Sounds like science fiction? Not anymore. Neuromorphic chips are quickly emerging as a breakthrough technology in the race toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).Unlike traditional chips that drain energy and hit speed limits, neuromorphic hardware brings something entirely different to the table — brain-like computing that’s power-efficient, scalable, and capable of learning on the go. This shift from conventional architectures could be the final piece in the AGI puzzle. So, how do they actually work? Let’s take a look inside the machine’s brain.🧬 What Are Neuromorphic Chips?Neuromorphic chips are purpose-built processors designed to mimic how the human brain works. The name itself — “neuromorphic” — literally means “brain-like form.”Here’s what makes them tick:They imitate neurons and synapses, the fundamental parts of biological brains.Unlike traditional CPUs that handle tasks one step at a time, these chips process information in parallel. They’re built for real-time learning and decision-making right on the chip.Neuromorphic vs Traditional ChipsFeatureNeuromorphic ChipsTraditional Chips (CPU/GPU)Design PhilosophyBrain-inspired Von Neumann architectureProcessing StyleParallel SequentialLearning CapabilityReal-time, on-chipOffloaded to external systemsEnergy ConsumptionUltra-lowHigh Speed for AI TasksFaster in certain tasksSlower in comparisonBottom line: Neuromorphic chips don’t just process data like brains — they learn like them too.💡 The Brain-Inspired ArchitectureNeuromorphic systems take their cues directly from biology. Here’s how the key components line up:✅ Neurons These are the basic processing units. They “fire” signals — called spikes — when triggered by input.✅ Synapses Synapses are the connectors between neurons. They pass on signals and can adjust their strength over time — this is essentially how learning takes place.✅ Spikes These are short bursts of electrical activity used to represent information. Because they’re discrete events, spikes enable asynchronous, event-driven computing — meaning energy is only used when necessary.Instead of processing continuous data streams like traditional hardware, neuromorphic chips work with spike trains. This approach isn’t just efficient — it’s also a lot closer to how our brains really work.⚙️ Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) — The Core ConceptAt the center of neuromorphic computing are Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs). These represent the third generation of neural network design, following:First Gen: Perceptrons (basic linear models)Second Gen: ANNs (standard deep learning models)Third Gen: SNNs (spike-based neuron models)How SNNs Work:Neurons in an SNN only fire when input crosses a certain threshold.Information is encoded in the timing of spikes — not just their magnitude. They can adapt and learn in real-time, often without relying on backpropagation.Real-World Use:Intel Loihi: A neuromorphic chip that natively supports SNNs.IBM TrueNorth: A research chip that simulates a million neurons using SNN principles. Why it matters: SNNs are more biologically accurate, scalable, and far more power-efficient. That makes them perfect for robotics, edge devices, and anything needing real-time decision-making.🔋 Energy Efficiency: The Biggest AdvantageTraditional AI hardware — especially GPUs and TPUs — guzzles power during both training and inference. Neuromorphic chips? They flip the script entirely.Efficiency Highlights:Asynchronous computation: These chips only consume energy when a spike actually occurs. No clocks required: That means no energy wasted on time synchronization.In-memory processing: Data stays and gets processed in the same location, removing the latency of shuttling it back and forth.Power Usage Comparison:Chip TypePower Usage per OperationGPU (AI task)~100 nJCPU~10–50 nJNeuromorphic~1 nJ or lessReal Example:Intel’s Loihi 2 chip has demonstrated up to 1000x better efficiency than traditional CPUs for tasks like gesture recognition and robotic control.Bottom line: Less power, less heat, longer battery life, and instant responsiveness.🔹 Conclusion: Neuromorphic Chips Are the FutureNeuromorphic chips aren’t just another tech buzzword — they’re a fundamental shift in how we think about AI hardware:They’re modeled on the brain’s structure. They enable real-time, on-chip learning. They drastically cut down on energy use. They’re a key stepping stone toward human-level AGI.We’re still early in the game, but the direction is clear. As research keeps pushing forward, expect neuromorphic computing to sit at the heart of tomorrow’s smartest systems.Enjoyed the deep dive? ➡️ Follow AI_With_Lil_Bro for Part 2, where we’ll look into active neuromorphic chip projects, real-world applications, and the road ahead. 💬 Got questions or thoughts? WWW.RESETERA.COMSo what ever happened to the rumoured Twilight princess and Windwaker ports for the switch?Multievolution Member Jun 5, 2018 3,996 It's something that I've wondered for a while. I recall it was insiders who said Nintendo had them ready to drop at any moment in the back, and between the switch 2, and the windwaker GameCube release, it seems unlikely these will ever come. Also wondering where this rumour started, it often feels as though things get spread like gospel, and yet we rarely get the full picture. imawookieman Member Aug 19, 2020 171 Heavily rumoured that they was ready for release. KKStrider Member Oct 10, 2024 1,475 My guess: They were ready extremely early into the Switch's lifespan, and Nintendo sat on them until they "needed" a release like these, which just...never happened. Who knows, maybe Echoes of Wisdom was kind of an unplanned game, and one or both of these ports were destined to come out around that time originally (last September or whatever). Then, I think Nintendo started mounting their Switch 2 plans, and these ports just had no place within those plans. I think your best hope now is that Nintendo transitions them over to Switch 2 and they eventually fill space with them. Otherwise, they've just been binned because they don't fall in line with their NSO strategy RE: Gamecube games. That's my hunch anyway. I think the folks saying "they never existed" should appreciate that virtually every other major Wii U title saw a Switch port - right up until recently with Xenoblade X. There's no way these ports never existed lol. ConflictResolver Member Jan 1, 2024 4,061 Midgar Annoying, I've never played Wind Waker and would prefer a port of the WiiU version. EinBear Member Oct 27, 2017 1,951 The whole thing was a load of bollocks that never existed. Given how many Wii U games got ported to Switch, the Zelda games were a pretty safe bet. Internet people like to pretend to be 'insiders', so they just said it for clout. It's like me saying 'my sources tell me that Nintendo will announce a new 3D Mario game in the next year'. I've just pulled it out of my arse, but it's a fairly safe bet, so it makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about when it (probably!) happens. In the Zelda example, it's a 'safe' bet that didn't actually pan out. CloseTalker Sister in the Craft Member Oct 25, 2017 37,663 It was rumors spurred by some pretty big insiders like Grubb. I'm still confused and annoyed why they haven't been released tbh jph139 One Winged Slayer Member Oct 25, 2017 15,611 Call me a fool but I do believe they have essentially finished ports sitting somewhere and they'll be released next year as late Switch releases. The justification being that the OG Switch can't play Gamecube games anyways so why not give another option? But yeah I don't know. I guess they just had other Zelda games out every year and feared cannibalizing sales? They'd sell well and be low cost to release. It seems so obvious. I would also say the only drastic changes are the sail that lets you sail in any direction and the fetch quest. But I'm a freak who likes changing the direction of the wind every time I need to (it makes me feel like a dope wind wizard) and don't mind the fetch quest (I firmly believe that folks overstate how cumbersome it is, it's not at all if you're just exploring throughout the game - I only had like 3 to get by the time I was done all of the dungeons). WWW.POLYGON.COMSwitch 2’s GameCube controller somehow has less functionality than the Switch oneThis week, Nintendo fans received two important pieces of information about GameCube controller functionality on the Switch 2, both of which suggest the original Switch could have better GameCube controller support. Here’s the first one: The Switch 2 GameCube controller will only work with games in the upcoming console’s GameCube library for the Switch Online service. Video Games Chronicle spotted this piece of information in the fine print of the UK version of an advertisement for the controller, but it’s not in other versions of the ad; we’ve reached out to Nintendo to clarify the situation and have yet to hear back. Secondly, the original Switch’s GameCube controller adapter — which plugs in via USB port — will still be compatible with the Switch 2.Keep in mind, we have yet to hear any information about a Switch 2 update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a game for which many people prefer to use the GameCube controller over Joy-Cons. The game will still work on Switch 2 without an official update, but in terms of GameCube controller functionality, you’d probably have to use the original Switch’s adapter. Furthermore, the GameCube’s Super Smash Bros. Melee — which remains popular and has its own competitive scene to this day, despite the game’s age and lack of support from Nintendo — has yet to be confirmed to be included in the Switch 2 GameCube lineup, but that does seem at least somewhat plausible to this author. That would be one way for Nintendo to make the Switch 2 GameCube controller seem quite useful, actually.Regardless, it seems that Switch 2 Smash fans may be in a bit of a bind this upcoming console cycle when it comes to organizing their GameCube controller accessories. There will be a new Switch 2 controller, but it’s not going to work on Smash Ultimate; you’re going to have to keep your GameCube adapter close at hand for that purpose. As for whether the Switch 2 GameCube controllers will even work with that adapter, that’s also not clear (again, Nintendo has yet to respond to Polygon’s questions about this). One could only hope the adapter would work with the new controllers, though. All that said, Smash fans are an enterprising bunch, and they’ve been keeping the GameCube controller alive for years despite the hurdles along the way. So I’m sure they’ll put up with this. It does seem a bit strange to not just have a Switch 2 GameCube controller that works for games outside of the GameCube library, though, and to require an original Switch accessory in order to allow for that, but at least there still appears to be a way to use GameCube controllers across the new system.See More:0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 70 Просмотры

The CBT will take place on both PC and PlayStation 5 between May 16 and 19. Registration is live on this webpage now through May 15; however, the test will only be available in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Korea. The CBT supports controllers on both platforms. A couple of years ago, we hosted an exclusive interview with Everstone to learn more about the game. Here are a couple of interesting snippets: How big is the playable world in the game? How long does it take to get from one end to another of the map? We expect the first version to have more than 20 square kilometers (5K * 5K), but we are constantly adjusting this according to the content. As the world of this game has a 3D structure, there is an underground space and altitude. The game will continue to be updated and expanded in the future. The first version will feature a large city, Bianjing City, a large wild area, and small towns. From what we've been able to understand, there will be a single player mode and multiplayer mode in Where Winds Meet, and players can switch between them at all times. Can you explain the differences between the two? Simply put, single-player and multiplayer modes will be mutually exclusive modes, and players can freely choose whichever mode they want to play. In multiplayer mode, players will be in environments that are interactive or collaborative in nature. For example, players can fight together. As shown in the live demonstration, when a player suffers from qigong deviation or a debuff, other players can take on the role of a physician to heal their injuries. In addition, the scene of the meteorite falling in the trailer is actually a random event unique to multiplayer mode. Our philosophy is that a large area will be changed when any event occurs. A house could collapse, a fire could break out, or it could be something more serious, and players would be required to work together to accomplish a certain goal.
