Subaru’s electric comeback starts now: Trailseeker EV to debut in NYC
Subaru is finally accelerating into the EV fast lane. The automaker is officially teasing the 2026 Trailseeker, an all-new electric SUV set to debut at the New York International Auto Show next week. While details are still scarce, the Trailseeker marks Subaru’s long-awaited second entry into the EV space, joining the Solterra — and the expectations couldn’t be higher. The teaser image offers only a glimpse of the Trailseeker’s rear badge and taillight, but the name alone suggests rugged ambitions. It’s a clear nod to Subaru’s outdoorsy heritage. But in the EV space, the outdoors belongs to brands like Rivian, whose upcoming R2 compact SUV is already turning heads. The Trailseeker is Subaru’s chance to reassert its identity in an electric age. Recommended Videos Currently, Subaru’s only EV is the Solterra, a joint venture with Toyota that shares a platform with the bZ4X. While the Solterra nails some Subaru essentials — all-wheel drive, spaciousness, and off-road capability — it falls short on key EV metrics. Reviewers have pointed to its modest 225-mile range, slow 100kW charging, and unremarkable acceleration, especially compared to rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5  or Ford Mustang Mach-E. The hope is that Subaru has learned from these criticisms and is poised to deliver a more competitive product. The Trailseeker could either be a variation of a newer Toyota EV (possibly the next-gen C-HR+), or something entirely new under the shared platform strategy. Subaru previously announced that its next three EVs would be co-developed with Toyota, before launching four in-house EVs by 2028. Given how long Subaru has waited to expand its EV offerings, the Trailseeker has to deliver. It’s not just about adding a second electric model — it’s about keeping pace with a market rapidly leaving legacy automakers behind. If the Trailseeker can improve on the Solterra’s shortcomings and channel that classic Subaru ruggedness into a truly modern EV, it might just be the spark the brand needs. Rising costs are turning video games into something only for the rich – Reader’s Feature
Rising costs are turning video games into something only for the rich – Reader’s Feature GameCentral Published April 13, 2025 1:00am Could Mario Kart World end up seeming cheap? (Nintendo) A reader thinks that the video games industry is headed for a massive price increase across the board and the Nintendo Switch 2 is only the half of it. There’s been a lot of complaints and arguments about the price of Nintendo Switch 2 games this week and I totally get it. £75 for a physical copy of any game is an absurd amount of money to pay, even if it is technically good value for money, compared to things like going to the cinema. The problem with that is that is that even if it is good value in theory, it’s still a huge chunk of money that almost anyone would think twice about paying, especially given all the money uncertainty in the news at the moment. What worries me is the idea raised by GC and others that we could be heading to a future where all games cost at least that much. That rather than Nintendo being the most expensive they’ll be leap-frogged by other publishers and still end up being the cheapest. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the thought of a new generation of gaming where £75 is ‘cheap’ or even the norm. Some triple-A games are already £70 but we’ve seen this week that The Last Of Us collector’s edition costs £100 and who knows what GTA 6 is going to end up as. I think it’s pretty obvious what’s going on here. The price of making games has gone up – we’ve known this for years now – and what is the obvious response going to be from publishers? To decrease budgets? To make shorter games? To expand free-to-play concepts to include single-player games? No. No, they’re just going to increase the price and make it our problem. That is such a dumb, unimaginative, response to a complex problem that you could’ve guaranteed immediately it’s what they’d do. I’m not saying it’s not a difficult issue. We all want our games to look as good as possible and to have plenty of content, but a sensible publisher would consider the negative side of that, where games take forever to make and you can only make your money back by charging through the roof. GTA 6 will probably be more than £70 too (Rockstar Games) The problems are obvious, not least the fact that this is going to push people even more to play only free-to-play games, which is what these companies were supposed to be trying to avoid. If it’s a choice between a £75+ game and a completely free one, that everyone is playing, the average casual gamer isn’t even going to think twice. Then there’s the problem that the number of games that can justify that sort of money are very small. First party Sony games and things like Assassin’s Creed Shadows are one thing but who’s going to spend £75 on a game that got a good but not great review or which you’re just not sure you’ll like. It’s going to end up with a two-lane video games industry, where triple-A games, in an increasingly small number of franchises and genres, cost £75+ and indie games are £20 or so at most. Maybe that’s not the worst thing in the world (although I do think the originality and innovation of indie games can be overexaggerated at times) but it’s going to mean so many great games are going to be out of the reach of a lot of people. More Trending Perhaps it’s a shame that subscription services didn’t really take off but beyond that I don’t really see anyone round the problem. Games are just going to get more and more expensive and the number of people that can afford to get them, as more than just the occasional luxury purchase, is going to shrink and shrink. The Last Days of GPT-4: A Multimodal Revolution Is Coming for Your Chatbot
The Last Days of GPT-4: A Multimodal Revolution Is Coming for Your Chatbot4 min read·Just now--By now, you’ve probably heard the news: GPT-4 is retiring. Not with a bang, not with a press conference or farewell tour, but with a quiet, graceful exit stage left as GPT-4o — the newer, shinier, more multimodal kid on the block — takes center stage. And if you didn’t hear about it? Congratulations, you’re living a peaceful life, unaware of the existential shifts in AI beneath your feet.Let’s dig in.GPT-4: The Icon That WasIntroduced in March 2023, GPT-4 was more than just a model. It was a cultural moment in AI — an intelligence that could write sonnets, debug code, ace bar exams, and help you draft that email you’ve been avoiding for three days. GPT-4 brought a level of reasoning and creativity that set a new benchmark for what people expected from their digital sidekick. If Siri was the friendly receptionist of the AI world, GPT-4 was your caffeinated genius friend who also happened to be a novelist, programmer, and part-time philosopher. But like all great icons — think vinyl records, floppy disks, and MySpace — it eventually had to make room for the future.Enter: GPT-4o (The “o” Is for “Omni,” Not “Oops”)Starting April 30, 2025, GPT-4 will officially retire from the ChatGPT interface. In its place? GPT-4o. The “o” stands for “omni,” which in this case isn’t just branding fluff — it’s a signal of a truly multimodal model.GPT-4o natively understands text, images, and audio. That means it’s not just reading what you write — it’s looking at what you show it, hearing what you say, and maybe, someday, sensing the emotional undertones of your sighs when you open a spreadsheet at 9 a.m.It’s faster, chattier, and more intuitive. It’s like GPT-4 went away for a sabbatical and came back with a yoga certification, fluent in three more languages, and somehow taller. Why Sunsetting GPT-4 Makes Sense (Even If We’ll Miss It)OpenAI didn’t make this decision on a whim. The shift to GPT-4o reflects a broader strategy: to streamline the…

Bungie Showcases Marathon Gameplay, Release Date Announced For September 2025
Menu Home News Hardware Gaming Mobile Finance Deals Reviews How To Wccftech Gaming Bungie Showcases Marathon Gameplay, Release Date Announced For September 2025 David Carcasole • Apr 12, 2025 at 02:00pm EDT Bungie's first new game in over a decade finally got its full reveal today. Marathon, a new extraction shooter that is actually a reboot of the very first game Bungie released by the same name, had a big showcase featuring our first honest look at gameplay for the new shooter, and we also got the announcement for the release date. Marathon will arrive on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on September 23, 2025, but if you're especially keen to try it out for yourself, you can sign up for a closed alpha test later this month by joining the game's official Discord server. The livestream showcase for Marathon included a panel of the game's lead developers, including game director Joe Zeigler, art director Joseph Cross, gameplay director Andrew Witts, and senior design lead Lars Bakken. Each talked about their experiences with Marathon, talking the game up between the short gameplay trailers. Trailers that do show off some Marathon gameplay, but none of them are as effective in showing what the game actually looks like in motion than a 20 minute video that shows highlights from Bungie inviting content creators and press to play the game. In that video you're watching a select few creator's direct gameplay feed, and we get a much better sense of what Marathon looks like when you're on stick. We also got a bit more information on some of the core details of Marathon, like the four Runners that players can choose from: Void, Glitch, Blackbird, and Locus. Each runner comes with their own set of abilities that inform the playstyle you can go for with them, but you're not limited to what kinds of weapons and load-outs you can craft, so you're free to play how you like. The livestream showcase ended with a bit more information on Marathon's narrative, which will be told over seasonal updates as Marathon is a multiplayer-only game, with no dedicated single-player mode. That said, we also got confirmation that you can solo-queue in Marathon if you don't have two other people to play with to make a full squad of three or don't want to play with randoms. Overall, Marathon doesn't look like it's doing much to distinguish itself from the already overcrowded genre of modern-day first-person shooters. Bungie's signature brand of first-person shooting and the game's art style certainly have a chance at making yet another extraction shooter feel fresh, but we'll have to wait until we actually get to play it to see if it has a chance at surviving. And that's without even mentioning the other elephant in the room, which is the fact that we still don't know what the final price of the game will be.
