They note how they usually start with PC and scale down, but they will be doing it the other way around this time to avoid issues with the console versions.

4:15 for console focus and 60fps
38:50 for the Series S comment

This better not be a Cyberpunk situation all over again. If they can't get it to work on S, then they may just need to abandon that console. Work out a deal with MS or wait for their next generation.

This makes sense since they want to have good performance on lower end machines and they mentioned that it was easier to scale up than to scale down. They also mentioned their legacy on PC and how they plan on scaling it up high like they usually do on PC.

Can we stop with these stupid takes? For all we know it sold as much as Series X, helped several games have better optimization on bigger consoles and it will definitely help optimizing newer games to the Nintendo Switch 2.

No one who cares about 60fps should be buying a Series S, just make it 30fps.

They can just go for 30 fps instead on the Series S. No need for a special deal for that, that's allowed.

Maybe off topic, but is 30fps target not so important anymore for 2027 industry-leading graphics? GTA is mainly doing it for design/physics/etc. whch is why the game can't be scaled down to 720-900p/60fps?

It will be a full port a few years after like The Witcher 3., they don't use software lumen here. I doubt the Switch 2 Raytracing capaclity is high enough to use the same pipeline to produce the Switch 2 version.

EDIT: And they probably need to redo all the assets.

Graphics are the part of the game that can be scaled, it is CPU load that is the more difficult part, although devs have actually made cuts in the latter to increase performance mode fps viability. Even with this focus on 60fps performance modes, they are always going to have room to make a higher fidelity 30fps mode. Specifically with UE5 though, performance has been such a disaster all around and Epic seems to be taking it seriously now.

There is kinda a misconception of how Lumen and the hybrid RT is handled in UE5 titles. AO is also part of the ray traced pipeline through the HW Lumen too.
Just shadows are handled separately from the RT system by using VSM which in final look behvae quite like RT shadows in shape, same how FF16 handled the shadows looking like RT ones while it isn't traced.
UE5 can still trace shadows if they want to push things even further.

Yes indirect shadows are handled by hardware lumen. But at the end ot doesn¡t change my comment. i think the game will be 600´720p at 30 fps on Series S.

No this is probably different than most game are doing it here the main focus is the 60 fps mode and after they can create a balancedand 30 fps mode.

This is not the other way around.

Fortnite not using Lumen or Nanite at launch doesn't mean they can't run well on Switch 2. It's a launch port and they prioritized clean IQ and 60fps. I wouldn't be surprised to see them added later. Also it's not like the ray tracing in a Witcher 3 port has to match PS5, there's a lot of scaling back that can be done with ray tracing without ripping out the kitchen sink. Software lumen is also likely to be an option on P.

No the consoles won't hold back your 5090 because the game is created with hardware lumen, RT reflection, virtual shadows maps and Nanite plus Nanite vegetation in minds. Maybe Nanite character too in final version?

If the game was made with software lumen as the base it would have holding back your 5090...

? they said that 60 FPS on Series S is challenging, not the act of releasing the game there at all. The game can simply run at 30 FPS on Series S if they can't pull off 60 FPS. Or have a 40 FPS mode in lieu of 60 FPS.

The CPU and storage speed differences between last gen and current gen were gigantic. This isn't even remotely close to a comparable situation.

Ah yes, clearly 5090 cards are the vast majority of the minimum requirements for PC games.

How can anyone say this with a straight face anymore when there are now PC games running on a Steam Deck.

At least ppl saying that about the Series S are comparing it to other consoles.

That said, it is interesting they are focusing on consoles first, then PC.

• Samsung phones are getting a weird AI shopping platform nobody asked for

Glance AI, a brand owned by mobile advertising company InMobi, has announced a partnership with the Samsung Galaxy Store to roll out its e-commerce platform to Galaxy phones in the US. The company’s app centers around what it calls “a Generative AI shopping platform,” which is a serious contender for the most cursed phrase I’ve read today. The “experience” comprises both a standalone app and a lock screen component to try and sell you clothes. Crucially, the whole thing is “fully opt-in,” which, thank Christ. But even if you opt out — which you absolutely should! — this feels like a sign of things to come as advertisers try to leverage AI to sell us more stuff. Buckle up.You may remember InMobi as the company ruining Motorola’s otherwise decent budget phones with a bunch of e-commerce nonsense. The version of this that Galaxy owners might see centers on a feature that uses gen AI and a photo of you to create images of you wearing different outfits, with new “looks” available every day. Unsurprisingly, you can buy the clothes with a tap. This can all happen on your lock screen, and for some reason you can save these AI generated creations as lock screen wallpapers. I will not be doing this.Glance AI’s lock screen features appear to vary by region; in India, where InMobi was founded, Glance lock screens show ads in addition to things like news updates and sports scores. The implementation on Samsung phones doesn’t seem to include ads, mercifully, at least for now. I don’t know about you but I will absolutely throw my phone into the sea the first time I see an ad on my lock screen, so I hope this never comes to pass.Glance AI is rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S22, S23, S24, and S25-series phones starting today, and should reach “a full 100% scale” in the next 30 days. Presumably it’ll arrive as an optional download in the Galaxy Store when that happens, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes with a push notification encouraging users to go download it.See More:

Presumably it’ll arrive as an optional download in the Galaxy Store when that happens, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes with a push notification encouraging users to go download it.See More: #samsung #phones #are #getting #weird

• Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects (May 2025)

Image: Nintendo LifeThe summer is here, the Switch 2 is almost here, and that means it's eShop Selects time for May.
This is our very last Switch 1 edition of our monthly feature — but don't worry, things aren't changing with the release of a new console. You'll still be getting your monthly dose of eShop hidden gems that we've reviewed, but Switch 2 eShop exclusives will be joining the party too.
So, let's jump in — like previous editions, our team of writers and contributors have got together to vote for their top three games from all game releases we reviewed from May 2025. The games with the highest total scores make our top three. It really is that simple.Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube814kWatch on YouTube

Switch too

The very best Switch 2 games coming soon

Honourable mentions
Let's get something out of the way, first — Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time would be eligible for this, but we're currently in the process of reviewing it. As such, because it's also coming to Switch 2 on launch day, it will be eligible for votes in our June edition. So don't panic!
Another notable release missing is Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo, a late-May release that's been reviewing extremely well. This is another one we're working on as we speak, which is why you won't spy it below.
So what have we got in the running this month? From our 7/10 eShop exclusives... there's quite a lot to choose from! Every single game got at least one vote from our writers, so here's what just missed out on a top-three spot, followed by the podium:

Arcade Archives NebulasRay | Review: 7/10
Dunk Dunk | Review: 7/10
Into the Restless Ruins | Review: 9/10
Labyrinth of the Demon King | Review: 8/10
Old Skies | Review: 7/10

Scoot over, Ness

3rd Place - Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny
Publisher: Capcom / Developer: CapcomRelease Date: 23rd May 2025/ 23rd May 2025We're living in the samurai renaissance, so why shouldn't one of the most well-known video game samurais return to take the spotlight? Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny got a remaster almost 23 years after its original release, and it's still excellent, despite the aspect ratio issues.
This is largely a no-frills release of the PS2 game, with some nice quality-of-life feature like autosave, better weapon switching, and the ability to swap between new and tank controls. It's perhaps not the most popular game in the series, but we love it, scoring it an 8/10.

Blade of glory

2nd Place - Please, Touch The Artwork 2
Publisher: Studio Waterzooi / Developer: Thomas WaterzooiRelease Date: 23rd May 2025/ 23rd May 2025Ahhh, here's a Nintendo Life favourite. Please, Touch The Artwork 2 is a delightfully wacky expansion of Thomas Waterzooi's predecessor, this time focusing on a skeleton andthe artwork of James Ensor, a Belgian artist. Oh, and the skeleton is the artist himself. Yep.
That should give you an idea of what to expect from the game — it's surreal, absurd, gentle, and relaxing all in one, and for less that an absolute steal. You can play it on your lunch break with a cuppa and you'll be done in under an hour. A worthy 9/10, if we say so ourselves.

Touch, I remember touch

1st Place - Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping
Publisher: Happy Broccoli / Developer: Happy BroccoliRelease Date: 22nd May 2025/ 22nd May 2025Short and sweet seems to be a theme this month, and our eShop Selects winner — and the final Switch 1-only winner — goes to a lovely little 3-hour mystery starring a recovering bread addict duck. Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping is the kind of levity we need in the world right now.
This sequel is a total delight, barmy and silly with a little bit of thought put into it. It's not the most challenging mystery, nor will many of the reveals surprise, but it never failed to make us smile. We scored Duck Detective's second case an 8/10, and we hope to see Eugene McQuacklin return.

I suspect fowl play

< Nintendo eShop Selects - April 2025
Do you agree with our ranking? Tell us about your favourite eShop releases of last month by voting in our poll and sharing your thoughts in the comments.

What's the best eShop game from our May 2025 picks? No results yet, check back later...

How we decide our eShop Selects top three: As we reach the end of every month, the Nintendo Life staff vote on their favourite titles from a list of games selected by the editorial team. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released as a digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop title in that particular month, and must have been reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select the qualifying games based on their review scores.
Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they think deserve to sit right at the very top of that list; first choice gets three points, second choice gets two points, and third choice gets one point. These votes are then tallied to create a top-three list, with the overall winner taking that month's top prize.
