A recess in the faade extends through the full height of the tower, positioned in alignment with Gadigal Stations Park Street entrance to create a visual link between the two parts of the development. The primary tower elevation faces south, which in the Southern Hemisphere receives limited solar exposure, while the east and west faades incorporate shading devices and raised sills intended to minimise heat gain.Source: Aaron Hargreaves / Foster + PartnersAt ground-level a glass canopy at the station entrance allows daylight to reach the concourse. The separate office lobby on Pitt Street includes a triple-height volume leading to the main commercial reception area. The podium has been designed in response to the scale of two adjacent heritage buildings on Pitt and Castlereagh Streets, with sandstone and bronze elements intended to provide a material connection to the surrounding urban context. The commercial floors provide workspace with social hubs, breakout spaces, and client meeting areas. Two lift banks have uninterrupted views of Sydney Harbour and surrounding parkland. The development has achieved WELL Platinum and Green Star 6-Star ratings. The completion of Parkline Place marks the latest phase in the Sydney Metro City & Southwest programme, which includes multiple new and upgraded stations across the city.>> Also read:Local expertise, global vision: Foster + Partners work in South AmericaProject team:Client:Oxford Properties Group, Mitsubishi Estate Asia and InvestaDesign architect:Foster + PartnersEexecutive architect:COX ArchitectureStructural engineer:AureconContractor:CPBMechanical and electrical engineer:LCI

  • 15 Mind-Blowing AI Statistics Everyone Must Know About Now
    www.forbes.com
AI investment is skyrocketing, with tech giants pouring billions into development while 97% of ... [+] business leaders report positive ROI from their AI initiatives.Adobe StockAI is still the hottest tech story of the decade, but how big is it exactly, and where is it headed? As it continues to reshape business, work and everyday life, new breakthroughs such as generative language models and reasoning capabilities have accelerated adoption as new use cases are discovered. These are some of the most significant statistics of today, revealing the real-world impact of the ongoing intelligence revolution.34 million AI-Generated Images Created DailyUsing one of over 2,000 AI image generation tools available online. This staggering daily output represents a fundamental shift in visual content creation, with businesses and individuals increasingly relying on AI to produce everything from marketing materials to conceptual designs without traditional creative constraints or costs.71% Of Social Media Images Now AI-GeneratedThis probably wont be a surprise for anyone who has looked at their social media feed recently. The dominance of AI-generated imagery has transformed social platforms into showcases for synthetic creativity. The exciting part is that it continues to dramatically lower barriers to visual content creation for brands and influencers alike, but, of course, it also raises important questions about authenticity in digital spaces.Deepfake Fraud Attempts Surge To 6.5% WorldwideThis is a huge increase from 0.01% in 2022 according to researchers, and puts deepfakes among the three most popular methods of fraud. This exponential growth in AI-powered deception represents one of the most concerning downsides of advancing AI capabilities, forcing organizations to invest heavily in detection technologies and authentication methods to protect both systems and consumers.Tech Giants Investing $320 Billion In AI Development For 2025Staying at the front of this race is still the top priority for Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Meta. This unprecedented level of investmentlarger than the GDP of many countriesunderscores just how existential the AI race has become for major tech players, who view dominance in this space as key to their future market position and revenue growth across virtually all business lines.Global AI Services Market To Reach $243 Billion This YearIncreasing at a compound annual growth rate of 28% to reach a value of $826.7 billion by 2030. This explosive growth reflects the transition of AI from experimental technology to business necessity, with companies worldwide seeking expertise to implement and optimize AI solutions that deliver competitive advantages and operational efficiencies.97% Of Leaders Investing In AI Report Positive Return On InvestmentThose who have put time and investment into leveraging AI are seeing results. This remarkably high satisfaction rate helps explain the accelerating pace of adoption, as early successes drive confidence for expanded implementation. However, I would question this number a little, as I see lots of companies struggling to fully scale AI, which is where the real ROI comes from.25% Of Enterprises Will Deploy AI Agents This YearEnthusiasm for the latest, most capable AI tools designed to carry out complex, multi-step tasks is highest among enterprise users. This shift toward autonomous AI agents marks a significant evolution beyond simple task automation, with leading organizations now entrusting AI systems to handle sophisticated workflows that require reasoning, planning, and adaptive decision-making across various business processes.Healthcare AI Market Valued At $38.7 Billion, Doubling Since 2023More than doubling its value from 2023, this reflects the huge opportunities of AI in healthcare. From drug discovery and clinical decision support to personalized treatment planning and administrative efficiency, healthcare has emerged as one of AIs most promising and impactful application domains, with potential benefits for providers, patients, and healthcare systems alike.Adoption Gap: 81% Of Workers Still Not Using AI ToolsThis indicates that while industries are speedily adopting AI, theyre still not getting it into the hands of the majority of the workforce. Persuading them to change this habit is a priority for enterprise AI vendors. This adoption gap represents both a challenge and a massive opportunity for organizations, which must overcome technical barriers, skills deficits, trust issues, and change resistance to unlock productivity gains that early AI users are already experiencing.Trust Divide: AI Acceptance High In India (77%) and China (72%), Low In America ((32%)A global study by Axios highlights significant differences in how the public feels about trusting AI technology. Trust is widely seen as necessary for adoption. These stark regional disparities in AI trust could have profound implications for global competitiveness, with higher-trust regions potentially enjoying accelerated adoption curves, greater workforce acceptance, and more permissive regulatory environments than their lower-trust counterparts.AI Influencer Economy Approaching $7 Billion ValuationBrands are increasingly turning to generative AI to connect with digital-native Gen Z consumers. This rapidly growing market segment represents a fundamental shift in how brands engage with younger audiences, offering unprecedented control over messaging, appearance, and engagement while eliminating the unpredictability and controversy risks associated with human influencers.Data Centers To Consume 5% Of U.S. Power, Doubling By 2030This is projected to more than double, reaching 11% by 2030, with 20% of that accounted for by AI. This increases the urgency of making data centers more energy efficient and finding cleaner ways to power them. AIs rapidly growing energy footprint represents one of the industry's most significant challenges as it is putting technological advancement at odds with environmental goals unless major breakthroughs in computing efficiency or energy generation occur.30% Of New Smartphones To Feature On-Device GenAIOn-board generative AI processing turns our handsets into edge AI devices that deliver faster, more personalized and more secure tools. This shift toward on-device AI computing promises to transform the mobile experience by enabling sophisticated AI capabilities without cloud dependencies, addressing both performance limitations and privacy concerns that have constrained previous mobile AI implementations.50% Of Companies That Use AI Incorporate Open-Source SolutionsEnterprise users are increasingly using open-source AI tools, which can reduce costs and access a community of developers and researchers. This substantial open-source adoption reflects growing confidence in community-driven AI development, as organizations seek to balance proprietary advantages with the accelerated innovation, customization flexibility, and talent accessibility that open ecosystems provide.Nearly Half Of Tech Leaders (49%) Say AI Is Now Fully Integrated Into Business StrategyThese are leaders at companies that are highly mature in their AI strategy. However, just 30% say it is fully integrated into operations. This gap between strategic intention and operational execution highlights one of the primary challenges in AI transformationtranslating high-level vision into a practical, organization-wide implementation that delivers consistent value across business units and functions. These statistics paint a clear picture: AI has moved beyond experimentation to become a defining force that is reshaping our economic and social landscapes. The staggering investment levels, impressive ROI reports, and accelerating adoption rates signal a technology crossing the threshold from emerging to essential. Yet significant challenges remainfrom closing the workforce adoption gap and addressing energy consumption concerns to building trust and ensuring responsible deployment. The AI revolution isnt comingits already here, rewarding early adopters while threatening to leave the hesitant behind. The question is no longer whether to embrace AI but how quickly and effectively organizations can harness its potential to secure their place in an increasingly AI-powered world.

  • Instagram May Launch Separate Reels App To Take On TikTok Report
    www.forbes.com
TikTok and Instagram logos are seen displayed on a phone screens in this illustration photo taken in ... [+] Krakow, Poland on November 14, 2019. (Photo by Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto via Getty Images)NurPhoto via Getty ImagesIn the dizzying arms race of social media, Instagram is reportedly considering an important move to gain an advantage: spinning off its short-form video feature, Reels, into a standalone app.According to The Information, Meta, Instagrams parent company, is exploring the idea of creating a dedicated platform for Reels, which would allow the company to enhance user experience and engagement while capitalizing on the uncertain future of TikTok in the U.S.The move if it comes to fruition would mark a significant shift in Metas strategy. Since its launch in 2020, Reels has been integrated and embedded into Instagram, serving as both a feature and a lifeline for the platform as it sought to retain users in an increasingly competitive and saturated space. But while Reels has seen moderate success, it has struggled to match TikToks cultural cachet and algorithmic precision. By launching a dedicated app for Reels, Meta may be seeking to offer a short video-watching experience similar to TikTok, which remains the dominant platform in this segment. A standalone app could give Reels the room to grow and focus on its own identity somewhat separate from Instagrams broader ecosystem.Reels was the code name at Instagram, but everyone was casually calling the product Stories, notes author Sarah Frier in her 2020 book No Filter: The Inside Story of Instagram. In a computer-filled conference room called Sharks at Work, with a glass garage door, [Instagram co-founder Kevin] Systrom and the others would spend hours drawing out various possible versions on whiteboards. They were mostly trying to decide what the simplest solution was.For example, during the conceptualization stage before Reels was introduced, the firm realized they didnt need to launch with the tools Snapchat had, like face masks that used image technology to let people digitally wear cartoon puppy ears or barf rainbows, writes Frier. They reasoned they could add that kind of thing later, she notes. In all of its Snapchat copycatting, Facebook was forced to learn, over and over, that just because it had made one world-changing product didnt mean it could succeed with another, even when that product was a replica of something already popular. The decision to potentially spin off Reels comes at a pivotal moment for Meta. TikTok, despite facing regulatory scrutiny and bans in some countries, continues to grow at an astonishing pace, with over a billion active users worldwide. Its algorithm, which serves up an endless stream of hyper-personalized content, has become the gold standard for social media engagement. Meanwhile, Instagram has faced criticism for its somewhat cluttered interface, with users often complaining that the platform has lost its original charm as a photo-sharing app.A standalone Reels app could address some of these issues by offering a more streamlined experience.Think about a platform where the entire interface is designed around and based on short-form video, with TikTok-like features such as a For You page, advanced editing tools, and seamless integration with music libraries. It could also open up new opportunities for creators, who have long complained about Instagrams opaque and controversial monetization policies. But success may be far from guaranteed. Meta has a mixed track record when it comes to spinning off features into separate apps.Remember IGTV? The standalone video app launched in 2018 with much fanfare but was quietly folded back into Instagram just a few years later. As part of our efforts to make video as simple as possible to discover and create, we will no longer be supporting our standalone app for IGTV, the company stated in a blog post. Instead, we will focus on having all video on the main Instagram app. We believe that this makes it easier for people to have all of these features and abilities in the main app, and are excited to continue to simplify and improve video in the main Instagram app over the coming months. And then came Threads Metas attempt to create a potential X, formerly known as Twitter, competitor which saw an initial surge in users but has since struggled to maintain momentum.Instagrams team is expert at amplifying the good, writes Frier. When it comes to addressing the bad though, employees are concerned the app is thinking in terms of numbers, not people.Facebooks top argument against a breakup is that its family of apps evolution will be better for users safety, Frier wrote. If you want to prevent interference in elections, if you want to reduce the spread of hate speech on the platforms, we benefit massively from working together closely, Frier quotes Instagram head Adam Mosseri as saying. But in practice, Instagram-specific problems get attention only after Facebooks headline issues are addressed first. For now, the standalone Reels app remains in the exploratory phase, and Meta has not confirmed any plans to move forward. But if the company does pull the trigger, it could signal a new chapter in the social media rivalry one where short-form video is no longer just a feature, but could become the main event.

Elon Musk said he doesn't plan to shut down Starlink's terminals in Ukraine."We would never do such a thing or use it as a bargaining chip," Musk said.SpaceX sent thousands of Starlink terminals to Ukraine during the early days of the war.Elon Musk said on Sunday that he will never turn off Starlink's terminals in Ukraine."To be extremely clear, no matter how much I disagree with the Ukraine policy, Starlink will never turn off its terminals," Musk wrote in an X post on Sunday."We would never do such a thing or use it as a bargaining chip," Musk added.Musk's remarks came after Poland's foreign minister, Radosaw Sikorski, wrote in an X post on Sunday that his country "will be forced to look for other suppliers" of satellite internet services if SpaceX "proves to be an unreliable provider."Poland was spending about $50 million a year on Starlink's services for Ukraine, Sikorski wrote."Be quiet, small man. You pay a tiny fraction of the cost. And there is no substitute for Starlink," Musk replied to Sikorski on Sunday.Sikorski's post also drew a response from Secretary of StateMarco Rubio, who said on Sunday that Sikorski was "just making things up.""No one has made any threats about cutting Ukraine off from Starlink. And say thank you because without Starlink Ukraine would have lost this war long ago and Russians would be on the border with Poland right now," Rubio wrote in an X post.Musk's position on UkraineMusk was initially supportive of Ukraine when it fought back against Russia in the early days of the war.In June 2022, Musk said SpaceX had delivered 15,000 Starlink terminals to Ukraine after Russia's invasion began in February that year.In 2022, Musk also challenged Russian leader Vladimir Putin to single combat over Ukraine and suggested the president could "bring his bear" to their man-on-man fight. But Musk's pro-Ukraine stance has shifted. In October 2022, he posted a peace plan to end the Ukraine war on X. 2025-03-10T05:59:54Z Read in app Palmer Luckey's Anduril has secured yet another major contract, this time worth $642 million with the US Marine Corps. PATRICK T. FALLON/AFP via Getty Images This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now.Have an account? Palmer Luckey's startup Anduril scored a $642 million deal for anti-drone tech in Marine Corps bases. The 10-year contract is meant to help fight smaller drones like the exploding ones in Ukraine. The Defense Department said Anduril was chosen out of 10 total bids.Defense startup Anduril clinched a $642 million contract on Friday to help the US Marine Corps fight smaller drones at its bases.Anduril's new deal is for the Marine Corps Installation-Counter small Unmanned Aircraft Systems program, which is essentially a network of anti-drone defenses for bases and facilities. The announcement comes after Anduril scored a separate five-year $200 million agreement in November to bring counter-drone tech to the Marine Air Defense Integrated System. This mobile air defense system can be mounted on vehicles like Humvees.Like with the MADIS, Anduril's offering for this new contract is to fight smaller drones, which the US military classifies as Group 1 and Group 2.Such drones are typically no heavier than 55 pounds and fly at a maximum altitude of about 3,500 feet, like the exploding commercial drones used in the war in Ukraine. When the Corps first opened its contract in April 2024,"The sUAS threat poses unique challenges to military installations when compared to those of operational forces," the Corps wrote. The Defense Department said on Friday that 10 companies had submitted proposals for the contract. With Anduril scoring the deal, the department said that 80% of the work until 2035 would be done in Costa Mesa, California, home to Anduril's headquarters. The rest is expected to be performed in Washington, D.C., and other Marine Corps facilities. Anduril is providing long-range recon drones called Ghosts to the US military. ARMIN WEIGEL/AFP via Getty Images The announcement did not specify what type of product or how many systems Anduril will deliver.Press teams for Anduril and the Marine Corps did not respond to requests for comment from Business Insider outside regular business hours. One of Anduril's main offerings for fighting smaller drones, Anvil, features a quadcopter that flies out from a portable storage box to track and crash into enemy systems. It can also be fitted with explosives to attack bigger targets.Additionally, the company sells electronic warfare jammers called Pulsar, which it's already providing to the Pentagon as part of a $250 million deal from October.Anduril, founded in 2017 by Oculus creator Palmer Luckey, has become a rising star in the defense industry as it emphasizes ready-made designs that can be produced at scale. In that sense, it hopes to reuse the same design to bid for multiple contracts instead of creating each one specifically for a single deal. The firm is also working with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and runs its products on an AI software called Lattice to survey the battlefield and identify threats. One of its biggest scores so far is a $22 billion contract with the US Army to provide soldiers with mixed-reality goggles. The contract was originally awarded to Microsoft but later ceded to Anduril. The firm hopes to expand quickly. In August, Anduril raised $1.5 billion to build a 5 million-square-footfactory in Ohio that it said would "hyperscale" production.
