His Critics
    www.eff.org
We've opposed the Take It Down Act because it could be easily manipulated to take down lawful content that powerful people simply don't like. Last night, President Trump demonstrated he has a similar view on the bill. He wants to sign the bill into law, then use it to remove content about him. And he won't be the only powerful person to do so.Heres what Trump said to a joint session of Congress: The Senate just passed the Take It Down Act. Once it passes the House, I look forward to signing that bill into law. And Im going to use that bill for myself too if you dont mind, because nobody gets treated worse than I do online, nobody.%3Ciframe%20src%3D%22https%3A%2F%2Farchive.org%2Fembed%2Ftrump-take-it-down-act-cspan%22%20webkitallowfullscreen%3D%22true%22%20mozallowfullscreen%3D%22true%22%20allowfullscreen%3D%22%22%20width%3D%22560%22%20height%3D%22384%22%20frameborder%3D%220%22%20allow%3D%22autoplay%22%3E%3C%2Fiframe%3EPrivacy info. This embed will serve content from archive.orgVideo courtesy C-SPAN.The Take It Down Act is an overbroad, poorly drafted bill that would create a powerful system to pressure removal of internet posts, with essentially no safeguards. While the bill is meant to address a serious problemthe distribution of non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII)the notice-and-takedown system it creates is an open invitation for powerful people to pressure websites into removing content they dislike. There are no penalties for applying very broad, or even farcical definitions of what constitutes NCII, and then demanding that it be removed. take actionTELL CONGRESS: "Take It Down" Has No real SafeguardsThis Bill Will Punish Critics, and The President Wants It Passed Right NowCongress should believe Trump when he says he would use the Take It Down Act simply because he's "treated badly," despite the fact that this is not the intention of the bill. There is nothing in the law, as written, to stop anyoneespecially those with significant resourcesfrom misusing the notice-and-takedown system to remove speech that criticizes them or that they disagree with. Trump has frequently targeted platforms carrying content and speakers of entirely legal speech that is critical of him, both as an elected official and as a private citizen. He has filed frivolous lawsuits against media defendants which threaten to silence critics and draw scarce resources away from important reporting work. Now that Trump issued a call to action for the bill in his remarks, there is a possibility that House Republicans will fast track the bill into a spending package as soon as next week. Non-consensual intimate imagery is a serious problem that deserves serious consideration, not a hastily drafted, overbroad bill that sweeps in legal, protected speech. How The Take It Down Act Could Silence PeopleA few weeks ago, a "deepfake" video of President Trump and Elon Musk was displayed across various monitors in the Housing and Urban Development office. The video was subsequently shared on various platforms. While most people wouldn't consider this video, which displayed faked footage of Trump kissing Elon Musk's feet, "nonconsensual intimate imagery," the takedown provision of the bill applies to an identifiable individual engaged in sexually explicit conduct. This definition leaves much room for interpretation, and nudity or graphic displays are not necessarily required. Moreover, there are no penalties whatsoever to dissuade a requester from simply insisting that content is NCII. Apps and websites only have 48 hours to remove content once they receive a request, which means they wont be able to verify claims. Especially if the requester is an elected official with the power to start an investigation or prosecution, what website would stand up to such a request? The House Must Not Pass This Dangerous BillCongress should focus on enforcing and improving the many existing civil and criminal laws that address NCII, rather than opting for a broad takedown regime that is bound to be abused. Take It Down would likely lead to the use of often-inaccurate automated filters that are infamous for flagging legal content, from fair-use commentary to news reporting. It will threaten encrypted services, which may respond by abandoning encryption entirely in order to be able to monitor contentturning private conversations into surveilled spaces.Protecting victims of NCII is a legitimate goal. But good intentions alone are not enough to make good policy. Tell your Member of Congress to oppose censorship and to oppose H.R.633.take actionTell the house to stop "Take it down"

I was wondering what to do here to fix the jitter - its just a simple system to render a static mesh, attached to a skeletal mesh. When the character is stationary, theres no jitter, but when theres movement or rotation, the renderer jitters like crazy. What can i do here? If its not obvious, the system is on the left shoulder in the pic
