• Panther Lake launch timeline looks clearer after first public showcase
    www.digitaltrends.com
Intels Panther Lake chip has now been showcased in public, with the tech brand putting it on display at the Embedded World 2025 conference in Nuremberg, Germany. The Dutch publication, PC Games Hardware shared images of the chip on display, noting that this is the first time the Panther Lake SoC has been seen publicly, not being held up by Intels former CEO Pat Gelsinger. With the company discussing more of its plans and timelines for the Panther Lake rollout in 2025 and beyond at the conference, more of the components release strategy has become a lot clearer.PCGHAlso referred to as the Core Ultra 300 mobile platform, Intel is banking on the Panther Lake being a powerful chip as it will be manufactured on the companys custom 18A process. Panther Lake follows the Core Ultra 100 Meteor Lake chip, which was released in 2023, and the Core Ultra 200 Lunar Lake chip, which is Intels current flagship.Recommended VideosWccftech noted that Intels Foundry business is counting on a successful rollout of the Panther Lake to propel its future in the market. The company has already detailed plans to introduce the Panther Lake-H lineup as its premiere offering, then Panther Lake-HX, and others. The coming chip will likely feature the Cougar Cove P-Cores and Skymont E-Cores architectures, as per current reports.Additionally, it is set to include the third-generation Xe3, onboard iGPU, codenamed Celestial. The component follows the second-generation Xe 2 GPU Battlemage. The Xe3 is expected to support at least 16 cores, powering up to 180 TOPS of AI power among its specifications, Wccftech noted. While the Core Ultra 300 is set to be manufactured under the 18A process, PC Games Hardware noted that Intel has split its production between its own Foundry and TSMC, with the latter manufacturer taking charge of the Xe3 graphics portion of the chip.Overall, Intel is still set to announce Panther Lake during the mid-2025 timeframe. This should put hardware partners on schedule to have products ready by January, in time for the coming CES 2026. The industry will surely be excited to see how the SoC will perform alongside similar next-generation chips from competitors.Editors Recommendations

  • Elon Musk must turn over records and answer questions on what he's doing at DOGE, judge orders

The discovery requests do not apply to President Donald Trump, who signed an executive order establishing DOGE on January 20, the day he took office.Last month, 14 Democratic state attorneys general filed a federal lawsuit against Trump, Musk, and DOGE. In their lawsuit, the attorneys general asked the court to "restore constitutional order" and stop Musk "from issuing orders to any person in the Executive Branch outside of DOGE.""Mr. Musk does not occupy an office of the United States and has not had his nomination for an office confirmed by the Senate. His officer-level actions are thus unconstitutional," the lawsuit argued.Chutkan denied that request in a ruling issued on February 18, writing that she could not issue a temporary restraining order against Musk and DOGE "without clear evidence of imminent, irreparable harm" to the states.Nonetheless, Chutkan acknowledged in her ruling that the attorneys general did "legitimately call into question what appears to be the unchecked authority of an unelected individual and an entity that was not created by Congress and over which it has no oversight."Musk and DOGE have been hit with nearly two dozen lawsuits since the start of Trump's second term. DOGE's attempts to slash spending by laying off thousands of federal workers and shuttering foreign aid programs have sparked fear and confusion across the government. This isn't the first time Musk and DOGE have been ordered to turn over records of their work.On Monday, District Judge Christopher Cooper ordered Musk and DOGE to release some of its records to comply with three Freedom of Information Act requests from a watchdog nonprofit. In his ruling, Cooper wrote that DOGE was operating with "unusual secrecy" and the "public would be irreparably harmed by an indefinite delay" in responding to the FOIA requests. When asked about Cooper's ruling, a spokesperson for the Department of Justice told Business Insider on Tuesday that Musk and DOGE "are saving historic amounts of taxpayer money from being spent on unserious bureaucratic pet projects.""This Department has already been fighting in court to vigorously defend President Trump's agenda and will continue to do so, especially when it comes to waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars," the spokesperson added.Representatives for DOGE and the DOJ did not respond to requests for comment from BI.

  • Tesla's latest decline could be one for the history books, JPMorgan analysts say
    www.businessinsider.com
2025-03-13T02:37:48Z Read in app Elon Musk's involvement with the Trump administration has some analysts concerned that the CEO isn't spending enough time running his companies. Apu Gomes/Getty Images This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now.Have an account? About 48% of Tesla's market capitalization was wiped out in a matter of months. The decline comes amid sagging sales and concerns around leadership, namely its CEO Elon Musk.JPMorgan analysts said they couldn't find "anything analogous in the history of the automotive industry."Tesla has lost so much value in such a short period of time that JPMorgan analysts said they couldn't think of another comparable moment in automotive history."We struggle to think of anything analogous in the history of the automotive industry, in which a brand has lost so much value so quickly," they wrote, adding that the closest example was when Japanese and Korean car brands lost sales amid "diplomatic disputes" with China in 2012 and 2017, respectively. The JPMorgan analysts wrote in a note on Wednesday that those historical cases were "confined to a single market, whereas the decline in Tesla sales in 2025 is not specific to any one nation or geography."JPMorgan analysts cut their price target on Tesla by about 41% from $230.58 to $135, lowering guidance on vehicle deliveries for the first quarter of 2025 to about 355,000 an 8% year-over-year decrease from the first quarter of 2024.Between December and Wednesday after trading hours, Tesla lost nearly 49% of its market cap, seeing its peak value of $1.54 trillion from the end of last year fall to about $777 billion. This steep drop comes as Tesla experiences a global decline in sales and branding issues stemming from its chief executive's politics. For a moment, Elon Musk's big bet on Donald Trump seemed to pay off. Tesla was the only EV company to see itsstock surgeafter the president's electoral victory in November. The underlying assumption appeared to be that Musk's company could benefit if the Tesla CEO had the ear of the new administration and guided the White House's efforts to slash government spending. Now, that assumption is being challenged in some analysts' latest guidance, which notes a possible headwind in demand due to Musk's work with the Trump administration."Mr. Musk's work with the Department of Government Efficiency has proven controversial domestically, and while as many members of the political right may be pleased as those on the left are displeased, the effect on Tesla sales seems nevertheless negative," JPMorgan analysts wrote. In recent weeks, Tesla showrooms across the US have seen protests and a string of vandalism incidents. President Trump has rushed to Tesla's defense and said he'd consider labeling the perpetrators domestic terrorists.Outside brand reputation, some analysts are also concerned that Musk's focus on political affairs is again distracting the CEO from his core businesses."After all, the simultaneous decline in both Tesla pricing and unit volume expectations did coincide with his takeover of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter," JPMorgan analysts noted.Morgan Stanley analysts wrote in a note on Monday that Tesla shares have fallen due to "sales data, negative brand sentiment, and market de-grossing" but still see a buying opportunity for the company."Today, with the stock down 50%, our investor conversations are focused on management distraction, brand degradation, and lost auto sales," analysts said.A spokesperson for Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.Despite the company's losses, Tesla remains the most valuable car company in the world.Second to Tesla is legacy automaker Toyota, which has a $292 billion market cap.Morgan Stanley analysts noted several "catalysts" in the company's pipeline, including Tesla's robotaxi, expected to hit Austin roads later this summer, and another demonstration of Optimus, the humanoid robot anticipated before the end of the year. However, expectations forTesla's delivery timelinesmay have to be tempered, given that the CEO has a history of missing his own. deadlines.

Baan Rom Taan House / IF (Integrated Field)Save this picture! W WorkspaceArchitects: IF (Integrated Field)AreaArea of this architecture projectArea:383 mYearCompletion year of this architecture project Year: 2023 PhotographsPhotographs:W WorkspaceMore SpecsLess SpecsSave this picture!Recoloring the Memory In 2018, when the renovation project of the hip-roofed house at Baan Rom Taan began, we encountered a house painted in white, having undergone several renovations. The owner of Baan Rom Taan recounted that this hip-roofed house is nearly 120 years old, having once served as the grandparents' honeymoon suite and continuously used over the years. Hence, it is a place filled with memories of several generations of the family. When tasked with renovating this house, the IF team was determined to preserve the original design as much as possible.Save this picture!Save this picture! The owner collected old photos of the hip-roofed house from the past, along with narrations of memories. The green tiled roof was decorated with wooden eaves and wooden gable walls, but the given photos were black and white. So, we worked on finding the era-appropriate shade of green by studying the Royal Institute's color palette to achieve the right shade, as it represents the original Thai architecture era, similar to the original Baan Rom Taan. Eventually, we found the era-appropriate green for the hip roofed house and used green, white, and dark brown wood as the main color scheme for all of Baan Rom Taan.Save this picture! If a public project requires studying and respecting the area's story and eras, then the same should apply to this house. A personal space like this vacation home also has stories and meaningful memories of the family. We worked closely with the homeowner to decide what memories to keep and cherish, to give this vacation home its identity and continue to serve as a shared space for generations in the family.Save this picture!Bridging Memories and Generations One of the main components of "Baan Rom Taan" after renovation is the bridge connecting two houses located on the Cha-am beachfront. In reality, this bridge was newly constructed, with the original bridge serving as the prototype.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The homeowner explained that Baan Rom Taan has been a vacation home for the family since the grandparents' generation. The bridge between the two buildings (Hip Roof House and Gable Roof House) serves as a connection of memories because as a child, the owner preferred walking through the bridge since there were many dogs below. When there was an opportunity to renovate the house this time, it was requested to keep the bridge between the buildings intact. The new plan was adjusted because the original bridge obstructed the front of Hip Roof House, and it was designed to allow convenient wheelchair access so that elderly family members could live comfortably.Save this picture!Under the elevated platform of the Gable Roof House that can be seen today, there used to be walls surrounding it in the style of a traditional house, serving as storage and the mother's bedroom, but it is no longer in use. In this renovation, we demolished all four walls to create an open, spacious area with a view extending to the back. This area under the platform has become a space that everyone in the family can use together. Some days, it serves as a resting place for adults, some days as a socializing space for grandchildren, and some days it is used as a rehearsal space for the underprivileged children's music group, which the homeowner enthusiastically supports.Save this picture!Save this picture!Baan Rom Taan still maintains the identity of a vacation home. It is a space that connects everyone together by inhaling the relaxation from the sea breeze, fostering family relationships, and allowing everyone who stays there to engage in activities together. Today, Baan Rom Taan can still connect the present with the past, serving as a repository of memories and a place where the family spends time together, even if not all at the same time.Save this picture!Reframe the Connector The wooden walkway connecting the buildings is what we intended to be the main component of the Baan Rom Taan house renovation project. It holds a significant role in both the homeowner's memories and in bridging the two buildings.Save this picture!Save this picture! The original walkway was made of aged white wood. We demolished and rebuilt it entirely, enhancing its design to better integrate it with the space between the two buildings. The new walkway design forms a flipped L-shape to connect the entrance of the hip-roofed house with the rear side. The walkway was previously attached to the front entrance of the hip-roofed house, obstructing the building. With the redesigned walkway, a rear balcony area was created, serving as a cozy sitting spot. We also added an outdoor restroom for continued access from the walkway.Save this picture!Save this picture! As for the entrance on the house's side, we moved it closer to the building for aesthetic appeal. We established an external-to-internal connection from the walkway through to the backyard garden view. By rearranging the layout of the living/dining area and kitchen and aligning the bedrooms together, we merged the sitting and dining areas with the front, while clustering the bedrooms at the back and adding a private balcony at the end. This continuous viewpoint provides an open, intentional connection throughout.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessAbout this officeMaterialWoodMaterials and TagsPublished on March 13, 2025Cite: "Baan Rom Taan House / IF (Integrated Field)" 13 Mar 2025. • The Doomsday Clocks Advance Toward Destruction Mirrors a Decline in Our Well-Being
    www.discovermagazine.com
If youve been feeling a little down as the Doomsday Clock ticks ever closer to midnight, youre not alone.A new study in The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists (BAS) links the clocks progress to negative shifts in mortality and mental health. The study, the first of its kind to connect the timepiece metaphor for global catastrophe to mental and physical health, indicates higher rates of death related to Alzheimers disease, suicide, unintentional injuries, and alcohol and drug abuse as the clock inches closer to midnight.Edging Closer to MidnightThe BAS first set the clock in 1947, with an eye to potential annihilation by global nuclear warfare. As the times have changed, other threats to humanity have been added to the mix the organization uses to tell us how close we may be to an existential Times Up. Those new risks include climate change, disruptive technology and cyber risks, and political volatility. In January 2025, the BAS declared that we are now 89 seconds from midnight.Read More: How to Improve Your Mental Health"The world has not made sufficient progress on existential risks threatening all of humanity," said Daniel Holz, the BAS chair, when announcing the new time. "Every second of delay in reversing course increases the probability of global disaster."Its hard not to be a Negative Nelly when the Doomsday Clock draws ever nearer to indicating an apocalypse. The new study shows that existential stress may play a role in mental and physical health. Scientists will often argue that correlation does not equal cause and effect. However, the studys authors are trying to measure how what they call social determinants of health impact peoples general sense of well-being. Implications for HealthThis study represents a first step, with the inherent limitations thereof, but it suggests a bridge between the fate of the world, our psychology, and our health, Samuel Justin Sinclair, a researcher at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and co-author of the paper, said in a press release. This may sound intuitive, but its something that no one has looked at before. We hope it opens the door to further discussion. The authors argue for more research examining how social and political interactions impact health basically to see whether the "vibe" truly presents threats to our overall sense of well-being.Their study isnt all bad news, though. The research also showed lower mortality risks from some forms of cancer and HIV and lower mortality rates for malignant neoplasms, HIV, and diabetes mellitus.Article SourcesOur writers at Discovermagazine.com use peer-reviewed studies and high-quality sources for our articles, and our editors review for scientific accuracy and editorial standards. Buckshot Roulette entertained a huge chunk of gamers for a while, and the most impressive achievement there is probably the fact the game was made by a solo developer, Mike Klubnika. You can see how the project evolved in a time-lapse the creator published shown through 2,330 Blender viewport preview thumbnails. It starts with props and eventually grows into a whole level powered by Godot.Mike KlubnikaBuckshot Roulette peaked at 20,226 concurrent players on Steam, which might not seem like much, but its actually a pretty big success for an indie game made by one person, and Im sure youve at least heard of it from all those playthroughs on YouTube. The time-lapse is just a part of the development process, with Klubnika modeling 3D objects in Blender and texturing them with Paint.NET and Texture Ripper.
